Hey all, why not trying toggletoday from vishay555 on this forum. It remove your top, bottom or both task bars!
(but you have to resize your wallpaper)

gguyaz: ToggleToday wm5 is also coming, which will also greatly enhance the WM2003 version (VGA + automatic landscape support etc). But ToggleToday works well at QVGA on WM2003!

I am NEW user of MDA compact, and i reallly do fancy this today screen, and i wanted to upgrade it but i dont understand that........And i hope someone would guide me how can i upgrade my today screen through website or any program etc......but remember i am a new user !!!!

Simple skin (nokia like)?

When I upgraded to the new HTC Artemis I let my wife inherit my Magician, but she is not that in to PPC, so the question is:
Is there a skin suit (WisBar Adv Desktop or something) available that could make the phone more like a "normal" cell phone? She does not realy need all the fancy suff, but she uses tomtom, media player, SMS, MMS, Phone, Contacts, Calendar, IE, phonealarm profiles and phonealarm MMS, SMS, missed call notifications.
Preferably all functions should be available from today screen as large icons.

Seach for the Orange today plugin. Make it looks very much like a normal phone (that's why I don't use it )

You might just want to look around for any old thread/forum/post that has this Orange plugin. As Orange does have a Magician release that has that today plug-in (eg they DO have a plugin for 2003). Good luck.

I'm not sure if this helps, but if you were to use cLaunch to set up the Today screen .. 'nicely', you may able to make it looks simplier. Take a look at the iPhone cLaunch skin here. Note: cLaunch maybe a bit troublesome to setup.

Newsland

I always used AvantGo on my old PPC, so wanted something similar for my Exec. I found Newsland on MS's website (yeah, I know, I deserve everything I get) and it had some good reviews.
Unfortunately, it doesn't work, and the website I'm supposed to register with is no longer in existance. The only site I can find is in Russian.
I thought "Stuff it" and tried to remove the software. I used settings>remove on the Exec. It has gone from the program list, but the software is still there. I tried removing it through Activesync, same result; gone from the program list, still on the Exec. I've tried a soft reset, it's still there, taking up room. Any ideas?

Newsland Remove
Hi,
I think the following is happened:
The Today screen plugin of Newsland was still active wen you tryed to remove Newsland. What you need to do is, try to install the software again, and when this is done deactivate the today plugin. Than remove the program again. After that you can look with the File Explorer and look at Program Files if the map Newsland still excist's. If so, you can delete it!

Thanks. I checked the site. I do have a question. Does it support landscape view on our Universal? All the screen shots I saw were portrait view.

To the person asking if AvantGo works - it does work, just fine, in landscape or portrait. Just go to the AvantGo website and download the latest version. Annoyingly, it insists on syncing through it's own software rather than going through Activesync, and it seems slower to upload than it was on my 3 year old RX3715.
Still, it does the job just fine. I wanted to try something a bit different, so I may have a look at the other suggestions.

Iphone-like taskbar

Hi folks,
Is there a way to have exactly this bar permanently on today screen? The pic was taken from an Ifonz screenshot.
I have a Gsmart VGA WM6.0 pro.
I tried Wisbar and other stuff but no way..too heavy and not user friendly at all. The best would be a kinda tsk file or whatever... any help?

The only way to have it permanently there is to use PointUI which has the top bar. Its not quite like the iphone bar, but it has what you need and acts as a task switcher as well as a way to get back to the pointui home screen.
I have asked the developer of the today life program (xml config tool with themes) he is making if he was planning on making a permanent top bar. But he didn't seem to care... such a shame too since it is useful.

Wisbar is the easiest way.
You won't get that without additional software.

Are you sure that PointUi is VGA compatible? I tried it before but it didn't work.

Which version? I believe the latest one is (it may be a seperate cab).

Well, they did a test version in the old 1.02 version. I don't think they ever did anything for their new 1.5 version in vga.

There are some other vga programs listed in that thread that may interest you.

- problem is that this tasbar is much smaler than the original wm6-one.
- also the icons, text, everything is completly different. windows can´t handle this.
- so the only way to get exactly this taskbar is a net application that runnes over windows mobile.
- why should the programmer of todaylife make a new taskbar when he created a complete Gui thats above windows mobile ? funny !
- if you look at my thread (bluephone) you find a todaylife skin with a original iphone taskbar.

I will try PointUi 1.02 alpha and post feedback.

Why? He created a complete gui thats above WM, great! But it loses its functionality the moment you open a program and it goes back to the WM interface, top taskbar. I thought it was supposed to be "above" WM? How do you get back to the today life screen?
You even created a skin for today life and I tried it. Sadly, it doesn't feel like a gui replacement for WM when the taskbar changes to the ugly, non functional WM bar.
I don't know anything about programming. But there must be a way to keep that bar at the top. *sigh*

all apps are programmed for the big wm taskbar, even if someone could manage to let a new small iphone tasbar stay on top and hide the original bar, you would have a ugly free space between taskbar and any application. So you want nothing more than programm every available software for windows mobile new
so i can tell you just this two words: Not possible ! believe it or not.

Wisbar. It's pretty easy to make a skin like that, and it's not as heavy as you mention. Give it a second try!

seems quite fine and fluid on my Gsmart WM6. I only hope it will be developped for VGA devices.
Wisbar:
I'm still not satisfied with Wisbar 3. It eats my ram and freezes the ppc. Not worth keeping it installed.
I'll keep the original WM interface as it is. Only some spb plugins will be kept in wait of some new advice or suggestion from the forum.

It 'eats' about 300K on my device. I don't find that very much. Many plugins are more hungry.

as Syd159 said. It does not eat too much and I never had freez caused by Wisbar. It is normal app in combination with Ultimate launch (or SBP Pocket plus) you got total "new phone"

yes wisbar do consume lot of RAM and slow down my phone so I did't use it anymore

Imho I think that a today plugin like Gsmart glass can be worth trying. I like the gui and it belongs to Gigabyte (like my device ).
Have you guys tried it? If so is it that good?

can someone please help me! im trying to find a tiny today plugin that shows u ur GSM carrier name/logo ...mine is ROGERS ...just so i know that i have my GSM activated on my today screen!
builtin 'wireless' today item takes up too much space ,plus it displays wifi and bluetooth icons which i don't have a need for

I'd suggest something like BatteryStatus (although it has a new name which I have forgotten!) with a skin with just GSM Status.
Also, whilst it's good not having another thread, you're more likely to get an answer in the Questions and Answers sticky.

Yes you can.
Yes you can. Assuming by normal Windows mobile themes you mean standard themes on QVGA resolution. You can also just use plain background images as well, just look for files with the .tsk extension. These can automatically be applied through your today screen.

alright, I was just curious, I was told you cant use the normal tsk files anymore, and that the Elf did not support a Home Screen anymore since the home screen has the custom HTC style....pretty much I am still able to use any tsk file, as long as it is QVGA correct?

lol....yes the home screen can still be changed. The tsk file changes the background and the color theme of your phone. You can choose to toggle the default HTC home screen on or off through your today screen settings under start-->settings-->personal-->today-->Items. Either ways it doesn't have any impact whatsoever on the functionality of the tsk file. You can customize it to your hearts content Infact, you can even customize the default HTC home sceen using this app

Not sure about tom tom. I don't use it.....not aware. Check somewhere on the forums....I'm sure I remember seeing the name tom tom come up pretty often though. For reasons good or bad....I dont know
