When I first got my Tmobile vario out of the box, the WiFi was working. I dpnt know what I have done, but I cannot browse the internet using WiFI anymore.
I can detect the wireless network, but the vario tries to connect using GPRS. I have gone into the connectionssetting and tried all the different settings to no avail.
ANyone know what to do ?

I have a belkin router. It works well with several laptops.
I can connect to it with my JASJAR and get an IP address.
If I sync pop3 email it uses WIFI and works as expected.
If I sync journal bar it uses WIFI and works as expected.
However if I try to use internet explorer it alway tries to start a GPRS session and refuses to work through WIFI. Why??
Ive sent hours trying every setting I can find.
Anyone have any suggestions? :?:

At least your Wifi network doesn't crash as soon as u connect the JJ. Mine doesn't even get that far...
Anyone who can help???
Hmmm I wonder if this is something in the Telstra settings Cab.
Re those having problems all on Telstra?
Might try a hard re set and then manually build the settings.
Jon
Try de activating the phone. this allows you to use IE via your wireless router.
Tried that, thanks.
I just get the "Cannot Connect" message and if I dismiss it. Nothing!
However I can sync the weather without getting the "Cannot Connect" box. SO the WiFi is working, its just that Explorer can see it.
Im running the O2 UK firmware and it works fine (auto gives prefernce to the WiFi if I am in range, try loading on the genuine Imate firmware.

I know how you feel. I can't get wifi to work. Heck, I can't even use IE when synced to the computer via USB
Have you tried messing with the settings in start/settings/connections/connections?
I finally got it working.
You have to chose the "Telstra Internet" setting in Network Managment.
Its in Settings, Connections, Advanced, Select Networks, select "Telstra Internet".
I then did, Settings, Connections, Manage existing connections, Modem, and set it to "Auto"
It uses the WiFi first and then only uses GPRS if there is no WiFi.
Hope this helps someone else !

Can anyone help me with just getting my JJ connected to the wifi network without crashing the router?
Have you tried turning off any encryption etc and re booting the router.
Then try to connect at the most basic level?
Now I'm totally confused
I don't know what is going on!
I have finally managed to use IE via Activesync, using "Telstra Internet" as my My network connects to...
I tried again to hook up to the wifi network. The router is connected to my desktop via a physical cable, and my tablet pC is connected wirelessly (my JJ syncs with the tablet). I turned to tablet off, and then connected the JJ to the desktop wirelessly. On the desktop, I am no longer able to connect to the internet, but for some reason, the JJ is able to connect to the internet
But, even if I disconnect the JJ from the network, my desktop is unable to connect back to the internet until I reboot the router. What does this all mean????
I have the same issue with my MDA Pro! i done even have the sutp option in the modem settings. I can connect to my belkin router with encryption but no response when in IE!
Anyone else got any other suggestions?
I'm beginning to think that nobody has a solution to such connection problems. Is there any hope on the horizon? Any chance of something being sorted out by MS?
BTW, how well does BT syncing/internet connection work?
Ok frustration rising.
I can connect to my Belkin wireless router with no problems but I can only log onto the router and not browse the internet!
I have checked that the proxy is not configured.
Anyone got any ideas?
Nope
Has anyone managed to get the Hermes (MDA Vario II) to connect to a TomTom GO device and then connect to the internet to use Traffic etc? I appear to be able to pair with the GO but then the connection set up fails. When it tries to connect it actually disconnects the current 3G connection. I've tried just using GPRS but that doesn't work either. I'm out of ideas now.
Hi.
bit of an odd one. I've got a Schap 3.03c modified Tytn, currently on Tmobile
I've noticed that if I use Wifi on the tytn, then turn the wifi off and then try and use GPRS to connect to the net, I just get "locating" in PIE and basically no net connection via activesync/opera etc.
The only way I can get GPRS back, is to go into connections and untick the use proxy settings under tmobile (although it doesn't store the changed tick!), then select ok. Then I can connect to the net fine using GPRS
Anybody else seen this ? It seems to be resetting something somewhere, when using this tickbox as I tried it without using tmobile proxy settings, but still the same issue.
I just got a "new" T-Mobile MDA Vario (UK), and after starting it, everything seems to work fine.
But when trying to connect to wireless networks, it finds them okay, but never connects to them. It just alternates between "Connecting" and "Available" in the network list.
My laptop and the other PC in the house connects to our and other WiFi networks fine, so it must be a problem with the Vario.
I've tried a factory reset with the same results.
Any suggestions what might be wrong or what might fix it?
The OS is apparently 1.3.2.2 if that helps.
Thanks in advance!
had this a couple of times. my work router here worked fine after i rebooted the router.
but some networks i havent been able to get on to.
What encryption is your wireless access point/router running? and what brand is it?
Thanks for the reply.
It's a Linksys router, using a WEP security pass, but it won't connect to other branded routers either (local unprotected neighbourhoods ones (A Belkin, for example) that the laptop and PC can connect to just fine).
With the old XDA Mini S I used to use, it connected to the network fine then asked for the WEP Key, but this one just never connects. I've tried going into the network info and putting in the WEP Key, and it stores it and gives no 'Wrong Password" error, but still never connects.
I've upgraded the ROM to the latest official T-Mobile one (2.21.2.6 WWE) to see if that would help, but I still have the same issue.
Is switching to the I-Mate K-Jam or O2 XDA Mini S ROM simply a matter of installing it the same way I would a T-Mobile ROM update, or will that brick the phone?
My old XDA Mini S never had this issue, and I've read of a few people using the MDA Vario having the same problem, so I'm assuming it's a problem with the T-Mobile ROMs/software?
Bump.
Anyone got any ideas/suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
I am having the same problem. I downloaded the lastest upgrade from the T-mobile site and was still not able to connect to the internet with wifi.
And suggestions would be greatly appreciated
I tryed with T-mobile 2.26 ROM. I like to connect to my desktop pc, with ad-hoc mode. As I remember, I could connect, but the PDA didn't accept the IP address and other network settings, that provided the dhcp server. (WinXP internet connection sharing) I checked this with vxUTIL. Connection didn't work even if I setup the IP address, gateway, and DNS server manually.
I upgraded to WM6 and now the thing work well.
I've the same issue, but also noted that the device already connects to dlink routers, linksys ones's didn't work, previously with the original ROM from CINGULAR 8125 the linksys worked fine now they don't.... i recently upgraded my phone to wizard love for G4's so it's not only a tmobile issue.
Hi All,
I have recently acquired one of the HTC Touch Diamond units and can't seem to figure out how to get it to connect to the internet using the WI-FI.
The device says it finds and connects to my LAN at home, however when I go to use the browser I can't connect. I've tried in 3 different networks and still no result, it connects but still cant surf.
Can anyone tell me what to do please?
Oh buy the way, it connect fine with a data connection, i have problems only with wifi
