I have a belkin router. It works well with several laptops.
I can connect to it with my JASJAR and get an IP address.
If I sync pop3 email it uses WIFI and works as expected.
If I sync journal bar it uses WIFI and works as expected.
However if I try to use internet explorer it alway tries to start a GPRS session and refuses to work through WIFI. Why??
Ive sent hours trying every setting I can find.
Anyone have any suggestions? :?:
Jon
At least your Wifi network doesn't crash as soon as u connect the JJ. Mine doesn't even get that far...
Anyone who can help???
Hmmm I wonder if this is something in the Telstra settings Cab.
Re those having problems all on Telstra?
Might try a hard re set and then manually build the settings.
Jon
Try de activating the phone. this allows you to use IE via your wireless router.
Tried that, thanks.
I just get the "Cannot Connect" message and if I dismiss it. Nothing!
However I can sync the weather without getting the "Cannot Connect" box. SO the WiFi is working, its just that Explorer can see it.
Im running the O2 UK firmware and it works fine (auto gives prefernce to the WiFi if I am in range, try loading on the genuine Imate firmware.
Jon
I know how you feel. I can't get wifi to work. Heck, I can't even use IE when synced to the computer via USB
Have you tried messing with the settings in start/settings/connections/connections?
I finally got it working.
You have to chose the "Telstra Internet" setting in Network Managment.
Its in Settings, Connections, Advanced, Select Networks, select "Telstra Internet".
I then did, Settings, Connections, Manage existing connections, Modem, and set it to "Auto"
It uses the WiFi first and then only uses GPRS if there is no WiFi.
Hope this helps someone else !
Jon
Can anyone help me with just getting my JJ connected to the wifi network without crashing the router?
Have you tried turning off any encryption etc and re booting the router.
Then try to connect at the most basic level?
Now I'm totally confused
I don't know what is going on!
I have finally managed to use IE via Activesync, using "Telstra Internet" as my My network connects to...
I tried again to hook up to the wifi network. The router is connected to my desktop via a physical cable, and my tablet pC is connected wirelessly (my JJ syncs with the tablet). I turned to tablet off, and then connected the JJ to the desktop wirelessly. On the desktop, I am no longer able to connect to the internet, but for some reason, the JJ is able to connect to the internet
But, even if I disconnect the JJ from the network, my desktop is unable to connect back to the internet until I reboot the router. What does this all mean????
I have the same issue with my MDA Pro! i done even have the sutp option in the modem settings. I can connect to my belkin router with encryption but no response when in IE!
Anyone else got any other suggestions?
I'm beginning to think that nobody has a solution to such connection problems. Is there any hope on the horizon? Any chance of something being sorted out by MS?
BTW, how well does BT syncing/internet connection work?
Ok frustration rising.
I can connect to my Belkin wireless router with no problems but I can only log onto the router and not browse the internet!
I have checked that the proxy is not configured.
Anyone got any ideas?
Nope

My XDA2s it set up in the normal way, i have changed one of the WiFi setting so i can do Activesync at home with my laptop over WiFi.
My problem is when i am out i turn on the WiFi then turn on WiFiFoFum and when it finds a unsecure network i hold the stylus on the line displaying the details of the found network and click connect. But it never connects.
if i close WiFiFoFum then wait for the normall PPC program to tel me about a connection. I can connect fine. i have tried this with the standard PPC program set to "connect to unsecure networks automatically" and do not connect automatically. but i have tried to connect using WiFoFoFum but never can.
I know how stupid all this sound but can someone pleae let me know what setting they use and typically how they would connect to a network they found using WiiFoFum
Thanks
John
It doesn't sound stupid. I have the exact same problem. At work theres two networks, on open without wep and another with wep where i dont have the key. The phone keep connecting to the the wrong network all the time. Wififofum is unable to connect to another network for me.
My workaround is to turn off wlan and retry. If that doesnt work I have to restart the phone.
For some reason I can connect to the internet very easily through GPRS (even when roaming), but at home with my own wirelss LAN, I can connect with no problem, but each time I try to access anything on the internet, I get a pop-up stating "Could not locate remote server". I don't have a router, I am using a desktop as the gateway, I am currently accessing the net with my laptop through the same means. All configurations for the LAN appear to be correct, but I must be missing something on the JAMin. In the WiFi settings, I see the LAN, almost full signal - Ad hoc Mode - status is connected - I'm assigned an IP ... seems like everything is in order.
Will one of you wizards point out what I've missed? I know it's probably simple, usually is.
If I'm having trouble connecting a device to a network that has previously been working ok, the first that I do is turn off all network security i.e WEP, MAC address filtering etc. Then reboot the wireless access point/router and your device. If you still can't connect, you can start to blame your device.
Don't think it's a network prob...
Thanks Matterhorn, but my laptop is still connected fine, no problems there... I get the feeling that the PPC's only recognising the GPRS as a valid network for internet access... it works okay when I login to a commercial WiFi network (when I'm in the States) but for some reason on my own network here at home, it logs in, just can't find a server for some reason. The first thing I thought of was the firewall, turned it off and still no luck.
Any other ideas? I thought maybe there was a setting for default AP or connection, but can't find it, nor can I find an appropriate reference in the manual. Ugh!
Resolved!
It would seem my JAMin was trying to access the internet not through the gateway, but through my laptop. As I don't have the laptop setup to share an internet connection, it would allow my JAMin to connect, but that was all. I went in the room where my desktop is, registered on the network there and bingo!
Too simple, should have tried that right away but it didn't occur to me at the time. Thanks for the help anyway Matterhorn!
I have been reading this forum and many others all day about the wifi problems people are having but none are like mine so I would like to ask this question, I turn on wifi and it will not find my network or any network around. I have tried to manually put in the ssid and ip address and still it will not connect that way either. I have checked and double checked all my router setting (currently set to open with no wep or anything) I am begining to wonder if the wifi is broken? My second problem I have found it when I change the connection setting to my isp I cannot connect to the internet. Maybe a bad setting, I am not really sure. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
is your router set to broadcast the ssid? if not then that is the problem. if this option is not enabled then no one can see your router.
as far as connecting via a cell connection, make sure you are using an operator cab. I am sure if you do a simple search you will be able to find a cab that will load all of the proper setting for a cellular internet connection.
who is your provider?
Yes, my router does bradcast the ssid and I have four computers and printers that find it without anyproblems. When i turn on wi-fi the phone doesn't even search for a network the icon shows up but I don't get the arrow that go back on forth to show that it is searching or connecting.
I am also having a problem with my 8525. I do get connected but i cant browse the net. Can someone tell me how to setup a connection from scratch to connect to wifi. Thanks

Search around on the Hermes forum. IE doesn't know to use the WiFi connection when it's available. There's a registry key setting that needs to be changed in order for IE to make use of the WiFi connection rather than going out over your data connection with your carrier.
Hi,
I tried to connect my tytn to my wifi network for the first time yesterday, and couldn't get any web pages to load.
I was connected to the router, and had an IP address assigned by DHCP, but whenever I tried to load any pages in IE, it sat at 'locating' for ages and then errored.
I thought nothing of it and thought I'd give it another try later. But since then, I get the same problem when I try to browse via activesync. The device syncs properly and is connected, but I can't load any web pages.
My first thought was a DNS problem so I've tried setting some static servers but I'm not getting anywhere. I tried 'Microsoft Network Analyzer' which gives me ticks in all the tests (even the one where it pings www.microsoft.com, when I can't browse to there).
I'm now thinking that when I'm connected via activesync it's still trying to use the wifi connection somehow (even though it's turned off). In the network adaptors, wifi is set to DHCP but has an ipv6 address in the box under static IP (odd, as my router doesnt use ipv6).
I'm pretty lost now. I could do a hard reset but I've got a feeling I'd end up in the same place when I next try to get wifi to connect at home.
Any ideas?

Check your connection settings. Some carriers have proxies enabled for your GPRS connection. If you have proxy active, you will not be able to connect through a router. AT&T does this, for example.
Yep, that was it!
My GPRS was set up under 'My Work Connection', and had a proxy server. I disabled the proxy and activesync started working.
So I completely cleared out the 'My Work Network' connection, and added a new one for my providers GPRS which made activesync work. I then set the preferred networks to Work first, then GPRS second, and everything works.
Thanks
Hi there,
I have a question about an annoying problem that I've only managed to find one (unanswered) question to on the web.
I am currently using WM6.1 and I use to read email from my Hotmail account, amongst other things. The problem is that the messaging client ALWAYS tries to download my mail via 3G/GPRS even when there's a WiFi connection available. This occurs both when I initiate the send/receive using TouchFlo 3D or from within the mail client.
Connection manager is, as far as I'm aware, configured correctly, and PIE/Opera/weather will all happily use WiFi to connect to the internet, only using my data connection when WiFi isn't available.
The same results occur with connection manager configured in either of the following ways:
Internet Connection = "My ISP" settings with 3G modem connection
Work Connection = Default "My Work Network" settings
WiFi Access Point = Connects to Internet
Network Card = Connects to Internet
OR
Internet Connection = "My Work Network" with 3G modem connection and "This network connects to the internet" enabled
Work Connection = As Internet Connection
WiFi Access Point = Connects to Work
Network Card = Connects to Work
Interestingly, if I disable my data connection and enable WiFi I CAN send/receive mail over the WiFi connection, so it seems like the data connection is being used in preference to the WiFi one.
Is this a known issue or am I doing something wrong?!
Thanks,
Mike
Known issue and it is a pain as I don't have any mobile coverage in the house but I do have a wifi network but can't sync hotmail through Wifi
Same frustrating issue here. Hate it.
Even tried the modaco nodata hack so that windows live didn't even know that I had data, and with wifi going great it just says there is no connection. Pretty retarded.
yes mines too there should be away to change this Setting.
This is a real pain for sure. But I have experienced that if I turn off the phone copletely and then connect to the internet via WiFi hotmail does sync via the WiFi-connection. Just thought that I would mention this as a possible last resort.
It may also give some ideas to people trying to fix this... shortcoming.

Hmm strange I will have to try this out.
Thanks!
any Updates?
I have this same problem as well
The only way seems to be to turn your phone off and then use Wifi.
oh i will try it so basically turn the Phone on Airplane Mode
