I have noticed a lot of thread stating problems with the speaker on the JAMin, usually having something to do with the headphone jack.
Has anybody with a Qtek S200 had this problem. So far it seems to be contained to the JAMin only. However since they are essentially the same device it makes me wonder if the S200 or Dopod 818 will have the same fate.
defective speaker imate JAMin
my imate jamin has the same problem...
the external speaker stopped working the very first I used the head phones...now the phone does not ring ....the rcorded notes cannot be heard....I have no audio whatsoever...i'll take any help to solve this peoblem
My S200 has a lot of static/hizz/other noices. And even during standby it has a high-pitched tone that also is present during calls. It does end sometimes during longer calls though.
I'm NOT impressed by the sound quality. Even my party/hiking/backup-phone (nokia 6210) has better sound quality than my brand spanking new S200 that costs approx 15-20 times more than my crappy old 6210.

Hi all,
Need some desparate help. I dropped my Imate Jam, and now the earpiece fails to work. The unit works fine. Rings can be heard and all. Just that the earpiece has no sound coming from it. If i put someone on speakerphone, then i hear it faintly on the speaker. Otherwise No EARPIECE. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM and HOW DO I SOLVE....
I am in india....so anyone please help....
Oh and also, if i plug the handsfree. I can hear the caller but very low on Full volume.
Try this thread. There's instuctions on dismantling the Jam and mention that the Nokia 6610 earpiece fits if you can get one as a spare.

Thanks Dude....will try
sometimes my i-mate jam loses system sounds from main speaker especially when headphones are attached and then detached. it means that it doesn't ring when somebldy calls me, or it doesn't play music from main speaker, though I still can speak and hear from phone speaker. when the headphones are returned to the place everything seems to be ok, soft reset doesn't help. this is the second jam with the same problem among my friends, please help!
i think this has been discussed b4..it has to do with the fragile audio port on your mini..apparently the contacts not too good so when you remove the headset, the JAM still thinks you have it on.
i tried fiddling with the audio jack and the headset a lot.. i don't have any sound on my speakers since over a week now...i can talk properly - and have set it for vibrate..hard reset also didn't work...

thanks, I heared something about that but could not find the topic. so what can be done to get rid of the problem without going to service? is there something I can do myself?
or is there a possibility that devices mady under other brands will function better? i have a chance to exchange my i-mate for brand new mda compact with little cash on it. i realise that this is the same device, but may be some difference in quality?
ihave just read a thread about this problem. they say insert your headphone jack then remove it quickly. ive never experienced this problem yet with my imate new jam. hope not
Try flicking the ear-piece area with your finger. Had to do this to my wife's mini when she dropped it both times. It seems the speaker looses contact when bumped. HTH.
I have an IMATE JamIn .
No sound comes out of its speaker!!!!!!!!!
When i put the earphones I can listen to all sounds. However with no earphones inserted, the JAMin speaker does NOT WORK!!!!!!!
PLEASE HELP !!!!!!
You must replace your Speaker, your spearker is broken
I've posted on quite a few threads but here goes again.. my HTC Charmer speaker got dead and I have to send it back for repair. After that, it works like a charm.
Your speaker is probably not broken.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=47702.
PS this has been discussed in many places. A searchwould have been useful.
I am having a hard time understanding people when using the phone of my s200. Even my bluetooth headset (HS850) is louder then the phone itself (and this headset is not relly all that loud either).
So, I am wondering if there is a way to increase the volume at all?
I am having the same problem, I have tried the volume boost tweak in the forums but had no luck. today I listened to the Qtek 9100 quality and it was far superioir, and what I would expect from a mobile phone.
I am taking my S200 to the service center tommorow and complain.
Qtek 9100 also has stereo speakers the Prophet does not, I agree that the speaker output on the Prophet leaves a lot to be desired.
looks like that there is a hack for this:

Let's not forget one of the most important registry hacks(taken from the wizard forum): volume fix.
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\AUDIOGAIN
there are various settings here, the most important is the earphone_uplink_volume that alows finally to hear clearly during a call
If anyone could clear out what the other setting are for, I'd be gratefull.
And why is there three different audiogain keys?

Craic Dub
I could not get it to work as a lot of people
I am now on my second prophet (Qtek S200) and the phone quality is still very poor. I think I am going to have to swap it for a Qtek 9100 so that I can hear the person on the other end of the phone.
Its not just that the volume is low in the earpiece, the actual sound quality is bad, it almost sounds like the earpeice speaker cannot handle the sound input.
i have this problem too and i try change a earpiece from a nokia 6630 that is the same and the result is not good the sound in 6630 is good and the same earpiece in s200 is very low, what i can do to improve?
There was an article
about changing Prophets poor speaker with the motorola cell phone speaker ,that is very close in dimensions but much more durable and louder...
You may google it.
HTC Audio Booster
Found this on the site somewhere, don't know if it will help

Atom has lots of problem
Atom speaker problem is one the problems that atom has. Is it atom or atom exec? I just dumped my atom because the biggest problem that I was facing was the echo at the other end during the phone call. Now I have switched over to Atom Zinc, which I have been using for last 2 months. I had upgraded my rom till the latest, no use..

i got same problem with my first Atom. the only solve is changing u,r main board. send it to service center
is there something which we can do about it i mean speaker change
or any hardware manual so that i can replace the speaker or any tweaks
Please reply
Leox
It's not the speaker itself. It can't add eny echo, it will only play what the sound chip sends to it. So there's no use in changing anything else than the sound chip, which on a regular computer would mean a 10 dollar sound card upgrade. On a PDA it's a full motherboard change, though.
Mastiff u r rite. i,ve go thru it.
speakers
hi,
i had the same problem with my ATOM.
if you can listen to music with your earphones and it is sound OK then the electronics probably OK, and the problem is with the speakers!
i replaced the 2 speakers myself and know it is OK.
If you are out of warranty, then you can consider replacing the speakers on your own – not so difficult job. You can order them on e-bay.
