New QTEK ROM, AKU2, Push email and Sent Folder - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi,
I have a XDA Exec with the newest Qtek ROM installed with AKU2 push email.
I have an account with 4Smartphone which gives me an Exchange Server account and so I have been experimenting a bit with push email and have hit a problem.
What I have found is that the push email process works perfectly so long as I don't include the "Sent" folder in the list of folders to synchronise. However, whenever I put a check in the box next to the "Sent" folder in the list of folders to synchronise in Pocket Outlook, push email seems to break for me.
What happens is that email takes up to 8 minutes to arrive instead of arriving almost immediately as it should.
In these circumstances, whenI look at the logs generated by the Push email process on my device I see that the ping from my device to the server is returned immediately indicating that there is a change to process. This causes my device to do a sync to get the new data - and there isn't any. After this happens a couple of times, I think that my device then deliberately starts to introduce the 8 minute delays so that excessive data is not transferred due to the constant syncs.
The question is why does the server say that there has been a change even when there hasn't been?
If I don't include the Sent folder in the sync list, this behaviour doesn't happen so it seems as if the server thinks that the Sent folder is always changing.
Any ideas anyone?

4SmartPhone.net and Push Email

I setup a trial 4SmartPhone.net Exchange account and setup my 8125 (with the AKU2 QTEK ROM) to handle push emails with my "AT&T Wireless" account.
I set ActiveSync to only Sync when items arrive. I sent a email to my new 4SmartPhone.net account and I got it immediately. I was very impressed with the service. When I sent a second email it took 10 minutes for the email to get to my device. I have tried it from different email addresses but I get the same result. Each email takes about 10 minutes to get to my device.
So my first few questions are...
Is this normal behavior for Direct Push?
Has anyone experienced this before?
Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?
My second problem with the push setup is as follows..
When I create the folder in OWA and my device syncs the folder shows up. When I moved a item into that folder (or any other folder except for Inbox) either from the device or through OWA it moves the message but when I check this folder in Pocket IE it shows 0 messages.
I also have "Keep copies of sent items in Sent Folder" checked but when I send a item it doesn't show up in the Sent Folder. I think this has something to do with the problem above but I am not sure.
Hi
First, I am not familiar with your particular device, but I am assuming it is running WM5. If so, I can perhaps help a bit with your problems, but not offer a complete solution.
I have the latest QTEK ROM installed on my XDA Exec and have seen and partly solved problems similar to yours.
To answer your second question first, to get aditional folders to sync you have to open Outlook on you device and select Menu->Tools->Manage Folders. You can then select the folders that you want to synchronise. Check the box next to your new folder and it will work as you want it to.
Your first problem is a bit more of a mystery. I found that I had the same problem as you until I unchecked the "Sent" folder in the dialog described above. When I no longer synchronised the Sent folder, everything worked fine and emails would arrive almost immediately. If I turned the Sent folder on again, I have to wait several minutes for my email to arrive. In your case, it sounds like you already have the Sent folder unchecked since you cannot see any mail in it. I would try unselecting all folders except inbox and see if that fixes your problem.
My only question now - and why this is only a partial solution for me - is how to get the Sent folder to synchronise and get Push email to work at the same time! I do not understand what is special about the Sent folder!
Hope this helps a bit and if anyone else can solve the mystery of the Sent folder I would be very grateful.

Direct Push - Connects & Syncs, but Inbox is empty

I've searched and searched, but I can't seem to find anyone with this problem.
Basically, I'm trying to get my new Treo 750 to sync over wireless with my Exchange server. I run the Exchange server from my own house, on it's own domain. I've upgraded the Treo 750 to WM6. I previously did not try wireless sync on WM5. My Exchange server is 2003 SP2.
At first, I tried connecting via SSL only to get a message about the certificate not being valid. After fighting and fighting with trying to get the cert on the phone, I finally gave up and disabled SSL on the device in an attempt to connect.... via any means possible.
What I first thought was success has turned into another problem. I know I'm communicating with the server, as the policy from the domain controller made me set a device password. It was at that point that I knew I was getting somewhere. Now, when I hit "sync", I see it checking for changes. At the bottom of the screen, it'll run through each step: Contacts, Calendar, Email and Tasks.
Let me see if I can describe this..... It'll briefly pause at say... 0/80 for my Inbox, then count (very quickly, in large increments) till it hits the 80 and move on to the next item in the synchronization list. This cycle happens every 30 seconds or so.
When I go to look in my Inbox, it's empty. The only thing I see is at the bottom: "Outlook E-mail 0 Items". Same with Contacts, Calendar, etc...
Now here's the kicker. If I send myself a test email from an outside account... say, Gmail, the sync app will then show "Email 0/81", then tick up to 81 and move on to the next item. However, nothing is downloaded. I can pull up a list of all the personalized folders I've created for my mailstore, and they're all there. I can "subscribe" to them, yet they remain empty as well.
I'm completely at a loss. I don't know what else to do at this point, and it's proving to be a difficult thing to search for. Any advice you can give would be very much appreciated....
Well i do not use Direct Push but maybe the guys at Treo 750 forums can help you more, here is the Blueangel WM6 section

Windows Live Mobile Push Mail

I installed a custom WM6.1 rom on my 8525 and also installed Windows Live Mobile but push mail wasn't working on Windows Live so I went back to WM6 thinking that WM6.1 isn't ready and only to find out that push mail isn't working on WM6 for Windows Live either.
So I am wondering if Windows Live is having issue and it wasn't the ROM all long? Anyone experiencing problem with Windows Live push email?
I know all the settings and I do have "As Item Arrive" set but I still have to manually sync to get my emails.
Right now I am running Windows Live Mobile version 10.6.0034.0800 and wonder if there a newer one out there?
I am also running exchange push email which works fine with no problem and I had both working exchange and hotmail push email working in the past but the hotmail push email just stopped working like 2 week ago or so for me.
Thanks
Bill
My email is hit and miss. Sometimes it comes automatically, sometimes it doesn't
Windows Live Push
How was your battery life when using 'As Items Arrive'? Mine was not too good since it had an always on connection similar to Exchange. I wonder which taxes the battery more out of the two?
thx
I'm having the same issue, Mail isnt being pushed from my hotmail to the phone... it did work originally but not anymore.
Any fixes for this yet?

Same problem with same Windows Live version as in post #1
Count me in too. I thought it was only me. It is totally hit or miss on a schedule as well. I have had it at 15 and 30 minute intervals too, and it is not getting the new mail 95% of the time.
Me to
Same here, I guess it stopped about three-four days ago. Up to then it was working fine and I was well impressed
I believe the only way the push mail works is if you are signed into your mobile messanger as well. If you are not there is no exchange session on your phone open. Live mail doesn't work through poutlook's normal exchange system it works on its own. It is pushing mail through its system at all times. Where you are logged in is where you will receive it. Consider your PPC or SP another login location like your desktop, laptop etc.. if you are not logged into messanger it won't work.
Just give it a try and see what you get.
Thanks,
Curious G
Push Mail will start working once you start Messenger Mobile (you don't have to sign in, just start the program). After that you can close it again. Alternatively, you could open Windows Live or click on "Send and Receive" in Messaging > Hotmail.
Battery time with As Item Arrives is OK, it consumes about 1% per hour on my HTC Touch Cruise. I have WM6 with Windows Live Mobile version 10.6.0034.0800.
Push Mail works fine but stopped working for me when I checked my emails with Outlook. This happened as soon as I signed into my account with Outlook Connector. To fix Push Mail again I had to
- Close Outlook,
- Sign in at Live Mail via Internet Explorer and
- Sign out again
Getting emails from hotmail via Outlook Pop3 works fine.
Hope this helps

Hmm. This really shouldn't be the case, as Live Services gets installed as a Startup Process when you do an install. As long as that process starts correctly when your phone starts, you should remain "signed in" to all Live services, including push mail...right?

I tried several soft resets and send test emails from outlook to my hotmail account but never received any of them on my phone until I opened a live application. I remained signed in after opening and closing any live applications, but unfortunately, they dont seem to start automatically. I had problems installing Windows Live on my phone, maybe that's why.
This made it work again
signing out and back in again - resetting all the settings - urgh - started working again.
found in another thread that if you have soft reset your device this stops it working
I don't use Windows Live, buy my push email works on my Mogul. I have my gmail account being fowarded to a free exchange server mail2web, and have that setup via ActiveSync. I have it set to as they arrive and don't have any problems. Battery life isn't too bad considering I don't get more than 15-20 emails a day usually
Maybe you could try something like that?

Weird email problem?

Hi. I am using an unbranded Hero on Voda in the UK and everything seems to be more or less fine, except... I have a strange email problem.
I have set up my POP3 account to check and deliver mail every five minutes (I don't use Gmail for this) and it works absolutely flawlessly except that every few days it simply stops receiving. The phone seems to poll as usual, but the mail just doesn't arrive, although it is there and later arrives in my Outlook inbox on my PC.
I have made no changes, installed no new apps or really done anything at all before the mail stops arriving. The only way around it is to remove the account and set up a whole new one, which is a pain - the main problem, though, is that I miss emails until such a time as I realise that it has stopped working.
Email is VITAl to me - does anyone have an idea as to what I can do to get around this please?
Many thanks, in advance.
download K-9 mail from the market place.
Try it using this program. If it contniues to fail after a few days, the issue is with the network or the server and we know where to look for issues.
If it works, then it's the HTC Mail program that is at fault, but you now have a program which does not have the fault and you can now receive your emails ok.
Are you killing any tasks, I have found that you need the HTC mail program running for it to poll for the mails.

I am only killing Tweet and Stocks, but otherwise nothing. Can the mail programme turn off itself for any reason? Besides, it is polling - just not actually collecting anything. Many thanks!
Same problem
I know its an old thread but I didn't want to start a new one yet.
I'm having the same problem with my BT email. Its OK for a week or so then just stops fetching the emails from the server. I delete the account, re create it and it works fine again.
Any thoughts?
I've noticed that mine sometimes doesn't alert when it downloads the email, I get an alert but the actual sync time is 10-20 minutes before.

This has got so bad that I have had to 'turn off' the HTC mail function and downloaded the free k9 app, which is actually better, as it automatically deletes messages from the phone when you delete them from the server (or read them on your desktop.) I recommend it...
have you checked whether your trash folder is full? I was getting the same, and then once I went in and delted all the mail from the trash folder, I started getting mails again. There doesn't seem to be a way of automatically deleting mails from the trash folder?

Push email setup..

Hi
I want to set my THD with Push email rather than the usual send/receive.
But I have a personal email domain hosted by 1&1.com, and when I go to my admin, I can either purchase a Microsoft Exchange license or a 1&1 MailXchange, and both seem to be major collaboration tools for teams of people. I only want for Push for me using my current @arjayweb.net domain. Are there any cheaper options?
My main reason for wanting Push is that I can I currently send/receive every 15 mins, but I've found too many times that emails haven't come through. Sometimes I can watch the 'connecting..' status line and see it go to 'Looking for changes' and then disconnect, but if I manually hit send/receive again, emails come through. If I can solve this, no need for Push..
Any ideas?
hi,on my htc i can change the send/recieve to every 5 mins

i've been using 1&1's Exchange Mail for over a year and am very satisfied with the service. i'm using the Exchange service to push my MSN email, it also allows me to use my MSN account as an alias (e.g., sending/receiving using a different email address). although i haven't searched in great detail, i haven't found a hosted Exchange service that provides the features i want (aliased emails, notes, calendar & task synching), 1 GB of space, push mail, ActiveSync, webmail, etc.
Thanks Cortez - couple of questions though:
- I only want my email to be pushed. Don't need synchronising of any other bits. Did you ever find a service that does just that?
- why do you need Activesynch if you have push?
JonPickles70 - one for you too:
-Not sure if you actually have your send/receive set to every 5 mins, but do you find it always manages to connect and download new mails each time it attempts? Like I said before, I have a problem that my phone attempts to connect every 15 mins, but doesn't list any new messages, but when I manually kick-off, new emails come through. Do you (anyone else?) have this problem
Thanks
yes arjay my email which is blueyonder is set for 5 mins and whenever i get an email(i know cause on pc alot 2) it comes straight through within 5 mins at the longest.i also have hotmail which comes through straight away.im on o2 in england with an orange hd which i set up myself with settings i found on webpages after strenious searching http://www.knowyourmobile.com/info/...up_email_and_the_internet_on_your_mobile.html was one site that mite b helpful if ur on one of those networks with those email providers
