Hi all,
i am trying to remotetly control my PC using VNC running over bluetooth(PDA2k connecting to Windows XP).
It works fine but there is an annoying option which seems to be resetting with every restart of windows xp.
This option is supposed to 'Always alow this device to access this service' which is true during the current session of windows.
Any idea on how to set permanently this option so that it does not go away with every reboot ?
Thanks
Chris

I have my 8525 setup to sync my calendar and contacts with my work exchange server. It works fine unless I connect my phone to my home PC and ActiveSync tries to sync it. I suspect the exchange server is setup to recognize mobile devices and not allow a non mobile device to connect.
Is there anyway to prevent the sync when connected to the PC and leave it enabled for getting it's own updates through it's own data connection?
Or is there a fix to let the PC successfully connect?
Turn off or uninstall ActiveSync on the home computer?
Can you just uninstall or turn off the ActiveSync app on your home PC? If you turn off the 'Start when Windows starts', it should stay off until you decide to open it on your own. The phone should still charge and that is the reason I am assuming you are plugging it in to your home PC. Just my 2cents.
Also depends upon DNS etc.
E.g. I have exchange server on local LAN, but use DynDNS to access it over the internet.
So, entry for my phone is mydomain.dyndns.org (or whatever). Thing is, when you plu the phone a PC on the LAN at home, it tries to resolve mydomain.dyndns.org, which of course it does, and ends up with my external internet address.
I solved this by putting an entry mydomain.dyndns.org in the hosts file of the PC I use to connect the phone, pointing to the LOCAL LAN address of the exchange server.
Hope that makes sense.
Could, of course, be irrelevant for you tho
Actually, I have just re-read your orginal post where you mention "Work Exchange Server" so what i have said is indeed probably irrelevant.

I do use ActiveSync on my PC on occasion to install/remove software.
I am not aware of any way to deactivate it though. I could of course remove it from startup applications but once you launch it you cannot shut it down easily.

Exactly.
The issue is work exchange and home PC.
Oddly though, I do not remember having this problem on my 8125. Perhaps I did have it and just do not remember.
Is there a way to stop the device from using the PC internet connect and force it to use it's own radio? I suspect this is not the device so much as it is ActiveSync on the PC side.
Is it a known issue that the exchange server is looking at the connecting device to determine if it is indeed a mobile device? The exchange server domain is listed as mobile.mydomain.com where our normal remote access exchange domain for Outlook Web Access would be mail.mydomain.com making me think it is specifically setup for Windows Mobile devices and it does some detection of the device type.
I do not seem to be able to setup different sync settings on the PC than on the device as they update to the other when connected.
Others must have this problem as well but I have not seen any other threads on it yet.
I'm just guessing here...
maybe you can try to erase your device from your home pc and stablis a new partnership again, but this time when the options apear, choose to sync nothing, I mean disable the sync options in ActiveSync at your home...
or set the new partnership as guest, this way the PPC wont try to sync but will let you explore or install programs.
If I understood rigth, you dont neet to sync info with your home pc, just instal programs or explore the PPC
edit: also, in Connection Settings in activesync put a checkmark in "allow wireless connection..." just to let your phone have a GPRS connection while attached to your pc.
Hope it could help.
Regards
Mablan
I cannot find an "Allow wirelessconnection" option in ActiveSync. I am running the version released a couple of months ago for the DST fix.
I think not plugging into the PC to charge may be the way to go and either plug into another PC without ActiveSync or into the AC charger. I was thinking about getting a cradle though and that would be a nuisance.
Would this same issue occur if I were using BlueTooth to sync with the PC? I wonder.
I also frequently have problems if the 8525 is left plugged into the computer overnight. It will sometimes lock up on me so that I cannot turn it on and have to soft reset, or it will seem to be working until I try and make a data connection and find that it will not connect and also requires a soft reset. This is a major nuisance when I am playing audio through a BT connect in my car and realize I cannot connect data and have to reset. The BT connect in my car is NOT automatic and I have to go to Com Manager/Settings/Bluetooth Settings/Devices then I have to Top/Hold on my Scosche adapter and select Set as Wireless Stereo. This is difficult to do while driving. Might have to look for a different BT receiver for the car as this is a nuisance that does not exist in my HT820 headset.

In Activesync...open File menu, then choose Connection Settings, a pop up window will open, in that window the last option is the one that has to be checked...
Also, if you connect your device to PC in home only for charging it, then I think the option of conect as guess is a good opction...
Regards;
Are you getting an error message?
Try browsing the internet while connected to the PC. Its often an XP firewall/security issue. I had the same problem with one of my PCs. Installing AS 4.5 fixed it.
Hope that helps you.
Hi,
My hdd gave up in my laptop other day bought another 1 installed vista
now im having connection problems both with bluetooth and via usb with my
t-mobile ameo
does any 1 know if there is a update some where to get them working again
ive done a windows update and installed windows mobile device centre
thanks
Im running Vista business edition and had no problems at all - even updated my rom!
What do you get when you plus the Ameo in? Does it show up in the Device centre?
sync centre has just got the usual offline folder
windows mobile device centre 6.1 has the mobile device settings and the not
connected bit at the bottom
its so weired it all synced b4 theres nothing different installed setup etc...
on the device it says "to synchronize this device, you must install activesync 4.5 or newer on your desktop computer"
thanks
How Wierd.... mine lliterally just fired up autoomatically.
In your PPC, go to SETTING -> CONNECTIONS -> USB TO PC. Untick the "ENABLE ADVANCED NETWORK FUNCTIONALITY". Remove the connection by unplugging your USB cable and the plugging it again. No guarantee this will work, but you may try.
IT Works
i tried the unticking the advance option still didnt work...
i thought about the user account control in vista this came as my mobile
data card for my laptop wasnt installed correctly and after checking out the
install log and it saying access control n a load of other stuff saying
permission denied etc.... i thought id turn vistas user account control off this
fixed my data card problem ......i then pluged my t-mobile ameo in and hey
presto it picked it up as a black HTC Advantage due to my mobile 6 rom
upgrade
I believe Active Sync won't work on Visat, you need Mobile Device Center, available here

Makes sense as I have crappy user control switched off as it annoyed me greatly!
Vista Utlimate Connects but refuses access.
This solution worked instantly for us.

We had downloaded the upgrade device driver and the Windoze Vista replacement for ActiveSync... as Vista dictates on first connection.
We got the sound effect acknowledging USB connection, but Windoze Mobile Device Centre obstinately ignored the connection.
We tried the tricks suggested by the mages and sages, like adding ports etc. to the firewall, and deleting the driver in the Vista Device Manager... forcing it to re-install. None of it worked for the Ameos.
We removed the Mobile Device Centre and the upgraded driver, resolving to connect to the Ameos only via our XP Tablet instead.
It seemed that the USB connection was being made, but something else was blocking it.
Then this possible solution (reproduced here) caught our eye.
It was the work of a moment to follow the path and remove the check in that item.
Imagine our surprise and delight when we connected to Windoze Vista Ultimate again... and remember that there is no upgraded driver or Mobile Device Centre installed now... and we got the "what shall I do with this device" dialogue box. We checked the item to open the device in a folder each time and... it did... and does... just that.
We do not need synchronisation for our use of the Ameos since all of the significant email and document traffic occurs on the laptops and Tablet, but we can appreciate why someone would want that Mobile Device Centre to be re-installed. We won't be doing that anytime soon though.
Congratulations to you cayotte, and this forum as a whole.
BTW, I read about the problems folks have with the Microdrive. We have two Ameos. One works great with the Microdrive, the other one does not, and we have to leave it for data files only.
The older unit is the one which works well.
We already had the User Account Control turned off so I cannot say if that had any effect.

On XP with ActiveSync I can keep my 3G connection going reliably while still syncing. Whatever I do with Vista, the 3G connection goes down and I assume the "Internet" connection goes through the USB. Downside of this for me is VOIP - get a VOIP call while the phone's in the holder and you can't pick it up without losing the connection.
Gotta say I'm no fan of Vista Home Premium, besides not having remote desktop, we're forced to use their Windows Mobile Device Center. I've done Mr.Vanx's Vista hack, but haven't dared to upgrade anything on that system given it's wierd behaviour (relay on my XP system instead).
What am I missing here? Anyone else get the Vista sync to work as well as with XP?
(I've run some searches, but must have missed something.)
did you make sure you turned off the data service through the connection options? I know somewhere in there it gives you the option to allow data connections while connected to the pc.
I would never upgrade a device over Vista the sync center; it is so unstable, I too run Vista but to upgrade I have to boot into XP because device center crashes just synching and this is on a top spec machine. I would never trust it to do a upgrade.
Thanks for the tip, vwest87, but I guess that's what I'm after.
In the connection settings on XP ActiveSync if you select "Allow data connections on device when connected to PC" and have the device set to "Enable advanced network functionality" in the USB to PC connection settings, the phone can sync with the computer while at the same time maintaining the 3G data connection. With the same settings on Vista WMDC, I've mostly experienced that the 3G connection shuts down and all data is rerouted to the USB connection.
Now, after uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times it appears to be working as it should (like XP ActiveSync). Guess Murphy's law is in play here. As soon as I put up a post, it miraculously fixes itself. That's what I love about M$, they somehow manage to put magic into a system that's supposed to be logical and controllable (or maybe its gremlins).
Douh! Spoke too soon. Vista shut down WMDC and the device lost the 3G connection and began cyclically trying to reconnect right after my last post. Vista claims that the WMDC host process was improperly using system memory.
Imagine if that happened while upgrading a radio ROM. Upgrading on Vista is tantamount to Russian roulette with your device.
Oh well, back to disabling advanced network functionality on the device to use the USB connection as a charger only.
Everytime I try and sync my Dual I get the messge "To synchronize this device, you must install Activesync 4.5 or newer on your desktop computer". I have been all over the internet looking for a solution but nothing works. I have installed the newest version of Mobile Device Center and updated, unchecked the usb to pc box under connections, nothing works. Can someone plese help me out.
which OS are you using in your desktop pc?
worth a try
1/turn on the speaker volune of your pc + make sure in connecton setting allow usb setting is ticked
2/connect the phone do you hear a sound on connection?
3/does connecting the phone open up the software? if so what happens next?
4/do you have a firewall installed on your pc if so switch it off and try and reconnect the phone this is only for syncing if you are going to use internet sharing then switch back on the firewall/antivirus as it will not affect the network connection
5/if you want to sync with the firewall switched on go to the manufacture of your firewalls(i.e mcfee/norton) website and under support you will find configuration info relating to activesync and firewall software, otherwise do a google search for configuring active sync with your firewall (i.e norton, mcfee)
6/if still no luck try installing the active sync software on another pc and try syncing
7/ what operating system are you using
Yes, check your firewall settings. Had the same problem with NOD.
well i couldnt get it to sync so i just said screw it and reformatted my laptop then did all updates then tried to sync and it worked fine.
I've been seeing a few threads where people are having issues connecting their WinMo device to Windows Mobile Device Center using Bluetooth. Seeing the option available, and having issue myself I decided to play around with it.
In this testing I found out how to get your WinMo device to connect. However, your computer HAS to be running Windows Vista or Windows7 and have Windows Mobile Device Center... the older ActiveSync desktop client does not support Bluetooh connections.
so... here's the setups to get it to work:
Turn on Bluetooth on your Windows Mobile device
in the Bluetooth settings, enable the device to be discovered (60 second setting is fine)
On your computer, start the discover task
finish the pairing by selecting your phone in the discover task, allow the computer to specify a key, and type in the key on your phone.
Now that the devices are paired, set the PC as a trusted device on your phone's bluetooth settings (allows the pc-phone to connect automatically)
On the PC, open Windows Mobile Device Center and go into the Connection Settings. Make sure that "Allow Connections Using Bluetooth" is checked
Now that the pairing & the PC are set, go into ActiveSync on your phone
(on the HD2, running an Energy ROM, ActiveSync is found in Start\Internet\ActiveSync)
In ActiveSync, hit the Menu softkey and select "Connect via Bluetooth"
it will take you to your connected bluetooth settings to select the device, select your computer.
you're phone & computer are now syncing over bluetooth! enjoy!
I'll probably revise this post later, maybe add screenshots... but for now
the older ActiveSync desktop client does not support Bluetooh connections

Your comment made me do some more digging. Though you could have posted how it's done, I do thank you for pointing out the error
Will revise the instructions here when I get a moment.

I no longer run an xp machine so google would have to tell people how to do it.
just a quick search came up with this:
