For some reason the original sync name for my K-Jam has changed and now show up as a guest user. Is there anyway to find the original one as i've forgotten what it was
Just go to Settings --> System --> About --> Device ID
and you can set it to whatever you want.
I done that, but the name of the device is different from my original one i had when i installed it 1st. Was wondering if a copy of the names was stored somewhere in a folder somewhere.
If somehow activesync cannot use a partnership (=the name you assigned to your device), it will create a new partnership (=device name) itself.
You cannot re-use an old device name until you
- deleted the old partnership in AS
- deleted any leftover folders on your pc that refer tot that old partnership.
You can try checking your registry on your computer
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\Partners
and check the subfolders to see if it shows up anywhere.
Either that or wait till an I-Mate user posts his.

Hi All,
I've had to hard-reset my XDAII about 6 or 7 times now in the past 9months, and after everytime, the computer asks me for a Device Name.
Normally this would be "Pocket_PC".
But for some reason, the computer or XDA won't let you use the same device name as you once used previously.
Why is this and how can I use the same device name in the future without having to change to "Pocket_PC1", "Pocket_PC2", "Pocket_PC3", etc...
:?: :?: :?:
it's because the old connection is still located in my doc & settings\application data\activesync or somewhere like that you can
delete it manualy or you can just
use activesync backup and if you hardreset it then you can connect as guest and pick restore from the old connection and you will be using that once more
I need to change the ModelID reported when using ActiveSync. I have an application that I know will work on my 8525, but won't install because it doesn't recognize "HERM100". I'd like to have the ModelID reported as the Wizard (I think it's WIZA100).
Thanks!

You can change easy.
In your ppc go to:
Start-settings-info-user ID
Change the name of your device.
But notice:
I realiced that if I sync with 2 PC (with Activsync 4.1) after a hardreset, install back a backup, force AS to use the device name that I want:
my acticsync got messed up. (double contacts, appointments)
So if you sync with 2 pc I recommend to let AS choose the ID name of your device after you make a hardreset.
As the topic says, I can't change it. Actually I can, but as soon as I sync, it changes back.
I goto settings/about/device id/ and change the name. At the same time I delete the device from activesync (via file/delete mobile device). As soon as I connect it, It says it has found a new device, then changes the device name to WM_my_name1. I don't want it have that name.
I have tried uninstalling activesync, hard-reseting my phone and still no luck. Any ideas?
Hi,
I've got a new PC and need to transfer all my contacts from the handset on to the PC. I've got rid of the old PC and of course didnt extract the contacts file first....
There must be a way of doing it as all the data is on the handset right?
I've sync'd them both up but the data doesnt come across and I dont know how to force it.
I'm a little scared now as if the handset goes down I will have lost everything!
Please help (ASAP!)
Thanks
When you create a new partnership, and the PC version of Outlook is empty, but the PPC has data, ActiveSync should copy the data from the PPC back to the PC. If you get the Conflict Wizard, elect to Merge Data. Do NOT 'Replace Items on My Device' or you will lose everything.
To safeguard your data, copy the file called pim.vol (in the root of My Device on the PPC) to a safe place before doing anything else- at least if the sync goes tits-up, you can restore what you had!
1st thing to try is just to reconnect and let A/S run (I assume you've tried that?)
Next, is to delete the A/S partnership on the PC (Menu/Remove Partnership), the reconnect the PPC and go through the New Partnership ritual again, and see if it works this time.
If that fails, it may be time to remove the Outlook data file. Its called Outlook.pst and usually resides in a hidden folder in your 'User' folder (/local settings/application data/miscrosoft/outlook). Restart the PC, then reopen Outlook, and it should ask you if you want to create a new Outlook file (or it may do it automatically- long time since I've done it, so memory a bit hazy!)
Now either make a new Partnership, or rerun A/S and see if that works.
Hey folks. I am trying to rename my device (I have some software tied to the deivce ID), but everytime I connect to my desktop via activesync, the device is getting renamed.
How can I stop that?
Did you delete the Activesync partnership on your PC before connecting the re-named device? I find that usually works.
Yes, i did.
I loaded AS on the desktop, "File" -> "Delete Mobile Device".
Then, I goto the tytn (unplugged from the pc) and rename it using Start -> settings -> system -> about ->device ID and clicked "ok".
then, I re-connect the tytn (via cable).
ActiveSync then connects, but uses the OLD device name (It does go thru the setup portion - what to sync, etc.) but still on the old name.
Did you soft reset after changing the device name?

Click to collapse
yes, I did.
If you remove active sync (program) from both your PC & also delete all sync settings on your PPC, then you wil be able to reset your "name" to whatever you desire.
Look in Local_Machine/ident
