My MDA Vario is now 1,5 weeks old.
I use my Wizard a whole lot, I type around 5-6 SMS Text messages a day.
Since yesterday I noticed that I can press the upper-left corner (where the messages button is) a little bit downwards (to the keyboard) when it's "closed". All the other corners are okay, I cant press them downwards.
But it bugs me a whole lot that I can press the upper-left corner a little bit downwards. Does everybody has this with it's Wizard, or is there maybe some screw that is getting looser and may cause the pressing?
What should I do, is this maybe something to let it fix by T-Mobile, or is it "normal" that this happens with the wizard?

That really was one sick dream my friend....I really hope I never get that dream. A few months ago when I still used my SE P900 I dreamt it was broken after falling of a table....that was my worst dream ever
This problem really sucks, but good to know that I am not the only one suffering with this problem. Now it's just waiting for the problem that my stylus will fall out
Same problem here!
I live nearby Amsterdam, I think I gonna go to a T-Mobile shop on of these days and ask them what to do about it, maybe I will be lucky if they can fix it or something
Yeah just live with it. I think anytime you have moving parts on a highly utilized device it's bound to get "loose". I bought mine from madmonkeyboy in US and got the 2 year warranty. Nice. Already had to call them out on it once and they had quick turnaround. I've only had it for 5 months so I'm good to go! So I actually use my keyboard and don't "worry" about it. My next device might be the P51.
But why can't we just get this already...

Wowzers, what's that thing? It looks like a treo. I would love that. Or the G-Smart, or the SE P990. Whichever comes first

XDA2,
Well i dropped my phone, and it hit the on/off button, phone still works, but cant turn the unit off, this is the button in the top left hand corner.
Can this button be replaced??, if so, where can i get one, and is it possible to fit at home???.
Regards clumsy git.
I don't think so... The switch is soooo small! I think you can't fix the problem by yourself
I've had the same "problem"... sh... so I send the unit to repair....
chris
this might be something for you, it doesn't repair the button but it does allow you to shut down the XDA:

and then do a soft-reset to start the device again
mmm, that s/w works for getting the device OFF
But how on earth do you manage to switch it ON when it is allready off??
There are replacement cases for sale (saw some here), so maybe someone also sells the buttons.
There is a thread on opening the case (that guy had trouble with his speaker and / or mic).
Good luck with it!
You have the same problem as I did lofty The Switch you will find has been snapped off the circuitry mine was in a metal case so no visible damage was on it (It still looked brand new) so i sent it back and got a new one
Hi all
i did exacly the same and it snapped off the switch although it was still in there as i could here it rattling around so i took it apart and soldered it back on... good as new.. youll need a needle nose soldering iron though.. really easy to do...

Why don't you switch on using e.g. the green phone button or one of the other hotkeys?
round about solution
I dropped mine in the case as well and the on off switch broke. I use the red phone button to turn the unit on and assigned using a program called handymenu from Dinar soft - quick action another button on the side as turn off and this system works for me.
Alan
or unlock the buttons so that anytime you press any the unit turns itself on. just be careful of accidentally making a long distance call to iceland. saves you the trouble of mapping or dedicating one particular hardware button for a task. you can then turn off the unit via the method suggested by rey; or use tdlaunch to put a power off icon on the today screen (or put it on the today menu).
cheers
I bought an imate jasjar on 31.08.2006
Returned on 1.09.2006 with a faulty screen when device is locked into landscape mode.
imate replaced it with a NEW device on 4.09.2006
Screen fails again today 7.09.2006 on the new device.
Different packaging and IMEI number.
I guess at least this one lasted 2 days and didn't fail out of the box like the first device!
Has anyone else had screen problems when changing into landscape mode.
Mine fades the screen out white and has pink or blue fine vertical lines.
Do I try another or ask for my money back?
Thanks in advance.
my screen image changes smoothly from landscape to portrait without any screen artifacts. i even took it off and tightened it up after i dropped it and it became loose.
U gotta Try another.
Of course U gotta Try another.
U can't desert a JASJAR like that.

..mines a bit loose actually, is it easy to take it off and tighten the hinge?
i have the same problem sceen turnin white with pink lines, i 'll send it to repair, it seems to be the weak point of the UNI
3rd New Jasjar- No Problems now
Took three returns and a jasjar from another production run to rectify the problem.
Appears to be a pretty cheaply made piece of hardware!
I'm on my third Uni - the first (a G3) was great until the USB connector dropped off (a known fault). The second (another G3) felt flimsy from when first I got it. The hinge got rather loose after I accidentally dropped it. Also the earpiece speaker died when I dropped it.
I now have a replacement - a G4. It is far better made - much more solid, with a better keyboard and screen.
BTW, skywriter how did you tighten the screen - did you have to take the whole thing apart (as appears to be the case from the repair / maintenance manual)?
Hi,
I'm pretty distressed at the moment. On Sunday while out I noticed that the alignment of my screen was out. I realigned the screen and the problem seemed less but the problem came back after a minute or two.
After some Googling I tried the credit card trick for solving the alignment issue and now my problem is much much worse. I can not align the screen because I go in a never ending circle.
I suppose the best way I can describe the issue is, if drawing on a program like Note, the screen goes further out of alignment the further to the right of the screen I go. If I run the stylus down the right side of the screen the line is drawn about 1/3rd of the way into the screen but goes further into the screen at an angle as I run the stylus down the screen.
If I try to draw a box in Note around the screen edge the effect is like this;

I also tried to loosen the screws at the back of the screen when slided out but I have now lost one of the screws and frankly I think the online fixes have done nothing for me except void my warranty and make it worse.
My questions are basically
1) Anyone else have the same issue and find a fix?
2) Will a missing screw and a homebrew version of Windows Mobile 6.1 mean the warranty is now void / HTC won't repair it and if so
3) Where / How much will it cost to get this repaired?
I really love my TyTN but it cost far too much for me to just "replace" and I really could do with it being repaired for under £100 or preferably for free.
Danny
This problem has been around since the Hermes first came out. There are those that claim that various things will work to cure the problem. Having had a Hermes that did this I can say nothing worked reliably or fo more than short periods.
My suggestion is to revert to the original ROM or flash an official new one and then take a chance with that missing screw for a repair under warranty. I can see you getting a service centre to repair for £100 (though you coul check this out) I have also seen repairs supposedly done (usually an LCD/digitizer combo replacement) that continue to show the problem. I have certainly seen cases where folk have replaced the screen themselves and it has not cured the problem. Hence my guidance for a warranty repair/replacement.
Mike
Thankfully I found the missing screw yesterday on the floor, chance of chances.
I will try to flash the old rom and send for a repair, I contact HTC though their site. Do they reply often? Sometimes I've e-mailed companies and been ignored.
Might be worth giving them a ring?
Hi guys, I appreciate that this may not be the correct Forum but I get alot of knowledge from this site so if you guys dont know, no one will!!
My Xperia optical pad/joystick is having a mare...each time i rub my finger over it, my X1 trys to dial out and skips to menus. The phone has apparently become "moist" acording to the Vodafone shop (Which to me seems like an excuse)
I ahve wiped the device back to factory settings and the same errors keep happening. I have turned the Opt Pad off in settings but the pad still reacts to touches and just jumps though menus and try's to make calls!!
Is there a way that I can get this fixed or resolved or has anyone else got any ideas. This may be a hardware fault.
Thank you all.
Well I can imagine dust being behind the scroll 'wheel'. How about you try to blow it out with a can of compressed air?

Hi,
Thank you, I have used a can of air and this seemed to make little difference.
Maybe I could get the device apart and give it a pro clean although I feel the actual joystick me be capput :/
Other ideas?
Thanksagain.
Moist? The only way I can see a phone becoming moist is either from a bit of rain or sweaty hands. Either way, phones are designed to withstand this otherwise they would be completly useless for outside use..

I have the same issue. It does seem to happen more when I have been using the MobiPocket Reader to read a book for a while ... maybe my sweaty thumb is causing the issue ;-)
Seriously though, if this is really true about moisture I may have to trade my X1 in, it drives me nuts when this happens.
Is there a way to clean the optical joystick properly? (I'm going to try the air-from-a-can idea as well)

Nah, AutoScroll just irritates me , get distracted for a second and you lose your place.
I've resorted to using 'tap the screen to go to next page' option. Seems to work well BUT the point is the X1 shouldn't have this issue.
Vodafone have offered to 'repair' it for me, since it's still in warrenty, but it means sending it away for 10-14 days and in the meantime they can give me a 'loaner' which will of course be a peice of crap (I'll just use my TYTN).
Update:
I have found the issue! After looking on Google I came across a YouTube video of how to dismantle and reassemble the X1.
Turns out one of the transistors on the Optical pad circuit board had become slightly coroded, so I cleaned this up with a small soft brush and a minute drop of meths and put it back together and BINGO!
Also while the screen was out I left it overnight in airing cupboard in a ziplock bag with a pack of Sylica(Spelling) Gell.
Search YouTube for: "Xperia assemble Front/Back" User; CKY1
Hope this goes to help someone.
Cheers guys
in my case, I just adjusted the joystick to lower sensitivity...It worked without surgery..
so technically vodaphone was right. and it was a moisture problem.
I have a weird problem with my Wildfire's screen after I did an OTA upgrade to Froyo.
First, the top of the screen stopped working. The taskbar wouldn't work and I the top wasn't responding. All of a sudden, after approximately a month or so, it started working again.
It worked fine for a few weeks and then the right side of the screen has a problem. All of a sudden it started automatically hitting the spot on the screen where the letter "P" would appear on the keyboard. When I was trying to type out a message, the letter "P" would get hit on its own over and over again. When the keyboard was not open, it would still happen.
I felt it might be a virus, so I did a hard reset. This still didn't stop. So I switched off my phone and kept it in a desk for 48 hours. When I switched it on again, this problem stopped, but the right side of my phone was not responsive (approximately 4 milimeters of it).
I can see that this is clearly not a hardware problem and has something to do with the firmware/OS. I'm not too sure what to do. I've tried flashing new ROMs on to my phone, but it remains the same way.
Incidently, when I tried flashing "TheNextSense" ROM on to my phone, the phone started hitting the portion of the screen where the "P" key would appear. When I switched back to CM7, it stopped, but the right side was unresponsive.
Is this something to do with the memory? Or is this a known issue with upgrades/certain ROMs?
Any help will be appreciated. This is driving me crazy
why do you think its not a harware problem ?
for me it sounds like it is one. (temperature or short circuit problem)
IANAHRM (I Am Not An HTC Repair Man) but I think the touch screen connector has just slightly worn loose, perhaps due to temperatures. It sits on the right side of the main board (left side of the phone itself). I know the Wildfire can survive quite a motion shock so that shouldn't be it (I hope).
Nandroid backup and restore jobs heat up my phone quite a bit, did this occur on your device as well while you were installing roms? That might explain the change in behaviour.

Nope. It's never heated up till now. This happened all of a sudden, and it gets worse with upgrades. It's like, for some reason, the phone isn't able to function properly with any ROM other than the stock ROM. I'm going to try to put back eclair on it today and see whether it works. Will keep you posted.

Because it doesn't always occur. It kind of gets fixed on its own after a few days. It's like my phone has a ghost in it
I put back the stock Froyo ROM and now the problem is 50% better - much of the portion of the screen that was dead earlier is now responding. But the rest still isn't. Any ideas? :-(
