Jamin with silver talk/end buttons - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 General

Hi all,
I got a jamin with silver talk/end buttons and no it is not qtek s200 it is jamin, i find this strange because all the pics that I c for the jamin having black talk/end buttons, even the image on my package and the manuals are with SILVER talk/end buttons!!!
Anybody know if there is a jamin with silver talk/end buttons? what is the difference anyways?
Thanks in advance.

just had a chat session with an imate club advisor, he mentioned that the new Jamin has silver buttons

Then i'm glad i have one with black buttons.
Maybe later it will be a collectors item

The JAMin always had silver buttons sice day one of its release. Maybe the pics you saw is for other variant of the prophet platform like the Dopod or the Qtek.

Sorry for the fast reply before making sure, because I just saw the JAMin on the imate website with the black buttons, the reason for which I said it had silver buttons from day one because I never saw it inreality with black buttons, all the units I saw since the release were with silver buttons. Sorry again for the fast conclusion.

I received one from the first batch at Mad Monkey Boy about 6 weeks ago, I have black buttons.

I have the one with black buttons

Sorry again for the confusion I made, now for sure I know that the one with the silver buttons I've been seeing is the Qtek S200 and not the JAMin. The Qtek S200 is the one released with silver buttons from the start.

samkatta,
yes you are right the qtek has it from the beginning, But I checked my I-mate dealer today and he has the Jamin with silver buttons and he said that it was always like that, keep in mind that the Jamin appeared in my country mid Feb.

Yes rasmy, I know, indeed the JAMin was with black buttons (and still to me as I still have to see the one with the silver buttons).
Sorry again for any confusion that I have made beforehand.

Wait a sec....So, the latest batch does indeed have the silver buttons? I think the black looks better...

I think the black looks better too, but the latest patch is with silver buttons and it looks very good also, but I would prefer it black

T-Mobile MDA soft keys above send/end button do not light up

I was just checking to see if any one else had the same issue. I have T-mobile MDA, its working fine, the only problem I have is that the two soft keys above the send and end keys do not light up. Looking at them closely gives me an impression that they should light up.
they are not supposed to light up
I was wondering this on my XDA Mini S. It really looks like they should have lights inside them. At least mine isn't broken
site note: I love my XDA

Imate Jamin Buttons

I will probably take the Imate Jamin next month when I upgrade my cellphone contract, and last week I went and looked how the phone looks etc. at the company who brings them into South Africa.
I see that our version, the green and red phone button at the bottom is silver, which lets the phone look really cheap, but on all the pictures I have seen, the 2 buttons are black, which looks much nicer.
I want to now if all the other ones overseas have the black buttons?
Thanks
Nope.
I got the Jamin variant and the 'send' and 'end' phone buttons as well as the 'action' button (in the middle of the d-pad) are silver.
I don't think it makes the phone look cheap. In fact I like its form factor very much.
I have it for almost 4 month now and it works very well.
Mmm, wonder why the pictures have them as black, except the middle action button.
Probly comes down to personal choice, but if I compare the picture and the actual phone, the one with black buttons looks nicer for me.
The new production line has the buttons in silver. Older ones have the black buttons which are not present now.
you can buy the central pad with the buttoms in black. serach in ebay and you should find it.

QUESTION: how to stop the text/IE icons from wearing off??

ok so i have a wizard and this is my 2nd one.. and my text message envelope and my IE icon have worn off yet again! now t-mobile is sending me a new wizard because i called and cried about this so it will be here on tuesday. how do i prevent these icons from "rubbing" off? im a picky person so when they start to wear off i have a heartattack! any help would be great! thx
Do not touch them.
I've heard from many people to apply a lite coat of clear nail polish. But I never got to trying it.
Interesting - my MDA Vario doesn't have this symptoms (I use those buttons a lot in one-handed Messagign / IEM mode). They must be using some kind of better paint?
Weird never had that problem.
Mine have all just about come off as have a friend of mine's MDA.
That is, is there difference between devices rebranded by different rebranders / carriers? I mean I use these two buttons on my MDA Vario a LOT (one-hand operation rules!) and the icons are like new.
I don't have that problem eather!
I hope this doesn't sound facetious, but if the fact the logos are half-destroyed and looking scruffy is what bothers you, then I recommend you simply scrape them off completely.
You don't particularly need them. I have my 'browser' button assigned to Opera anyway, so I don't want an IE logo there. And the T-mobile logo bothered me, so I scraped that off too. Lots of people have done this (see other threads) - just use the edge of a coin to 'push' the paint away with vertical strokes.
The reason its rubbing off on some devices, and not rubbing off on others because some have these icons painted, and others have it engraved. For example my I-Mate K-Jam has them engraved, so no matter how many times i use them, they won't wear off. Now on the T-Mobile MDA (US) they're painted on, so they will rub off.
My suggestion would be to get the front soft keys from a K-Jam(or other device that has them engraved) and swap it out with yours. That would void your warranty ofcourse.

ok the problem with scraping them off is they are painted on which will cause the blue tooth led and the signal led to shine through and it looks horrible so i will try the clear nail polish idea and on the MDA USA there is no t-zones icon its simply the mail icon and the IE icon which i like both.. im picky
Are the icons on a Cingular 8125 painted or engraved?
The Sale of Goods Act entitles you to a product free from any deficiencies on the finish. The paint falls off these things like no-mans-business. Technically, all UK customers (I dunno about American law) could demand to have the products recalled and to be refunded shortly before the Tytn comes out so that we have some cash to throw at it.
That is not to mention the stylus issue.

painted.
I haven't had ANY problems with mine coming off at all.
I would just suggest you don't go rubbing dirty/greasy fingers on your buttons and they'll be fine.
what happens in my case is the constant in and out of my pocket action causes the paint to slowly wear
I have my US MDA since March 2006 and the paint on mentioned buttons is half-worn. BUT, it looks like the symbols are engraved AND painted on top. Same thing happened to the small dash signs on the soft-keys - now they look even better than before! The paint was obstacle, and now since I have engraving only, they are semi-transparent and backlit with green and red button LEDs (since they are SEMI-transparent, there is no difference in color between left and right one).

LCD and button circuit compatibility

I'll describe everything from scratch so you'll know what the problem is. So, I had 2 MDA Vario II, both developed a fault (on one when I pressed the button on na hardware keyboard it showed two letters on the screen instead, on the other the backlight under a couple of letters stopped working) so I dissasembled them and out of two faulty, I had one working and one working so-so.
As I wanted the other one to be sorted (the connector to the hardware keyboard was burned in some places on the mainboard and the keyboard tape connector as well), I was shopping for some faulty ones on eBay and yesterday I bought an original TyTN with LCD screen not working. I dissasembled both of them and connected the full LCD fascia with the screen to the mainboard of the TyTN (so that now I've got the LCD housing from T-Mobile, but the rest from HTC) and everything is working perfectly... however I'd like to use TyTN only housing and possibly buy a new one on eBay (but keys on the bottom are different for Vario II and TyTN).
I do know that LCD screens are incompatible, in the TyTN I have the HITACHI and in Vario I got the TOPPOLI (however the whole thing works with the mainboard, as both of them have the same product codes)...
But does someone know if I put the whole LCD from the Vario including the tape and top buttons in the fascia of the TyTN and connect it to the bottom buttons circuit, it will actually work. I will do it anyway, but if someone was doing it in the past that would motivate me to fiddle with it tomorrow
Sorted.
For all those with NOT working LCD screens/keyboards/mainboards...
As I the LCD screens are not compatible and we often do not know what we are going to get off eBay, lots of people face the problem of buying something that may not work with their version.
I needed the mainboard and the keyboard in my Vario II (HERM300) and I bought HTC TyTN (the original one, HERM200) with not working LCD (backlight working but nothing could be seen on the screen). As you may be aware that TyTN has got an extra button for 3G and Vario II not, I was wondering whether the whole thing would work. I replaced the full LCD screen with the tape including the two top buttons and connected it to the bottom circuit of the original TyTN. After assembling everything back, I switched it on and it's working without any problems. So if you have the same problem and can get hold of a cheap Hermes for spares on eBay, as long as you replace the whole lcd with tape it'll work regardless of your version...
Useful info thanks. That question was asked before and I don't think anyone gave an answer. Good to know it will work despite the different button layout.
cheers
Mike
