Hi, guys, I am a new user at this forum, which I found most useful for a WM-newbie like like me and thank you all for that. I bought my 9100 a while ago and am still experiencing some difficulties in setting it up.
I have been searching through the menus to find a way to delete all my contacts at once. Since I could not find any way to do this and was not willing to do a hard reset just to fix it, the first time I deleted them all one by one...and I had quite a lot of entries back then
Could anyone help me solve this problem in a more sophisticated way? I am about to delete contacts soon and I would rather hard-reset the device, than go through the same procedure ever again.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Hi,
install the attached CAB to your pocket pc and softreset, now you will find new options in contacts menu "select all" and "delete seleted"
hope this is what you want.
regards
This was exactly what I needed! Thanks a lot, mate! I appreciate it
Now the stylus is marking the contacts like a mouse would on a PC. I wonder why this opition is not a preset one and has to be installed additionally?!
Anyway, you've been of great assistance. I will seriosly reconsider the hard reset now
Best of luck!
Hi...I am afraid this will not solve yr problem. There are 2 ways 2 do it...
1) Use the default File Explorer & rename "pim" to "pim1" & reboot. All PIM Data will be deleted inclusive of all the Tasks & Calendar Entries.
2) Use Pocket Informant...as in addition to above..it allows u to beam all the contacts in one shot.

I have been looking for this for a long time.
Thank you!
Or when it is connected via activesync, open outlook and delete all the contacts there it will sync with the phone and delete the ones on the phone at te same time.....
Believe me, guys, Ammar's .cab file does the job and it's fine by me. Would strongly recommend it!

PLEASE can anyone help me??
This is crazy - I want to do a simple task - store my contacts somewhere whilst I do a ROM upgrade. Simple. Isn't it??
Well first I tried to sync them to Outlook, only to find that outlook express won't do, I have to use Outlook something else.
So I fished out the CD that came with the XDA II and installed outlook 2002 and activesync onto a branc new PC (didn't want outlook 2002 mucking up my emails on express).
But now outlook express is mucking around, and won't acknowledge the concept of a contact! Or and email account!! And I've been to the repair section in help, and it's convinced it's working fine.
This is turning into a bad day. Can't anyone give me a simple way to retain my contacts whilst doing a ROM upgrade? Surely there's a better way.....
Thank you so much for any help....
Phil Drew
Should easily be done in Settings -> System -> Permanent save.. I'm actually doing this way, they're safe to hard reset, and should be also to rom upgrade as this is a restricted area where upgrade routines shouldn't go erasing anything.. anyone can confirm this?
Well if anyone CAN confirm that, it would be great! I'm not sure about it though, as I've had some trouble with a faulty battery, and lost some things that were supposed to be in permanent save.
Please - can anybody tell us if permanent save will save contacts during a ROM upgrade?
THANK YOU!

I use O2 XDA mini. I think Permanent Save has a design fault. I have over 2000 contacts. There are many contacts with the same last and first name. For example, David Chan. When I do a restore after a hard reset, if I have more than 1 David Chan, it will prompt me for duplicated contact, and ask me to "overwrite" or "skip". Both options end me up restoring only 1 David Chan, and I lost the remaining 3 or 4 David Chan. Permanent Save is totally "unsafe".
about the outlook and outlook express not liking eachother i would try looking in
controlplan->internet properties tab programs
and check the settings of email and contacts there
Hi all,
is there, on my Jam, a way to remove the old appointmants? Or to configure it to remove the appointmants autommartically after a month for example?
And to find all the appointmants of my calendar?
All you have to do is go to the day you had the appointment, hold the stylus on the appointment and hit Delete. It really is that simple

Jimmy, maybe you don't understand the question... and it isnt so stupid as it can seems...
I guess that markino would like to know how easily remove a large amount of appointments from the device...and deleting them manually as u suggest it just take AGES :!: :?
Markino, you have to use outlook and click on the Option TAB (is a scrolling menu) > ADVANCED research > then click FIND
and outlook will show all your past and future appoitements that u can easily remove (after a sync obviously)
that's what I call SIMPLE things Jimmy
ps Markino I posted an image to let you see where it's located the tab OPTION on outlook
Cheers

Many thanks !!!
Has anyone noticed that when you go into the categories section in contacts you are able to create a new category but no delete it thereafter ?
I need to delete some old categories that were "sync"ed when i synced for the first time ie. family, friends, vip etc..... but you are totally unable to delete these once they have been created
Tried digging in the registry but could not find anything obvious ...
Anyhone have an answer to this ??
Cheers
Yep, had same problem with wm2003. Here's the fix...
1. Un-assign the category from any Contact, Calendar entry or Task on the Xda that you have assigned to it to.
2. Sync with Outlook on your PC
3. On your PC go to Outlook Contacts and open a new Contact
4. Click on the Category button at the bottom
5. Click on Master Category List
6. Highlight the Category you want to remove and click Delete
7. Now sync again with your Xda and the Category should be deleted from both PC and Xda
Thanks a bunch for the reply will try this as soon as i get a chance
i had that problem the other day and took care of it on my wallaby (WM2003). I'm sorry, I forget how, but there is a way to do it. I do know that I had to un-assign any contacts from the catagory, and I also had to completely close contacts and reopen before I saw that the catagory had been removed, after I found where to remove it. Sorry for the vaugary.
Good Luck!
Sorry but I have this problem on the HTC Universal ( i-Mate Jasjar)
I have 368 contacts in Outlook and I use the ActiveSync to synchronize those contacts with Trinity.
Well, believe it or not only the 320 contacts are copied into my device, an some of them are missing elements (phone numbers, notes etc...).
Has anyone faced this problem before?
This should be the most straight forward process, but for some reason for me it is not!
Any help would be much appreciated as at the moment I can not use the device as my primary telephone...
Thank you!
...and I am answering to myself saying that,
any contact in Outlook 2003 with a Note is not copied to the PDA.
Additionally, any contact that has a number that is categorized as Primary is copied to the device but the telephone number is not!
Please, if there is a Thread with similar content, transfer this topic there as I think that it may be of interest of other people.
I suggest you send your findings to microsoft. It looks like a bug either in Outlook or WindowsMobile.
You are right!
But if I am the only one who notices it, then I am not sure if there is something wrong with the configuration of wither my PDA or my PC.
Although, in general, these problems should not appear...
If a device can be synchronized Outlook, it synchronizes! Period.
Well, if anyone is interested, the problem that I am describing, has to do with my PC. I connected the PDA with my work's PC and Laptop, and it could synchronize contacts with Notes.
I also downloaded and installed SP2 for Office 2003 in my Home PC, but still there was a problem with the synchronization.
At the moment I can not find the reason why the two machines can not cooperate for these kind of contacts.
Any ideas by anyone?
did you try outlook self repair? Did you try Office Update?
I also have a similar problem. But I did not go into details to find exactly why some contacts are syncd and other not. Also some contacts are occasionally duplicated.

I tried both of them.
I also tried to uninstall all Office apps, and reinstall them and still didn't work.
I am so desperate that I am starting to think a complete rebuild of my PC.
I checked anywhere I knew. Outlook Options, Forums, Microsoft, Google. I do not know how to fix this...
Any help from anyone?

Hmm... Do you have Outlook Categories in use? Do you use subfolders?
Do the "non-synced contacts" have special characters e.g. a street named "Löwenstr."?
It is a very strange problem you have.
I had the same problem....
The only thing that helped me was to install a newer version of activesync...
After the Upgrade to 4.5 all was OK...
hi

You couldfind it in the forum if you search "hide Sim", I think. But anyway you edit the Registry:

HKCU
ControlPanel
Phone
ShowSim = 0

ah ah!! i see!! thank you!
Re the problem with synching:
Start>Programs>Activesync>Menu>Options>Settings. Choose what you want from here.
If I recall correctly you can select merge from the activesync options on the laptop or PC that you are using also.
