So many squares... - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 General

I'm having a font issues with the imate JAMin and I was wondering if anyone could help me. When I'm using IE mobile, a lot of pages display their characters as nothing but boxes. Most pages made for mobile display work fine, for instance Google mobile, but others, like CNN.com, won't display. I have no issues other than when I'm using IE.

I'm not quite sure, but it sounds like a problem with the codepage (is that te name? ) .... Character Encoding is the keyword, at least on a PC/MAC whatever... I just have my old Samsung phone at the moment, so i dont know, how to fix it, but try looking in a "View" Menue in IE Mobile, there select Character Encoding and set it to something like unversal or try ISO-8859-1 or UTF-8 enoding!
cheers & enjoy!

Chinese Characters
I have a similar problem, but with Chinese characters.
I can only see small squares, from Explorer to SMS.
No use to change the encoding in Explorer. It doesn't work.
Interesting it used to show the characters perfectly.
I appreciate any help.

Need an app that does NOTHING!

This might sound strange, but I'd need a program for WM5 Smartphones that can be called by a symbolic link (*.lnk) that I'd assign to a HW key and that does not do anything, just immediately returns without even switching the display. Does anyone have a crazy thing like that?
Thanxx, Mixx
PS: I am not totally crazy. I just have an HTC Excalibur (but the O2 XDA Cosmo version) that has a HW key for the Internet Explorer. I need to hijack that key, because I need to have a way to enter accented characters and I refuse to pick them from a huge table with the cursor. I managed to use AEKeymap, but if I use the current IE-key to switch to accented, it will first call the IE and only when I return (by e.g. ESCAPE) does it put down the right symbol. I figure, if I remap that key to this "does-nothing-app" (and I know how to use SHORT_IE.lnk), I'll be OK.
Currently I hijack the Messaging key for this purpose. That has the same problem, but if I am in an Email or SMS, it is no harm that it jumps to Messages (ends up where it started from, since I am in that app already). Thus I can have accented character in Emails, but not in any other application.
Nobody could help so far, but I am just too stubborn. This must be a solvable problem.
Some wrote just what you want:

Wonderful, wonderful, thanks a million.
Works exactly as I described above.

Chinese display support

Wanna know which software can provide support to Chinese display and input on a Pharos..
I'd like to try the English version ROM here but still, need Chinese..
WM can display by itself
All you need to do is add the fonts. You can look at this solution to explain how to add the fonts to the registry.
For an IME/SIP, I suggest A4 or TouchPal.
There is also Hanwang for handwriting recognition. I haven't used it since I can't write.
One other small thing - make sure that your documents in My Documents have ascii names. In my case, Activesync choked on the Unicode filenames.
Display solution is for WM5.0. Is there any for WM6?
Thanks
cestar can meet your request
yeah i have installed the CESTAR but i can see blind screen when i open the sms ...any idea??

WM Morse keyboard or SMS Client (developer wanted)

There are a few morse keyboards out there but nothing I can find for Windows mobile.
I’m hoping that someone special can provide some input into developing a dit dah SIP for WM. I’m also hoping that there are enough people out there who would be willing to donate to this project / developer. I certainly would.
There are some existing apps for other platforms:
iditdahtext for the iphone
http://iditdahtext.com/iDitDahText.html
I believe this uses multitouch technology; not something that would be available/required on WM. I believe the developer has no plans to port this to WM
I have also found a reference to an Android app
http://simoncook.org/blog/2010/04/random-morse-code-keyboard/
Other XDA references:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583903

The closest thing I’ve found for WM is MorseSMSer. This is not a SIP but simply an SMS client.
http://rapidshare.com/files/116167287/MorseSMSer.zip
I believe the development of this app has ceased.
Also just found for WM

Please don’t reply with question like “why would you want that?” People want things for different reasons – be cool and accept it
Thanks
WM Morse keyboard
Reserved for me!
I had a app that converted any text to morse i will look to see if I still have that app later but your idear sounds great
Dude that keyboard looks awesome. I hope you will find the devs.
anywhere else
Anybody know anywhere else I can make this request?
well... do you want a real SIP or just an application can be ok for you ?
by the way, what do you intend to do with your text, just sending SMS, MMS,... ?
morse kb vs sms
Hi Corwin9s
I was really looking for a real SIP so that it can be used in all applications (SMS, Word etc) but I guess I would mainly use it for SMS
MorseSMSer does work but it crashes if the focus isn't in the right place (e.g. after deleting a letter). I contacted the developer who advised that development had ceased. I offered to buy the source but I didn't hear from him again.
I've had a play with the android Morse keyboard on an emulator and I think it's brilliant. Although it does imply that “word suggestion” is available but I can't get it to work. I would really like word suggestion. This may seem silly when using Morse input but however I input the text my spelling is still awful. (This is typed out in word!)
I guess that I would at least want an SMS client that didn't crash.
- / .... / .- / -. / -.- / ...
£ $ €
Can anyone help with suggestions of where to turn to for a SIP or SMS client
£ $ € on offer for a solution.
Thanks.
WM Morse keyboard - font
While looking for a font for my favorite today clock (PocketDigitalClock),
I found "Radios in Motion" font. It comes in an easy type that contains the letter it represents.
http://www.1001fonts.com/font_details.html?font_id=1184
I have used it in Word Mobile , but be carefull where you place this file.
I keep it on the sd card\My Documents. If you place it in the device folders, you may end up with this font in things like comm manager..
I had to hard reset to correct that.
So backup before you copy this font to ppc.
Hope this helps.

Hey cac2us, not quite what I was looking for but thank you very much for taking the time.

Incomplete Unicode Fonts

So, I bought my Nexus 7 because it was conveniently launched around the time I was looking for a good portable computing device for some college classes. For the most part, it has been working great. But, one of my classes is Ancient Greek, and the Nexus 7 does not come supporting the unicode characters necessary to read the web-based textbook in Chrome (it has the core Greek alphabet, but not the accented characters).
One other app that I was using was AnkiDroid. I discovered I could load custom fonts in AnkiDroid, but they are only used when displaying flash cards (in other words the app's normal UI screens still rely on system fonts). So, I was still stuck not being able to see the characters I need even in an app that had some customization of fonts.
So, I started toying around with the fonts in /system/fonts. It turns out this is a bad idea. Renaming the original fonts and symlinking them all to a unicode font resulted in my device not being able to get past the boot-up logo. Fortunately I was able to use CWM Recovery to fix things back up (in case anyone else gets stuck in this mess, use the CWM touch options to mount /system and then use "adb shell" to go in and manually put everything back. If you deleted any original fonts you may have difficulty fixing it without a wipe/reflash)
Does anyone have a good way to get Unicode font support on a Nexus 7?
BUMP. Has anybody got any clue why this device cannot show some of the more arcane characters in a Unicode typeface? My Nexus 7 is missing certain characters with diacritics (in Pali), rendering it useless for study support. Macs and PCs that I have worked on have no problems doing this.

I searched for 'Pali font' in Google Play and found this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.anysoftkeyboard.languagepack.pali. The description has a link that shows how to install suitable fonts.
An advance...

Elmicha, thank you.
I had downloaded the Pali ASK but no keyboard was visible - I only today discover that it was only the font set that I had downloaded(!) and so quickly got the keyboard!
I notice that, while you have kindly pointed me to a link, you don't indicate that you actually use this. Do you? If so could you - or anybody! - confirm whether you do or don't still miss certain diacritics, esp. the dotted n' - I only get a '~n' on a long press. I have installed a suitable font ('fallback') using the Font Installer app. (I hope) and restarted thereafter which gave me the ~n.
Sorry, no, I don't know any Indian languages (apart from English). But maybe somebody else can test it.
