Installing .NET Compact Framework Version 2 - CF 2.0 - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I just tried to install the .NET CF 2.0 on my wizard (Qtek 2.17.7.2 WWE). It fails with the (translated from german) message "low storage, free more storage". After doing a hard-reset I have had nearly 40MB free and .NET wants 5436 KB, so that's not the problem. Searching at Microsoft (http://blogs.msdn.com/netcfteam/archive/2005/10/11/479793.aspx) I found the solution: Error Code 4 means:
Incompatible device, security issues on WM 5.0 (installation prohibited by phone carrier).
Anyone here who has installed CF 2.0 or knows why qtek has omitted the install?

Thanks for the quick answer, but.... Can someone please translate it for me?

hmmm... I tried translating it at babelfish.altavista.com but it still doesn't make much sense:
Install another application on Pocket (any), but once the installation finished not to close not the window "Installation successfully". To launch the installation of net EC 2.0: the file cab is copied from Pocket in a special repertory which allows its installation (unknown repertory). After having copied the file cab net EC 2.0, the window "Installation successfully" preceding réapparait but the installation of the file cab net EC 2.0 is not launched. To make a software Reset: to starting, the file cab of net CF 2.0 launches out automatically and settles correctly! It is a solution found as that but which functions very well.
Does it mean that you have to soft reset after installing to complete the installation?

Basically he says:
Install another app (doesn’t matter what app), but once the installation is finished don’t close the window “ installation successful”. Launch the installation of .NET CE 2.0 (@ the PC maybe?): the cab file is copied to Pocket PC into a special folder that allows its installation (unknown folder). After having copied the cab file .NET CE 2.0, the preceding window "Installation successfully" reappears but the installation of the cab file .NET CE 2.0 is not launched. Do a soft reset: at start, the cab file of .NET CE 2.0 launches out automatically and installs correctly! It is a solution found, but functions very well.
Now I have a question, isn’t AKU2 already shipped with .NET 2.0?
I didn’t installed it after upgrading to AKU2 and all the apps that need .NET 2.0 with the former rom are working great with this rom.

No, it's not. Nor should it be. I have installed several apps that required the framework after my K-JAM ROM update and I have needed to install the latest framework in order for the app to work.
Needless to say, I have also have had problems installing the framework and I don't want to put it to main storage memory.

It installs fine on the SD card.... or main memory.... whatever... you must temporarily turn off all your today plugins, reboot, and then install CF2.0 before launching any other apps. I exit things like wisbar too, just to be sure.
After install, turn your plugins back on.... works every time. This is a known issue with the CF2.0 installer, btw... MSFT is trying to fix it in the next release....

I must admit that I was a bit sceptical but, wow, it works, great & many thanks!

Is it means there are two copy of CF on the ppc after CF2.0 installation? CF1.0 which is on the ROM, and the CF2.0 which is on the RAM?
If yes, somebody must try to cooked it into ROM to save memory.

Arto.

At least the Software I wanted to play with (WiFiFoFum/Hitchhiker) was complaining that .NET CF 2.0 is missing. I am using Qtek 2.17.7.2 WWE.

That's weird I wasn't aware there was a problem installing .NET CF2
I've been depolying applications from Visual Studio 2005 which seemd to install it automatically without incident.

What I did was I disabled all off my plugins, and rebooted the device. I then launched the install from the PC, and waited until I got prompted for where to put it on the handheld.
I then did a soft-reset of the handheld (used the styles on the hole), and this time when it came up everything installed properly. Once it finished, it asked me to reset it one more time, and I was off to the races.
When I tried it without doing the soft-reset at the install location prompt, I got the same errors that I had been getting...

Amazing! Worked perfectly, after trying 18 times in 6 different ways to get this installed. Can I ask what gave you the idea to try this procedure?

I have NO idea......it was sort of a combination of the ideas above...and I remembered that if something is trying to get installed and then gets interrupted, the system will install that FIRST, before launching any of the other programs...which may have been what caused the conflicts...

Sticky French ROM.

I’m stuck with a minor problem and have spent more than a week trying to fix it. :?
STORY
To replace an O2 3.20 Eng on PCC 2002, I have cooked a French Rom based on 3.16 Qteck and included the freeware I liked, one of them being a freeware named POI (Point Of Interest) to be used with Tom-Tom Navigator.
ORIGINE
My problem is that I think, installing POI on ROM, was a silly choice of me as I cannot save any modified settings of POI such as setting for Speed cameras.
PROBLEMS
Pb N° 1. : I cannot save my POI settings. I get no really error messages, but all is gone next time I open it. Does any one have a clue?
PB N°2: As I had no clue, I decided to cook a French ROM without POI in it. But I failed to reinstall the newly cooked ROM after downloading the EXE file and running it, my PC opened DOS windows with an error message saying ERROR UNSUPORTED LANGUAGE ‘FRA’ prior to opening the Program A window. Then Program A gives me an Error 007 No Rom Image File … Cannot find ROM image to upgrade you Pocket PC.
PB N° 3: I decided to build an English ROM on 3.20 UK. as it seemed that French language may be the source of PB N°2. But after downloading it and running the exe file on my PC , a DOS windows opens and close then nothing would happened.
PB N°4: I decided to use XDAtools to flash my original XDA ROM (saved in the first place on my PC) back to my XDA, but XDAtools refuses to write to my XDA memory through Program A saying error opening c:\...\English\ for writing Access refused. Error opening the target device. “
I have no idea what XDATools tried to open so I cannot either go that root neither.
I now quite perplex on how to solve question N°1, or at best getting BP N°2 to work.
Any hint :?:

Upgrade to WM2005 + compact framework 2.0

After a lot of trouble I finally succeeded in installing WM2005 on my SPV c500.
Background of this is that I also want to install Compact framework 2.0 and do some development.
However after the installation of CF2.0, restarting of the gsm results in a hang up when the sim-code has to be input....
After a while an Windows error message occurs ...asking me to send de error log to MS, which has no use because WM2005 is an illegal version...
Has anyone any idea what's the cause of this, or better knows the solution to this problem?
Try to turn off the input of SIM code. Sometimes it's buggy in this version.
Thanks, that seems to be working for the moment...
Hi...
where did you find the rom ? The Typhoon folder on the ftp is *emtpy* ...
/johnny
http://ronswens.technoboard.ws/
I stop wasting my time trying to upgrade to WM5. WM5 for this gsm is very unstable.
Lots of succes to everbody.
I'm in the same boat as Freeck, but I really need to solve this problem if at all possible. Does anyone have any information or leads at all on why installing .NET Compact Framework 2.0 on ronswens' WM5 (on Typhoon obviously) causes cprog.exe crashes on the next reboot? Even if it's just background info or a "you're doomed, ha ha ha!", it'd be helpful at this point .
Thanks in advance!
Download the last version of SPV-Service client from here.
Extract all the files from archive to some folder on the PC and run SPVServices.exe (press OK on the phone when it ask to install TyphoonNBFTools.dll).
Click 'CID Tool (Alpha)' on the left and press [Set CID = 11111111] on the right. Wait untill it's done.

When i open SPVServices.exe it just opens up this app on my pc that says RAPI INIT OK or something like that, but no prompt on the phone to install TyphoonNBFTools.dll

For those using WM5 & WM6 should be using <NETCFv35.wm.armv4i.cab>.
I have tried the beta somewhere in September.
To see the wonders of 3.5, take a look at one of the Apps called <SimpleOS> which uses 3.5.
http://www.xdaflameusers.com/viewtopic.php?pid=789#p789
Here is my experience,
I am using O2 XDA Flame which come with default .NetCF v.10 until I come across <SimpleOS> which need v3.5, so I install v3.5 beta just to try out <SimpleOS> without installing v2.0. So some other Apps which needs v2.0 did not work at all.
Not sure if the problem is in the Apps using .NetCF v1.0/v2.0 or the problem is in the .NetCF itself.
V2.0 Removal?
I picked this up in a thread "Serious Problem Here.." in the Hermes Mobile 6 forum. Seems to indicate that V2.0 does not need to be removed before installing (in this case) V3.0.
I installed my V2.0 using an .msi file from the PC using ActiveSync 4.5. I don't see it listed in the Remove Programs list. I would like to remove it but see no way of doing so. Many others probably installed V2.0 in a similar fashion (from the MS web site). Am I correct in assuming that, if not cooked into the ROM and installed later using an .msi file from the PC, V2.0 probably can't be uninstalled?

You're probably missing version 2.0 of the .NET framework. .NET Framework is to be left in place once installed. You should have left V 2.0 installed and added .NET 3.0. Go to www.microsoft.com/net and get version 2.0 redistributable re-installed on your machine. (If you can). If you cannot, search the KB and you may get by without rebuilding your OS.

hi, thank you so much, I have a question, how do you get the registry from those cabs ?
Any differences between NetCF and Sqlce ?
thanks
For anyone that finds this and needs what I needed...to get this loaded on their phones...I had the wrong thing at first.
Need to get...NETCFSetupv35.msi from microsoft.
Running this from PC installed right onto my HTC Fuze no problem. (I am on active sync)
The instructions for running cab showed up on phone screen and I just installed to device and not my card. (No reason why, other than made sense to me.)
I needed this for the Advanced Config v3. Without this all I got was an error saying that it needed newer .Net than was on phone. File now saved for posterity and future flashing.

problem installing Power Toys for .NET CF 3.5

I ran/installed .NET cf 3.5 from the microsoft website into my phone's main memory and it said installation was complete. Then I try to run/install Power Toys from the microsoft website and it says I have to install .NET cf 3.5 first. Why is this happening? I can't figure it out and can't find the solution anywhere.
In case this helps, this is the process I went through. I saved the .NET cf 3.5 installer into my desktop, then ran/installed it into my phone. It asked if I want to save it in my device or storage card, and I chose device. It then installed successfully. I never had to transfer any cab files (is this where I went wrong?? I don't see any cab files to transfer). When I explore the files in my phone, I don't see any icon I can tap to run .NET cf 3.5 (do I have to do so to officially install it??)
I'm all confused...help
You have install it, but you're windows is still using the build in 2.0 (it's a reg key), try the cab in attachement (.net configurator) it will change the key for you forcing app to use the v3.5 and after restart i think you could install your power toys, but why ? could you tell me .
PS: you don't have to launch .net, the app that needs it use it without telling you.

Hey, thanks for replying. The net configurator cab you're talking about is actually a smart part of the Power Toys file I'm trying to download, so I don't understand why it says I have to "install .net cf 3.5 first", even though I've already installed it and my phone says I have both v2 and v3.5. I dunno, I actually hard resetted my phone and will try again later, ha.
Use a cooked rom, if you have hard reset take the time to flash all the cooked rom here have 3.5 inside and 2.0 out, it speed up windows and most of all apps.

[TUT] Recovering Bricked 910c/914c with HP Software on Windows XP/Vista/7

Recover your iPAQ 91x with HP's ROM Update Tool on Windows XP/Vista/7
Hi guys,
I have just bricked my iPAQ 914c while mistakenly installing Manila BETA 0.5c whis is for 614c.
Here is another thread about recovering but since I am on Windows 7, my system gave BSOD while trying this method.
P.S. Driver files were 10 years old, from 1999
Forget it....
Her is the new and if you ask me, the perfect, easy and the secure way:
1- Download the latest official ROM from HP:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp43001-43500/sp43434.exe New ROM!
2- Don't install it, extract is using WinRAR, 7Zip..
3- Inside the sp43434 folder you will find a file called "hpRUU.exe". Right click>Properties>Compatiblity Mode>Windows XP SP3>Apply>OK, again Right click "Run as Administrator"
4- Accept the agreement and click "Next", the software will look for iPAQ 914c state....
5- Connect the USB Cable (Device is turned off)
6- Now press Volume UP (Left side) + OK (Right Side) + Power Button
7- Device will Boot up in RUU Mode since it is connected to PC via USB Cable. During boot up while hpRUU.exe is looking for device stage, it will find your device and ask you to update.
8- Press "Update" and the process will begin. After flashing all the parts, which takes about 5-10 Minutes, your device will be up and working...
Note: Somehow if the update process gives the Code 402 USB connection error, close the hpRUU.exe and then open the "Configure.ini" file. Inside that file edit the TIMEOUT value to "1000". After that start the procedure form the beginning.
The rest is up to you
That's it. Thank you for reading.
Special thanks to sergious for creating Manila BETA 0.5c ROM for 614c. Without his ROM I couldn't brick my 914c and you were not going to get this tut.
Recep Baltaş
thanks
Would that works on Windows Vista ?

BTW thanks for tutorial
