I accidently (didnt realise it was wm2003) installed a wm2003 game on my mini s. after the install completed i tried to run the game but my handset just froze. I soft resetted the device and removed the program, now my mini s is incredibly slow. Is there anything i can do to fix it or am i looking at ANOTHER hard reset?
Firstly lots of 2003 games do work on wm5 so don't be put off by this one.
Often when they uninstall they leave stuff behind!
1. Check \program files\ and storage card\program files\ and delete any folders with reference to that program.
2. Check windows\startup and see if any lnk to program and delete
3. If your used to reg editing check both software keys and delete ref to program
4. If you have a notification queue editor eg memaid use that and delete references to program
memaid trial found at
http://www.handango.com/PlatformPro...0&productType=2&platformId=2&productId=123995
5. if all else fails hard reset
6. check future programs before installing at wm5 fix site

hope this helps

Hello.
I have installed the IIWPO (theft protection) program manually (not in ROM) for testing purposes. After uninstall an error message appeared periodicaly. The error txt is "Cannot execute \windows\IIWPO_main.exe". Also I can not find any reference to this file in the registry (maybe faulty registry editor, PHM ?) or in the startup folder. Also tried searching in the file contents on entire device. No success. Please, help, this error message is pissing me off
might be late, but...
I had the same problem. It seems that the IIWPO_startup.exe writes an additional string somewhere (*.dll?) which forces the program to start. Btw. this means that it is not necessary to put it into the AutoStart directory, it should be enough to open it just one time after the installation.
Until someone finds the destination of this string there is a simple work around: just put a program file you always like to execute at startup (e.g. ClearTemp.exe) into your windows directory and rename it to IIWPO_main.exe. This will help
p.s. hexediting of the startup and main.exe does not solve the above mentioned problem but gives your iiwpo files and registry settings the desired personal touch to remain undiscovered
I uninstall my IIWPO easily. All you need is to reverse all the steps you followed during installation.
Remember to delete the line from config file in extended rom followed by a hard reset
Of course a HARD RESET will also solve the problem
I'm having this same problem....any solution yet??????
The reason for this is in the windows registry there is still a link to the program causing it to start. Use a program such as memaid which will find all dead links and delete them i had a problem similar to this with another program. Memaid solved it for me, hope it works for you also

Thanks for the advice.........
unfortunately.............I tried memaid...........but it didn't solve the problem.....
anyone else?
Registry key location would be somewhere like HKLM to startup applications. Hard reset will definitely solve your problem.

Hi,
i want to install the programs to a directory on the mmc card.
But if i do so, it installs in the root.
Now, thats not looking nice, and its hard to find anything there then.
I want create a directory for games and programms on the card.
How can i do that?
I can only choose between, Memory Card, Storage and Main Memory.
And that sucks!
Maybe u can user WinCE CAB Manager and edit the *.cab installation directory to any directory u prefer.
You can use the freeware CabInstall and install program directly from the SD.
Yes, but on the on hand this would be a lot of work, changing every single files directory in the cab and on the other hand it wouldn´t work out with Progs, that have an exe intallation, like the game AoE.
Thos Progs, first install on the PC and then on the PPC, and there are no editable CABs at all.
I thougt about changing the installation interface inactive sync , but i´m not a coder.
But maybe, there is somebody out there, who had the same idea like me and realised it already.
The Best solution ever: have a look at the attached files, open the TXT file first (the instructions)
You will not need any additional Software (except e Regestry editor like PHM Regedit), just follow the instructions and use the attached files.
Workes great I am having this now for 4 months!
if you install the programmes to the SD/MMC card, and they make their own folder, put the SD/MM card into a card reader on the pc and select the entire folder as hidden. this means that the programme still works, but does not show up when you explore the card. this does not work if u are using your phone as a card reader.
Sorry DerliebeWolf, The BEST solution is the follow (Tested on WM2003Se):
- Download a registry editor 4 Ur PPC
- Open AskDir_ON.reg with the program
- Reset your PPC
manually:
- Go to \HKLM\SOFTWARE\Apps\Microsoft Application Installer\fAskDest
- Change DWORD value (dec) from 0 to 1
- Reset your PPC
If you install a cab file or an exe file from the pc (that copy the cab into your ppc and then execute it), Windows Mobile will ask you in wich folder you want to install the sw.
Note that you can have problems with some applications (because they're not installed in their own directory)
Check out Nonentity's File System Tweak http://forum.xda-developers.com/vie...order=asc&highlight=file+system+tweak&start=0
Cabinstaller is the best and easy software i could recommend for this. Run the cab installer software once and set it to run for all installations, the whenever u try to install a cab file, it will prompt you for the path of installation. It also has an option to disable deleting of cab file after installation. Do you want anything more than this? and to the max, it is free ware! Its easy to get, if you can't find,I have it in my site' software section. www.cartystudios.com
oh yes, i've forget that cabinstall associes .cab files to it (and then, when you execute an exe from the pc, in the ppc will be opened always with cabinstall in auto)
They're the 2 Best Solutions
Hello everybody.
Whenever I install a .cab from my miniSD card it dissapears from the miniSD card. Why is this? Is there any solution?
Thanks in advance.
Thats what WM does. It will remove the original CAB files once you have installed it. To solve this, copy a backup of the CAB file before installing.
Ot make a CAB not delete after running it. copy the file to your SD via your PC and then right click on the file and make it Read only.
Once read only the file will not be delete after being run.

Or just set the file properties to read only using TotalCommander /GSFinder etc. That way you can keep them all on your SD card in case you need to reinstall away from your PC.
bryanz, click on cabinstl.exe. check the option <Do not delete cab file>. The default is unchecked (blank). This solves ur problem
Hi blogg buster, in what folder is that file?
Thanks for all your replies.

cabinstl is a freeware program for WM2003 which lets you to choose whether to install the application to main memory or SD card, (which WM5/AS4 now does itself), and the option to keep the cab, which you can do anyway by setting the RO attribute. So IMHO it's not really needed on the Wizard.
OK, thanks a lot Ineedtoys
Ineedtoys, I think bryanz may be right but from what I gather u are running smthing which looks like cabinstaller. Check from Start>program to see whether u have cab installer. if not, then discard my suggestion. Another way is to use the FIND option from ur file explorer to find "cabinstl.exe" .
Good luck
This little cab will stop all cabs installed after it from being deleted, although it will delete after you use it. It probably is the same as putting a check mark in the cabinstl.exe program.

The only file I can find on my WM5 and 2003SE machines is a cabinstl.dll in ROM, which cannot be run directly. So if you have a "cabinstl.exe", you must have installed the freeware add-on?
Which is largely redundant in WM5 anyway, apart from letting you see or extract the contents of the cab prior to installation.

I have posted on other forums the reverse issue for some people with other WM5 devices.
Kevin Tofel and James Kendrick of MobileTechRoundup have mentioned that on their WM5 phones - Verizon 6700 and Treo 700w, that any installation .cab files that they install are not deleted after the app is installed. I wonder if the above little cab (or something like it) has been installed on some OEM devices.
Any ideas how to reverse this and have the cab deleted for those that don't have the functionality.
There's actually a registry setting that controls this. Here's a quote from a registry tweak thread on Treo Central exlaining how:
Make WM5 keep CAB files around after installing (1)
If you wish to keep the original .CAB file around after installing the application, set:
HKLM\Software\apps\Microsoft Application Installer\nDynamicDelete = 0 (DWORD decimal)
Or to restore to the default:
HKLM\Software\apps\Microsoft Application Installer\nDynamicDelete = 2 (DWORD decimal)
Make WM5 keep CAB files around after installing (2)
An alternative method of making WM5 keep the original .CAB file around after installing the application is by adding the "/nodelete" option to the Windows CE loader:
HKCR\cabfile\Shell\open\command = 'wceload.exe "%1" /nodelete' (REG_SZ string, no quotes)
I trialed a 700w for a while and noticed that it would delete cabs installed from main memory but not from SD. I'm wondering if nDynamicDelete = 1 sets this behavior.
Hi !
I've just upgrade my 9000 with Rom 1.30.89 ITA
With the previous Rom I can move shortcuts in Start>Programs in sub-folders created by me (for example: PIE in a folder called Web)
But now i see the shortcuts (of the pre-installed applications in Rom as Word, Excel, Agenda....) in Programs are hidden files and I can't move to my customized folders, i get an error !
I have an italian OS and the error is "Accesso negato" (probably in English is "Access denied")
Same error when i try to modify the registry from PC with Mobile Registry Editor or Smartione.
What's up ?
Is not my first Pocket PC and with all my past device i always was able to move folders in Programs and edit the registry from PC, but now I don't know what can I do...
Anyone with this issue ?
Thanks
answer
cut and paste the shortcut icons. you will have to have any start menu aplications closed to do this. It will give you an error if you try to move those icons if you don't close those programs also clear out all the checkmarks under start-settings-menu. this should help
I had this issue as well on my Dopod 900. These files seem to be classified as System Files now and are hidden.
I was using Resco File Explorer and it could not see these files. But checking the box "Show All Files", the files could be seen and moved.
Using File Explorer though, I am pretty sure that it sees the files with no problems. You can move them but you get a prompt saying that this might cause some problems with other software. Just have to click OK and it moves it.
Hope this helps.

Thanks sandrobber, I always close all the running application before moving the shortcuts and I clear all the checkmarks
@capkapak
You're right when you say "These files seem to be classified as System Files now and are hidden."
Anyway thanks for your suggestion, I can move files with TotalCommander also (not only Resco) and modify the registry with PHM RegEditor
Obviously both installed in my 9000
But i would like move files and modify registry from my PC....
Ps: This is strange for me, I always was able to move files with ActiveSync and modify registry with Smartione without any problems.....
Thanks guys for your replies
Hi
I using i-mate Jam
Whenever I try to install a cab file I dont get option of saving the program on sd card or on phone memory.
How can it be fixed?
Looking forward to your help
Regards
you can try WinCE CAB Manager for that, it's an amazing program to edit cab's, and allows me to even relocate some DLL's files off \Windows folder.
Beware that some cab's dont like to be relocated, however it's great to save some precious space on wm2003 devices.
Thanks iRiKi
I have found out that after installation, I can use Pocket Mechanic to move any program from Main memory to Storage Card Its a pretty handy application!
you can try these registry hacks. they work on my O2 XDA II Mini
Ask where to install CAB
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/software/Apps/Microsoft Application installer
'fAskDest' DWORD to 1 (DEC).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dont delete CAB files after install
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/software/Apps/Microsoft Application installer
'nDynamicDelete' DWORD to 0 (DEC)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
guess i quite didn't understand the first post correctly..
what you want is CabInstl:

it's the very first thing i run after hard-resets
