Then that same one, time towards which was looking for the way to completely hide the keyboard that appears to us in the screen in the Qtek 9000 and Qtek 9100 (also the trick with other WM5 would be compatible, but must have physical keyboard).
That keyboard did not do more than to bother to me, see at the most inopportune moments cut the screen, and was almost half of her the one that in oblong way, so I put myself to navigate and to look for by the registry until I gave with the key...
We took hold the publisher of registry and we go away to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sip key where they will appear to us some keys, those that interest to us they are these DWORD:
- AllowChange with value of 1 that we will change to 0
- DragStyle with a value of 0 which we will change to 1
- MenuBarHeight with a value of 52 (Qtek 9000) or 26 (Qtek 9100) which we will change to 1
Soft-Reset and, already we will have the totally hidden keyboard, to return to activate it we would have to the values of origin.

Hi Vijay,
Do you mean this program? http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/nullkeyboard.shtml Would this leave a blank spot where the keyboard used to be? (I think I read it some where, but not sure).

What I want is disable the automatic appereance of the keyboard (like when I open IE), so can I use the keyboard (on display) if I just tap the icon below??? Or is it all gone after these reg tweaks???
zago187: it sounds like this is physically shrinking the size of the window. But I guess it will require a reboot to show it again.
If you just click on the normal keyboard icon, it should hide it. Otherwise, use a null keyboard SIP. Otherwise, use VJSipSwitch and hide keyboard. Otherwise, use this registry hack if it works ok for your needs.

Anybody knows how to make block recognizer a default text entry method? Each time i softreset my test MDA II it comes up with keyboard which I hate. I found out how to turn on/of letter recognizer and transcriber from the menu, but I do not know how to make blockrecognizer a default. I think it is not written to registry as it comes back to the keyboard after softreset. Anybody has a solution? I used pocket tweak 420 for that before but this is the only thing I was using it for so it would be good to get rid of it.
luk
Off the top of my head, the best way to do this is to install the trial version of Fitaly, tell it so set your favourite input method as default (soft reset a few times to make sure it works), and then uninstall the Fitaly trial.
It's certainly not elegant, and there must be much better ways, but it works, in a quick 'n dirty way..
I love the 8125 with the exception of two features, both involving the keyboard.
1. Is there anyway to increase the time that the keyboard backlight stays on? And also, to turn the keyboard backlight on as soon as you open it?
Whenever I slide the keyboard out it's a little difficult to see what's on all the keys, as the characters are a light color and they are on a light-colored background. After you start typing the backlight comes on, but you need to tap one key to get it to light up in the first place. Is there a tweak to have the keyboard light come on when you slide it out? Without having to tap a key? And once it's on, can I edit a setting or reg key to have it stay on until I slide it back in?
2. If you'll notice, the first letter typed will always capitalize as soon as you tap the spacebar after completing the first typed word. This can be nice at times if you're typing in a Word document or something similar. However, typing passwords has become downright frustrating! You definitely do NOT want any letters capitalized when you're typing in a password. Plus the fact that all passwords show only as asterisks when typing them makes the auto-capitalizion hurt more than help. I always have to switch to the SIP when typing in passwords, as I get way too many "incorrect password" popups due, I'm certain, to the capitalization issue. Then, of course, changing to number mode (double-tap the round red dot key)can also be hairy when all you see are asterisks - It's difficult to know whether or not the mode changed when you try to reverse the numbers mode.
I've searched here and on the HoFo site to no avail.
Any help or advice is appreciated!
In addition to the above, I'd like to know how to accept an autocompletion suggestion from the keyboard, i.e. without using the stylus.

Hit arrow key down and then the enter key. As for part two of J-Mac's post, if you're in a program that has a soft key bar at the bottom this simple registry edit will give a hand Caps/Function indicator:
Keyboard status indicator – adds a handy indicator that shows you when caps lock and symbol lock are activated on your keyboard.
Use Total Commander to navigate to \HKCU\ControlPanel\Keyb
Create a new entry with the name EnableIndicator
Assign the new entry a DWORD value of 1
perform a soft reset
and auto-capitalization can be changed by going to the Input control panel applet, it's on the Options tab "Capitalize beginning of sentence" or somesuch
As for keyboard backlight - no hacks known of for the Wizard :|

Thanks for that - obvious when you know how!
Thanks for the keyboard indicators - very helpful.
Zeboxx, I already set that option, but it appears to only apply to the SIP - not the physical keyboard.

Great tips, BoycottValvoline! Indicator is working fine. That's a big help.
I don't know of anyone who has managed to come up with a way to extend the keyboard backlight, though.I can't find a registry key that addresses the backlight - doesn't appear to be one.

I've done this on my 8125 and I get no indicator when I use the hardware keyboard.
Any help, anyone?
Thanks.
I have an 8125 and it worked fine for me.
Take another look and make sure that you entered everything exactly as shown. You'd be surprised how easy it is to be off.
For example, check Start>Settings>Personal>Input>Word Completion and make sure that "Add a space after suggested word" is NOT selected. (If it is, you may be adding a space after the DWORD value without knowing it).
Plus check your spelling - Case and punctuation must be perfect when creating the registry key.
Finally, perform a soft reset afterwards. Now check the bottom of the screen when the hardware keyboard is slid out. (Make sure first that you have a program open that requires the keyboard.) Try hitting the shift key once, then twice. Same with the Function key. Once, then twice.
Once on, the Shift key shows a "C" and makes shift active for one keystroke. Double tap it and CAPS mode is on and the "C" stays there till you tap it twice again.
Function key works the same, but you'll see a solid dot instead of a "C".

I haven't tried it, but I found this registry key on another site:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Backlight\QKeyLedTimeout
It should be the number of seconds to stay on. Try 30.
Nah, that's on a few sites - but it doesn't work on the Wizard.
It's a hardware issue; no registry fix can do it on the Wizard.

If it's an .exe file, you have to install from your desktop through Active Sync. If it's a .cab file, just drag and drop it to your phone the Active Sync's "Explore" option.
Then, navigate to the file on your phone and tap it to begin the installation.

Have you tried registry changes?
UK/US layout (QWERTY):
HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd\Locale = 1033 (DWORD decimal)
German layout (QWERTZ):
HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd\Locale = 1031 (DWORD decimal)
French layout (AZERTY):
HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd\Locale = 1036 (DWORD decimal)
EDIT: WORKS FOR MANY WM5 DEVICES BUT NOT HERMES (SEE FOLLOWING POSTS)

Well you need a registry editor this one is free PHM:
http://pocketland.de/util/getdownload.php?regedit.Mrln_ARM.cab&id=22357
Download to your desktop (do not open it) and then move it to your Device using active sync. In active sync use the explore tab to open up your device. If you have a storage card go there and drag and drop the file onto storage card. If not put it in device main memory.
That done disconnect from PC and use file explorer to hunt for the file and tap it to run it. If offered a choice choose install to Storage Card. If not main memory. Once installed go to your programmes and open PHM.
Navigate using PHM to the keys shown in my first post and change the numbers accordingly.
Post again with problems.
PS changing registry has potential risks. There is a chance that if you d something wrong you will need to hard reset again. Are you willing to take the chance?
PPS You may need to soft reset. Do not just poke stylus in hole. LONG press on off switch until a message pops up. Say yes. Device will reset.

OK, it seems the info I gave above re keys to change does not apply to Hermes specifically. However there are registry changes you can make. The following information is taken from the "wiki" link on brown bar top of page:
Goto the following registry entry
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oem\Qwerty]There is a key called 'Layout' and it is in Decimal.
The default value of English ROM is 20409, and Chinese ROM is 20404 (both are in hexadecimal).
The suitable value for German Hermes keyboard is 20407 (132103 in decimal). =qwertz
The suitable value for Spanish Hermes keyboard is 2040a (132106 in decimal).
Probably Hermes use 20+country ID (409=WWE, 407=German, 404=Trad. Chinese, etc...) format for keyboard layout value.
The above settings does not work with the latest Hermes firmware, the following is required.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\keyboard layout\Preload]"Default"="e0010414"[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\keyboard layout\Preload\1]"Default"="e0010414"[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oem\Qwerty]"Layout"="132116"
The last setting is the same as in the above solutionThese settings are for Norwegian keyboard, country code : 0414Tested on fw. 1.31.502.1
Note: For those with a Chinese Keyboard Layout, Changing the Preload will affect Outlook, particularly when composing e-mails. Typing e-mail addresses will not auto-load from your address book for some reason. This can be fixed but deleting the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\keyboard layout\Preload] folder and all its contents. As of now, no known side effects from deleting the folder has been found.
A list of other layouts:
http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/reference/winxp/xp-lcid.mspx
Note2: For those using a Japanese layout (i.e. Softbank X01HT) with newer ROMs should use 30411 Hex. (197649 Dec) as value for keyboard layout in order to get ',' and '.' properly mapped:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\keyboard layout\Preload]"Default"="e0030411"[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\keyboard layout\Preload\1]"Default"="e0030411"[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oem\Qwerty]"Layout"="197649" Hope rhat all makes sense

Hi Saint. Sorry it's not working but perhaps it's worth another go - and don't forget do not do standard soft reset after changes use the long press on on/off button. The reason I say this is that there are folks out there who have said it does work (though they were going Qwertz to qwerty, but still, - see here:

Qwertz in WM6
Though our company IT expert went through the regedit settings, in WM6 this fix seems not to work.
A cab file would be the solution (without German editing or word suggestion)
Anybody out there with a QWERTZ hardware input running WM6?
Would be very very very happy to get help

Change default SIP (Sofware Input Panel)
I installed Spb Full Screen Keyboard and wanted to make it the default SIP (Sofware Input Panel). Some of the pre-installed input methods I never use, hence disable them makes sense. Here are some registry modifications I use.
1. Use a tool like SIPchange to change your default input method.
2. Disable an input method
Disable a keyboard/input method (disable=0,enable=1)
E.g. Disable Transcriber:
KEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{F0034DD0-2AD4-11D1-9CB0-E84BE8000000}\IsSIPInputMethod\(Default) = 0
E.g. Letter Recognizer:
KEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{42429690-AE04-11D0-A4F8-00AA00A749B9}\IsSIPInputMethod\(Default) = 0
More $SIP_CLSID$ keys
{198D503A-EFFE-4AFD-BC54-EED333C80E6D} = TOUCH KEYPAD
{62B00599-25D2-4E09-8C48-03BF26DB8517} = TOUCH KEYBOARD
{42429690-AE04-11D0-A4F8-00AA00A749B9} = Letter Recognizer

Little bit off topic, but any idea how to really disable XT9? There has been cab etc. around, but they never really worked for me. Every now and then XT9 is on by default when starting to write SMS for example = very annoying.
Yeah i have a similar problem!
i never use the touch keyboard or keypad. but when i use the normal keyboard with stylus that freaking black word-completion bar pops up. even when im in transcriber-mode and want to use that mini-keymap which has only the symbols and digits on it, that bar pops up and even obstructs the minikeymap. that means, when i want to enter a number like 1982, i press 1, then the bar pops up and i have to confirm the one in order to make that ****ty bar disappear and be able to press the 9! means, i have to do every entry twice!!
i thought, this is because word completion is on (even though i didnt understand why there should be word completion in transcriber or a full keyboard), but even after disabling word completion it remains the same. i found out, the only way is to switch to the touch-keyboard or pad and there switch from xt9 to abc-mode. then switch back to keyboard or transscriber and it works, the black bar doesnt appear on every entry.
this is annoying but would be acceptable if it had to be done once every time i switch on the phone.
BUT: as soon as i exit the word doc (because of an incoming call or just because i left it untouched too long and the screen switches off) and enter again, the same freaking problem araises again!
this really drives me nuts, please help me anyone! i have tried disabling the touch keypad and keyboard, but the keyboard still remains the default sip and the problem is the same still..
if anyone has an idea, please tell me!!!!
thanxinadvance

The sipchange Cabs do not seem to work for me. I am using the Aserg ROM and the PCM keyboard, but even after installing the sip cab, it tells me that the sip is not defaulted to the PCm keyboard.
Any ideas if this sip change cab works with the Aserg Rom or what I need to set to make this work?

I know what you're talking about but I am not really sure how to do that. Like when you enter input for a password in IE it pops up but for some reason only password boxes. That is definitely something to look into.
Check this post for a link to a cab file that - i believe - will disable the 20 and 12 key keyboards and activate the 40 key (password) version. the downside is that you have to give up the predictive text feature.
