With the new Orange ROM the locking kicks in whether the device is on or not. Previously, when I set the "Prompt for Password" after 5 minutes, that only happened if the device was off. If I had it on my desk, powered by AC or connected via Activesync, it would never activate.
Now, after the specified time has elapsed, up pops the lock screen.
I want to be able to have a password, but this is over-active! Is there any way to slightly relax this behaviour?

I did a soft reset on my phone (Clicked the soft reset button with Battery Pack 2003). I'm running ROM 4.00.16, radio stack 6.24.
Anyway, it rebooted, then came up asking for the sim unlock password. I've never set any kind of password on there, so I just clicked cancel. The radio status icon at the top showed it was off - had the X. I clicked on that and selected turn on radio and all was fine.
Strange, though. I've never seen that message come up before!
Me too!
I had that happen yesterday in Akron Ohio, USA on T-Mobile. Same situation, with the phone showing the sim lock dialogue, then turning off, and then when I turned it back on, it was fine. Strange because I've unlocked my phone! I'm running 3.14 with radio 6.18
Any ideas on what may have caused this?
Could you post screen snapshot?
Replicating the problem
I can't replicate the problem, but it looked just like a standard message box with text entry box included. Probably the same thing a users sees when they put a sim card from another provider into a locked phone.
does it say sim lock
what is the text on the screen does it say
GID CODE
or whatever
if it says enter GID Code try
00000000
Hi all,
I've got a case sometime on Qtek 9100, which is protected by a password (in fact 4 digits) you have to tap when the device powers on.
Sometime, on the first screen , where i should tap the password, a countdowns appears, going from 512 to 0, then from 1024 to 0 and so on, and it is impossible to unlock the device (i had to hard reset!)
Do you have an idea of what this could be? And how to correct/bypass!
Thanks

Well...
After two hours on Google, Microsoft and some good forums... I opened the manual which says "Each time you tap a bad password, the delays gets bigger until the device stops responding".....
Is this feature specific to Qtek 9100 or is it a Windows Mobile 5 feature?

The phone has a problem lately, it doesn't charge always. Sometimes I plug the charger in, the screen stays on, the battery though doesn't charge, power falls to 0% and (!) stays there! when the next morning I unplug the adapter it just dies from battery. The last time this happened I had enabled a simple pin code from the security control panel. Now I turned it on and it doesn't accept the code. I am sure I remember it well. But nothing! Can anybody help?
maybe it lost the setting and it needs the code before I had changed it. But the phone was newly hard-resetted. So which is the default code?
It is a known bug that the password feature doesn't work in WM6 (which I guess you are using). There are also several charging problems in (older) WM6 roms.
so you propose to change rom?
which is the best one to use? (wm6)
as I will be forced to hard reset (is there another workaround??? ) maybe I flash again... although I hate being unsure for 20 hard passing minutes if my phone will die or not...
I my opinion the latest PDAViet ROM is the best WM6 for the Prophet. Yes, you will have to flash to reset the password.
OK
If you lost some settings after softreset or power down after batterie is empty. You must setup your device and after that make a clean shot down! in the moment all rom cooker use a mode off the registry they speed up your device but it lost settings if you dont flush the registry back to DOC. and the only way to flush is after setup ... clean shut down and start again!
this fix losts of email settings ... pins ... wifi pw ... what ever :->
this is all a user error and a not full working function in cooked WM6 roms.
Can anyone help me get into my phone? For some reason it is no longer accepting the 4 digit password when I switch on the phone. It's not saying the number is wrong, just "Emergency phone calls can be made". It says this as soon as any numbers are entered and before the Unlock soft button is pressed. Pressing the Unlock button seems to do nothing.
I can still browse the phone using ActiveSync. Is there a file I can remove to prevent the phone from locking when I soft reset it?
I've got HTC home installed and the phone is running Windows 6 (an official O2 upgrade). I'd like to avoid hard resetting the phone if poss.
Thanks
Fixed
Tried the same 4 digit pin today and it worked! There must be a timed lock that kicks in after a number of tries. There was a clock running yesterday on the screen.
But the odd thing was that I hadn't tried to get into the phone for a couple of days.
Now a bit worried that this'll happen again randomly. Does anyone know how this works?
Hi All
My Father has an SPV M5000 (HTC Universal). He has unlocked the SIM lock from IMEI number some time ago.
Recently it started going screwy and so he did a soft reset and then it wont turn on at all.
He has let me play with it and if I try a hard reset it comes up with the screen saying "press 0 to restore...", but if you press 0 it says "clearing now" and then appears to switch off. If you press x it also appears to switch off.
You can enter bootloader mode and it displays SERIAL on the screen - when you plug it in to a PC the screen changes to USB. But when I try connecting using MTTY I get no USB port - although selecting COM5 seems to open a command prompt window - but to be honest I dont know where to go from here.
If I try a soft reset it seems to do nothing - although the orange charging light blinks once.
With it connected to a PC in bootloader mode I was able to reflash the ROM and it went through all three stages correctly and indicated it had been successful - but when you finish with a hard reset it appears to turn off.
Before I use it to wedge my living room door open, can anyone offer any advice? I have perused the forum, but cannot find anything which seems to match the fault I am getting.
Thanks in advance

It is possible that the battery had it's day and can't sustain the full on mode. I suggest trying with another fully charged battery.
Thanks Enigma... but it is a new battery and is fully charged - I too have an M5000 and I have swapped the batteries over to check this.
Thanks
