Unless I am just missing it, I have not seen an indicator when my bluetooth headset is connected. My old phone had a headset icon that was very handy to check connection status. Anybody see this or know a reg setting for this?

My TMo MDA has an icon that appears on the phone screen, upper right corner.

I don't know if it shows whether a partnership is active, though - might be only showing bluetooth on/off

No, it definitely shows if a partnership is active. If I turn my headset on, the icon comes on. If I turn it off, the icon goes away. This shows up in the dialer app, upper right corner, not in the tray or titlebar.
yeah, I wasn't referring to yours in the phone app though
But with regards to your indicator in the dialer app - I suppose that means you'd have to have the dialer app active to see, yeh?

I'm not sure of that. For me - it only shows that BT module is working. When I switch the BT headset off - the icon is still active as BT on PDA is still active.
Summarizing  it doesnt' show whether you have a device connected to your Wizard.
Any one knows trick / app / reghack to make an icon appear only when the partnership is active :?:
Im 99% sure that when I connect my HT820s to my phone i get a headset icon on my taskbar. And no its not always there when BT is on.. only when the headset is on and connected. I will post screenshots when i get home.
Anyone?

Have you installed Bluetooth Tools?
Not sure if that's even necessary or not, but certainly that software by very nature, does this so that incoming calls can be passed to Bluetooth headsets.
This can be altered, if you are using Bluetooth Tools, by enabling this item on the today screen, and turning OFF timed bluetooth mode.
If you are not using this, then I am not sure...
Yes, I do use Bluetooth tools.
I use it mainly for my GPS BT Receiver.
I will play with its options, and see if this can solved this.

Not solve mate - it's the whole intention of the software you installed.
Simply enable the Bluetooth Tools plugin on your today screen.
Then you will see a little clock icon.
Tap on this so it goes grey.
This means you just turned OFF the timed bluetooth option.
But mate, it ISN'T a bug, and is the very purpose of Bluetooth Tools for most people.
To get it to activate Bluetooth ONLY when a call comes in, so as to enable the headset.
Instead of PERMANENTLY having to leave BT on, and thus flatten the battery.
i'm pretty sure mine does it when i make the clock grey aswell

Rudegar,
If you grey out the clock, you turn OFF the timed element of Bluetooth.
It will then depend on whether you have Bluetooth ON, or Bluetooth OFF as to what happens then...
All the clock does, AFAIK, is enable or disable timed bluetooth...?
Yep.. guess you right. It's working so good with the BT GPS receiver, I'll just sit and enjoy, and let it work for 60 seconds, each call I make.
Even when I turn the clock grey it still comes on !
OK I can live with the 60secs business, it'll save battery life.
But what is the purpose of the 2 battery indicators 1&2 ?? Can't seem to suss that out ?

They are two different Profiles as it were.
It means you can configure settings as you prefer for one device/gps/headset, and then click icon 2 and set another lot, for a different device, then quickly change easily.
That info is from the Bluetooth Tools site, where it is all mentioned.
I don't wish to sound too rude, but it would be helpful if people seeking support would try reading the site where they download stuff from, or the original author's site, first...
http://bluetooth.i-networx.de/index_e.html
thanks for the help mate and thanks for telling me what it already says on that site.
My question is really how to configure those two settings ? I can't work out how I can set different settings for profile 2 nor how I can change 1 ?

Well, it's dead simple (actually, was too simple for me to understand until someone pointed it out to me...): you tap on '1', so that it gets the little grey box around it. Then you use the normal settings dialogs of the PPC to configure things like backlight timeout, brightness etc. Then go back to the Today screen, tap on '2', and again configure your PPC. Now, each time you tap '1' or '2', the set of settings will be restored. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a list of which settings are actually subject to that toggle. I know that the backlight timing is, because that's what I use it for: while TomTom is running, I don't want the backlight to go out, so while '2' was actibe, I configured the backlight accordingly. Now '1' is my normal mode, and '2' is the "navigation" mode.

Hi,
I've recently purchased an xda 2 from O2 it came with a free bluetooth headset, but I've a few problems and wondered if anybody could answer a couple of questions.
1. The little blue flashed LED, is it meant to flash all the time that bluetooth is being used? It seems to start flashing and then just stop.
2. When I go into my bluetooth settings and turn it back on when it's switched itself off I don't get the LED flashing then I go back into the settings again and it says that it's off. Is this what it's meant to do?
Any good guides/tools about using bluetooth with this device?
Beginning to pull my hair out and I've not much to spare!
Cheers
Marc
Free? from O2? how?
1stly howd u manage 2 get sumit out of O2 for free? i would be worried about that allready!!
what bt Headset did u get? with mine, i get a blue light flashing intermitently when the headset is turned on, and it doesnt change when im making a call.
which bt settings are you talking about? obviously you need to have bonded with the device, which the headsets instructions should cover.
to turn bt on the phone on you click on the bt icon at the botom of the active screen and select the On radio button.
if headset profile is enabled then there should B a small blue headset symbol next to the bt symbol, if its not set, or not turned on then it will be gray. if it is gray then click on it and hopefully it will turn blue to activate the headset profile.
there are sum interesting bt tools around, but the "recomended" setup is the Pocket Bluetooth Tools for the O2 XDA II and the MDA II which is available from here:
http://bluetooth.i-networx.de/index_e.html
I hope that helps.

sounds like you are using bluetooth tools and have got the clock symbol live (not greyed out), it times out the internet connection but doesnt seem to tell o2's software that it turned it off so when you go in, it quite often seems to think its on when its actually off !!
Hi, I didn't have the bluetooth tools loaded, but I've downloaded them from the site you suggested and everything seems to work better.
The headset did indeed come free from O2 I was quite surprised too.
I've think I've attached an image of it, not sure what make it is does BlueTrek sound good?
Yeah that sounds about right, their website doesnt actually give any details, helpfull as allways!!
neway, have u got everything working properly now?
Smiley
Hmm...somebody had the same problem with his Bluetreks G2 and the XDA2.
He did a special pairing mode and it solved the problem.
I think its in the G2s instruction manual.
Had a look at the manual can't see anything special in the way that you pair the G2 to the XDA2.
Do you use this bluetooth toolkit?
It still seems flaky, I tried answering a couple of calls with the headset yesterday and nobody could here me at the other end of the phone. Sometimes I get it where the phone says that I have "no bluetooth available" I have to remove the battery and insert it again. Is this normal?
Regards
Marc
Marc,
I get the same symptoms you describe when I'm using ActiveSync with my XDA2 over bluetooth, but never with my HBH-65 BT headset. I'm not using any additional bluetooth tools or anything like that. Just the standard built-in bluetooth on my original (November 03) ROM.
Sometimes if my bluetooth ActiveSync connection is idle for a while the connection drops and the flashing blue light on the XDA2 goes out. However, if I tap the little blue BT icon at the bottom of the Today screen, the setting shows that BT is still turned on. I have to tap it on, then off then on again to cycle the status and convince the machine that bluetooth is really back on again. :? This sounds like the problem you describe.
However, no problems like this with my BT headset, which works perfectly.
This isn't any help, but at least you know you're not alone!
Does anybody know if a registry entry exists to turn the bt headset profile on and off?
I've got headset working now but it switches off frequently.
Cheers
Marc
I have a BlueTrek G2 for my Imate and it's working with no problems at all ... I tried BT tools but didn't find it useful as I thought it will give me a "Hands free" profile but it doesn't :x
mokl: maybe it's a ROM issue ... mine is 1.72 WWE, what's yours ?
The rom version is 1.60.00WWE
Just to let everybody know, I had some major problems with my bluetooth on my XDA 2. Tried everything, eventually got a replacement from 02 and the new one works fine now, so it must have been a hardware fault.
The first puts a bluetooth icon in the bottom tray - a simple and quick fix
the bt trayicon comes from the universal hacks. It does send a warning but if you soft reset works well in the Wizard.
The second is part of the dktoday plugin (thanks to darek kot for this - see threads in other part of forum) It also lets you enable automatic bluetooth activation so that bluetooth comes on and off when you receive calls. And it has a call counter to keep an eye on total minutes used and on some networks counts sms sent. Also displays cell/mobile operator name.
Hope this helps someone
The dktoday plugin is superb! thanx

All thanks goes to darek who was very patient when compiling this.
I found the best setup is with lines 1&3 enabled and bt headset off. this seems not to drain the batery and I found the missed message bit irritating after a while.
Thanks for the BT tray icon! I was looking for something like that. The installer threw an "Incompatible Device" warning but everything seems to work nicely.
Yes the bt trayicon comes from the universal hacks. It does send a warning but if you soft reset works well in the wizard. Sorry should have mentioned that in first posst
OMG ... I like the DKtoday "program"!!!!
I turned off the displaying of the lines (1st, 2nd, 3rd) so nothing appears on my today screen (already full), BUT ... the bluetooth function (on when a call is received, of when a call is disconnected) works like a champ!!!!!!
Thank you!
Interference with GPS?
Hi guys
Do you know if this program will interfears with the GPS navigation?
I have a bluetooth GPS reciever so just wondering how this software will work?
Will it only recognise BT headset or any BT device?
Thank you
DKToday works fine with tomtom, it will get a signal from tomtom to turn on the BT stack, thus enabling your BT GPS.
Used DKToday since 1.60 up the phone ranks, best plugin for bt/signal/cost control you could ask for.
I've just upgraded from a Blue Angel to a Wizard, and the move to Mobile 5 is causing me a few concerns...
I'll appologise now for the bunch of questions I'm posting at the moment, but I'm trying to get the new phone set up as close to the old one as possible.
One issue I'm having is that when I connect my BlueTooth heasset, no icon is displayed in the status bar at the top.. so there is no way to know if my headset has connected properly...
Any ideas?
The other BlueTooth issue is with my GPS receiever. On the Blue Angel which was running Wm2003, I created the connection which sat in favourites, and all I had to do was tap the icon and enter the PIN code to establish the connection.. WM5 seems more complicated than that and I don;t seem to be getting anywhere with it.

If you open the phone app, it will show the headset is connected on there with a little headphone icon on the upper right hand side of the screen.
There isn't any icon in the notification area for it.
Hi,
Does anybody know if there's some today screen plugin available to show the current bluetooth connection?
I.E. If my bluetooth headset is connected, I want to be able to see it on the today screen. Now I can only see it on screen that is visible when a call is active.
Thanks,
Marco
This might help?
It places a "Tap here to search for bluetooth devices" icon on the today screen and can be toggled on or off via the today - items screen.
In theory it should work for you.
