I get this when trying to use the "c" option to install a splash screen, also when I try the "s" option to restore a backup splash screen, and when I use the "splash_bmp_to_wizard.exe" (i think it just uses awizard anyway, so no surprise there). Does anyone know the solution or have the same problem?
It worked just fine on my stock 8125, this is only since the ROM 2.17 upgrade.
Please check it out, Later; Lew
Lew:
Same thing happend to me. It is, as of now, locked. The lokiwiz and aWizard do not work with the new rom like the old ones.
I was able to change my screen using
ruu_forcedalias_splash_245
Run this and you will have new WM5 GSM splash. I have not tested to set if I can change to my splsh now.
The ruu_forcedalias_splash_245 had a.nbf file for the splash. I wonder if it is possible to change a .bmp file to a .nbf file. If so, one could make whatever splash loader they wanted.
Thanx for the reply and the program. So it changes the splash screen to something generic? It does not allow you to choose what the new image will be? You say that it uses ".nbf", I have a converter that will change a ".bmp" to ".nb" can you see if it works with that? I would but I am at work, plus I wouldent like a generic Splash screen, I suppose I would stick with the QTEK if those were my choces.
Do you have a picture of the generic splash screen?
Heres the converter, of course you have to be logged in =)
Thanks, that saved the day! As things were, I was too embarrassed to reboot in public. I mean, who'd like to be seen holding a sign saying "I MATE FOR BUSINESS, FOR PLEASURE, FOR LIFE"? Besides, mating "for business" is illegal where I live.
Mike.
LOL
Funniest post I have ever read on this forum, and the award goes to...

Take a bow!
still chuckling; Lew
p.s. I am working on changing the generic image, as we speak. I havent even tested this ".exe" but I assume by mpds enthusiasm it works. So now I am just trying to change the picture it uses. Any help is always welcome.
Alright I have come to know that the "ruu_forcedalias_splash_245_425.exe" is packaged so I was able to extract the files inside;
EnterBootLoader.exe
RUUGetInfo.exe
RUUResource.dll
ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID.exe
nk.nbf
This looks vary familar to me (anyone who changed the ROM or Radio on a Blue Angel would recognize this )
So the splash image (generic) would be in the nk.nbf.
I need to know how to extract the .nbf to see what is in there, and what can come out so I can find out what type of image I need to make and what to convert it to... so long story short (to late)...
I need to know how to extract an .NBF file.
Thanx; Lew
Lew, please tell me your working on replacing all the splash screens including the very first one when you start up your wizard. I am in a desperate need of replacing the initial image of HTC on my Cingular 8125. How do I replace this ?
Can anyone post a screenshot of the generic bootscreen? I would like to get rid of my ugly T-Mobile ( what designer thought it was so cool for pink, white, light & dark grey ) Splash Screen.
Best regards.
Is there anyone here that could crack this would be "encryption" on the .nbf in question? I tried encoding my splash backup from aWizard using the project file from the "decoded" nk.nbf from "ruu_forcedalias_splash_245_425.exe" and it was a no go. It said that my storage was the wrong size for this ROM update (or something to the effect of NO). So it looks as if this nk.nbf from "ruu_forcedalias_splash_245_425.exe" is the key to unlocking the ability to change splash screens to custom images.
DrBig74 where did you get "ruu_forcedalias_splash_245_425.exe" from? Maybe someone that made it will have the answer we need eh?
Later; Lew
Below is the Windows Mobile Splash screen. Those of us not using QTEK, it is a nice change.
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/HTC_Wizard/Splash_Screens/WMGSMSplash.bmp
I believe that I found "ruu_forcedalias_splash_245_425.exe" on the WIKI ftp server. I cannot remember. I did post a message to find this person. My attempts to make a .nbf file out of a splash screen have failed. With previous roms, one was able to run wizsplash and/or aWizard and change the 2nd splash screen with no problem. Oh, well.
Also, good luck changing the 1st HTC splash screen. At this point it cannot be done. Maybe some genius will figure this out soon.
Best,
DrBig74
Ok, good news, thanx to BrightMoonHeart I have been able to extract the BMP from the NBF using "typhoonnbftool_04.exe". The bad news is so far I can't seem to add an image (bmp) to the nbf or remove the current image. So this was a great step forward, just need a little help to get r done. I tried "typho2.exe" but I couldn't get it to do anything except give me the same info "typhoonnbftool_04.exe", It says it can extract the ".NBF" to an ".SPL" and that may allow us to edit it but I was not able to get it to convert. Any ideas guys? Always appreciated
Thanx; Lew
I have mixed feelings over the default Windows Mobile splash now that it is installed over the Qtek logo. However I have run across this... any ideas? have you seen this?

Hello ,
Have an idea?
look , good or bad track ? Partial ROM flashing

The remote client is necessary if you want to downgrade a ROM update having a bootloader version greater than 2.00
thanks
Bad track... NBF Tools use the same technique as aWizard, which was disabled by HTC in the AKU2 models.

i don't know, the size of the file for the rom is 27megs and the file version of the file is the right one for the smartphone that has been confirmed by other users. my program to crack the password for the zip file can take up to two days. i wish there was a quicker way around this.

can anyone cofirm this specific download works on a uk c500? And has anyone tried tomtom on it? Still a bit nervous of trashing my phone!
Thanks
if you read the 3 posts before your mainly the first i cant blame you for being spooked
it works on the typhoon type devices ( with the long horizontal navigator button ), not on the feeler ( with the small round joystick), or sonata ( with music player buttons )
on the non-typhoon devices, the joystick button behaves strangely, you cannot move left/right.

Anyone found a way to do this?
Would love to change the HTC picture before Windows Mobile comes up.

Changing "welcomehead.96.png" fixed up the windows mobile screen
(located in /windows)
however, the screens im after are the ones that come up before the windows mobile screen... The cingular 3g screens...
Anyone know how to change those? I remember on the sx66 having to do with .nb files and running an applications and what not. But im looking for confirmation on the hermes 8525.
Any info is greatly appreciated.
On hermes bootloader you can only flash code using 'lnbs' or 'wdatah' commands, these require the code to be signed with private HTC keys, so it's not possible to change boot splash screen until we find a way to flash unsigned code on hermes.

What do I need to do to get rid of the bootscreen that I got when I installed the WM6 vanilla OS?! The "Bring back the ROM archive" bootscreen..
Is it the bootloader that needs to be replaced (Let's say I want the original bootloader)??
Check this thread..if you're an AT&T subscriber like myself, then try out my custom logo. Just run "RomUpgradeUt" from your hermes and you're ready to rock and roll.
I've created a small tool which will take a splash screen NB file created using madkat's NB image converter and convert it to the new splash screen format used in HTC Devices such as Kaiser or Titan. It just adds padding with zeros and the string "This is HTC splash signature" at the end.
Enjoy
Nice one pof! Many thanks for all your contributions.
can we use this in our ATOM? so the bootscreen splash can be change with this, did i get the idea right?

Hello all.
It's been a while since I've been back here at XDA Dev. Was around when I had my Universal and hacked it to kingdom come. Now I have a HTC TyTN II. Had it for awhile. I've tried Dutty's ROMs and they are amazing. My problem is that I tried to create my splash images that I used to use on my Universal. However, the image convertor in the first post keeps giving me an error when I try to run it? I've attached the error. Was wondering if anyone could help. Also, is it possible to create the splash image from the Universal? However that one used to have a a 640x480 dimension. Let me know. Thanks.
same question ,pof will dis work in blue Angel with WM6
Wizard
can we use this in our Wizard with WM6?

I use to mess with alot of .ocx files when making misc yahoo tools long long ago. My thought would be to download a new copy of comdlg32.ocx and re-register it. I'm sure if you do a search on google you'll find them all over yahoo booter sites and such. All their prog's are dependent on various ocx files.

For future reference:
Place the file in %SYSTEMROOT%\system32
e.g.: C:\Windows\system32
Hi just tried the converter but it's corrupted. I get the error message:
Component 'comdlg32.ocx' or one of it's dependencies not correctly registered. A file is missing or invalid.
I tried downloading it again but keep getting the same result.
*EDIT: Found the solution in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334907&page=4 Post#37
This cabinet file contains the missing files which need to be put in the same folder as the nb converter.exe http://activex.microsoft.com/controls/vb6/comdlg32.cab

I'm wondering if u could have a tool that can convert the new splash format back to the old one?
Hi All,
first: I know there was just few posts ago same thread.
BUT!
What i really want to see here(We r in Polaris section not Kaiser)
is proper tools and proper explan. how to build and flash Splashes for Polaris.
I tried to do that with info given in Kaiser branch but no luck(mostly coz i was affraid to brick my cruise)
I have to deal with noobs every day at work (i put myself in noob cat. when it concerns phones-flashing-and etc.) and the only way to help them when screeming at u saying that u r as..ole and dont want to help--- is to draw them a "PICTURE" with what they have to do.
So.
Im nOOb here and i'd love to see that PICTURE.
It'd be nice if someone who knows this stuff and does it every day, would make some PrintScreen of the whole proccess of creating and flashing splashes for Polaris.
Thanx alot to all of u who makes our(nOOb's(but willing to learn)) lives more interesting
Cheers lads
Don't know about changing the first HTC splash screen but the Windows one that loads after it really got on my nerves...so if you want to change just that one this app worked for me.
It basically unlocks the file welcomehead.96 in the Windows folder. You can then overwrite it with a picture of your choice (renamed "welcomehead.96"), saved as a .png image and resized to 240x320 (I used Paint for this).
Hope this helps a little.
cheers dude.
SubSplash Flash
Hi, here is a group of very useful tools that load any image you like into the boot loader creating your own splash
There is an interesting thing: another Splash after the first one called Subsplash (when showing radio and rom versions) that is tricky to replace. It has place at the address 0x601. So, you have to edit htcrt_devices.ini file by changing the address wherever you read 0x600 put 0x601, look for your device (or change them all in the list just in case). Only then you can produce the RUU_signed.nbh. After that, replace into ROMUpdateUtility folder and flash. Try it. Almost one day to find out how to get rid of that awfull image from Claro Argentina! Hope this helps.
Hello everyone.
I was going to learn how to flash my hd2 to personalize boot and splash image.
I can't deny that i'm a bit confused.
I readed some guide here, like 'how to flash everything' and 'flashing your first leo 512mb' but there is not explained how to proceed to change boot and splash images.
Let's go then to know more about it.
First at all i got that i need to install HSPL2 on the device.
Doing this, we will able us to flash everything on the hd2.
But there are also other progs that i do not undestand if i can use instead the HSPL2, like leo_CustomRUU, or SSPL_RUU.
Maybe can be helpful if someone tell me/us ( noobs ) what is better and easy to use.
After this, there are two 'images' that we can personalize:
-the first is when we turn on the device, with the htc logo and the hand writing word;
-the second, the Windows word on the red desktop color.
The first is the boot image, the second the splash screen.
Is it right?
Okay, if it's correct, i suppose that we need to 'operate' on two different kind of 'image file'.
I downloaded a .zip file that contains various kind of images ( static ) with .nbh extension.
That are splash images, so it will change only the splash image.
I don't know if i can use it directly without rename it, if i must put that file in a specific position on the device or only in the sd root ( formatted ), and then launch the progs ( what kind? ).
Yes...need help for this.
Thanks
p.s sorry for my poor english
hspl2 unlocks the phone for flashing.
sspl is a one shot alternative to hspl, you don't need it.
customruu is a slightly altered version of the rom loader that comes with official roms. it is altered to allow flashing cooked roms.
you flash boot image just like roms, and it is actuallya small rom.(no hard reset needed, doesn't affect your rom at all.)
there are three parts to the boot screens, as you correctly noted, only the first part is flashed, the second and third are changed within your setup by cabs or replacing image files.

well i downloaded HD2 splash screen V1.zip ( inside the link that you posted here ) and inside it there is already Custom_RUU.
I think then that i must use it to flash the custom splash on the device.
Right?
and...i must put the .nbh file not inside the sd card, but in the device root.

i successfully installed HSPL ( not hspl2 ) on my device.
Now i'm trying to flash the device with an .nbh image, for the splash screen.
My doubt is:
1- where to put the .nbh file
2- if i need to copy custom_ruu.exe also inside the device where is located the .nbh file and then launch another copy of it from my pc.
I did it but the custom_ruu.exe tell me to upgrade the rom from 1.66 to 1.0...
a bit strange i think....or not?
thanks
to flash roms and splashscreens - put the nbh into a folder with customruu (customruu usually comes with the rom, if not use one from another download, all customruu.exe's are the same)
just those two files in folder, run customruu as administrator, done.

i was a little afraid when the app told me to 'update' the rom to 1.0 hehe.
ok then, it's flashed
well, it's also possible to modify the Windows on red background image in some way?
i just installed an .nbh image that allow me to modify the standard htc logo, then a .cab with a post simulation ( like a pc post; unfortunately if i do an hard reset i must reinstall it.... ), but i didn't found nothing for the Windows on the red background colour.
Thanks a lot again for your support
hehe, ignore what it says in the update version bit, its usually blank or wrong.
about the other two images, and re: ' have to reinstal it when hard reset', , , well yea, cos theyre adjustments to the loaded rom, the first part is unconnected, youd get that even if there were no rom, after task29 for instance.

ok then.
i'll bump this thread with the hope that someone can help us.
The last question is:
it's possible to change with a flashing ( maybe permanent modify then ) the Windows word on red background?
Thanks to you sam for your help, and to those that will answer to this last question
The windows splash screen is a file called welcomehead.png in the windows directory. Just replace this with an image of your choice and it'll be changed.
im pretty sure i can answer that question as no, you cant modify it so that it survives a hard reset without cooking, and then flashing the cooked results, you cant modify the rom. you would need to get the rom in a kitchen, repolace the images, cook the rom and flash it.
In reality, of course, all you need do is keep your replacement images on your sd card, then copy them back after the hard reset.,
in fact i tryed to delete the welcomhead.png, but nothing to do, even if i change the permission with total commander...
i think that there is no easy way to replace it ( aside to cook a ROM with a different image and then install the modified ROM ).
i think ill give up about this...ill keep the standard ( and not really good looking ) Windows word....
thanks to you all
rather than delete the original which you can't cos it's in the rom, just copy replacement over it, that should work.
