Hello, for some reason myTMobile MDA (HTC Wizard) is not booting up. It is hanging in the Windows Mobile screen. How do I hard reset? Is there any other way to give life to my WM5 PPC?
comm manager + vc button + soft reset - soft reset + 2 secs - comm manager - vc button + talk = hard reset
Sure, after I flashed my wizard to the Qtek 2.8.7.1 test ROM, it hangs on the windows mobile screen or only half of the today screen could be displayed sometimes, not always and not so frequently, seems have to bear it until the shipped version come.
Hard reset not working for me
The standard hard reset method of comm+record+reset doesn't work for me, and I'm also experiencing a crash during bootup (nothing works!). Is there any other way to perform a hard reset?
I have also noticed that mine hangs during boot.
However if i keep pressing the direction button (any direction) and just stop the backlight going off then it will boot up eventually.
My wizard often hangs during booting. It's very annoying. Does anyone know of a way to get it to reboot without removing the battery? When I remove the battery it forgets the date and time, and I often forget to reset them, so it's stuck in 2006 and nothing works.
I've found that it seems to boot better if you wait a while between turning it off and turning it on, especially cooling it off in between. (I am not overclocking it)

Just bought mij S100 and already a problem. My phone automatically shuts down the display, this is nothing strange. But when I want to turn it back on again using the on/off button, sometimes it does not react (sometimes it does). When this happens, i also cannot receive any calls. I tried to call myself with another phone and it did not ring. It looks like a crash to me. When I do a soft reset it works again.
I have the newest Qtek rom (1.12.00 WWE / 1.12.550 WWE) installed. Originally the phone came with T-mobile software.
I hope someone can help me with this problem.
If there is a problem with the power button, then you can go into Settings - Button Lock - do not lock buttons. This way you can turn on your device using any of the green or red buttons.
hi robbertje,
sometimes i have the same problem on my MDA compact (=imate S100).
on/off button does not respond - display dark.
soft reset resets the MDAc and everything is ok.
then a few days no problems. if this problem occours then more times.
I found out that if my MDAc is in this state and if I pull the SD Card out of the device, the screen is on but frozen. The time which is shown an the screen is not correct. Seems that it shows the time when the device went to the freeze status.
Also battery is very low after such problems.
I used to have it when I first upgraded to big storage. A hard reset seemed to fix the problem. What I found was that the screen would react, but it could be up to a minute after I hit the power button. Same thing when the screen was on, I'd hit Start and wait. After a while the start menu would pop up. This was before I even managed to install any other software so it's a windows bug that's fairly random. I haven't had it happen for a few months now, though.
I think PPCProfiles made the problem. I reinstalled PPCProfiles and it seems that the problem is solved but I will see ..................
Hey, I've already ur problem. It's an hardware problem!
The mess is that, when the PDA is cold (strange, huh?) it won't reactivate, causing to do a soft reset. Mystically, the LEDs are still functioning (I mean, if it's green, it will continue to blink BUT doesn't change for any reason)
The only way to fix it is to send it to the repairing center. Sorry for who is out of warranty.
Cheers,
MocciJ
new ROM?
In this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=25761 it is said a new ROM wil fix the problem ...
Is this possible?
check http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=27956&highlight= too - may not be relevant, but it shows that power button wierdness can actually be the result of a dodgy battery.
remove your battery, and wait 1 day,my problem solved this method...
Hi, I'v got O2 XDA Mini S and a "little" problem with it. I'v just installed Phone Profiles [Second Edition] 8.0 and it crashed my phone. After installation (on my memory card), I could not see it on my today screen...so I'v tried to configure it in today screen configuration - but I could not get there - the configuration we're not accessible (it crashed). So after that, soft reset. And the real problem began. After the boot screen and "windows mobile welcome screen" the mobile just freezes. Active sync on my PC connects to it just for a second, then disconnects. The Phone Profiles [Second Edition] 8.0 is installed on my memory card, so I'v removed the memory card - the same problem. It was annoying - so hard reset....does not help. I have Wisbar Advance 2 as well, which is starting first and I can see only the welcome screen of it (sometimes it loads and I can see the whole skin). Sometimes (after reboot) I can see the menu, today screen etc. but the phone freezes. I think that the Phone Profiles [Second Edition] 8.0 is freezing the phone after his process starts. Is there anything like "safe mode" start or something like that, which could help me to remove this soft ? Or any other way to normally start the phone ? Any ideas ? Many thanks for help.
It should start after hard reset - phone profiles, wisbar advance will not load after a proper hard reset - the phone will be back to factory condition.
Did you do proper hard reset? After that it sounds like phone profiles should be installed to device memory not storage card. Most today plugins only work properly on device memory.
I'v done the hard reset (I think it was done properly - comm manager and voice command button pressed in the same time and then reset button). But after I'v pressed these buttons, nothing specially happend....the phone was still off. So I'v turned it on....and there were no changes with the software - still the same. Maybe I'm doing the hard reset wrong ?

Yep sounds like hard reset is not done. Press these 2 buttons but keep them pressed and dont let go - then press reset with the tip of the stylus and then text should come on the screen with black background. Press green (call) button and hard reset will commence.
Or you can first turn device off - then press the 2 buttons and keep them held and press power on to reach the same screen.
Ok, I'v done it. Many, many thanks for help. The phone manual is wrong (!). . Anyway Phone Profiles [Second Edition] 8.0....WTF is that ? This program just crashed my phone and I need to reinstall all the soft. Wrrr. And I just wanted a profile manager . Thanks again for help !
Good, I am glad - try the one I use - its free http://www.winmobileapps.com/device/pocketpc/plt/plt_download.aspx
Nice one, got it. Thanks.
Hi,
I have a tmobile MDA (wizard). I attempted to install some software on it, but disconnected and rebooted before it was complete (it appeared to be just spinning).
Now after a soft reset, screen shows only 'Windows Mobile' after booting, and none of the buttons work and I can't advance from this screen.
Is there a way to hard reset that doesn't involve using the OS (ie, I can't click on anything because it's not getting to that point).
Also in this state activesync isn't detecting device.
Thanks in advance! - Chris
Hold down (and keep holding) the camera button while depressing the reset button. Hopefully it boots into a tri-color screen. If so, plug it into the USB port and, at the bottom of the screen, it should display "USB". If that happens, flash it with a *known good rom*, such as a stock T-Mobile rom. Don't try to be clever, the object is to get the phone working. Once the flash has started, *get up and walk away* for 15 or 20 minutes. Don't check in on it, leave it alone, It takes some time. When you hear it's little chime, it's done, rebooted and ready. If any of the above doesn't happen or the flash outright fails, then you may have trashed it permanently. It doesn't sound like it's beyond hope yet, however.
i have the wizard and im having the same problem after installing a ROM from this website...it just goes to the windows mobile screen with the numbers then shuts off...id really like to save my phone is there anything else i can try because that hard reset thing isnt working

Well same thing happened to me a few days back.. I had to Cold Reset [which restored it to factory defaults], but hey I got it working again..
Press Communication Button [Top Left] and Record Button [Top Right] at the same time and use the stylus to soft reset..
You will get a black screen, asking you to press "Send" to reset to "Factory defaults"
Press "Send".
Hopefully you should get your MDA working again ...
I read the "Above" in the HTC Wizard Service Manual [PDF] on the *last page* under the "Cold-reset" Section..
Help!! - I somehow registered Omapclock at 300mhz and now my MDA simply reboots all the time. A few times I was able to randomly pound the keys to get to the today screen, but then the device would turn off and reboot. I usually get to a few seconds of the Windows Mobile screen before it starts all over again.
I thought I could try to just reload the stock T-Mobile rom, but Active Sync will not recognize the machine in time before it reboots. Is there a way to reload the stock T-Mobile rom from the Mini SD slot. Do you think it is rebooting so quick because the MDA is heating up so much quicker because of the higher mhz speed now?
Is Omapclock even causing this or is it possibly something else (I did nothing else except the omapclock mhz screwup).
All I want to be able to do is either get to the Omap unregister screen or reload the stock rom. TIA
Two options to try...
1) Hard Reset
2) Put the phone in bootloader mode (Turn it off, hold down the camera key and then turn it on) and flash a new rom (active sync won't connect but you can still flash a rom)
I knew about the hard reset via software, just discovered the 2 button / soft button reset. Kind of hard to do with my uncoordinated fat fingers, but finally got it a hard reset and clean slower rom. No more 300 mhz for me!!! Thanks for the quick reply!!
Be glad that you were able to perform the hard reset. A few Wizards have known to become bricks due to extreme overclocking.
I'm happy that your's wasn't, at any rate.
hi
I like to know how to "hard reset via software" .
and hardware
can you please tell me?
hi,
i recently wanted to simply restart my qtek s200 (g3), it stops at the blue windows mobile boot screen and just hangs and does nothing (i've waited for hours).
I am not using any mods, simply the original rom/software. The only thing extra installed is 3rd party software and the home screen from the new htc touch (i've have been using it for some time now, and yes, i have been able to reboot several times during that period).
I have no idea why it isn't working anymore since I have been using it in an ordinary fashion and have not installed any software lately...
What I have tried so far:
- soft reset
- removing battery, sd card, sim card
- hard reset is impossible due to the fact that my comm button no longer functions.
Any ideas how I can get this phone to boot in windows again?
If there is no "normal" way, then a hard reset would also work for me as the phone contains no important data.
Let me know if you need more info.
Thanks!

Since no hard reset is available... try removing the battery for the whole night.
If you do manage to get to windows then watch out for the startup folder, you're probably overloading the memory at startup.(htc home and psxut eat a lot at startup and windows as well)
i have removed the battery, sim and sd, and just left it there the whole night, but it still won't go further than the windows boot screen...
any suggestions ?
is is possible to do a hard reset by connecting it to usb and enter the bootloader somehow ? if yes, how ?
thanks!
hi,
have you tryed entering bootloader by the normal process?
"Hold down the camera button and reset the device. (Boot Loader Mode is: Press Camera + Soft Reset, then release soft reset and keep pressing camera button till appear the Boot Loader.)"
regards
yes, I can get into the bootloader, I can then also connect with USB with a notification at the bottom of the screen saying it's connected. However, I have no idea what to do afterwards ...

Okay then there is still hope.. When you have connected the device run an opdate tool like the NVID WM5 Rom.. that should work as a hard reset..
are there any working links available for this ? rapidshare seems to have disabled this...
thanks!

As long as you are able to enter bootloader then you can flash it with any old prophet rom. I had the same issue after installing WM6 rom. I used a Spanish rom on wiki to bring it back and then installed WM6 VII touch. So far it has worked well for a week.
HTC 6tab Home screen killed my 818pro!!!!!!
Here is what happened a few days back. My 818pro (aka prophet) suddenly heat up while not in use 3 days ago. I thought it was caused by the hot weather in my country (I was driving with aircond in full blast). The heating up eventually go away. Then 2 day later, after I put down a call, my phone just frozen / hung. Hence, I do a soft reset & guess what It never recovered & stop at the black screen with the dopod logo while restarting. Some service centre I visited told me that the main memory chip need replacement & reflash!!! I can't even see the window screen. I have use the HTC 6tab for 2 months & I am very sure it's the culprit here. Hopefully you are not having the same problem like me
Try plug in the ac charger before u do soft reset. My phone need it in order to restart after soft reset (after I started using the HTC 6tab Home Screen).
That is before my phone die yesterday
