Hi,
I'm a new user to PDA's, I've never used them before and only just realising I need one to help schedule my busy days.
I have recently purchased the Magician, using it for about one and a half week I find it isnt what I expect it to be.
I am implementing at the moment between keeping a seperate PDA and a mobile phone, or to keep the Magician which has both features.
The other PDA I own is a HP HX2190, which has a bigger screen, but of course the device is much larger.
After using the Magician for just about 2 weeks I find it very troublesome and hard to use, also with some problems I've encounted and unsure of;
1)I find it annoying that I have to turn the magician on and off all the time to check for missed calls, something I've realised is that when there is an alert of something like a miss call the light on top flashes orange, but it is pretty stupid waiting every 5 seconds to see it flash the colour.
Having to turn the screen on and off all the time is rather annoying.
2)One big problem I've gotten the past few days is the alignment of the screen. For some odd reason the alignment will go crazy.
I'd click on the (X) button to close the program located on the top right corner and the volume menu would pop up. It's like it has shifted elsewhere.
I dont know what is wrong, I'd click on one thing but it would click on the other item about 2cm away. The pin point is not accurate!
I hope you guys understand what I'm talking about, cant really explain this problem.
But what's the deal and how can this be fixed?
This is the biggest problem I've been getting.
3)When a missed call is received, the screen would still be on after the call has stopped, and you're not using it at all.
If I was to put it in my pocket, and a call was not heard and missed, the screen will still be left on, there will be a chance any key will be pressed accidently while in my pocket.
Or even make a call without me knowing.
These are all I can come up with at the moment.
I'll post more when I do figure any more problems.
There are probably firmwares to download, anyone know where I can get them?
Are there any problems that are encountered with the magician?
Please list some problems that effect the use in the long term.
I'm still deciding whether to keep my single XDA, or to keep a mobile and a seperate PDA.
Any suggestions would really help.
Cheers
What about to read an instruction manual?
1. In the common phone you must turn on a display to see missed calls too.
2. The Alighment of scrren you must properly calibrate in settings menu.
3. You must check the settings menu to adjust when screen must be off if no using.
Simply investigate owner's manual and device settings! If you can't, heh, just get rid of this device.
I know about the setting of allignment, but it would work perfectly fine at one stage, precise pin point then out of the blue the screen would play up on me.
that's strange... If you already own a pda, you must know that it's a hardware problem. And it is not bacause Magician is communicator, not ppc
Just obtain a working one and enjoy. If device hardware is fine, it works good. But there always will be liitle probs, u know And this is about all devices - phones, ppcs, comms etc.
I have drew up a diagram to further explain what I'm talking about.
The red dots is the point where I press with my stylus, the blue points is where the XDA detects my point.
I've added some icons to show the trouble I'm dealing with.
I'd click on the close button to close the program on the top right corner (red dot) but it would jump to the right (about 2cm away) and open the clock menu.
So I cannot close the programs.
I click on the toolar 'just' outside the start menu button on the top right corner, I do not click in the box and it will still open the menu.
The 3 shortcut menus on the bottom are Battery Icon to show the battery life, Memory usage, and file explore.
I want to check my memory usage (red point bottom middle of the screen) and the battery icon (blue dot) would be clicked and open up rather than the memory usage I intended to click.
I then will try to close it, being imposibble because when I try to press the (x) button it would just open up the clock menu, or clock status showing date and time, sometimes it would be shifter further, so when I try to click the (x) it would open the volume menu.
I turn it off and wait for a while, it would eventually come back to normal.
A few hours later I'd want to find my mp3's, so I click on the shortcut 'file explorer' to find the files (red dot).
As I click on the red dot, same as others, the screen would detect the point on the screen about 2cm away.
Opens the memory usage menu rather than the file explorer.
This is what I've been dealing with.
At times it would be perfectly fine, then it would play up as above.

I know noobs always get flamed around forums, but I certainly know to read the manual.
Hope you guys can help.
Try to hard reset your device and do a screen alignment procedure properly. If problem remains - this is hardware problem! Maybe, the reason is extrem temperature or water, that damaged screen... The only way in this case is to bring device to service center to fix.
That may be the problem, I place my O2 in my pocket/jeans with the screen facing my leg.
If I face it the other way something can damage the screen with pressure.
Phone has not been in pocket for the past day due to a weekend, so it seems as though it is working ok.
If I am not able to place the o2 in my pocket, I dont think there is anywhere else that I can convenient place it in.
I dont like the idea of the clip wallet given.
I have my S100 now for over a year and have been using only the supplied case and never had a problem. I never like the idea of putting any phone for that matter in my pants pockets especially when wearing tight jeans.
This problem is starting to bug me out, can anyone find the reason why it's doing this?
Try draining out main your battery. Then remove the battery until the backup battery is also drained out. Then insert your main battery and charge. Do not use the magician until the main and backup battery are fully charged (green led on).
Be sure to make a backup first.
Does it actually say not to place O2 XDA's in pockets?
It is a phone, and I'd put the phone in my pocket to feel the vibration of calls when on silent.

Quite right, that's my concern also. But I have been carrying my first generation XDA (Wallaby) and now my Magician just like that all the time and never had a problem. But actually, when sitting down (and therefore putting pressure on the device because the jeans tightens) I take it out and it on a table or a car holder.
Never had a problem that was anyhow related to how I carried the device with me.
I rarely put my wallet in my back pocket because ATM and credit cards get bend, what more a Magician! I have a friend whose P910 got damaged for the same reason.

A few people here have reported the same problem, and it always was a hardware fault. So I am afraid the only solution is to exchange your device - and you really should do it, as this behaviour is not normal at all.
As for the problem of the device doing strange things in your pocket (no, not that...), you should
a) set the time-out after which the screen turns off automatically to a minimum, or
b) get ScreenGuard.
I use ScreenGuard very successfully.
Cheers
Daniel
Interesting to se this thread, i sometimes also have problems with alignment.
however, my problem can be that the device will be in portrait mode (left handed), whilst the stylus is working on right handed mode (if that makes sense), so everything is flipped around (ie I click on bluetooth and the start menu pops up).
Any ideas? This is an intermittent fault it seems

The orange blinking occurs more often when you have a missed call or message. Also, you have to press a button on a normal phone to check for missed calls and messages.

There's a registry tweak that will turn the phone off quicker if the device was woken up but nothing was pressed. You can have a different timeout for this (e.g. 10 seconds). This would also help with you turning the phone on/off to check for messages, as you could just turn it on and if no messages it'll go off on its own in a few seconds anyway.

Let me start off, I've got to say that the Touch HD is an awesome bit of kit. There's just 1 thing I don't like about it and that's the way the stylus is held in. I don't think it's held securely enough, a couple of times I have pulled the phone out of the pouch and the stylus has also managed to come out.
there is nothing that i don't like about the blackstone.....
only one thing the processor could be 5000 GHZ .......
Its not something i hate.. but its the only downside i find compared to the iPhone.. multitouch.. but then again... i knew it didnt have one.. and MY GOD this kicks iphones ass!
cheers!

Direct to something is better than fiddling and wasting time!
The phone is the greatest, my only complaint is that it was a shock coming from the diamond as the screen on the diamond is excellent, the colors are really rich and the blacks are black where as the HD is a beautiful screen but a wee bit washed out.
After using the HD for a week now I am really happy with everything, even the screen as long as I don't look at the Diamond.
Things You Don't Like About The Touch HD

Volume bottoms is to sensitive
Back panel squirks
But i still love the phone

That HTC spent a little more time, to iron out small issue's - instead of leaving it to dedicated peeps on the forum, like this....

foolproof????
thats a kinda objective question
There hasn't been a phone made that is perfect for everybody.
Things I don't like about the touch HD
Video recording, only QVGA
Back cover, should be smooth without that metal thing
The reset button inside the cover, should be outside
The headphones that came with it are useless, to big to fit my ears
When recording calls our voice gets recorded very loud and the other person voice very quiet
Wifi is very bad, receives low signal and disconnects easily
No good video player with full hardware acceleration
The other things are great
mmm!
some are very close....
recording calls...
there has been quite alot of talk re the recording of calls....
does anyone have any really good positive recommendations????

Yes I did that but it doesn't work fine like my ETEN M700 did, I was using one FONERA www.fon.com with one 10db omni directional antenna as my home hotspot, it sends 2 SSIDs, the HD doesn't like it and disconnects, so I'm now using the wireless of other of my routers, it's one linksys WRT54GL, it doesn't have the same high range but it works.
What I don't like are:
Stylus comes out when removing from pouch.
Key buttons too small on keyboards resulting in constant incorrect key presses.
Takes too long to go back to previous screen after adjusting volume keys.
When using alphabet scroller on right edge on Contacts screen and you scroll to say 'S', the first contact beginning with S appears at the bottom of the screen instead of at the top of the screen.
Slow redraw rate of icons everytime you go to builtin programs list.
Today i noticed a wierd ticking noise when shaking my phone . It's not that loud , it's around the phone-speaker and i suspect some kind of spring from the slide , because when i hold the phone firmly in the speaker area the noise dissapears , also when sliding the screen(during the slide. when completly opened it reappears) the noise deissapear , and when i push a bit the screen in the direction that it is (forcing it to stay closed or open).
Does anyone else has this problem ? Because i don't thing that warranty will consider this as a problem , and change my phone.
The phone is not having any hardware problems , but the ticking noise just annoys me .
I believe this is just the slide mechanism.
What are you doing shaking your phone anyway?
Hmm I think I found this problem discussed b4.
The sound came from some part under the optical pad, and as I know, every X1 is.
a normal sound coming from the sliding mechanism.

Yes we all hear it, it is normal, not something broken or loose.
thanks for sharing , i also suspected the slide mecanism , but i didn't know it this sound is normal . now i feel better knowing that there is nothing wrong with my phone , but is still pretty iritating , hearing it sometimes when using the phone (voice call)
LOL=) It's the pen!
If the sound originates from the top of the phone, most definitely it's the camera; more specifically the auto focus mechanism. From what I read here on XDA, it would seem that it's not a Q.C. problem and it's normal for it to "rattle", "click", "tick" or whatever else you can make sense of it.
I've had a few devices from just about every manufacturer, and I've noticed the sound you're describing in about 30% of my devices. Some manufacturers are worse than others - like Motorola - but I've never seen a link between the "rattle" and phone malfunction. In my opinion, it's perfectly normal - best not to think about it

what i was hearing was the sliding mechanism, if you hold the 2 parts (bottom and top) and press them (the gap between them will become almost zero) the sound will disappear

i don't think so, the pen is in a fixed location, and it exactly fits there so i don't think it can move in the compartment.
Hi,
I also have this ticking noise, and has some one posted before, I found out it comes from small wheels between the screen and keyboard of the sliding mechanism.
I post here some pics that show them:

The two wheels in each side on back of the screen.
One wheel in more detail:
These wheels I believe they should run on the sides of the keyboard as I show on next picture.
I think the problem is that this wheels are loose and flying in spite of running on top of the keyboard. I also note that my screen is not totally stable, specially when open, and is a bit loose in relation to the X1 body.
I believe that this wheels should be there for stabilizing the screen and to give a smoother sliding effect, which I find not very the case of my X1.
I also think it's not normal to put wheels that are never grounded (as far as I can see on my X1) and only are there for making noise.
An easy way to check and patch the problem is to put two or three slices of paper stacked over the sides of the keyboard (on the red lines of last picture). In this way you fill the gap between the wheels and the keyboard body and the noise will stop. Besides the slide is smoother and screen is more stable.
I think this is a major fabrication issue, because apparently, at least I couldn't find anyone that doesn't have this problem.
Anyone doesn't have this issue on X1?
I believe that som X1's have the wheelrattle, but not all that rattle are because of the wheels.
There's an example on how my phone sounds after the second repair of the batterycompartment crack.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=482022
Guys!
Its just the sound of the sort-of-free volume/camera buttons
If you just touch both during shacking, you will make sure that there is no tick sound
I guess
nu it's the wheels guiding the screen. if you press the screen up and down , you will see that the noise dissapears. it's as clear as possible explained in the pictures above

My noise does not dissappear when putting pressure on the wheels..
Listen to my X1 rattle here and see if you have the same rattle.
Thing's you will need;
drill and drill bit
4 pieces of electrical wire
"super bright" "super thin" LED (ebay £1-£5)
Small amount of sticky back plastic
Small amount of Electrical tape
Pliers
How to;
Firstly remove your back cover off the x8.
measure up the LED. and get a drill bit to match the size,
Drill approximatly 5-15mm under the camera lense hole and secure LED here. (it doesn't have to be here it could be at the other side of the Xperia badge but just dont put it too close to camera lense as it will light up your pictures too much)
take X2 piece's of wire connect them to LED and flow them across the inside of your phone to the connection pads where the camera button is operated.
Secure wireing with sticky back plastic and use electrical tape to cover any "open" wireing.
take another X2 pieces and connect to battery and the physical camera button
Now when the Camera button is pressed down the 4 pieces of wire will meet and thus making the "superbright LED" light up your scenery perfectly.
This is just a how to. a make shift light for our X8. in theory it work's
if you try this comment and let me know how your's has come along
Thank's and i hope i get some of you modding hardware not only the soft part
I'm sure this will work, but i don't have required materials.
Brilliant Idea!
Will purchase the materials and post pictures and a tutorial step by step =]

I remember those. I only came up with the idea to put our own lighting into the phone's as i know there is no such item's available. and without it being built in i missed the quality of pic's in the dark so thought about making my own LED flash for the x8's camera, whilst this thought came to mind i thought i would give it to all who may be interested !

False.. This is complete BS, why are you giving false information? Lol.. You must tell me where you buy that weed dude xD
The x8 camera connects tru a socket, the x10 connects tru a flex cable.. Also, the x10 is way bigger due the autofocus mechanism.
But please, post your source
Edit: OP, depending on the led you buy, you might also need a resistor.. Anyway, i think it's better to carry a mini torch light than to cut holes in the phone but thats just me.. If i want to take a good photo i use a proper camera. Also, you need basic soldering skills to "connect" the wire to the button. And not wanting to kill your dream please remind that the button serves to close a circuit that gives a signal to the OS that it was pressed and you don't even know the voltage it passes tru there. By connecting it to the battery you will be exposing the circuit to 3.7 volts.. Not a very nice idea but HEYYY i don't want to judge any one, please go ahead and post feedback

i read it back to myself and thought i just said what they said but in layman's terms.
also i think you got the wrong end of the stick as i wouldn't put the wire "IN" the button's. just under the case where the camera button is "chrome button on side of phone" i would simply "fix 2 wires here" and on the side where the "chrome button" connects to the plastic that is onto of the "clickie" i would place 2 wires here. thus making a connection without touching any metal part of the phone itself

You mentioned the connection pads in the first post so i immediately thought that you would use the clickie button itself, my apologies here.
Although this seems to work in theory, it wouldn't actually because when the cover is in place, the chromed plastic button that pushes the real one is already touching it, you can confirm this by pushing it softly and see that there is no travel space between them at all, it's always touching it, just not pressing this doesn't let you have space to put the wires to begin with

Yes a separate button just for the flash do as i described but instead of under the camera button make your own flash button just above or below the camera button. this also double's your phone up as a torch aswell. GREAT
sorry but getting desperate for answer's in making this one work. lol
I repeat it's just a theory . i concede that it's a flawed theory
Lol.. well yes, that would work if you really managed to get all the wiring and the LED inside the casing. But lets be real, a LED doesn't really give much light to make a difference at all.
I just used a torch light just like this one: http://www.acsmarketing.biz/pic/hardwarebig/FR-7304 9 led torchlight big.jpg
It has 9, super bright.. and the pic still sucks, in fact they are almost identical .
The problem is that they give you a constant amount of light, and flash LEDs give you one or two bursts of much more intense light. It has to be in bursts because it makes them very hot, just like any camera flash..
Simple LEDs do help with close up pics, like scanning a bar-code on a paper for instance, BUT since our camera doesn't even have auto-focus, close up pictures are always blurry no matter the light
So I recently acquired an hd2 I worked on for someone some time ago to put android on. They tell me that after they took a shower the screen stopped responding to touch.
Looking at it closely, it indeed does not respond to touch, but the screen also randomly will come on.
This leads me to believe that the hardware buttons are stuck and thus will not let the screen be touched. Either the volume buttons or the front ones.
What is your opinion on this?
Which is more likely that needs replacing?
could be front buttons sticking as had this on one of our HD2s
Normally it is related to digitizer ribbon (complete digitizer being the fix) & its proximity to buttons is why button pressing affects it.
Do some searches on keywords for this issue as a lot has been covered on this over the last 1yr+
I've done some research already as for the buttons sticking, but in all the post I read these people still had use of their screens. While in this case the screen isnt usable.
It's well within my ability to replace the digitizer, despite needing to solder. So it's not a huge issue if I need to replace that.
But I would rather it be the front buttons aha.
Is there any way to test to see if it's the buttons?
*and on a side note, while taking it apart somehow one of the buttons on the volume rocker came off. I'm pretty sure I just need to stick it back on tho, since it doesn't seem to have any real physical connection aside from when it pressed down.
I done the button board as button cap was sticking & easily diagnosed.
Digitizer is most likely culprit ...
In regards to Volume, if you are referring to the very small caps that are on the button board then yes you need to stick it back but alignment is critical or volume key will not push it well or feel weak.
Button boards are rubbish design concept on HD2, compare it to a Desire G5 or 9yr old Magician & I have no idea how they ended up going down the route they did ...
Thanks for the awesome advice. Very helpful.
What do you think could be causing the screen to randomly turn on then?
Mmm is the screen dead to touch after turning on via end key.
Can you turn on via other key & digitizer responds ?
Does any of the button board keys (especially end) feel very weak to press or like the cap is stuck down or not lifting as well as should.
Same principal is used on button board as volume key with small concave caps & they can cause issues, certainly worth investigating & checking out button board before committing any purchases.
Also take your time and make every effort to assemble well & with care as minor glitch results in useless junk & wasted money ...
The digitizer doesnt work right after it's turned on by using the end button. It's completely unresponsive.
The only button that seem to be a tad loose is the windows button.
The digitizer also did stop working after the previous owner had it playing music in the bathroom. I'm thinking the moisture from the steam caused this.
So after much fiddling and lurking around the internet I found this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1213809
which didn't seem to have much info. Just said to press VERY hard on the power button. I did it for "why the hell not" sake, and it worked!! Though intermittently.
I'm quite sure this proves the hardware buttons are going bad, so I will be purchasing a new button strip to put in.
Now I have to figure out how to reflash winmo 6.5 so that I can use a sim-unlock code.

Well, I think is quite the opposite: your touchscreen is the problem, not the buttons strip!!
Why is that?
the main flex for digitizer runs above & wraps into the panel just above power button.
pressure & movement transfers to this cable improving or worsening the contact of the flex & thus its status of function.
Your problem is more likely digi flex but button board is always wroth checking as have fixed digi issue via button flex once before.
Check everything & assume nothing but be advised digi flex is odds-on favourite.
Your sim unlock code may accept fine while on android, many Android & W7 ROMs allow unlock via code without issue.
Wouldn't I be able to just make the connection better then? or is this just damage to the actual flex cable?
Either damage to flex in bend around lcd or actually with flex feed join to digi.
Not really serviceable, replacement digi come with flex & flex alone is not replaceable.
Alright. I'll trust an experienced user on the hd2 over my guesses aha. I'll be ordering the new digitizer and let you all know how it goes once its done.
Thanks all!
So I ended up replacing the digitizer to fix the problem. I have to say I'm quite happy with the result.

I think the rom causes the wifi radio to work realllyyyy horribly.
Not bad, what you done to get the grey silver look on digi edge ?
Wifi (if weak signal) could antenna/coax poor connector under rear cover but worth trying another rom or kernel before getting the t5 out

Anyone else having issues with proximity sensor not turning screen off?

Are you using a screen protector/case?
Solved here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2001861
Basically, if you've got a screen protector covering the proximity sensor (top left) you could have problems.
Explain more please..
I think this is a problem not related to the Nexus 4 but related to Android 4.2
My problem is. During voice calls the screen goes off. During Skype calls the screen is always on. Do you think you had something like this?
The issue is, I used to have my screen protector all the time and it didn't cause a problem. I can't remove it now because I am at a bit of a rough environment now and I need to know if this is something related to Skype or related to the new 4.2 Android..
Update: Skype got updated and with this update the proximity issue was fixed. I read about this and someone told that something that is related to proximity sensor detection during calls got its name changed. After the last Skype update everything is going just fine. Too bad I am selling my Galaxy Nexus as I've already got my Nexus 4

I am having the same problem. Does not seem to ever turn off. No screen protector or case. Just normal incoming and outgoing phone calls.
I got the 4.2.1 update yesterday and am not having the problem anymore. I don't know if that was supposed to fix it or if it was coincidence

Same here (Version 3.0.0.6181), screen wont go off during calls, I reported it here: http://community.skype.com/t5/Android/Screen-is-always-on-when-during-voice-calls/m-p/1320173#M21997
same problem, unique solution
So I also dropped mine a few weeks ago and had to replace the screen. Upon replacing the old components into the new screen and frame, I *thought* I had been careless and mangled my audio jack ribbon, so I ordered a new one off Ebay. When IT didn't work, I knew something had to be up, so I started testing vs options in this thread and others. I hung the sensor loose and verified that it did indeed work unplugging and replugging it in and using "Proximity Sensor" (Google Play app) .. finally found a position it worked best in, also took the T5 screwdriver, ran it through the holes (ran it through is an incorrect term, I simply removed the purple haze I could see looking through it towards a light) .. even with this modification, something was pushing it out of the way and actually disconnecting it when I put the plastic cover back on (which I fortunately tested before completely reassembling the phone!! ) ..my overall solution was to cut the corner piece off the back plastic cover, making sure not to lose the metal piece, and it's working fine. I tested about 10 times as I'm reassembling and putting the phone all back together, and it now works properly.
So you might try carefully cutting a plastic corner off if software fixes are not working for you.
Where did you cut? Do you have a picture? I just replace my front glass and my proximity sensor is bugged... It thinks I'm close to it all the time.. Out of the casing it works fine but the second I install it, it stops working.
Did you leave the small rubber part in there?
I had exact same prob.
Dropped, replaced digitizer, agonized over prox sensor, bought new one, scrapped off purple tint.
Can you post pics of the plastic you relieved plz??
So many weird issues with my N4 compared to all of my other N phones that I'm seriously considering getting a Moto X.

this is how you fix it. dumbies
There is an incredibly easy fix for this!! Everyone on every site is either saying its unfixable or you have to like mess with the hardware. Completely unnecessary. This is how I fixed it.
1. Download ScreenOff Lite in Google play store.
2. Open app, go into settings, then all settings
3. Make sure only these options have a check next to it:
-disable in landscape mode
-enable during call only
-Locks phone on screen on
4. Go back to the apps main menu and press "Start Service"
Wallahh!! You are done! Your phone's messed up proximity sensor will not turn off now during calls.

Your approach was quite similar to mine so I figured I'd post some images to help others who are attempting the same fix. My light sensor wasn't working either so this process also fixed that.
Location of tint to scratch off:

I used a small safety pin and held up the LCD/digitizer/frame to a light source so that I could see what I was doing a little better.
Location of the plastic tabs to cut off the mid frame:
On mine, when the sensor was pressed in too far into the recess I'd get zero light reading and the proximity sensor would activate; indicating that something was in the way. The rectangular plastic part on the mid frame pushes down on the flex ribbon that the proximity sensor is attached to. I also needed to remove one of the strips which sits alongside the headphone jack as it was also pushing down on the sensor too much. Using a sharp craft knife I cut off the plastic flush with the screw holes .That was what my particular sensor needed so that it worked after everything was screwed and clipped back together but YMMV so I'd suggest experimenting with what works best for you.
The flex cable sits pretty snugly in the recess without much support so I think it'd take a decent drop for it to move again. Tested plugging and unplugging my headphones a few times and everything still works so I'm crossing my fingers that everything will be fine from this point forward.
other option
All of these fixes are good options but there are many factors that could contribute to a faulty proximity sensor. Recently a friend of mine replaced his screen and afterwords his proximity sensor would always register as having something near it. He tried many software fixes but in the end he opened his phone back up to find a bunch of dust collected on the sensor. The fix was as simple as gently blowing off the sensor and putting everything back together.
I hope this helps

BEWARE this suggestion. With nothing more than the install I was not even able to turn on the screen with the power button (Nexus 4). Had to wait for the battery to drain and factory reset from recovery screen...
Hi, i allso have a strange problem with the proximity sensor.
During a call the screen turns off but if i touch the screen it's actually active so many times i found many things messed up, the status bar dragged and so on...
I haev to mention that the screen + frame was changed. If anyone else faced this problem or know a way to slove it..
proximity sensor
just replaced mine today. Screen digitizer/frame had the same problem. Most people that replace their screen will have this problem, First off install a proximity sensor app from the play store and check if the sensor is working or not. There is many reasons this sensor is a pain and many ways to fix it. Google is your friend, in my case it was as simple as reversing the rubber with the 2 small holes that is attached to the ear phone jack (also part of the proximity sensor) one hole is smaller then the other but it wont matter. I look at it like flipping a tap washer and you get a bran new seal worked for me. Try the easy fix first then work your way up if need be.
can confirm this works as i just repaired a second n4 with the same problem and the sensor works great
P.Tough
Fixed FINALLY!
Similar story here. I dropped my phone after having it less than a month. Broke the screen. I ordered a new screen assembly from LG ($140!) and fixed it myself. Only later did I discover that my proximity sensor no longer worked. I did not want to take it apart again. So I suffered with no proximity sensor for six months. I set the phone to hang up calls using the power button. And I plugged in a headset when I listened to voicemail. For some reason, the screen stayed on when a headset was plugged in.
Anyway, today after reading other stories similar to mine, I was emboldened to take the phone apart once more and try to fix this thing. I thought it was out of alignment or something. What I discovered instead was that it seemed to work perfectly when the phone was taken apart. It was only after final assembly that it failed. I took a closer look at my old screen assembly (yes, I had saved it all this time) and discovered a tiny missing part. It's a little rubber rectangular holder for the proximity sensor. It looks like this:
Those of you that still have your old screen, look for this part and install it in the new screen. It's easily missed. It fixed it once and for all for me.
