Uninstalling Spb GPRS Monitor - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi, I read in several posts that the spb gprs monitor causes some problems with the MDA Vario (like resetting with backlight off), and as this was happening to me I decided to uninstall it, but somehow it's still there. When I uninstalled it said not fully uninstalled, or something like that. Now it's gone from the bottom of the today screen, but the mini icons on the top are still there, and it's still in start/programs. However it's no longer listed in remove programs, so not sure how to get rid of it! Any ideas?
On a different note, are there any good ringer profile programs that can easily be set from the today screen? Sick of having to go into the menu to change from ring once to ringing etc.
Thanks.

Download and install the last GPRS Monitor version (2.4.1 trial) from SPB homepage
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/gprsmonitor/download.html?en
Then uninstall the GPRS Monitor and say bye bye
(works for me)

Hi, I did some more searching in the meantime and found an old post by Tekflow:
------------
First remove it from the Today items
Then go to \Windows\Startup and delete the file called GPRS Notify
Finally soft reset
------------
Backed up the file and gave it a shot, now the little icons on the top are gone (and the backlight was on after I soft reset!) but it's still inprograms (and opens if I click it). Going to see if this has solved the reset/no backlight problem, otherwise I'll give your method a try...

I use a program called IP Dashboard 1.9, works flawlessly for me. Plus, it adds a "network" icon (2 computers connected to each other) and each computer will lights up if there is a TX or RX of network connectivity, be it WiFi, GPRS, or EDGE. Very useful for me to know if I have connection or not.

Tasks missing from Today screen

I have an xda II and have noticed that the tasks section of the Today screen is missing. I have checked all the Today screen settings and it doesn't appear there. Where has it gone :?:
puzzled, coj
p.s. In addition to the normal apps I am running codecity citytime, ms theme switcher and omega one battery bar and program bar on the today screen
Too many Today Apps
It's possible that you're running too many today plugins - there's a limit of something like 12 - if you install anything more than that the system bumps one off the list. You need to uninstall one that you don't use and the Tasks item will pop back onto the list after a soft reset.
I had a similar problem when I installed alarmToday - had to get rid of my Calendar+ item and use the system Calendar one instead.
Hope this helps.
Steve.
(ps. Most Today items require a 'twice' uninstall - one to get them off the Today list, then a soft reset and another uninstall to remove them completely)
Muchas Gracias
Excellent, thank you for that pearl of wisdom, worked perfectly.
Slightly different issue: Task Icon Missing from Program Bar
In the first few days with my XDA-II, I loaded many apppications to test - including several launchers before settling on Battery Pack 2004/Program Bar
In spite of dozens of soft resets, and more than one hard reset, at some point the list of applications that could be launched by Program Bar suddenly lost the "tasks" option & tick icon and I cannot get it back.
I think it went while trying one of the other launcher applications, because I'm sure it used to be there, and it shows up on most vendors screen shots of their products, but I cannot understand why it hasn't returned even after the hard resets.
It's not a major problem, as I have the tasks item on the Today screen anyway, and I can treat Tasks as a user-defined item in Program Bar by giving the file link (although it doesn't pick up the "tick" icon) - but it just irritates me that it seems to have vanished!
Any ideas on how to get it back.
Thanks

Missing BT icon

Hi, guys.
All of a sudden, BT icon (the one that's located in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen) just dissapeard :x I didn't install any new software, didn't perform a reset, or something like that, it just dissapeard for no obvious reason. Any ideas how I could get it back on the screen?
TIA,
Zeljac
it once did that to me a softreset got it back though
That was the first thing I tried but the situation is still the same
what if you go into settings->connections and choose bluetooth and change it from what ever it's set to and press ok
and maybe change it back again
If you have the last version of BTTools you can push in the new BT icon and, inmediately, make soft reset.
Of this form I have the old BT icon again.
Thanks a lot, mate. I did exactly what you told me, and the icon came back...
Tnx,
Zeljac
Ooops, here comes the problem again After gettin my BT icon back, I removed BTtools, and the icon dissapeard again. I tried the same trick again but with no results. So my question is open for your answers once again
I have the same problem, it was a day or two after I installed and removed GB-Soft Tweak, it went missing ... reinstalled the Tweak, after a few soft-reset, it's gone again until now. Do you have this Tweak installed?
Have you already tried to change \HKLM\Services\BTIcon\Keep or any of the other settings under this key?
Hope that helps
Matthias
Hmm, a very strange thing happend. I synced it another computer (the one that I sync to maybe once or twice a week) and after that the icon just came back. So far, it's still there. Hopefully, it will stay that way
Anyway, tnx for all your replies...
Btw, I don't have GB-Soft tweak installed, and I was just about to start playing with the registry when the icon just appeared again.
Greetings,
Zeljac
the value for that registry key (keep) was set to 1. so, I set it to 0, soft reset, still no sign of BT icon.
then i set it back to 1, soft reset ... BT icon came back on!
however, in the next reset ... it's gone. something is messing with it in the background.
I also need my BT icon back.. I-Mate ROM 1.72 Any help, please?
I had the same problem. Days ago I installed skin for the keyboard and mysteriously icon BT returned.
http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=424
I think there may be a link between the missing BT icon and the number of Today plugins installed or events being processed at startup. I think it is an Operating System issue.
For example.
If I soft reset my unit I can get the BT icon to vanish.
If I then deselect any today plug in and soft reset again the BT icon re appears. However if I do not deselect a today plug in and soft reset the BT icon does not reappear.
So perhaps it is related to a timing of events on load when starting?
Ed
This could be a good clue. The timing on startup sounds like a good theory to the problem.
If you look in the registry under [HKLM/Services/BTIcon] there are some interesting keys named: Index, Keep, Order and Context.
Anyone know how these are used???
(The keys "Order" and "Index" seems most interesting)

Similar to what I have said but that thread says to uncheck every today plug in. I have found you don't need to do that. For me just unckecking a single plug is in enough.
I'm pretty sure it is a loading issue.

Forgotten Icon to change mode to Landscape

In my Qtek 2020i.
After the installation of some software. The Icon In the Bar of Today Screen for changing the mode from Portrait to Landscape are disapeared.
Some Knows how I can recovery It.
Thanks for all,
Uninstall the software and it comes back...
I had the same with PPCProfiles-Pro...lost the icon after installing. Removed it, the icon came back. It's a shy thing that icon, it's done it before too.
Cheers
Ant
Ok, but I don't Know what of the software that I have Install in the pocket is the cause of them.
I would like to Know, If there a key in the registry that do this action.
Thanks,
Yes please could someone confirm weather or not there is a reg key/tweak/hack for the XDAIIi as the sreen icon dissappearing 'trick' is really annoying.
Would greatly apprecaite a reply soon,
LydaiChris
if you search for 'landscape' in the registry you'll find the solution.
In HKLM\System\GDI\Rototion there is a dword key called 'HideOrientationUI'. Set it to zero to unhide/reenable it.
STILL NO LUCK
Can you suggest anything else?!?!?!?
It seemed to dissappear as soon as I increased the glyhe reg hack
Remove the SPB Software, I believe it is PocketMon or Space Saver
S
if it disappears again then there is a tool active which wants to mess with that registry key. I've tried that SPB tool also and it made my landscape icon disappear indeed, as some other tools... so get rid of that tool cause the landscape icon is far more useful.
Hi.
When I first got my XDAIIi, I did a corporate install.
What is SPB ?!?!
Is that anything to do with the o2 software cd that comes with the XDAIIi!? i.e. the GPRS montor, ZIP etc... !??!
Is there another reg hack anyone?!? :?:
Or a piece of software that actually resolves the problem!?
I would greatly appreciate a reply,
Lydiachris
the spb grps toold doesn't conflict with the landscape on the xdaIIi, I've kept it running and it didn't cause any issue.
The only option where it is specified for the landscape icon to be viewed is in the registry key as mentioned earlier... dig the registry.
If then, the icon disappear still not appears or keeps disappearing, as that registry key rightfully specifies the icon's being, then it has to be other (additional) software which prevents it from appearing, e.g. the option to prevent the icon from appearing once the additional program built-in/in is loaded.
Try uninstalling the corp. lot and reinstalling what is necessary I'd say.
as to the fact which application messes which with the icon... at least a few for sure, and as I recalled from tryouts I an spb tool did mess with it.
-scuzi mi errata, pero soy humana-
Is there a program which should be in StartUp to make this work? I checked the registry key (I have the same problem) and it is set to zero, which the previous posts seem to suggest means it should display.
Maybe it has something to do with "Today Timout" ?!?!?
Mine is set to 4 hours.
Does anyone know what the Today Timeout actually does!??!?!
Cheers,
lydiachris
ps. yeah is there any software we can shove in the startup folder which will keep the icon there?!
Sort of solved for me
I removed a bunch of "no longer used" programs last night and the icon mysteriously reappeared after a couple of soft resets. Wierd.....
Yeah but does anyone know what the Today Timeout option does?!?!?!
I ahve searched long time in this forum and cannot find it anywhere!!!
If you leave the device off for longer than the today timeout, you will get the today screen when you switch it back on, otherwise you will get the last application used

Bluetooth System-Tray Icon Issue

...long time lurker; first time poster...
did a search on this once and if it's here, sorry i missed it:
what is the reg-locale for ensuring the Bluetooth System-Tray Icon is enabled to launch when bt is active. since performing the following reg-edits, it no longer appears.
Increasing font cache and screen performance:
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GDI\GLYPHCACHE"
Change "limit" from "8192" (default) to "16384"
Increase general performance:
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS\"
Change "CacheSize" value from "0" to "4096".
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS\CacheSize=0x1000(4096)"
Change "EnableCache" value to "1"
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\fsreplxfilt\"
Change "ReplStoreCacheSize" value to "4096"
Enable Cleartype in landscape mode:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\ClearTypeSettings]
Change "OffOnRotation" to “0”
also... i did this one and then reversed it since i learned (after the fact) that cingular 8125 is already b/g:
Enable 802.11g:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TNETWLN1\PARMS
Assign a value of 1 to dot11SupportedRateMask
Assign a value of 8 to dot11SupportedRateMaskG
thanks to anyone making time to reply!
can someone confirm that their actually is a bt icon that resides in the system tray (top bar) when bt is enabled???
maybe it was a fluke that i actually saw it there for a brief period today?
maybe i'm seeing things?
I have not seen that icon in WM5. But I would like to have it there.
Oh its there alright. In fact, in the online help somewhere on my 8125 it actually lists the icons and their descriptions. One of them is the BT icon.
Its beyond my why there isn't an application that can indicate with a headset icon to notify you if your phone is paired to a BT earpiece. Someone had posted once PhoneAlarm did it, but alas. It does no such thing.
If anyone else knows of a program that will tell you if you're currently connected to a BT device, please speak now!
Ok, found out where the icon is listed. Go to the main WM5 online help on the device and go to Personalizing your device>Over of the Today screen>What do these status icons indicate?
Towards the bottom you'll see the icon... IT EXISTS IT EXISTS!... sigh
it does because today... it appeared for a moment. it played peek-a-boo while device was bugging-out. glad to know i wasn't seeing things. i wonder if having the clock reside in the sys-tray has anything to do with it???
i have found this application http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=1319 to at least show when the BT is on. It also tries to connect to a headset when there is an incoming/outgoing call. Not having a headset myself, I have not been able to test this function, but bt does turn on on a ring and turn off when I end the call.
i got this cab from somewhere here in the forum which shows the bt icon on the system tray, to allow you switch on/off bluetooth, i beleive it was designed for the universal but it works fine with my kjam (wizard).

Now I only need the same type of icon for wifi. Anyone got such .cab file???
Works Great on KJAM JASJAR and EVEN A T O M !
Thanks.
I tried it on my k-jam but unfortunatelly... nada
I downloaded the cab file to my pc through the link, then copied the file to my devise and run the installation therein...
Am i missing something?
Weird
I installed this, and nothing happened, so I deleted the program, using "remove program" from Settings/System, and it started working. Go figure.
yeah,it works good on MDA Vario(czech TMO firmware)
pls have u got same cab for wi-fi ?

Automatically Disconnect Data Connection

Fellow Titan Users,
I've been reading and applying most everything that this forum has to offer and I've got to say it's awesome. I feel like I've learned a lot, and I'm continually trying to do so.
I have a fairly simple question prefaced by my situation: I'm very careful with my battery and anytime for example I use my internet, as soon as I close it I turn off the data connection to save battery life.
Is there a program, or a script that anyone is aware of....that as soon as I close Internet Explorer / Java Opera 4.1, or Opera 8.65, etc, that within 15-20 seconds or so of no use it would be disabled?
Additionally, is there anyway to click the top connection bars and have a way to just hit an X button(much like SPB Pocket Plus does) to close it? I have the Comm Manager button on the side of the Titan that I use to open up Comm Manager, then click the Data Connection icon and then it closes. I'm hoping for something that will save a few more seconds.
Thanks for any help, advice or ideas.
Yea,its called internet connection sharing,it (or so it seems) automatically drops connections anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes after you open them. ;-)
Seriously though,I think there might be some registry settings for autodisconnect, but I dont really know what they are. Ive been trying to get mine to STAY connected.
I just press and hold the red 'end call' button, that does it nicely.
There is also an ap, (I think it's schapps advanced config) that lets you set a time of inactivity to auto-disconnect. However there are some who have had other problems after using the ap.
there is also an registry setting...it allows you to click the connection icon on the screen and a disconnect button is displayed which is what i do and its sooo much easier and disconnects without you having to open up comm manager i have the new rom and its custom so ye it still works without a hitch The Vision duration registry
This edit allows you to see the duration of your Vision connection along with a button to disconnect it. You see it in the bubble that is displayed when you tap the Vision icon.
Click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Click ControlPanel
Click Phone
[at this point, the buttom grey status bar should read \HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone'
Click the bottom menu 'edit'
Select new dword value
Change the value name to "Flags2" (no quotes).
Select the 'hexidecimal' button.
Type 10
Click ok.
You should now see in the 'name/data' section:
Flags2 16 (0x00010)
When done, reset the device.

Works great.

I tried that yesterday and for some odd reason then my GPS could nto get a lock at all... When I restored the old registry then it came back to working.. Dunno why or how but just a warning out there..
If you're really concerned with battery life, get the seidio extended battery. I've gone the entire weekend (fri, sat, sun) without recharging my batter, running flexmail with 8 different imap accounts, using google maps with gps and a little wifi at night ending up with 50% battery on monday! That is CRAZY!
Worth mentioning i run flexmail all day, so that is a constant drain and thus has the inet connected all day. Before i'd have to fully charge my phone 2-3 times a day. 2 without talkingon it for a little bit.
Try these:
Code:
REGEDIT4
;Enable auto disconnect GPRS if not use 60 seconds
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings]
"CacheTime"=dword:0000003c
"SuspendResume"="GPRS_bye_if_device_off"
;Disable auto connect GPRS
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\PhoneExtendFunction]
"EnableCPHSONS"=dword:00000001
"NoGPRSAutoAttach"=dword:00000001
Pocket Toolman is quick and handy for adjusting these settings, has a lot of other tweaks included, and is freeware.
Thanks
I've been using PocketToolman. It's real simple and works quickly, thanks a lot. Also, thanks to everyone else that made suggestions.
