Uni running latest rom.
Info :- Yesterday Activesync working at home and at work through USB.
Got home last night and thought I will set up my bluetooth conenction at home. Did this no problem at all the Uni connects through Bluetooth fine.
Get to work today and Uni Will not sync through USB.
I have gone through these Forums and can not find anything. Activesync just keeps saying connected.
Help !!!!!
Me again.
I have been through the Forums on this site and tried all the stuff on here.
Can I have on PC connect by bluetooth and another via USB.
I have tried soft reset and Activesync still says Connecting then times out after a long time.
Any help on this matter would be good.
Yo!
Can I have on PC connect by bluetooth and another via USB.

Yes. For my Xda Exec I have a USB connection to 'WORK-PC1', I have also set up a WiFi internet connection at work. Then, when I get home I use a Bluetooth connection and surf the internet using my 'HOME-XP-PC' connection via anothre ActiveSync 4.1 partnership (and also via a USB cable link if I want).
Alot of reference is made (here & other web sites) to ActiveSync & issues with partnerships: it appears that the thing to do is delete any troublesome partnerships, reset the PC & set up the partnership again.
Cheers,
Andy
CraptiveSync
Here we gop then :-
Active Sync :- Work PC (USB) Home PC (Bluetooth)
Have Wi-fi working no problme at home or work.
I have had to hard reset my UNI. Now both work and home connect fine using usb.
I set up BT on Home and the usb connection stops working. Also will not sync usb at work.
soft reset nothing. turn BT off nothing. Hard reset again and it syncs with both pcs usb.
Bluetooth on work pc this time.
Same again once BT set up will not usb sync.
GOD I HATE ACTIVE SYNC. In fact im renaming it to CraptiveSync.
I have no tired this in as meny ways as can set up BT first then USB.
BT and BT on both pc's works fine. but will not usb.
USB first then BT.
My experiences with this type of CRAP so far has led me to believe:
1) It's NOT ActiveSync - it's OK as long as v4.1 is used. Ensuring that WinXP Pro uses SP2 etc. etc.
2) It's NOT the PDA - only a handful of options HOWEVER one crucial thing I have learnt is:
Start > Settings > Connections > Connections (icon):
Advanced (tab): > Select Networks:
Ensure BOTH options are set to 'My Work Network'.
3) If there are any issues, IT'S AT THE PC END OF THINGS and it's this multitude of crappy layered & hidden options and badly written drivers that casues ActiveSync (et al) to go AWOL.
Oh, & ongoing issues I have with COM ports.....
Andy
CraptiveSync issues still happening.
Hard reset both Pc's connect fine using USB. As soon as either PC is switched to Bluetooth and a connection is set up USB STOPS WORKING.
IT WORKS FINE until Bluetooth set up.
Anyone ??
USB Activesync Issue
I'm getting the same issue, but I only connect through USB. I sync to a work PC and a home PC. It all worked fine straight after reflashing (a mere two weeks after I got the damn thing, too many problems with the slow Orange ROM).
It started with the "Connecting..." message staying on the screen on the home PC. I have just now deleted all partnerships on the PC and am trying again. It's now just saying "Retrieving settings..."
I'm going to rename the phone and try again from scratch.
I don't know how Activesync works but I'm wondering if maybe the version of it on my phone, that was installed during the reflashing is different/incompatible with the version on my PC. I have no idea if Activesync is installed during the flashing process or if it somehow sits there throughout. Does this sound reasonable? If it is the case, how does one go about checking the version of AS on the phone?
Any help appreciated. TIA
SORTED THE BLUETOOTH ISSUE
I have sorted out the Bluetooth isssues I was having in this thread.
Heres how :-
Home pc (Bluetooth) Work pc USB.
Hard reset the UNI (This restores active sync back to default settings).
Set up USB pc first.
Then set up Bluetooth Pc.
It works.
I noticed while buggering about last night that there seems to be something up with one of the network adaptors and IP addresses but honestly I don't know enough about TCP/IP to do anything with it!
I managed to sync using a BT connection but it seemed to take an age.
Won't reconnect bluetooth
I'm having what appears to be a distinct problem. I have a T-Mobile MDA which I synch by cable at the office, and by bluetooth at home.
This arrangement worked for a while, but now every time I disconnect the bluetooth, I can't reconnect until I go into bluetooth settings, choose devices tab, find the home PC partner, press and hold for edit. There I see the Activesync service checked, but if I refresh, the Activesync service is unchecked. If I check it, I can synch via bluetooth without difficulty.
Any ideas? This clearly seems to be a problem with the PPC Activesync.
More
This problem -- I have to edit the bluetooth connection on the PPC -- has a slight wrinkle. Just unchecking and checking the Activesync service on the devices edit will make it possible to connect. It is as if the service is actually unchecked when it appears checked.
zone alarm & active sync
I just figured it out from my end ... with the :connecting" activesync problem. It seems that Zone Alarm was the culprit and since then everything has been working fine.
hey underwurlde how do u surf the net on ur universal via ur pc? i ve been tryin since i dont kno wen but havnt been success full. on connectin them by bluetooth it asks for a dialing number or a pass. which will be used to connect

I would love to know the answer to this one.
I was surfing on wifi last night. Now today activesync just says connecting for ever when using USB.
I read on the MS website an old post that said if you do many soft-resets usb activesync may be imparied and you need to do hard reset. There is no way I will reinstall all my apps again. I am sure this is a firmware thing.
Something has become corrupted in the universal's program storage. hard reset just effectively reinstalls everything. Perhaps re-installing one of the cabs from the extended rom will solve this problem.
anyone have any suggestions or sovled this problem themself ? (my problem is definitely not firewall!)

Firstly Essgee Im assuming your craptivesync connection is on your home pc via bluetooth. It makes no odds if its bluetooth or usb. If its a work connection it might be a firewall thing. I can ot surf the web at work on my ppc as the fire wall will not let me.
Home PC. Or slack work firewall.
Sync with PC. Open ActiveSync up. Go to file and the connection settings. In the drop down box marked as "This computer connects to" change it to the internet. You should now be able to surf the net.
Let me know ??

This happend to me. I had to hard reset PPC and it has not happend since. Dont know what went wrong. I did read somewhere that WI-FI connected to a WLAN and then BLuetooth Activesync don't get on when both are trying to connect to the internet. (This was my problem).

I didn't actually use bluetooth, just wifi. It might be another reason, it might be because we disconnect the PPC from the PC when activesync is doing something, or making a call, and this corrupts something on the PPC. It definitely not the PC as I tried different ones and also reinstalling activesync and wiping registry entries.
Anyway I had to do a hard reset, and it all worked again. Damn it!
ActiveSyncToggle
If you are having trouble with the reconnection problem -- that is, having to reboot the PC and/or soft reset the Wizard to get a success, I have found that most of my problems were reduced by using ActiveSyncToggle to shut off Activesync, and disconecting the bluetooth connection on the PPC rather than shutting off bluetooth.
ActiveSyncToggle solves the PC problem entirely (I never have to restart PC) but I still sometimes have to go to PPC bluetooth connection, click on the PC and uncheck and re-check the activesync service. This is clearly a software problem, since the service is checked but acts as if it is unavailable; unchecking and then putting the check mark back cures the problem.
ActiveSyncToggle solves another problem for me. Sometimes in boot up, the bluetooth starts after activesync, which causes an error "can't find the com port" from activesync. Since I now shut off activesync, I don't get these error messages.
Not exactly plug and play, though.

After 2 days of hitting my computer and swearing at anyone around me who interupted what i was doing, i finaly got activesync working with my BT dongle.
Sweet as anything. After messing arround with the network settings i also managed to connect through the LAN internet connection with activesync and go back to using GPRS when not (like the way it works with USB)
Bags of fun!
Guess most you guys know how to do this anyway but if not give me a post
I got mine to work too, but have given up on it now because acivesync was so infuriating. It expects you always to use the same connection type rather than going through each available type and using the one the XDA is on.
I generally only wanted to use it intermittently (for surfing from the living room); at other times, I'd not have BT on to save batteries, and when cradled I wanted to use USB. The stupid dialog box that always popped up saying "bluetooth connection not available, do you want to try again or change your connections" (answer: no, I simply want you to use the USB connection that is working) was just too annoying.
So, did you find a way around this, or did you just unplug the USB and always use BT?
I can turn off BT and still use USB just have to change the com port in the settings else it wont work. Find BT very slow tho for transfer of files. Could not get the BT working with activesync 3.7 cos it would drop the connection and then say com port open cant connect when i tried to connect again. Then i would have to restart my pc and still end up with the same problem. 3.7.1 seems to work much better.
My activesync don't wanna connect me with BT,I have to enter in Connection settings and all the times select Port Com 5 to connect via BT..this from some days..
Hmm..think I have to reinstall "ActiveBuggy" again?
When I have my cingular 8125 connected to my desktop and activesync is running, I can't connect to anything on the internet with my PDA.
I'm accustomed to being able to do that and my previous PDA devices used activesync and the PC's internet connection to do that. Can the 8125 not do that?
Yes, the 8125 and other variants of the Wizard can use ActiveSync's "passthrough" function using port 5721, so it's definitely not exhibiting normal behavior.
ActiveSync is syncing ok? Do you get the two back and forth arrows icon on top (indicating a passthrough connection)? What happens when you try to browse?
I confess I haven't seen this before but I would start by opening a command prompt on your pc. Type the command
telnet 169.254.2.2 5721.
If it returns "Connect failed" you have some software blocking the connection -- possibly firewall since it's the often the culprit in AS connectivity issues, but possibly other sync software, or vpn.
You might try disabling your startup items using msconfig then see if it works -- go to start > run > msconfig.
On the General tab, click Selective Startup, then uncheck the Load Startup Items box. Then click the Services tab, check the box that says Hide All Microsoft services, then disable the remainding services. Reboot.
You'll need to run AS manually once it's booted then see if it will let you use the passthrough connection.
Well, it syncs just fine. It just doesn't get the passthough connection.
The telnet works just fine also.
Interesting. What does it do when you try to browse using the passthrough? Does it try to open a gprs connection instead? Does it give an error message?
It errors out with a message: "The page cannot be displayed because the connection was lost. Please try again."
Some more information.
When connected via activesync, I can check email. It's only the pocket IE that can't get to anywhere.
Any ideas?
i'm hating activesync 4.1, it disconnects halfway through a file transfer then renders my device unuseable til i soft reset and makes my pc not shut down without unplugging it :x
Ive done all the firewall settings etc but it still doesnt work properly, i can only stay connected to my pc for about 3 mins.
Guess im gonna have to buy a card reader

Out of curiousity, are you syncing with bluetooth or USB?
with usb, i also have wifi in the house but it wont log on to that either  it finds it ok (and next doors hehe  ) but thats as far as it'll go. it wont accept the network password (im using the pkey method)
ive done all the stuff suggested by m$oft but nothing seems to help. it could be an issue with my home network stealing the bandwidth apparently-does this sound right? i never had a problem with my ppc2003 ipaq on active sync 3.8 but now that wont work either without cutting off after 3 mins.
why does m$oft crap never work
When the Wizard is connected and the Activesync box shows on your Computer, when u go to File > Connection settings.
Is the tab "This computer is connected to:"
set to "the internet"
Cuz that was the problem with mine. I set it to internet, and voila!, hello world wide web.
i only want to transfer music+videos+photos etc, not bothered about syncing the other stuff like contacts or using it to go online as im on an unlimited data tariff anyway
I'm having somewhat similar issues to the OP. Activesync Sync's fine, I can transfer files to/from the phone...however Passthrough doesn't work. I've disabled my firewall, and checked and rechecked all the settings on the PC and the Phone with no luck. If anyone has anything to suggest please let me know.

I hope it's ok to ask this question in your thread. It regards activesync and outlook. My problem is that I can not add a calendar event with any text added to the note field on my cell phone (Cingular 8125) and have it sync to Outlook on the PC. I always get an "attention required" message followed by a error code: support code 1.
If I only have a calendar topic and location without any notes, it syncs up fine. Or I can add an event on the PC and have lots of notes and it syncs to the phone just fine...but not vice versa.
Just wondering if any of you have a similar issue - I have Activesync 4.2 and Outlook 2002
Incidentally, I can surf thru my phone when connected usb to my Dell Inspiron notebook.
thanks
Activesync just keeps trying to connect and is never successful. I have re-installed Activesync on my pc but it didn't help. Also, my work pc doesn't connect either. Definately a problem with my 8125. All has been well for a couple months and I have added no new software before the problem started. This problem also happened about two weeks after I got the phone and the only resolution was a hard reset. What a pain reinstalling all the software and settings I have now, it's customized just the way I like it. Anyone know how to re-install Activesync on JUST the phone or have any other ideas?
Try the latest activesync 4.2 beta and disable any firewalls if possible on the pc. On the device start activesync application and go to menu\options - delete pc that you are syncing with and try again.
Deleted profiles on both pcs installed beta on one. Still no connecting. Tried clicking SYNC on phone, pauses for a second then nada. No connection.
Have you deleted profiles on the device? and disable firewalls, and if you have a network adapter enable it because latest activesync treats the connection with device as a network - there are many posts on this issue do a search and read through some - seem to be many different factors involved.
First- Thanks for the replies Mark
I removed the PC profiles from my 8125. Also reinstalled Activesync 4.2 on my work pc. Nothing. Although this time I got an error message- Cannot find the file "http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=65257&clcid=0x409" (or one of its components) Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all libraries are available". Like I would know what that means. Anyways, no firewall enabled. Besides, this should not be happening, all of a sudden, on 2 separate pcs. That kinda rules out a pc problem. It has to be in the phone. That, and the fact that a hard reset fixed it last time. I'm thinking something corrupted in Activesync on the phone???
And searching on this forum is useless. I type in "connecting Activesync" and every post with either word shows up. 614 in just Wizard forums alone. Is there a way to search so that ONLY posts with both words show up? That way I can modify my wording until I find something useful. Search for any terms or use query as entered is ticked. On other forums you can just use quotation marks but not this one. It makes searching very difficult. ROB
Oh, and yes my network adapters are still enabled as always.
Yes best to search with the word AND cuts out all the other stuff i.e. activesync AND connection would do it. Yep sounds like it may be the device.

Happy reading, the last post is about connecting activesync via bluetooth so maybe thats an option.
Thanks Mark. I think I may try the bluetooth connection when I get home tonight. Or I may just throw in the towel and do a hard reset. that worked last time. Plus, I can install the latest ROM upgrade. Shame theres no way to uninstall and reinstall Activesync on the phone. Seems that should do the trick (maybe). Just tried my friends 8125 on my work pc- syncs just fine. So much for all the pc fixes everyone seems to be trying.
I had the same problem with AS refusing to connect via usb or BT.
In the end i went & purchased (although the demo version would have done) Sprite backup. installed on the PC. Browsed to the install dir to find the cab file. copied to my wizard (wifi, or sd card reader etc).
Insatlled & backed up to SD card
Hard reset
restore
stop here if you're happy, if not
AS to sync calender & contacts to pc
hard reset
update ROM
AS contacts, cal, docs etc back to wizard
install SW & settings
BACKUP
Yep. Had to hard reset. All is working again. Crappy Activesync. What's up with this P.O.S. ? Trying to setup bluetooth now and the pc finds the phone but AS won't connect. The phone finds the pc (HomeCenter) but it shows no services available. I'm assuming that there should be some listed (maybe Activesync?) Guess I'll have to do some searching for bluetooth problems with AS now. Did I mention that AS is a P.O.S??? But you all knew that already.
Dont forget to open a port in you BT settings (on the pc) and tell AS (also on the pc) to accept connections on that port.
Then your wizard should be able to see the AS service on the pc (you initiate the sync from the phone, not the pc)
I have had this problem since day one, and continue to have it despite several (more than 15) hard resets, multiple ROMs, multiple pertnerships etc. I plug in my PPC USB, and it just says "connecting" forever. Every time, after plugging in my USB, I have to shut off my PPC, and turn it back on. Then my laptop finds and connects with my PPC, and syncs all my data like it should. If I do this more than 3 times, my laptop crashes and reboots. If anyone has figured out how to fix this, let me know.
I have my 8525 setup to sync my calendar and contacts with my work exchange server. It works fine unless I connect my phone to my home PC and ActiveSync tries to sync it. I suspect the exchange server is setup to recognize mobile devices and not allow a non mobile device to connect.
Is there anyway to prevent the sync when connected to the PC and leave it enabled for getting it's own updates through it's own data connection?
Or is there a fix to let the PC successfully connect?
Turn off or uninstall ActiveSync on the home computer?
Can you just uninstall or turn off the ActiveSync app on your home PC? If you turn off the 'Start when Windows starts', it should stay off until you decide to open it on your own. The phone should still charge and that is the reason I am assuming you are plugging it in to your home PC. Just my 2cents.
Also depends upon DNS etc.
E.g. I have exchange server on local LAN, but use DynDNS to access it over the internet.
So, entry for my phone is mydomain.dyndns.org (or whatever). Thing is, when you plu the phone a PC on the LAN at home, it tries to resolve mydomain.dyndns.org, which of course it does, and ends up with my external internet address.
I solved this by putting an entry mydomain.dyndns.org in the hosts file of the PC I use to connect the phone, pointing to the LOCAL LAN address of the exchange server.
Hope that makes sense.
Could, of course, be irrelevant for you tho
Actually, I have just re-read your orginal post where you mention "Work Exchange Server" so what i have said is indeed probably irrelevant.

I do use ActiveSync on my PC on occasion to install/remove software.
I am not aware of any way to deactivate it though. I could of course remove it from startup applications but once you launch it you cannot shut it down easily.

Exactly.
The issue is work exchange and home PC.
Oddly though, I do not remember having this problem on my 8125. Perhaps I did have it and just do not remember.
Is there a way to stop the device from using the PC internet connect and force it to use it's own radio? I suspect this is not the device so much as it is ActiveSync on the PC side.
Is it a known issue that the exchange server is looking at the connecting device to determine if it is indeed a mobile device? The exchange server domain is listed as mobile.mydomain.com where our normal remote access exchange domain for Outlook Web Access would be mail.mydomain.com making me think it is specifically setup for Windows Mobile devices and it does some detection of the device type.
I do not seem to be able to setup different sync settings on the PC than on the device as they update to the other when connected.
Others must have this problem as well but I have not seen any other threads on it yet.
I'm just guessing here...
maybe you can try to erase your device from your home pc and stablis a new partnership again, but this time when the options apear, choose to sync nothing, I mean disable the sync options in ActiveSync at your home...
or set the new partnership as guest, this way the PPC wont try to sync but will let you explore or install programs.
If I understood rigth, you dont neet to sync info with your home pc, just instal programs or explore the PPC
edit: also, in Connection Settings in activesync put a checkmark in "allow wireless connection..." just to let your phone have a GPRS connection while attached to your pc.
Hope it could help.
Regards
Mablan
I cannot find an "Allow wirelessconnection" option in ActiveSync. I am running the version released a couple of months ago for the DST fix.
I think not plugging into the PC to charge may be the way to go and either plug into another PC without ActiveSync or into the AC charger. I was thinking about getting a cradle though and that would be a nuisance.
Would this same issue occur if I were using BlueTooth to sync with the PC? I wonder.
I also frequently have problems if the 8525 is left plugged into the computer overnight. It will sometimes lock up on me so that I cannot turn it on and have to soft reset, or it will seem to be working until I try and make a data connection and find that it will not connect and also requires a soft reset. This is a major nuisance when I am playing audio through a BT connect in my car and realize I cannot connect data and have to reset. The BT connect in my car is NOT automatic and I have to go to Com Manager/Settings/Bluetooth Settings/Devices then I have to Top/Hold on my Scosche adapter and select Set as Wireless Stereo. This is difficult to do while driving. Might have to look for a different BT receiver for the car as this is a nuisance that does not exist in my HT820 headset.

In Activesync...open File menu, then choose Connection Settings, a pop up window will open, in that window the last option is the one that has to be checked...
Also, if you connect your device to PC in home only for charging it, then I think the option of conect as guess is a good opction...
Regards;
Are you getting an error message?
Try browsing the internet while connected to the PC. Its often an XP firewall/security issue. I had the same problem with one of my PCs. Installing AS 4.5 fixed it.
Hope that helps you.
I have just upgraded my o2 XDAiis to Helmi WM6 and the new software works ok. i have a number of issues.
1. when i put the pda in the cradle my wireless internet drops out. every time and only when i try to sync the device. the wireless manager on the laptop pops up telling me unable to connect to wireless connection.. if i remove the pda and manually reconnect it, it works.. put the pda back in, drops out again.
2. i can no longer sync my ACT contacts.. i am using ACT v6.
it doesn't work and i have to unselect the act options or activesync crashes.. worked fine with WM2003
can anyone suggest a newer program to sync my contacts ?
3. the sound for the phone icon on the pda changes every now and then.. if i have the volume turned up.. it will change to vibrate.. sometimes after i view my calendar and go back to the today screen..
any ideas ?
1. AS-file-connection settings-allow wireless connection when cradle
2. dont know
3. dont realy understend the problem, is the volume changing from load to quited or vibrate chaotic?
Let me guess, you have a Centrino laptop with an Intel wifi card, and your wifi connection uses WPA security?
The problem is a bug in the Intel drivers. I fought for months with that issue. Intel finally fixed it in drivers released a couple of months ago. Just go to your laptop manufacturer's site and download the latest drivers, or go direct to Intel.com and get them there.
As an alternative solution you can switch the PPC's USB sync mode from RNDIS (the default which triggers this problem) to serial mode, but you will have to remember to do it every time you hard reset.
Go to Start->Settings->Connections tab->USB to PC icon, and untick the box that says "Enable advanced network functionality". Sometimes a soft reset is required to make the change.
If you don't have an Intel wifi card then it must be some other issue.
yes.. i have an IBM laptop with centrino and i am using an intel wireless card with WPA security.
however i have the latest drivers - 9.0.4.36
i will try the settings change to disable advanced networking features
