Com Ports for TOMTOM and MDA Vario dont match - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

When setting up my COM port for my BT GPS my Vario only has PORTS 6,7
No matter which port i choose doesnt matter because in my tomtom it only has COM 0,2,3,9
I downloaded some software to give me extra ports but i was no help in my situation it only gave me PORT 5-8.
It is good software.

How can i link my bluetooth GPS with my tomtom without matching ports??

tomtom 5.12 works ok.... had the same problem with the older version

open \program files\navigator\navigator.cfg with a text editor and change the number after com to 6 or 7 (which ever you used in bt settings). Page is mostly garble but you'll see comx with x as the port currently set in tomtom. You can copy file to pc and open with wordpad. edit and copy back.
worked for me.

I use my Vario on ports 6 and 7 with 5.21 version upgrade

MDA vario
Do Varios Only have PORT 6 and 7??

I have a T-Mobile Vario and an O2 mini S.
I setup a new outgoing port for port 7 for the BT device (in the BT settings), but when I tried to setup the BT device in TT it did not show an option in the configure menu for the BT device of either 6 or 7.
As soon as I upgraded to TT V5.2 it showed the com port 7 setting available.
So I think you need to upgrade to TT V5.2.

Yes, try the latest update from tomtom.com which is available for free and install it.
here is the page:

Befor installing read the comaptibiliy list to be sure that this is the right update for youre device.

Got the Update
Thanks blueled
I must have been using the wrong update before!
I have it now But..........
This may seem dumb but now its asking me for a activation code any ideas on a cough**

Were almost there with this dumby
Thanks for all the help!!

How Did you paste the update over the old. Was'nt it an exe file for installation ?
I updated without the need of a new activation.
But anyway... why don't you go to their webside and get a new activation ?

Will TomTom Navigator 5.x work with the Universal?

Hi, I'm hoping to get the new Windows Mobile 5 device dubbed the HTC Universal, AKA o2 xda Exec.
TomTom tell me TomTom Navigator 5 is NOT compatible with it.
www.mobilefun.co.uk state that it is compatible.
Some people on forums say they have 5.1 working with the device.
Other people state the Bluetooth won't lock in.
Does anyone here know the truth?
Yes it will work
It works. I use TT 5.1 about every day (via a bluetooth receiver). Here's the instructions to install the program.
http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=28171&highlight=
Go about half way down.
To install your BT GPS receiver. First pair the device. Then add a new COM Port under the Bluetooth settings. You want to add an OUTGOING port. I usually specify it as COM0. Then start up TT5, go into GPS configuration, selct "Other BT Receiver", then select COM0 from the menu. TOMTOM will automatically start up BT (it doesn't have to on before you launch the program), find the already paired receiver and start communicating with (give it some time though. the whole process takes about 30 seconds to a minute).
Hope this helps.
Cool, thanks!
And finally... I assume the Universal can support 2 simultaneous bluetooth connections? E.g. can I use TomTom with the bluetooth GPS at the same time as speaking on a bluetooth car kit?
To keep things simple
Tomtom 5.0 does NOT work with the Universal. Tomtom 5.1 Does. Hpoe this helps
Received my T-Mobile UK MDA PRO today. I can confirm that TomTom 5.1 DOES work great on it with any bluetooth GPS device, although it was a few hours before I stumbled upon a thread in this forum which had instructions on how to get it working
jasjar works fine with tt5.1 and can connect at same time with gps, headset and many bluetooth devices

Yes it does. I have 5.0 running on my JASJAR now. Haven't upgraded to 5.1 yet in case it breaks something.
just replace the tomtom navigator.exe with the 5.1 version, all done.
How on earth did you manage to get TT5.0 to work?
I have tried everything (all the above tricka and then some) and cannot get the right com port to show up from within Tomtom? Can you tell me step by step?

It does work, if you follow the guide in this thread exactly:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=28386
However, I had to use COM4 instead of COM0.
I also had a problem where I connected everything to the right COM port, could see TomTom accessing the GPS device by the LEDs, but still "no GPS device found!" - it seems TomTom likes your GPS device better if it's actually locked onto a signal (so go outside!), give all this a try
...talking of TTN5....
Has anyone had any success getting TT working with the Wired GPS mouse? Is there a way to connect it to the Exec...?(mini USB to serial connector?)
If the 2 can be physically connected, does the software see it/connect up properly?
TIA
cheers
Paul
FYI, I emailed TOMTOM about the installer crashing, and guess what they said. "TOMTOM 5 is not supported on the IMATE JasJar."
What a load of cobblers. It works perfectly well if you install it using the cab files. TOMTOM support is the biggest load of s**t I have ever come across.
JJ works fine with the following:
1) Navigon MN 5
2) TT 5.1
3) OnCourse Navigator
4) iGuidance
These have been tried and tested.
Just cause it's not supported it doesn't mean they don't think it'll work. it just means that they won't help you fix it if it goes wrong becuase they have not tested on that platform. always worth a try regardless of what the vendor or devlopers say!
Another MDA Pro with TT5
I just got an MDA Pro a couple of weeks ago, and being the fool I am, bought a copy of Tom Tom 5 from Fleabay (doh!).
On receipt, I could not get the software to load from my PC, and when trying to copy over the cab files manually, the ttn.cab file will not load on the PDA. On closer inspection, this has got something to do with 'Bekonl' so appers I have wasted some money on cracked software that does not work.
Is this right? Or if I can obtain an alternative ttn.cab file, will it load, if so will it be locked? I was just looking for a reasonable low priced SatNav solution - but this is proving to be harder than I thought!
For those of you coming from a WM2003 device you can simply install TomTom on a memory card on that. Take the memory card out and put in Universal. It works. That's it.
I am not unfortunately. I am coming from a Mk1 paper diary, a £3.99 map from the petrol station, and a bullet proof Nokia 6310i!
All help gratefully received though.

If the ttn cab fails to install try this;
uninstall all tomtom entries from remove programs.
Remove sd card from device
install gps.cab
soft reset (this is the important bit)
install ttn.cab

Cannot pair XDA Mini S and BT77 GPS via bluetooth

I've been just about everywhere trying to get an answer to this, but no joy so far. I have just bought an O2 XDA Mini S PDA (ROM 2.21.4.1 WWE) running Windows Mobile 5 and a BT77 GPS receiver from Ebay. The problem is I can't get them to pair via bluetooth - this is what happens:
1. the XDA detects "BT GPS" (with a question mark icon)
2. the setup process invites me to select this device
3. I am asked for the "0000" access code
4. I then select "Serial Port" service (the only option)
5. Moving on to COM Ports tab - I create a new Outgoing Port and allocate it to COM 6 or 7 (I've tried both)
I've tried, methodically, every permutation available via the setup facility(secure/insecure pairing via check box, deletion and reset of XDA and GPS in between each try, COM 6/COM 7, etc.), but the GPS device does not pair (i.e. GPS BT indicator continues to flash every 3 seconds or so).
I know that the BT77 is OK because I've had it working nicely in Autoroute 2005 with a BT dongle in my laptop. Incidentally, I have TomTom Navigator 5.21 installed on the XDA.
I've scoured the online forums for an answer to what seems to be not an uncommon problem, but I can't find one. Is there perhaps a utility to fix this or a registry setting which can be changed maybe - I'm completely stumped!!! Can anyone help.............please?
Dave
i am having the same problem... tried installing BTH but that program does not even bother to show up
:?:
I guess the com 6/7 is unavailable. In my o2 mini with windows mobile 2003, i use com8 to pair, and working perfect. Try some software, such as gps viewer, to indicate the available com.
okay.. thanks.. will try now
sorted!!
I've found out how to fix this, but I had to buy GPSDash to do it (you may not if you can get a free version):
To get XDA to pair with BT77 via bluetooth -
1. use XDA bluetooth settings to set "BT GPS" to use COM7 - the BT77 will not pair by doing this;
2. install GPSDash2 (I did it by copying CAB file to memory card touching it with stylus in File Explorer or Total Commander 2 or and change settings of GPSDash to use COM7 (this is a handy app, but it's really
there to enable TomTom to find BT77 - not sure HOW it works, but who cares!!);
3. Run TomTom and configure GPS settings to use "Other GPS" and COM0;
4. find navigator.cfg (installed in \Program Files\Navigator) and copy it to PC;
5. using Ultraedit (hex editor),change 0 in "COM0" to 7 and then overwrite navigator.cfg on phone with
new version;
6. Run TomTom - it should pair with the BT77
Like I said, I bought a copy of GPSDash for a few quid - it's a nice little app to have for SatNav anyway, but you might be able to get a trial version or something - you don't have to run it or have it sat in memory for the GPS to pair, but it being there makes all the difference!!
Hope this sorts it for you
D
i, as an electronics engineer, have experienced that if anything can go wrong it will go wrong. thats exactly what happened with my installation of ttn5 n pairing of bt77.
now i can proudly say that i have done it and its working fine except for the POIs which i deleted myself. anyway, while pairing the bt77, i just chose factory reset for ttn5 and it detected the device automatically. but i think the Bluetooth tools are really handy by thus german dude. i havent tried but i think he will answer questions in english, supposedly.
i think i will pass on my knowledge to others so .... ask! 8)
n yea.. thanks to tomtom, i hope i never get lost again
still cant get it
i have followed instructions above but still no luck

PLEASE HELP!!!

MDA compact tomtom 5 cant see my GPS - please help

Have spent a long time trying to get my tomtom5 navigator working on my mda and now have it all going lovely - however I cant get my bluetooth reciever to be seen by tomtom. It is one of the BT-77 one that you see loads of on Ebay - did used to have it working with my old phone but not this one?
Any ideas - cant give up now!
Thanks
ROger
I have the same problem with an xdalls with a BT338 bluetooth gps.
I can get it to pair up. Tomtom5 does not see it though. Been thru all the settings that i can thing of.... i have the blue light flashing fast and then just logs off.
Paul
I have the BT-77 (also from ebay) and it works perfectly with the TomTom 5.21 software...
I had trouble with it initially too- it's to do with setting the right COM ports.
To get things working, I downloaded and installed Pocket Bluetooth Tools:
http://www.bluetooth.jazztel.es/ Download version 1.0.1.2
Delete any existing pair that you may have with the GPS receiver...
Re-pair the device with the above software installed, and now you will get an iconic menu, use the serial port option and select an available COM port. Complete pairing procedure as per on screen instruction.
Now start up TomTom and go to GPS options in preferences- select 'other bluetooth device' and now you should see the something called 'BT on COMx' x being the port you assigned earlier of course. Complete configuration.
Wait for the receiver to get a fix and you should be ready to go.
I've used the Pocket Bluetooth Tools many times on different variants of the Magician and has work everytime.
Hi
thanks for the info - but still nothing
cant cope anymore
will buy a whole new system i think!

TOMTOM on rw6828 , anyone done it ?

G'day,
I am trying to install TomTom v5.21 onto the rw6828 without much luck.
Tried to copy cab files and get instal unsucessful when running.
Tried to install from PC and get an error that setup.exe encountered an error and the application closed.

Ok..I managed to install the application but I am unable to install the maps now.
I am not sure if I need to start again, as I installed the app first then ran the wizard, it came up with no maps found, I then copied the map and config file to the storage card , when I click on the cab it thinks for a while then reports install unsuccessful.
Any help appreciated
write the correct path in config file (thats locate in "My documents")
I am sure, that the name of your storage card is different with current config.
Problem with GPS Reciver on Atom XDA with Tomtom
Hello, i've installed Tomtom 5.21 and the maps and everything is ok. but i can't make the link between my gps reciver (Royaltek Star III) and the atom XDA. I've installed the partnership in the settings but it doesn't connect with the antenna. I've seen in my other pda (ipaq hx4700 and ipaq hx2790) that there is a bluetooth manager in the connection setting but there is non in the atom xda. Do you know what's the solution ?
Thanks
kropotov, what is the procedure to install your version of tomtom ?? and how do you change the path in currentmap.dat ??? THX in advance
solal
actualy I use cracked version 5.21 from www.4pda.ru
to run the program, you must
1. copy several files to Mydocument (include config file)
2. copy map to card
3. copy application to program files.
When you run application, it look to config in my documents.
So in different devices, you have different names of storage card (Storage, Memory card, SD card, CF card e.t.c.) you must edit config (storage name) to correct path to map files.
OK i am going to try I'll let you know thx
cookie,
i also own an rw6828. i purchased an HP iPAQ bluetooth receiver for it and am having the same issue as dragsterbox. that is i cannot seem to pair the receiver to the rw6828 (which is the same as the O2 Atom). what i would like to know from you is what gps receiver you are using and how you successfully paired the two. no-one has been able to diagnose, even on other forums.
i had no problems installing my version of tomtom on the phone though. i simply copied all installation files to the sd card and tapped the .cab files to install. program (v5) seems to work fine. it is just that the phone and gps receiver dont pair (which is dragsters issue). i am in australia also.

Map of India
Hi every Buddy
Tell me is there any software which can Guide to Travel in India
THANKING IN ADVVVVVV
Hey everyone,
I have finally got my gear (HP iPAQ rw6828 & HP iPAQ Bluetooth GPS Receiver) talking to each other using TomTom Navigator 5 on Windows Mobile 5!
I thought I would post what worked for me in case I could possibly assist any others out there with the same issue. From what I have seen there have been a couple. If I have helped, I would love to hear from you!
If you have had many attempts at this, I would recommend you clear all previous bluetooth pairings, installations and GPS settings then do a soft reset at the minimum. A hard reset is preferable (be sure to backup all contacts, etc to a computer before doing so!).
1. Install TomTom on your device. DO NOT pair the bluetooth receiver yet!
2. Go to Start, Settings, System, GPS.
3. Set GPS program port to COM0.
4. Set GPS hardware port to COM7. Tap OK to exit. DO NOT pair the bluetooth receiver yet!
5. Go to Start, TomTom Navigator.
6. Configure TomTom and your connection as Other Bluetooth Receiver and select COM0 (the GPS program port) as it should be available now (it was never previously available to me in all my other efforts!).
7. Exit TomTom Navigator.
8. NOW pair the bluetooth receiver in Start, Settings, Connections, Bluetooth. Switch bluetooth on and then on the Devices tab select New Partnership. Once found select the bluetooth receiver and tap Next. Enter the required passcode and tap Next. Check the Serial Port box and tap Finish. BEFORE creating bluetooth COM ports go to the next step.
9. Tap OK to go back to Settings then System tab and GPS.
10. Set GPS program port to None. If you do not do this, you will not be able to set the incoming port as COM0 in your Bluetooth settings. We will come back and change it again later. Tap OK to exit.
11. Go back to the Connections tab and click Bluetooth.
12. On the COM Ports tab select New Outgoing Port. Select your GPS receiver and tap next. Select COM7 (the GPS hardware port) and tap Finish.
13. Now select New Incoming Port and select COM0. If you cannot do this, it is most likely you skipped step 10. Tap Finish to exit.
14. Tap OK to go back to Settings then System tab and GPS.
15. Set GPS program port back to COM0. Tap OK to exit then close the settings window.
16. Startup TomTom Navigator and... VOILA! You should be seeing your current location in a matter of seconds!
The truly bizarre thing about my 3 weeks of attempting to get this to work was that I had actually performed all the above steps but possibly in different order (well all apart from the changing around of the GPS program ports in that particular way!). I could never get COM0 as a port in TomTom. So I highly recommend following these instructions to a T if you are having serious trouble like I was. I managed to put all the information I had gathered from various forums, HP support and colleagues at HP (yes I work for HP!!!) together and come up with a RELATIVELY simple way of doing it! In the age of Plug n Play, this seems like a very laborious way to do things. Couldn't someone make an easier way???
Many thanks to all that had responded in my desparation. You all have in one way or another assisted in getting this to work for me. My faith in the PDA world has been restored!
I think my next purchase will definitely need to have an inbuilt receiver
Happy Trails Everyone!
It drives me crazy !
Hello,
I also own a rw6828. When I installed Tomtom 5 on my pocket pc from the ttn.cab file, the install works. I can launch the product, but it says I need an activation code. When I then replace the exe by the c---k one (which works for a colleague, but not having a rw6828), then it fails... Would you have any idea plse ? Which c---k should I be using ? Where can I find one ?
Thks for your help as this issue is driving me crazy and I am nearly regretting having bought that device !!!
Thanks !

Version 5.21 does not need activation in wm5 devices
Here is a very simple tutorial:
connect device via A/sync
run TomTom installer from desktop install via Benelux and tick "install the application".
By default it will install to main memory(whether you select SD or not)
copy your map to SD card putting raw map files into a folder called "TomTom".
If you have other maps you can create another folder called "TomTom1" and drop raw map files into there.
Pair your device with Bt GPS receiver, serial port should come up under partnership settings, make sure box is ticked.
Tap com ports tab and select New Outgoing Port, select com7
There is no need for an incoming Port!
Run TomTom and goto "Change Preferences" goto "Show GPS Status" selet BT receiver and select com7..... Done!
Great thanks
homer285,
Thanks a lot for your support. I have been having issues for 10 days and thanks to you, it is solved now !

What I did
Hello,
Just a quick note to describe what I did. For a reason I don't know, I never managed to install Tomtom 5.00 from the DVD, idem for 5.10 or 5.21. Therefore, I installed TTN from the sd card using a ttn.cab file. I directly install the 5.21 version with its patch. I did pair my BT GPS receiver and finally launch TTN 5.21 and had the pleasure to see it working. I was happy because I started regretting having bought this device.
My error was that I thought that I needed to patch the 5.00 version, then secondly install the 5.10, and finally install the 5.21 version.
Hope this helps and thx for your support.
Cheers
(HP iPAD rw6828, mini SD 1 Gb, Globalsat bt338, TTN 5.21)
there is already TTN 6 for WM5 and WM2003 exist
I need to backup my data and systems before even thinking about a new TT version
This is the reason why I asked in another post if there was a tool to do that, and I am under the impression that I need to add another softwarez to do so, ie there is no already installed tool on the ipaq rw6828, which, imho, is a shame !
backup? Why? TT6&maps can be installed in SD card
TT6
I installed TTN 5.21 on my device, and maps on my storage card. It's true that I could have installed on the storage card, but I was not asked the question...
Is TT6 already available ? What's the enhancements wrt TTN5 ? I may open another post...

TYTN TomTom Bluetooth GPS

Got my htc tytn loaded totom 5 onto it and guess what bluetooth gps doesn't work with it! Cannot get correct comm port .According to HTC TomTom know about this. Just hoping somebody already has a fix for this?
Had no problems pairing my BT Slim GPS with my Vario II, TomTom runs fine.
What GPS receiver you using ?
works fine on my xda trion as well.......im using tom tom 5.21 with BT-338 gps receiver.......im also using com port 0......you basically have to pair it and then add outgoing port as com port 0.....and during the installation on tom tom make sure you choose com port 0......that worked for me anyways....hope that helps.

Thanks guys have re-installed tomtom and now it comes up with com prt 0.Probably didn't install correctly first time .Now up and running .Fantastic!!!!

Hi everyone - I am having a similar problem
I have a new GPS receiver and have established a bluetooth partnership and done the outgoing port to com0 which is the default.
Tom Tom is installed and when I try and configure it I am not seeing all the options shown on the website. It just says no gps detected or something similar. I am sure its something simple.
Can anyone help please?

There's a program CreatePorts that is floating around (you'll have to do a search) that allows TomTom to see additional com ports in the Bluetooth GPS setup. I used this same program on my Samsung i730, and now on the 8525.
You just paid your GPS with the PPC, create the outbound port (in my case I used com 2), run CreatePorts, and then go in to TomTom GPS setup.
Once you get it set up, you don't have to run the app anymore, and TomTom works great
OUCH

I tried running this but i can still only assign certain points from my bluetooth manager and dont have these displayed on the tomtom menu.
When you go into the GPS Status settings on Tomtom and tap configure, have you tried looking to see which com ports it lists and then going back to the bluetooth settings and doing trial and error to allocate any of those port numbers as an outgoing port for your GPS unit?
For my genuine Tomtom GPS unit, I did not even have to set up a port, I just had to pair the device but when I used a friends alternative brand of GPS unit for a short while, I was only able to get that one working under Com port 4. I can't quite remember but it may even have been a case that Com 4 only became visible in the Tomtom GPS configure menu after I had allocated it as an outgoing port for the GPS device (sorry, it is a while back so I can't quite remember the order in which I set it up)
Hope you get it sorted
arghh
I a so annoyed. I did this and had no luck. Later on I did something and got the option for port 2 and used it and it was great. I had to do a soft reset for something else and I cant do it again. tried everything.
MMMM
Happy yet frustrated
I have deleted create ports from my device as it only works once. I have reset my device. I reinstalled createports and extracted the file. I then saw port 2 straight away - the one that had been missing in tomtom.
The only problem is that if I do a soft reset I have to do that again!
It is very frustrating trying to get some of these things working. Have you thought about upgrading to Tomtom 6? you may find you have less problems getting the pairing and ports working right.
Failing that, I am sure you will be able to get it working again, just keep trying all the com ports one by one until you find one that appears in the Tomtom configuration. Like I said, on my XDA Vario II (Hermes) I managed to get it working on Com 4 and when I had an XDA Mini S (Wizard) I seem to remember that it was either Com 6 or Com 7 which worked on that one.
You might want to check the bluetooth settings for security and beam as well. Try turning security off (ie. passkey required off) and make sure the beam setting is ticked to receive all incoming beams.
I will keep my fingers crossed for you

Pairing TOMTOM 6 with Bluetooth GPS (easy) - Kaiser
First after reading the posts I thought I had to reinstall Tom Tom or install another software. Luckily, I paused and read the message when I was about to configure my other bluetooth receiver. It said, first you must establish your bluetooth connection. Well, I lied coz I did try to go on and couldnt find COM 0 or whatever you guys have said.
But that's what I did, eventually. Paired the device as BT GPS, check the serial connection (not sure if secure connection needs to be checked but I left it unchecked to find out later). After that go to com port tab, and click add new port ie selected COM0.
Then go back to TT6 (restarted in my case), and to other bluetooth gps receiver then found COM 0 in there. Voila!!
Chose COM0, but still got no gps device message. Waited for about 2 mins while reading further into the posts and now my TT6 is working.
You could call that strike of luck I dont really care but yeah.. saving some batt power on my kaiser for the bank holiday;s trip. Have a great one everyone!!
P/s: Mine is O2 stellar on Dutty's great work.
Com 4 is the only one that works with Schaps 3.54
