My GPRS is connecting by itself, is there any way to block that? Possible with a password?

Hey Folks,
Does anyone have this working? I've tried and tried, but absolutely no luck. I've tried through a VPN, directly to my PC.
ActiveSync starts the connecting dialog on the PC, but just stops; no error message or anything. I do have an external address with my GPRS connection, so there are no firewalls between my device and the PC.
Any thoughts much appreciated,
Art.
While you say you have no firewalls, many service providers block the ports via GRPS needed for activesync for some bizarre reason. I've got mine working via GSM (direct via host name registry entry rather than VPN), but O2 block activesync traffic over GPRS.
I know that here in Ireland with O2 if you use the APN "open.internet" it will allow all ports through. Contact your mobile service provider, they may give you APN that gives you full access!?
Thanks very much for the answers...
I know it's supposed to be fully open, without any firewalling as well; but will cehck with them again.
I'm trying to out this together as well, but I have a firewall in my router. Which ports should I open & forward to my PC?
Also how do I got round the problem, that on my device AS has my PC LAN-name in the dropdown list.Would VPN be a solution? If yes, how?
Is there a way to make GPRS connection "ask before connecting" ?
Currently, I have wifi connections connecting to internet and 2 GPRS connections which I like to use when there is no wifi.
However, I don't want it to use GPRS unless I want. So I would like to use "ask before connecting" if there is such an option.
How can I achieve this ?
Also, sometimes some applications (Msn Live, Hotmail) connect to GPRS when there is already wifi reaching to Internet.
How can I change this behaviour ?
(I don't want to use GPRS if I'm connected through wifi)
Hi
I hear good things about Danielherrero's bandswitch app. This is a long thread and I think there are revisions along the way so best read through a sample of the pages:

hi mike,
are you sure that application is related to my problem ?
I've read first 6 pages of it and couldn't understand it...
I have been reading this forum and many others all day about the wifi problems people are having but none are like mine so I would like to ask this question, I turn on wifi and it will not find my network or any network around. I have tried to manually put in the ssid and ip address and still it will not connect that way either. I have checked and double checked all my router setting (currently set to open with no wep or anything) I am begining to wonder if the wifi is broken? My second problem I have found it when I change the connection setting to my isp I cannot connect to the internet. Maybe a bad setting, I am not really sure. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
is your router set to broadcast the ssid? if not then that is the problem. if this option is not enabled then no one can see your router.
as far as connecting via a cell connection, make sure you are using an operator cab. I am sure if you do a simple search you will be able to find a cab that will load all of the proper setting for a cellular internet connection.
who is your provider?
Yes, my router does bradcast the ssid and I have four computers and printers that find it without anyproblems. When i turn on wi-fi the phone doesn't even search for a network the icon shows up but I don't get the arrow that go back on forth to show that it is searching or connecting.
I am also having a problem with my 8525. I do get connected but i cant browse the net. Can someone tell me how to setup a connection from scratch to connect to wifi. Thanks

Search around on the Hermes forum. IE doesn't know to use the WiFi connection when it's available. There's a registry key setting that needs to be changed in order for IE to make use of the WiFi connection rather than going out over your data connection with your carrier.
Hi ,
My Hermes somehow gets automatically connected itself on GPRS Networking every certain time, What setting do I have to change to prevent it from happening and connect manually?
Use this. Its called NoData.
Btw, did you even try searching? Its HIGHLY recommended around here before posting.
Thanks very much !!!!
But will this application affect connectivity to GPRS when required?
I am sorry if this turns out to be a stupid/obvious question, but right now I just cannot figure this out! So apologies in advance...
I have a regular data plan associated with my phone, so when I am out and about, I can access the web without problems. At home, the phone will connect either to my own WiFi hotspot (secured) or to my neighbour's (unsecured), and all continues to be well.
Now, while I am at work, I would like the phone to also connect to my office's hotspot, which it does without problems. However, since this connection requires the use of a proxy to connect to the web, I do not get anywhere.
How do I associate the use of a proxy to a specific WiFi profile/connection, and not to the others which are also configured on the phone?
Also, is there a way to tell the phone to give priority to the WiFi connection when available over the 3g connection, or is this done automatically?
TIA!
It's not stupid, there's no separate proxy setting for each Wi-Fi network, just the general "Internet/Work" thingie, but even that wouldn't help because many programs would ignore it (just like it will happen on "big" Windows, by the way - not all programs use IE settings).
So the only workaround I know is to set up your proxy in Opera and turn it on and off manually each time you change networks.
WiFi profiles
Solution is application called WiFi profiles. You can define settings for every wireless network that you use
Thank you very much to both!
I will look into the WiFi Profiles app...
