I'm on my i-mate now & can't find any download links on that page. It is not even published at http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/recent.aspx download center.
Can you post a link to a pre-DL passport auth page?

me
I'm using Visual Web Developer 2005 beta.
Completely new to web development.
HTML tags were completely beyond me as was data driving asp stuff.
BUT......
VWD is a dream to use.
I now have an asp site that lets XDA equiped engineers interface with our back office systems. The database integration is simple (tho there are a few bugs) and controls autosize for the target device.
Give it a go
well the only stuff relevant for me is c++ and maybe a bit of c# so i dont end up like some creepy dinosaur like those people who started coding Cobol back in the 70's and are still at it!
suppose one have to keep a bit up with the trend
VS 2005
Hi, there:
I'm using VS2005beta1, and I think its cool except a stupid bug on device application development. I attached some screen shots here. hope these information helpful.
Unlike evc+sdk developer tool set, vs2005 includes all stuff needed to build device applications, and it supports the latest emulator which running native ARM code on an emulated arm920 device, it's much faster than the legacy emulator, the legacy i486 emulator is still suported, check the attached platforms.jpg for supported platforms, notice wince 5.0 device is in the list.
now we can program in vb.net, c#, or c/c++. the attached screen shots show these different types of projects. convenient enough hur.
well, a big problem arised when develop in c/c++, i did not try vb.net and c# coz I don't like'em. when you create a new project, two platform configurations are created, one for device and the other for emulator. I mentioned the new emulator before, remember? its cpu is an arm920, check the screen shot. this emulator is used when deploy and debug for the project's emulator configuration. but unfortunately, under the emulator configuration, the compile and linker will generate x86 executable which cannot be run on the target emulator. what is worse is that you cannot change to use legacy i486 emulator, you can not even connect to the legacy emulator, the problem may related to the virtual machine network service driver installed by the emulator installation file. I'm still checking it. until this problem is solved can we finally debug on emulator, otherwise we had the only choice to debug on the device, btw I can debug on device with no problem, it can even attach to a running process on the device
at the predicatable future, vs2005 will certainly supercede evc+sdk to become the unified development platform.
why the screen shots appear in a reverse order of my attaching? I think it should be a list instead of a stack.
Well, I think I´ll have a look at it soon. Could you check if there are any project types for deployment? Means a "setup projekt" for devices?
yeah, I forgot this one, check the shot, it support device cab project.
We seem all to be waiting for a version to leak of the CE 5.0 for our devices, and at the same time we seem to think that this will not happen due to the fact our providers are going to want to ship it on new devices and not upgrade the old ones.
Well Mwang put me in the mood to do some searching and this is what I found.
Because Windows CE is in components, you can create a custom version of the OS that includes exactly the elements your particular device requires—no more and no less. Using the Windows CE development tool called Platform Builder, you can create a customized version of the OS, called an "image," that you then download onto your device hardware for debugging. If your hardware is not available yet, you can run your image and debug your applications on the included x86 emulator. That allows the end-user application developer and the low-level system software developer to work in parallel on the same project.

Well it seems that you can download a 120 days trial version which would mean you would have to flash your device in 120 days.
Windows CE Evaluation Version
Windows CE integrates reliable real-time capabilities with advanced Windows technologies to rapidly build a wide range of innovative, small-footprint devices. The evaluation version is a 120-day trial version of Windows CE, valid from the day of installation. The CD and DVD versions include a copy of Microsoft eMbedded Visual C++ 4.0 Service Pack 4. The Evaluation Edition (download) requires you to download eMbedded Visual C++ separately.

Does this work for you gues ?
I tried this a while back.
Its not as easy as it sounds, firstly you have to correctly setup all the drivers for the hardware.
I wouldnt garantee that it has stuff like the phone apps ready to be compiled in either.
lastly, you have to make it into the correct format for the installer prog, I dont know if the package will output a himaupload.exe compatible rom.
Let me know how you guys do though, it would be nice to compile our own OS!
It's installing on my computer  i want it on my PPC
Well I found a 30 min tutorial on the platform builder and it looks like a lot of the stuff is around (Wifi), What we will miss is the camrea app, but hell its a start.
Ps cant find that link anymore, and the posted link works great.

Im sure it's a 120 days from the day you install it on your Desktop PC :?
definatly not as easy as you think!
i had the older version and i made some images for X86 machines (to make them thin clients)
you need every driver for the device that it will be installed on so theres alot more required than just the platform builder,
check it out anyway, its still fun to use and you can make custom CE's for old PII machines (routers, thin clients etc)
Well Bosjo, would that not give you 119 days to post a BA Rom?
@MDAIIIUser
Well i dont know, but Im guessing that the ROM itself will expire 120 after Desktop installation
@bosjo
Well you better hurry up and do good documentation so that I can rebuild your posted rom in 118 days.
@MDAIIIUser
Ha ha ha, well don't get your hopes up, Im just a plumber that bought a BA to save some time and get projects more organized........... Well that what just to be a laughf, this device has eaten every spare second I have had since the day i bought it, and it's still crappy...............
What? You mean you can use it as a phone, thought it was only good for the pocket solitair, how did you do it? and can I read it on wiki?
You see I am True born again MDAIIIUser and
"I haveth faith in thou"
I've pu the windows CE 5.0 installer in the upload folder
Good job you got this , see your pm
Hmmm... well, if someone can create a ROM that won't expire or brick my device, I'm willing to help with testing...
Let me know if you need me...
hehe. Its impossible to create WM2005 from the stuff offered with the trial WinCE 5.0 Platform builder.
Hint: WM5 has version 5.1. PB offers 5.0
im wondering.. where would you get ALL the drivers from? im sure HTC will not be willing to help us here..
@Manich
I truly respect your post and I am very much aware of not having your knowlege, insight, understanding, hacking competence.
That is why I am amember of this forum, to learn from people like yourself in order to try and get the best for my device. To share what I have learnt with others (I use wiki for that).
So please, please share with us a better idea of how we can get 2005 on a BA. It would save me a lot of time searching on the net, uploading sdk that are of no use as well as moving files on the ftp.
A "it cant be done answer" I could accept if it came from somebody else without your knowlege and I remember reading that somebody wrote something along the lines if it can run it can be cracked (smile).
With alll due respect
MDAIIIUser
Generally it cannot be done as you don't have a board support package for BA or other compatible platform. With lots of hacking and reverse engeneering you can write all drivers and all applications absent from Platform Builder (like cprog, SMS client, SIM toolkit, etc), but it would be only a waste of time. It would take as much time and would be as useless as making a Linux for BA. Better buy a device that originally ships with OS you want.
The only hope for getting WM5 on BA is that some person from MS would offer it or someone would get a device with such a ROM. Even a locked device with a signed ROM would help.
I asked a few days back if this was possible and ended up e-mailing back and forth with a guy at TAO and he showed me how to do it after we figured out that the wizards java manager could handle it.
This is what he told me (I'll explain it all afterwards):
-r"<suite>","<vendor>","<name>"
where:
<suite> is the name of the MIDlet suite and can be obtained from the
MIDlet-Name line in the jad file.
<vendor> is the name of the MIDlet vendor and can be obtained from the
MIDlet-Vendor line in the jad file.
<name> is the name of the MIDlet and can be obtained from the first
parameter to the relevant MIDlet-<n> line in the jad file.
the shortcut to the manager program is \windows\jmm.exe, so a specific link would be \windows\jmm.exe -r"<suite>","<vendor>","<name>"
To find all of the information you need, you need the .jar or .jad file on your computer.
1. Open the .jar(.jad) file with winrar or 7zip or other unzipping program
2. Open the META-INF folder
3. Open the MANIFEST.MF file with a document viewer, I used wordpad.
Here's what google local gave me: I've bolded what you need to know
Manifest-Version: 1.0
MicroEdition-Configuration: CLDC-1.0
MIDlet-Name: Google Local
Created-By: 1.5.0_04-b05 (Sun Microsystems Inc.)
Ant-Version: Apache Ant 1.6.2
MIDlet-Vendor: Google
MIDlet-1: Google Local, GoogleMapsIcon.png, com.google.googlenav.Googl
eNav
MIDlet-Version: 1.0.0
MicroEdition-Profile: MIDP-2.0
4. Create a shortcut to the java manager(\windows\jmm.exe) on your ppc and open it for editing. I used Total Commander for this.
5. Remember that the shortcut has to be in -r"<MIDlet-1>","<MIDlet-Vendor>","<MIDlet-name>", so here, the full path should be \Windows\jmm.exe -r"Google Local","Google","Google Local"
6. Now you can link that to a button or put it in a launcher. When activated, the link will open the manager first, then the midlet.
Opera mini is \Windows\jmm.exe -r"Opera Mini","Opera Software ASA","Opera Mini"
I dont know how to link icons, so if someone could help me with that, I'd appreciate it. Now, all the links have the MIDlet manager icon.
I'd also love to hear what other cool midlets people are using.
Excellent information! Now I can link to Google Local from my Today screen with Pocket Plus!
Brilliant! I was looking for this exact information . Checked around on the Tao site but didn't find any documentation.
Changing the icon is done by adding the following to the end of the shortcut:
?\Program Files\Opera\opera.exe,0
The number is the n'th icon in the .exe file find out which using a resource hack tool. But it's usually 0 or one of the first ones, so simply try it out a few times. The two midlets I have come with their own icon displayed in the manager, and I found this file as a PNG image inside the Application Data directory, under Tao and then ever deeper down you'll find it.
But using png as icon didn't work for me. I'm guessing it needs to be converted to ICO or even BMP. Haven't had time to try that out yet.
And for the last part of your post, these are the cool midlets I'm using
Opera Mini - http://opera.mini.com (You obviously know this one)
MidpSSH - http://xk72.com/midpssh (Excellent freeware SSH client)
works with newmenu by saman as well thanks for the tip.
btw any more cool midlets for ppcs? the only thing i have so far is opera :|
I noticed the shortcut only works if you've run the applet atleast once. Otherwise only Midlet Manager opens up. Not really a big deal though
Question?
Is there a way to do this with IBM's Java Midlet Manager. I tried the syntax listed here and it doesn't work. It opens up the midelet manager, then closes right away.
BTW, this thing is case sensitive. I tried GMail and it didn't work.
This is for Gmail. Copy paste and enjoy.
46#"\Windows\jmm.exe" -r"Gmail", "Google", "Gmail"

The answer to your question is HERE
You have to thank the author of the article and the great Menneisyys for posting the link in this post
Bye
(Hopefully) final MIDlet Bible main feature & hack & standards compliance chart published!
It was yesterday that I’ve published a larger excerpt from my forthcoming MIDlet Bible (a full roundup & tutorial explaining what MIDlets are, why you would want to run them, what applications there are to do this etc.), focusing on mostly 3D games. I haven’t been lazy in the meantime: I’ve made some serious updates to the main feature & hack & standards compliance chart of the Bible. The reason I’m posting it as a preview is pretty simple: it will still take me some two or three days to completely finish and, finally, publish the MIDlet Bible. In the meantime, however, you can already check out the new chart. I’m absolutely sure you’ll find it useful if you’re into gaming or running probably the, after Opera Mobile, second best Web Browser for Windows Mobile, Opera Mini 4 beta 2. Or, alternatively, the really unique and useful Gmail MIDlet, which is far more usable than any other Windows Mobile mailer tool.
I’ve, as has already been stated, greatly enhanced the previous version published over a month ago. I’ve added discussions of ClearType / font smoothing, automatic network connection, proxies, text input fields / areas etc. and I’ve even published the source code (!) of some of my test MIDlets I’ve written specifically for these tests. (I’m a Java pro.)
The chart is HERE, should you want to check it out before I, finally, publish the MIDlet Bible.
Comments are REALLY welcome!
Try this:
60#"\Windows\jmm.exe" -r"Opera Mini","Opera Software ASA","Opera Mini"
my opera mini link works great using jbed and the permissions fix, BUT...
I want to know if it is possible to make a link to a page (favorite/speedial #1) within opera. I have some shortcuts for PIE (default browser) on my today screen and wondered if I could do the same with opera pages without opera being my default browser. I have seen some shortcut creators that look interesting, but I am not sure about what path this link would need.
Any ideas?
thanks

I can't get my Opera link to work using jbed, where do you get the permissions fix... maybe that's my problem?
I'm using:

jbed permissions fix is at the bottom of this page...

Does anyone have this working with the ne Opera Mini 4.1? Latest Jbed.
hey can someone turn this into english for me haha sorry. i wanna get opera 4.1 shortcut into launcher. im not good at this stuff unless there is a step by step for dummies
I downloaded the latest 4.1 and it works great... Because I downloaded the new version before I deleted the previous version, I had to change my shortcut to point to r1 not r0. The new version has permissions fix already added I believe.
Everything is working brilliantly
You wan't a link? Here is it:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...7F-D875-47D5-B226-E2578A116E12&displaylang=en
Look at the end of the page for the down loadable versions.
But remember, you have to register.
Thought this may be of interest to someone.
Other versions available too!!
Just been on this and had a nosy around.
There are other versions available for download too, for people who just want some of the functionality hobbyists/students etc
I'm just downloading some now <visual c++ and visual basic> along with the windows mobile SDK look's like i'm gonna have to try and do me own data recovery prog lol
Re: Other versions available too!!
And full version is available on p2p networks for a very long time...
Just trying to give an alt to P2P file share.
Good evening! I just released the source for my very own slimserver client for windows mobile! (I was very frustrated as I couldn't find any free/open source ones out there).
This is the first release ever, and hence very very basic. Thus, I have only released the source, and no binaries..
It does work, and it does satisfy my current requirements, so I don't plan on spending a lot more time on it. If you want to see it evolving to meet your own needs as well, please do help, by donating your time and coding skills
In order to make it work , you will have to manually edit the libslim\core.cs file with your slimserver details.
There are no GPL notices, nor attributions in the files yet for the various pieces of code that I used. This will change soon!
The scrolling list control is called Kinetic Scroller, and I found it on this forum. Many thanks to dosfan for releasing the source to that excellent and extremely usable control (I did some minor changes).
I found what was the basis for SlimXML somewhere on the web, I don't remember where. Many thanks to the developer In order to compile it, you might need Visual Studio 2008.
You will also need SlimServer version 7 beta installed, as the previous versions do not provide any CLI functionality for browsing the music folders
https://sourceforge.net/projects/pslimclient/
Nice..
This sounds great. Currently I am using the handheld skin and mplayer. It works but a real client would be sweet. The only problem is I don't think I can get a C# compiler. Do you know of a free one or would you be able to get me a binary? I'm running duttys 6.1 on a at&t tilt.
Thanks and good luck with the project.
