Change Bluetooth name of Wizard... - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

HAya guys and galls...
I'm wondering if it is possible to change the Bluetooth name of the Wizard in something else than the Owner name of the Wizard.
I want the info on Owner Information to be different than the bluetooth name.
Don't want to be in a place and someone starts shouting my name because I have bluetooth on, now what I mean?
Is there a registry entry witch you can edit to change the bluetooth name?
I tried a search on XDA, but couldn't find it...
Thanks for the advice....

actually there is, i don't remember where, but it does not matter at all, because when you change it to your own value, after some time it will revert back to 'owner name' again. i don't know why i when it actually does occur, but i gave up with it...

Okay....
Tnxs for the info...
Anyone got it working though?
Or is it impossible....
Anyone???

afaik the BT name is the same as the ActiveSync device name.
You can change that to anything you like.

I'm afraid thats not the case..
My activesync name is not my bluetooth name..
As a matter of fact, I want the activesync name to be the same as the bluetooth name, that's why I want to change it....
My bluetooth name is the same as the owner info name....
But maybe you can tell me if you know of a registry key that makes the bluetooth name the same as the active sync name?

No one got a clue
There must be some way
Please....can someone help me
Hope so!!!!

not sure if this is what you mean but to change your bluetooth name go to start/settings/about/device ID and change your device name to whatever you want.

I was wondering how to change this also. My wizard is a T-Mobile USA MDA, and it shows up as "Pocket_PC" in the bluetooth scanners no matter what I name the Activesync connection or the device.

Try to pair the device again, may be you haven't set your device name in the first pairing. Bluetooth will not get the name again.
water

Yeah, I see it now. It shows up at my owner name, not my device or activesync names.

That's exactly what I mean...
It isn't the activesync name that is displayed..
Anyone got an idea to help us?

Nobody??
Does nobody have an answer for us?
No one knows witch registry key to edit?

i wanna say that the bluetooth name would be the owners name.
i changed my device name and thats what it comes up as in Activesync. im testing it now.

Hi all,
Bluetooth(BT) name and ActiveSync (AS) name are two completly different things:
How to change AS name using WM5 (think it is the same in previous versions):
Settings -> System -> About -> Device ID -> Device Name
How to change BT name (WM5):
change the registry key - HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\Settings\LocalName to the value you want
hope it was helpful

Does this keep the Bluetooth name until a hard reset occurs? Someone implied that it reverts on its own after a while.

that's right, but somehow, after some time (i couldn't work out when exactly) it turns back to 'owner name' value.

Hi,
I've had this for a long time and it never changed on its own.
As for hard reset, yes it does change to default setting if you hard reset it. but i think it's hard , if not impossible, not to do this.

Tnx
That's what I was looking for!!
Changed it, now lets see if it changes back sometime...
Thanks for the feedback....

What ever question i have, it seems someone has already answered it. I've had my wizard for 4 days now, and i love it, now its been fiddled round to working the way it should. Does anyone know of a small app that will allow me to alter my bluetooth name as and when i wish?
Or do i have to change the registry each time i want to change it?

is there a way to change my bluetooth name? it always displays the owner's name.

I always find that changing the Device ID changed the Bluetooth name.
Go to Settings|About|DeviceID
Device ID
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\Settings\LocalName
it doesnt work. still displays my name on bluetooth.

Soft reset your Xda II after saving the changes you have made in the LocalName.
You will not see the difference in your Device ID in Settings but receiving devices will.
There is another way to change the default name but I have forgotten where it was exactly in the registry. I will try to recall and look for it when I have time.

This is a "feature" of the MS Bluetooth stack. You can try something like Jetware as an add-on if you really want to change your BT device name...

I installed Jetware but I can't find any option to change the bt device names?!
I haven't tried it myself, but I had read that somewhere listed as a feature...
Okay, I found the solution:
You have edit the Registry-Key LocalName (String Value):
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\Settings
Perfect.
This post should be included in the Herme's registry tweaks as soon as possible.

it's already there
Yesterday I've already answered this here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=280121
but was told there is an official way...
Note, that, as I wrote there, the value in the registry is rewritten every time you make a change to the owner's name.

Changing Bluetooth device name

For me it was the Owner Name, and I failed to find an official way to change it. I've found it in the registry under HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\Settings, string LocalName.
The bad thing that it is changed every time when the Owner Name is changed. So I've put it into my script with registry values that don't survive reboots (ClearType for landscape, PIE cache size so far).
Did I overlook the official way, or should the above go to wiki registry hacks?
If I understand you (and remember correctly) your phone will report it's what ever you have set as the device name over bluetooth. To change that Go Settings -> System -> About -> Device ID
There you can change the Device Name. That's all I've ever done and whatever I put in there, when I'm searching via bluetooth is what shows up
I have a Russian version, but if I understand you correctly, Settings -> System -> About -> Device ID has two fields: device name (default is "WM_Administrat1") and a description. The device name appears e.g. in the ActiveSync window. I don't know where the Description is visible. Neither of them is shown as the device name on other devices via bluetooth (e.g. in Bluetooth Neighborhood in Widcomm drivers on PC).
Or, is there a setting that was lost during translation to Russian? Could you please post a screen shot of that setting?
I think it's tied to the owner name, if you want it to show something else you need to change a registry or use a 3'rd party program. Do a search here you will find both, there is a new bluetooth program that was posted here yesterday haven't tried it yet you can check it out.

unfortunately it seems to be a common bug (or feature?), as i had same problem back with HTC Wizard. BT name changes back to owner name even when owner name is untouched. well, i can live with that, but i'd prefer to have different BT name...

Problem with WiFi

If I press wlan button in Comm Manager than WiFi should be ON but it is not. I did use some different roms but still nothing. Somebody know what to do ?
settings-connections-wireless lan - there is only message:
Wireless LAN is OFF.Turn on Wireless LAN.
It does not work. Please help me.
Go back to wm5. If your lucky it might come back. The more I dig through here the more I see people with wifi problems after flashing. You might be out of luck
HOWEVER
I noticed under WM6 the bubble that pops up when you click on the wifi tower ALWAYS says 'turn on wifi'
Good luck!
Same problem with my WI-FI, Not working please help!!!!
Hi All. I am facing the same problem with my WI-FI as Vomithaus is having. Whenever I try to to connect to WIFI from Commmanager, it tries to and then to show disconnected. When i go to settings> Wireless LAN, it asks me to "Configure Network Adaptors", and lists all the adaptors and going into them asks about the ip settings and stuff like that. By the Way I Bricked my phone once and then i flashed with T-Mobile Ship WM6.0 RUU for the WING. And I strongly suspect that the registry setting are not right or the Radio ROM is F***ed up. Can any knowledgeable person help me please? I would greatly appreciated any help.
Same problem with my WI-FI, Not working please help!!!!
This is the addeneum to the last post. The last remaining screenshot for the above post. The last screen shot of the "Wi-Fi Status" in the "Settings > Connection", gives me an option to "Turn on Wi-Fi" but toggeling it results in nothing. Thank You everybody for your time and consideration.
It might help us to figure out how this happened too. I bought the EXEC off of ebay and it was like this from the get go. The previous owner flashed it to wm6 about 1 month ago, but said it was working fine... all he did was hard reset to get rid of the personal information. I want to believe him, but there are a few people on here complaining of flashing the exec and losing wifi. (even the official rom from O2).
Flashing COULD have damaged the transmitter, but it seems more likely that a setting is wrong somewhere (especially since there is a slider bar for WIFI battery vs performance).
This is good news (somewhat), but the bad news is that if there is one, no one knows about it. I have messed around in the registry (there were some promising entries related to POWER), but nothing that even showed a response. I found the entry that connects to the slider bar, but PERFORMANCE = zero, so there is nowhere to go there but WORSE.
This really sucks, is all I can say. I blew $500 on something that is useless (well... not useless, but no WIFI? WHY COULD IT HAVE NOT BEEN BLUETOOTH!)
Another step I have taken is contacting PPC Tech's via email and asking them if they have any idea how to repair it, and how much $$$
I'll keep you informed.
Can you tell me if yours EVER worked, and if so, when it stopped?
I just looked closer at your screenshots.... Do you have a WIFI card? (it say's 'adapter').
No, I dont have a WIFI card but this is way how windows handles all is peripherals (services), as an add-on card. just like you laptop.
Guys, There is a registry fix for this problem.
Please take look here :

Ron
I am afraid Ron that this is not a case as suggested in Beowulf6's solution. If it is the solution I dont know how to exactly implement it. But I am posting here the exact registry key screenshot for you guys to take a look also. I can't see and TNETWLN1 or TNET12345 key here in my device. I still think it has to something with the registry. Can any one here with a T-Mobile WING verify and post their screen shot? or maybe send me a registry backup to compare with? It would be really grateful it some does that. Thanks everybody for a few seconds to read this.
In my herald i can't see TNETWLN1 or TNETWLN12345 too.
I did use Mobile Registry Editor for that , what you guys are useing?
(sorry for my English, if you dont understand me just tell me please)
Look at the screenshots, there a Reg Folder with the name WLAN, open it, and then open the key with all the numbers and letters. At the end of that line is a code. TNETWLAN1 is what it should be for the Herald.

It is like Bio88 says.
You are already on the right track... click on WLAN and you will find the key.
Change the value of the key into TNETWLAN1
Done

Hi Please look at my screen shot again clearly. I did post what is inside the WLAN folder. There are only two keys :
1) (Default) \Windows\ctlpnl.exe
2) CmdLine cplmain17
I still can't figure where is the key with numbers and letters. Sorry If I am a bit dumb or wrong. Thanks.
it is possible if you use the default Commanager that you dont have this registry key.
I dont know if it helps if you create it on your own.
but for me where i installed a different commanager, the Key was there and i edited it for the wlan button.
My Tmo Wing has "TIACXWLN1" in that registry key.
Do those changes apply to the herald and the Wing interchangeably?
