Has anyone come up with a fix so that the GPRS is back to being always on as it was in the original 1.03 ROM? I have read some posts on this on other sites, but I have not found anything here. I assume that I have everything set properly, but the GPRS has to be started every time now.
In general I do not feel that the 1.06 ROM upgrade did much of anything to enhance my device, and quite frankly I wish I was back to 1.03, however, I have heard that a new ROM upgrade will soon be released and I bet that one or I hope that one will provide some real value and fix things.
I've posted this in another thread, here's the quote:
Here's a solution I've done to my XDA II with T-Mobile GPRS problem. I don't know who came up with this solution, but thanks to my friend who suggested this at PDAMobiz.com.
1. After a hardreset and completing the initial screen alignment, interrupt the auto-installation process by softreset your XDA II (you have 3 seconds before the files in Extended_ROM will automatically install).
2. Make your Extended_ROM viewable, whether by using the Extended ROM Viewer from http://www.ppcw.net or Extended ROM Switcher (sorry I forgot the link).
3. Now, install each cab files, except TMD_AP_NL.sa.CAB. In fact, I also disregarded, Caller ID, and some other TMD stuff.
As a result, the GPRS is now always-on as it should be.
Cheers,
Thank you for responding to this post. I had to wait quite awhile.
Your #3. states to install the cab files and disregard the TMD files. Did you delete these files or just not open them? What are these TMD Files for?
I assume that I cannot, at this point and without a hard reset, just delete the TMD Files that are viewable in my Extended Rom. Is this a correct assumption or could I accomplish the same goal by just deleting those files?
Thank You

Yes you need to delete does file from Extended_ROM and hard reset it.
Or hard reset, quickly soft reset after you finish the screen calibration, run the extended_rom viewer and manually open/run each of the cab files except the mention cab. ( basically follow exactly what jopard said ).
I read also somewhere in this forum that someone did a differrence search on the registry between GPRS always on and GPRS off when idle. With this method you can change the setting without hard reset.
Hi, the mentioned cab installs the following registry key (among others):
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings]
"CacheTime"=dword:0000003c
"SuspendResume"=hex(7):\
69,6e,74,65,72,6e,65,74,00,00,00,00
I guess it must be the SuspendResume setting. Can you post your setting without applying the cab file?

This is my setting running my own cook 1.60.06 skiping that file:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings]
"SuspendResume"=hex(7):7E,00,47,00,50,00,52,00,53,00,21,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00
"CacheTime"=dword:00000258
And yes my GPRS is always on.
Hm, I'll try that, but I had another problem:
When I was always GPRS-connected my GSM-connection was always lost
after 12-24h. The device showed that it is connected but I could not dial out and I could not be called.
Now since I am not "always on" anymore I do not have this problem anymore.
Did you experience something similar?

Is there a way to do this without hardrestting? It just took me two hours to load all the program into XDA. Can I just hack the reg?
thanks

My rom does not even have this cab in the ext file. Can I hack it in the reg?
I have XDA II 1.50WWE ROM

I think you will find that many carriers have a "timeout" after several hours of non use.

SuspendResume
What does this look like in the registry:
This is my setting running my own cook 1.60.06 skiping that file:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings]
"SuspendResume"=hex(7):7E,00,47,00,50,00,52,00,53,00,21,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00
I have PHM Registry Editor, and entering the entire string does not look like a meaningful option.
Is it a REG_DWORD with a base of HEX ?
Regards
Michael
I use resco registry editor you can just import in that registry.
I found another post regarding this issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=26866
I'm afraid I do not understand how this thread has evolved.
I understand the posts that speak to the hard reset and softreset within 3 seconds to keep the device ROM applications from loading. From there to install fix for viewing extended ROM files and then load everything except TMD, and perhaps some of the T-Mobile apps you do not want. Although the response says a specific TMD file and some other TMD-no specifics, all or some?
The balance of the thread seems to speak to radio settings.
Is it being said that you can change some settings on the radio stack and get the GPRS always on? If so how do you do this in reasonably simple terms?

Nonintrusive Keep-Alive
The intrusive solutions are enticing to me but they are for "developers". From a user's point of view, I am always worried about doing something and then not being able to restore it to the original state (or having to spend a lot of time to get back) should something go wrong. My bandage solution (unique to my use situation) is to open an ssh or a telnet window and run a shell script which loops to print the current timestamp and then sleeps for 5 seconds. A T-Mobile tier 2 tech guy told me that the disconnection was by design for the benefit of network service providers so that they can save on connection resources.
By the same token, I like the Keep-Alive application solution - I think it is worth my $2.45 (See thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=5220). I wonder if the to-come T-Mobile Windows PPC 2003 comes with some sort of control that is equivalent to the Keep-Alive application - in a matter of a month or two, supposedly.
Well this is kinda of a dumb question but i find it .... well necessary to do
Is there a way to change on the magician the device name for BT ? other than having the Owner name stay as the BT name ?
Thanks

Registry
There's actually a registry fix, works fine.
Check it out.
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\Settings]
"LocalName"="WhateverYouWant"
Try playing with it, see if it works 4 u.
maybe i didn't understand the question but if changing the name of the device while other people search for you throw BT is what you want:
Start -> Setings -> System -> About -> Device ID
HAya guys and galls...
I'm wondering if it is possible to change the Bluetooth name of the Wizard in something else than the Owner name of the Wizard.
I want the info on Owner Information to be different than the bluetooth name.
Don't want to be in a place and someone starts shouting my name because I have bluetooth on, now what I mean?
Is there a registry entry witch you can edit to change the bluetooth name?
I tried a search on XDA, but couldn't find it...
Thanks for the advice....

actually there is, i don't remember where, but it does not matter at all, because when you change it to your own value, after some time it will revert back to 'owner name' again. i don't know why i when it actually does occur, but i gave up with it...
Okay....
Tnxs for the info...
Anyone got it working though?
Or is it impossible....
Anyone???
afaik the BT name is the same as the ActiveSync device name.
You can change that to anything you like.
I'm afraid thats not the case..
My activesync name is not my bluetooth name..
As a matter of fact, I want the activesync name to be the same as the bluetooth name, that's why I want to change it....
My bluetooth name is the same as the owner info name....
But maybe you can tell me if you know of a registry key that makes the bluetooth name the same as the active sync name?
No one got a clue
There must be some way
Please....can someone help me
Hope so!!!!
not sure if this is what you mean but to change your bluetooth name go to start/settings/about/device ID and change your device name to whatever you want.
I was wondering how to change this also. My wizard is a T-Mobile USA MDA, and it shows up as "Pocket_PC" in the bluetooth scanners no matter what I name the Activesync connection or the device.

Try to pair the device again, may be you haven't set your device name in the first pairing. Bluetooth will not get the name again.
water
Yeah, I see it now. It shows up at my owner name, not my device or activesync names.
That's exactly what I mean...
It isn't the activesync name that is displayed..
Anyone got an idea to help us?
Nobody??
Does nobody have an answer for us?
No one knows witch registry key to edit?
i wanna say that the bluetooth name would be the owners name.
i changed my device name and thats what it comes up as in Activesync. im testing it now.

Hi all,
Bluetooth(BT) name and ActiveSync (AS) name are two completly different things:
How to change AS name using WM5 (think it is the same in previous versions):
Settings -> System -> About -> Device ID -> Device Name
How to change BT name (WM5):
change the registry key - HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\Settings\LocalName to the value you want
hope it was helpful
Does this keep the Bluetooth name until a hard reset occurs? Someone implied that it reverts on its own after a while.

Hi,
I've had this for a long time and it never changed on its own.
As for hard reset, yes it does change to default setting if you hard reset it. but i think it's hard , if not impossible, not to do this.
Tnx
That's what I was looking for!!
Changed it, now lets see if it changes back sometime...
Thanks for the feedback....
What ever question i have, it seems someone has already answered it. I've had my wizard for 4 days now, and i love it, now its been fiddled round to working the way it should. Does anyone know of a small app that will allow me to alter my bluetooth name as and when i wish?
Or do i have to change the registry each time i want to change it?
I've seen a HTC-made animated launcher in another topic.
The prog can be downloaded at http://rapidshare.com/files/55485726/HTC_TOUCH.rar
Some forum mates have successfuly installed it, but the big problem is that the prog is in Chinese...
Would anyone try to make an English version of it?
Thanks in advance!
cheers,
English Would def. be nice this thing is pretty sweet and easy on the memory
Really nice application just tried it.
Works wonderfully, hope someone can make an english version.
not working for me (mda compact/wm2003)
Bumping this because it takes the least amount of mem. and is very fast please someone see if they can fiddle with it an get english working.
Just a little help from my friends?!... (Joe Coker)
cheers,

Well i like it very much and it is sort of working , but no english , looked in the app folders and the registry but i cannot recognize what to change so i removed it
Hopefully someone can translate it because i find it very usefull
Nice Launcher
Hello,
I was able to install it ion Hermes (WM6) and runs smoothly.
I dug into it and by trial/error I was able to delete/create new shortcuts for system setings.
For some obscure reason I was not able to assign any new applications.
Can anybody who owns a Chinese enabled device, try this and maybe help us understand the menu/options?
Thanks.

*additional info:
You might've noticed, there're 2 number delimited by comma in every shortcut. Eg. Bluetooth, the 2 numbers are "23,0". The first number is the id for Bluetooth, while the second number is the tab's id. If you open up the bluetooth setting, you will see 3 tabs: Mode, Devices, and COM Ports. 0 is for the first tab, 1 is for the second, and so on. So if you wish to open up Bluetooth and point straight to the Devices tab, just change it to "23,1".

tried to install to my Wizard, it just shows up with "Installation of HTC Touch.cab was unsuccessfull"
Anyway, thanks.
Just use the original cab to install the app, and copy this xml to \windows\.
I also tried to make a cab with just the replaced xml and kept failing.
BTW you cannot use "&" in the xml else the app fails, so you cannot launch the picture viewer now, you got to change it in start menu, or make a direct link to it.
ATM translating the exe but can't read Chinese, but succesfully translated some random text.

Should make some modifications in exe/dll files too. The application is trying to access \Windows\“开始”菜单\程序\ folder instead of \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\
That should be changed to be able to use the full functionality of the program, and it is not in XML file, unfortunately
Cheers
A resource hacker is a no-go, if you want to change specific strings you can't run the app anymore.
I already figured out what's doing what and how I should translate it, but it's just no use.
dev's homepage?

This is a partial translation, install the original cab, and replace the exe and xml from both this zip and the one I posted earlier.
Sometimes I had to come up with funny translations as the programe would else crash, thus cancel became no, custom icon just icon, and provider became net.
Other parts I couldn't get working in a right way so are still as they were.
Maybe someone else can translate it better.
Since I got my HD2 I have found that a real gripe has been the inability to select where incoming files received via Bluetooth are stored.
By default the HD2s' own Bluetooth File Transfer setting stored it in "My Documents". No matter what changes I made to this, I could never get it to save to my Storage Card. I even tried installing the brilliant (and always essential on my older HTC devices) ObexInbox software, which made no difference at all on the HD2.
In the end I trawled through the registry and eventually found the key which controls the location of the incoming "bluetooth-ed" files.
\HKLM\Software\WIDCOMM\BTConfig\Services\0003\Root
Change this key from whatever it is set to to your new location (in my case this was \Storage card\Bluetooth Inbox )
Voila! - incoming files over bluetooth now get stored where I want them to!
If anyone else was having the same problems I was, then this should help you out!
BT Manager -> Settings -> Advanced -> File transfer
You can choose the path here, and it will actually change the reg value you mentioned. BUT, it still saves received files in My docs...
If I tick the box below about using storage card, it will save to the card root. Already a small step...
