I thought i had a bug in the system, but apparently it's a combo of software.
When i wake the device (8125 fwiw) I get a 1cm 'cover' over the rightmost part of the task area up top. It's annoying because it is covering up my signal strength and clock. sometimes it comes back, most times not. The icons are still clickable, but they re invisible.
I am running omap speedup, magic button (killed it, didn't change anything), using the registry wizard tool - nothing crazy. I tried setting omap speed back to factory - no joy.
Sometimes, if I play around a while, the 'coverup' goes down to 1/2 cm so I only lose the volume icon. No matter what, whenever an app calls for an OK or X icon in the upper right, those do show up.
ARRGH.
I did a full hard reset and reloaded my apps, now this issue is still with me. Need some help figuring out which app caused it - otherwise, it's another hard reset and very careful restore. (the sloppy one took 2 hours)
thanks all!
Yeah i have this too. It was fine UNTIL i did a hard reset and now its gone weird.
no solution
a bit of addtional info... if I turn on the clock to always show time on the title bar, it never shows up - even when the little cover up is gone for that short moment, it still has no time visible.
Anyone?
I may have fixed my own problem. Found this note elsewhere...
In the Registry go to:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell
If not exist make a key TBOpt (Binary Value) and set the key value to...
0 = no time or date
1 = time
2 = date
3 = both
Even though mine was checked 'on' in the settings panel, it was set to 0 in the registry. This seems to have fixed it (I set it to 1).
Cheers!

For some reason my device has suddenly started switching to the minimum backlight setting whenever it's switched on. If I go to the backlight settings and then adjust the slider it will stay at the selected brightness until it switches off. When it switches back on again it's at minimum brightness and I can hardly see the screen!
This started happening after I installed and then removed PocketZenPhone.
I don't really want to hard-reset the device unless I absolutely have to - does anyone know what registry key sets the default switch-on brightness?
Thanks,
I dont have the solution but I have had the same problem intermittently. Can be really aggravating in the dark because it can be hard to get to the proper screen to increase the backlight. Hasnt happened in a while. Have not been able to figure out what triggers it. Have not installed PocketZenPHone. Curious if anyone has an explanation.
yah, i've noticed this to, sometimes i'll hit the power button to take it off standby and the backlight would be off. first couple of times it scared the hell out of me cuz i thought the screen had broke or burnt out.
also i noticed the version of spb pocket plus i'm using (3.04 build 4195) doesnt adjust the backlight brightness.
Now that you mention it. the SPB Pocket plus backlight does not work for me either. Strange...
Well I think I've managed to "fix" this by setting the following;
Backlight Settings:
On battery power, turn off backlight if device is not used for [5 min]
Turn on backlight when a button is pressed or the screen is tapped
Power Settings
On battery power: Turn off device if not used for [3 minutes]
I think the key thing here is to have the device auto-switch-off BEFORE the backlight timer kicks in. Since setting the above three settings I have not had the same problem again.
Ill give it a try as well.
Hmm...maybe someone can help me. One day, my backlight timer settings when the PDA's not plugged in reset to 10 seconds (in the registry it has it as 7 seconds). I'll go in and change it to 2 minutes (the original setting I had it at), but the minute I turn it off, it resets back again to the 10 seconds setting. I even tried going into the registry and changing it, and it resets it back to 10 seconds. I suspect it may have something to do with an entry in the "scheduled tasks" but it looks like a complete mess. Is there some kind of scheduled tasks cleanup utility?
Thanks,
Q
hello i have the same problem using phothet with WM6
Thanks
Nicolas
I had the same problem often about 15 months ago - it happened often each day.
I posted herw but had no joy with a solution - but then found one on Modoco (i was looking about March/April 2006).
Even with that - it has still done if perhaps five or six times since - and basically makes the phone unusuable if it happens somewhere or time with poor light.
My KJam backlight keeps changing by itself to dark
Suddenly my KJam backlight always turns to low without me doing so, then I have to change it to high, barely can see what I’m doing as it is almost black. This is kept happening especially after I installed Pocketweather. I reinstalled the Rom, it worked fine then suddenly it is back again when I switch the screen off, or automatically it is switched off, the backlight slider I find it at the lowest end.
Why thus is happening, it’s driving me crazy, please help me
ok, i was playing bookworm yesterday (like i always do when i travel) on my 8125 and i had to soft reset because it was stuck in phone mode again and wouldnt go back to the today screen and now my top bar is messed up!
when it restarts, there is a blue box in the top corner and it doesnt go away!
it no longer shows the little X in the right corner and my time is gone too. the biggest problem is i dont know how much reception im getting now either! what happened?
anyone else experience this? if yes, what did you do to fix it? im seriously considering flashing to the 1.6.7 Qtek ROM once i get my mini SD card.
help!
Not sure about the OK/Close button, but the rest seems reminiscent of the date/time display option being set to zero. You can fix this through a registry hack, or through an application that applies the registry hack.
To set the date/time display on the task bar to show just the time:
Code:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\TBOpt = 1 (DWORD decimal)
hm...took me 2 soft resets afterwards but i think that did the trick. thanks!
i think it might have something to do with me having magic button on startup too.
Hello
My tytn require a quite large amount of time to wake up and I was wondering if I was the only one in this case.
It may require from 2 to 4 seconds to recover from standby; I tried to phone myself and it took about one or 2 "tuuuut" (sorry, no better english translation for that word =)) before the phone began to ring; this is quite anoying because I have to answer very fast in order not to miss call.
The virtual keyboard used for inputing the code is also getting on my nerv; most of the time it start with the landscape layout (without any reason) and it take 2 sec to adjust to the portrait layout; during that time it is hard for me to input my code correctly because the size of the key is changing.
So, 2-4 seconds for waking up plus 2 seconds for keyboard adjustement is in my opinion quite slow. Am I the only one experiencing this? Are there fixes out there?
I also have some trouble with notification; it wake the device up! If the device is not password protected (only after 15 minutes on my phone) it start most of the time PIE (because of the hardware button). All this lead so to my second question: Is there a way not to wake up the device (at least the input) in order to avoid unwanted press on the hardwares buttons.
Thank you in advance !

Settings -> System -> Key Lock -> When device is off: "Lock all buttons except Power button"
Thanks for your fast answer, i ll give a try!
Concerning the screen orientation issue I found out that it is related to the HTC case magnet.
EDIT:
In fact it was already configured like this; the device is not waked up by the hardware buttons, but by the notifications.
if you use the key lock you can avoid unwanted key presses. As for wake up times. I don't think anyone who has this device wants to admit that it takes to long cause they paid sooo much for it. However, I will admit that it does take a long time to wake up. I am comfortable saying this because its much like a turbo car, at first its not as fast as most naturally aspirated cars (turbo lag), then it blows their doors off. So it takes a couple seconds to wake up, then its faster then most other devices.

Agreed. Coming from standby I get two rings of the "Old Phone" ringtone before it goes to voice mail.
I am hoping that new firmware will resolve this issue - my wizard was certainly more responsive when i presses the poer button to bring it out of standby. This is furthur delayed by the fact that i keep scabbling around the top of the device for the power button insted of the side!

This doesn't help with the particular problem. What I think fun_key is trying to say is that whenever he gets a notification (for example when he gets a new sms message or a notification for a meeting) the phone will come out of sleep mode, so the key lock setting for "when device is off" won't be in effect. Instead the device will be powered up and accepting all keypresses, like the IE / Messaging- buttons, not to mention any presses on the screen.
I too find this annoying, and wish there was a way to make the phone go back to sleep after showing me a notification, instead of waiting for the default sleep time to go by. There are programs out there that have this functionality (for example MortSaver) though, so my advice would be to use those.
- Pud.0
thank for the mortsaver ip; i ll give a try!
Have exactly the same problems as fun_key (power button, keyboard in landscape, etc), and I suspect most of other people do. The wizard was definitely more responsive.

I've found a solution to the problem regarding the length of time before a call is missed (this is probably known by most people, I only found it after tinkering with the settings):
Start>Settings>Phone>Services(Tab). Choose Call Forwarding in the list, then click Get Settings. Change the 'Forward After' setting to a higher number. I changed mine to 25 seconds. Problem solved for me!

Hi team
I have the same issue, every time i turn my hermes on after its been off for more than say 30seconds it starts in landscape mode then switches to portraite mode, its driving me mad, at least i now know i am not the only person. maybe this will be fixed in the next rom update, fingers crossed aye
UPDATE: i also found this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286552&highlight=standby+landscape
does anyone have any thoughts on his comments?
I actually think that the reply in the thread i posted above is correct,
My Hermes is an IMATE JASJAM (same thing of course) and i use the original belt holder that came with it, it has two (2) magnets in it to keep the cover shut, when ever i get a msg and i pull it out of the case (turns on automatically to show me the msg) its always comes out in landscape mode.
I turned my phone on and passed the cover with magnet side down over the phone and sure enough as i did that the screen changed from portrait to landscape mode, thus confirming its the magnet that causes it and not a defect with the phone.
Hi,
Phone Lock on my HD2 is set to ask for password if phone is unused for 15 minutes. But my HD2 ask for Phone Lock password each time the screen goes off. Is it possible to change this behavior?
I have the same problem. The phone lock is set to 24 hours, but if the dispaly goes off and i power it on the hd ask for the phone lock password, too.
Can someone help?
Usually if I don't want the phone to lock, I just set the screen not to turn off at all. Under settings, display etc.
HI,
i want, that the screen is locked but only with the slider. At the moment i slide to unlick and then i have to enter the phone lock passwort. But this password should only appear if i restart my HD2 (for this reason i set the phone lock password option to 24 hours).
with my "old" HD this works great.

Strange, does this fix work for everyone else?
After I installed it, once I press the power button to shut the screen off, when I press any of the hardware buttons, it dumps me to the screen that I was on, but no longer asking me to swipe. I guess I'm looking for the fix so that the below behavior happens:
1) If I press any of the buttons before my "timeout" happens, phone should ask me to swipe my finger to "unlock" the screen.
2) If I press any of the button after the "timeout", then phone should ask me to swipe but then also ask me to punch in a PIN or complex passwd, depending on the setting.
Are there any registry hacks that can do what I described? or does it do exactly that and it's my particular phone that isn't working?
thanks!

Having been interested in exactly the same thing, it seems like this cannot be done at present. The lock is either there with a password or not there at all. My current compromise is to set a one digit pin, but that's a bit pointless really.
The slider can be added with S2U2 but this seems to defeat the object somewhat...
I have the same problem. I'd like to be able to lock the device (or at least to turn off the screen) without typing the password at each unlock. I set it to 24 hours.
The patch should be fine as temporary solution
Password lockout problem solved
Great,
this has solved my problem that intermittently and usually overnight I get 'incorrect password message' when I try to unlock, only solved by a soft reset which is rather worrying.
I don't want to have autolock, especially every time I switch on and off like you all.
This little add on allows manual lock (by setting widget on screen with SPB mobile shell), and I have set default to 12 hrs for password screen.
Many thanks
Rory

Ha! Think that's worrying? ...You're right.
I had this a few times in the past and each time was able to solve it by a soft reset.
Not the last time, though. After trying numerous soft-resets, I finally saw no other way out than to hard-reset my device. In the end, it didn't even display the "incorrect password" dialog anymore. I suspect I had entered an "incorrect" password too many times, but the device did not manage to present me with the "enter a1b2c3" prompt that it usually does when that happens.
Very, very frustrating. Some quick googling gives a few reports of this happening to other people, not just on HTC handsets either. Not too many though, so it sounds like it's pretty rare.
(For the record, running 1.48 WWE here, had a 7-digit simple PIN set as the device lock password, with Windows Default display)
i have the same problem it asks for password every time i unlock the phone and the bad thing is that sometimes even correct password doesnt seem to work so that i have to soft reset or wait for half an hour b4 trying the password again , just confused about it . australia
i took out my password for now. i have to reset once in 2 days now to unlock phone. i wont be able to make a call in case of an emergency so better option take it out.

Is there any fix for this problem yet?
with S2U2 you can set up a password config. (require password every: 5mins/15mins/1hr/ 4hrs or 12 hrs) S2U2 seems to eat my battery up though, thats the downside. also you have to download the "disable autolock" cab for it to work from the tweaks an mods sticky in themes/ apps forum. its a shame about the battery drain as this app is awesome but definately worth a look.
sorry heres linkhttp://s2u2.ac-s2.com/
Same problem and no answer until now ?
I also have the problem that I cannot configure my HTC HD2 that the screenlock works without PIN. I like to start the secure lock only after a certain time i.E, but there is only the way everytime with PIN or at anytime with PIN.
Sometimes mostly overnight the device "forgets" the correct PIN and I have to make a softreset. After done this , I can enter the oriinal PIN.
Is there no solution until now ?
Is there any idea what to do.
Read tip 27 of the Sticky Tips and Tricks - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638 - then the PIN will only be required after the timeout, not every time you lock the screen.
The bit where it doesn't accept the password is a known bug reported elsewhere, but there's no fix yet; I wish there was, because I get it occasionally.
Resolve screen lock issue by editing registry
Enable/Disable the Exchange security policy – HKLM\Security\Policies\00001023: 0 = Enabled; 1 = Disabled
Inactivity time
HKLM\Comm\Security\Policy\LASSD\AE\{50C13377-C66D-400C-889E-C316FC4AB374}\AEFrequencyType: 0 = No inactivity time; 1 = Activity time enable
HKLM\Comm\Security\Policy\LASSD\AE\{50C13377-C66D-400C-889E-C316FC4AB374}\AEFrequencyValue: number of minutes before timeout

Until the buggers push it out again and you get fed up of having to set a PIN then edit the registry every day
Incidentally, is there a way to lock the screen without a PIN after a set period of time? All I can find is either a manual lock or a lock with a PIN.
Slidelock & pin code every time driving me nuts!

I made these exact reg edits (my very first registry edit!) and it's made no difference at all, my HD2 still asks for pin every time I switch off & on.
I want to keep the slide lock to prevent accidental button presses when device is in my pocket, but the pin input is a pain my previous device only asked for it once every 24 hours or after powering up the phone. Has anyone solved this yet?
Should I change the registry back to pre-edited?
Disable hardware buttons
I realized one thing that is draining my battery is the accidental press on hardware buttons when my hD2 is in my pocket. Is there a way to disable the hardware buttons other than the end/power button when the screen is turned off ? It is silly that the press of any hardware button turn on the screen ...
Anybody knows the new registry setting to make the screen NOT turn black during a call?
On my X1 it was fast dormant setting but this is not there in the X2.
the registry key is HKLM\Services\MultiService\mods\Proximity\ SmartProximityHW
value is 1 for turning off display and 0 for leaving on.
Thank you!
Did try but does not work. It still turns the screen dark while on the phone during a call. Very annoying!
Perhaps you or somebody knows How to Wake the Device with ANY button press. Again was selectable with X1 but here its now (perhaps because no soft buttons?) but there must be also a reg setting.... hopefully.
For anybody that is annoyed by this black screen too........ I found the setting to at least delay this blacking out for a loooooong time if so desired:
under: HKLM\Services\MultiService\mods\InCallPwr ... set to 5000 or 50000 as I did. It is probably seconds before it turns dark. Setting was 5 (!) and it turned off in 5 seconds!
There are 2 settings, FirstTimeOut and Second. I changed the First! And later the second.... just because!
The main setting with InCallPwr setting 2, cannot be changed. I cannot delete it. This key will be recreated after restart. If somebody knows HOW to delete / disable this key, then we don't need to change the delay time
