Hi,
Phone Lock on my HD2 is set to ask for password if phone is unused for 15 minutes. But my HD2 ask for Phone Lock password each time the screen goes off. Is it possible to change this behavior?
I have the same problem. The phone lock is set to 24 hours, but if the dispaly goes off and i power it on the hd ask for the phone lock password, too.
Can someone help?
Usually if I don't want the phone to lock, I just set the screen not to turn off at all. Under settings, display etc.
HI,
i want, that the screen is locked but only with the slider. At the moment i slide to unlick and then i have to enter the phone lock passwort. But this password should only appear if i restart my HD2 (for this reason i set the phone lock password option to 24 hours).
with my "old" HD this works great.

Strange, does this fix work for everyone else?
After I installed it, once I press the power button to shut the screen off, when I press any of the hardware buttons, it dumps me to the screen that I was on, but no longer asking me to swipe. I guess I'm looking for the fix so that the below behavior happens:
1) If I press any of the buttons before my "timeout" happens, phone should ask me to swipe my finger to "unlock" the screen.
2) If I press any of the button after the "timeout", then phone should ask me to swipe but then also ask me to punch in a PIN or complex passwd, depending on the setting.
Are there any registry hacks that can do what I described? or does it do exactly that and it's my particular phone that isn't working?
thanks!

Having been interested in exactly the same thing, it seems like this cannot be done at present. The lock is either there with a password or not there at all. My current compromise is to set a one digit pin, but that's a bit pointless really.
The slider can be added with S2U2 but this seems to defeat the object somewhat...
I have the same problem. I'd like to be able to lock the device (or at least to turn off the screen) without typing the password at each unlock. I set it to 24 hours.
The patch should be fine as temporary solution
Password lockout problem solved
Great,
this has solved my problem that intermittently and usually overnight I get 'incorrect password message' when I try to unlock, only solved by a soft reset which is rather worrying.
I don't want to have autolock, especially every time I switch on and off like you all.
This little add on allows manual lock (by setting widget on screen with SPB mobile shell), and I have set default to 12 hrs for password screen.
Many thanks
Rory

Ha! Think that's worrying? ...You're right.
I had this a few times in the past and each time was able to solve it by a soft reset.
Not the last time, though. After trying numerous soft-resets, I finally saw no other way out than to hard-reset my device. In the end, it didn't even display the "incorrect password" dialog anymore. I suspect I had entered an "incorrect" password too many times, but the device did not manage to present me with the "enter a1b2c3" prompt that it usually does when that happens.
Very, very frustrating. Some quick googling gives a few reports of this happening to other people, not just on HTC handsets either. Not too many though, so it sounds like it's pretty rare.
(For the record, running 1.48 WWE here, had a 7-digit simple PIN set as the device lock password, with Windows Default display)
i have the same problem it asks for password every time i unlock the phone and the bad thing is that sometimes even correct password doesnt seem to work so that i have to soft reset or wait for half an hour b4 trying the password again , just confused about it . australia
i took out my password for now. i have to reset once in 2 days now to unlock phone. i wont be able to make a call in case of an emergency so better option take it out.

Is there any fix for this problem yet?
with S2U2 you can set up a password config. (require password every: 5mins/15mins/1hr/ 4hrs or 12 hrs) S2U2 seems to eat my battery up though, thats the downside. also you have to download the "disable autolock" cab for it to work from the tweaks an mods sticky in themes/ apps forum. its a shame about the battery drain as this app is awesome but definately worth a look.
sorry heres linkhttp://s2u2.ac-s2.com/
Same problem and no answer until now ?
I also have the problem that I cannot configure my HTC HD2 that the screenlock works without PIN. I like to start the secure lock only after a certain time i.E, but there is only the way everytime with PIN or at anytime with PIN.
Sometimes mostly overnight the device "forgets" the correct PIN and I have to make a softreset. After done this , I can enter the oriinal PIN.
Is there no solution until now ?
Is there any idea what to do.
Read tip 27 of the Sticky Tips and Tricks - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638 - then the PIN will only be required after the timeout, not every time you lock the screen.
The bit where it doesn't accept the password is a known bug reported elsewhere, but there's no fix yet; I wish there was, because I get it occasionally.
Resolve screen lock issue by editing registry
Enable/Disable the Exchange security policy – HKLM\Security\Policies\00001023: 0 = Enabled; 1 = Disabled
Inactivity time
HKLM\Comm\Security\Policy\LASSD\AE\{50C13377-C66D-400C-889E-C316FC4AB374}\AEFrequencyType: 0 = No inactivity time; 1 = Activity time enable
HKLM\Comm\Security\Policy\LASSD\AE\{50C13377-C66D-400C-889E-C316FC4AB374}\AEFrequencyValue: number of minutes before timeout

Until the buggers push it out again and you get fed up of having to set a PIN then edit the registry every day
Incidentally, is there a way to lock the screen without a PIN after a set period of time? All I can find is either a manual lock or a lock with a PIN.
Slidelock & pin code every time driving me nuts!

I made these exact reg edits (my very first registry edit!) and it's made no difference at all, my HD2 still asks for pin every time I switch off & on.
I want to keep the slide lock to prevent accidental button presses when device is in my pocket, but the pin input is a pain my previous device only asked for it once every 24 hours or after powering up the phone. Has anyone solved this yet?
Should I change the registry back to pre-edited?
Disable hardware buttons
I realized one thing that is draining my battery is the accidental press on hardware buttons when my hD2 is in my pocket. Is there a way to disable the hardware buttons other than the end/power button when the screen is turned off ? It is silly that the press of any hardware button turn on the screen ...

ScreenLock is a very small and handy tool to turn off a PPC's display, and lock all the hardware keys, including power button. It'll keep your PPC alive even without any program running. It'll help you to save battery power while streaming or downloading big files, or playing music.
To turn on the display and release the lock, just press on the left most hardware button (first button) and the right most hardware button (forth button) simultaneously. Only these two buttons are pressed down together can unlock your PPC.
I can't unlock the screen.....The left most hardwarebutton must be the Startmenu button... and the rightmost must be the OK button.....?

I've found the perfect application that locks my device! 1-pass from Omega One! It does exactly what I want

1-pass does not pass!
i've been looking for a similar app for ages so downloaded the trial of 1-pass.
After 15 minutes of trying to get it to work I've given up and uninstalled it. Problems I encountered were:-
1) tapping my soft key password did not unlock the machine, it just sat on the 1-pass security screen (there is no enter key to tap after entering the soft key password).
2) activesync claimed the password was incorrect and refused to connect.
I changed password several times, studied the help file and the support web pages but found nothing to help.
Maybe I was missing something, but if I have to spend more than 10 minutes and 3 resets to get something working on my xda II then its not worth keeping it in my opinion.

I'm not sure, but I think you don't have to enter the password. You can just assign the password to the button combination.
According to the help, to enable activesync to connect, you must enter the soft key password. Also I don't remember seeing the option of not assigning a soft key password in settings.

GREETINGS!
It is worth keeping in, if you get it right.
After first installation you get the screen like " Wecome to 1-pass....." wherein you had to feed the hard keys password. The next is "Retype hardware key Password.....", then comes the"Enter backup password", retype it and comes the screen "Thank You the password have been successfully changed. I think this can be done by going to >Start>settings>1-Pass, and then change password.
If the password is not accepted then, any of the two will let u enter the setting.
As far as active synch is concerned, it only accept your backup, softkey password.

Hi all, if you try the following...
1. Click 'Device unlocked' on the Today screen so it changes to 'Device locked'
2. Turn device off / wait for it to go to sleep
3. Turn device on / wait for something to wake it up
...the device has unlocked itself, correct or is it just my Xda Mini S?
So how are we supposed to lock the device properly from accidentaly screen taps -- a problem I keep encountering?
Also, is there any way to add a timeout to the device lock, so if the screen isn't tapped for 5 mins, it automatically locks (assuming we actually make the lock feature work in the first place!).
My K-JAM used to do this all the time.
I never actually worked out the exact cause, i have a feeling it may have been caused by software i was testing when i 1st recieved the k-jam.
It stopped doing it altogether after a recent hard reset.
Sorry i wasnt more help.
Cheers
Chris
the device lock wasn't made with these systems in mind... it's intended for smartphone devices which don't have a 'suspend' state - let alone a button you can push to put it into, and bring it out of, that state.
If you want a free, proper locker, put the following in your today-screen-app-launcher of choice:
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=14621
This'll 'lock' even the on/off button (immediately 'locks' again if you try to turn it back on, or shut it off (by holding down the on/off button - as you need to confirm by dialog)).
On the down side, it'll also turn your display off.
To unlock, on the Wizard, you need to press the Messaging (top-left, front side) button and the Voice Dial/Memo (top-right, side) button at the same time.
That lock/unlock feature on the Today screen is pretty crappy actually. I locked my keys religiously. And half the time, I would pull my phone out and it was on a webpage or on my email... and I never opened them.
I'm hoping they fix this...
-Mc
Well it's ridiculous that O2 etc. keep the function enabled by default on the Today screen of their units, if the feature is for Smartphones only! But then, there's a lot of things O2 don't understand about the world but don't get me started on that.
Warning! Do not use Screenlock!
Warning: I think this program just killed my Wizard. Don't install unless you know the risks.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=212261#212261
People, please don't recommend software on here that is not tried and tested on WM5.0.
On my Qtek 9100 it works. The only button that doesn't lock is the power button. Accidental tap of the power button will turn the screen on. You cannot even press and hold to power off when locked. When phone comes back on it stays locked.
I have been using this application for a while now - but I think the warning for installing sofware goes for all software. Who is to say that SPB doesn't install something that 'phones home'? Or that Mort Script doesn't cause irreperable harm to the registry stack when using its registry functions?
I've had no problems with it, but I guess I'll continue in your other thread.
I also can't just quickly tap the on/off button. Sure, it goes on - but it then immediately goes off again as well.
Thanks. What happens if the device crashes or you soft reset whilst the screen is locked? Does it reboot unlocked with the screen on? I wondered if mine had somehow locked completely, so the screen is off when it reboots ...but that wouldn't explain no LEDs working either :?
I don't know about crashes but, with some reluctance - admittedly, I tried the soft-reset (pin button at the right) while the screen [w]as locked...
...the device switched off, switched back on, booted up, and displayed my Personal Info screen.
So... no problem there, sorry :/
Well I have my replacement Mini S now. Any other programs than ScreenLock that do this? I'm sure I found once, but I can't find it any more :?
I couldnt get screenlock to work on the ppc6700, but mortsaver worked just fine, you might want to try that.
I'm perhaps misreading this, but the device locking seems to work ok for me on my XDA Mini S. Once I've locked the Mini S the only way I can use it again is to unlock it - if I touch the power button or let it go standby itself, when I touch the power button to wake it up, it remains locked. Also, if I hold down the power button for five seconds or more the Mini S will not give me the option to switch off entirely.

Hi John,
Do you have a Device Password setup? ( Start > Settings > Personal > Password > [x] Prompt if device unused for... )
I find that when
1. Device Password is enabled
2. you lock the device
3. you press the device on/off button (goes to standby)
4. you press the device on/off button again (goes back on), the device is unlocked.
When Device Password is disabled, and you then follow steps 2-4, the device remains locked
In my experience this is true [it sort of makes some sense you can't type in your password with the device/screen locked].
it would make sense if...
A. the password dialog would actually pop up (note that if you turn the device off/on manually, before the password prompt timeout, the password dialog does not show up)
and
B. they would first show the unlock screen and -then- the password prompt
The password prompt facility effectively overriding the unlock screen is just bad software design.
well put zeboxx... i wanted to say something in those lines but couldn't articulate them properly [ended up with a it sort of makes some sense jibe...]

Anyone have a solution for this? I have my Wizard go to standby after a short time and always make sure it is in standby when I put in in my case. However, when I receive a call and pull it out of the case, I almost always press one of the buttons. So when I answer the phone I have the camera going, contacts open or the connection manager open. I use all the buttons so I don't want to disable them completly. I wash there was a way to disable all buttons except the answer button for like 5 seconds after a call starts ringing. Or, be able to set buttons to not activate unless pressed for 2 seconds or so. Or, require 2 presses to activate. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
Turn on the password (4 digit one is fine) and set to 0 minutes, the phone will "lock" as soon as you go into standby but when it rings you will be able to answer with the red/green buttons but nothing else until you put in your password.
Thanks, I will give that a try. I used a password before but it slowed things down so much that I removed it. I have done quite a bit of optimizing since then and will try it once more.
it does slow the use, and gets annoying (i still use it) but it does work until i find a decent app to do it. All it really needs is 2 touches or 2 buttons to unlock but not found anything yet... \
I have solved this with litle less work .I have Device lock Bar on the top, under date , so you need twice down and middle buton to lock the
device.
device lock doesn't seem to play well with the password application. if you have password activated you can do a device lock but when you put your device on standby and bring it to full power it is unlocked. if you use device lock without password it works.
any solution to lock keyboard during a call ? i always active some functions with my ears(...) when i speak
starseb - switch your phone to stand-by mode... the radio (phone part) should remain on, and you can continue calling. Then just switch it back on when done ( or not %) )
sorry for my english, but i make i make a mistake. i would say how to lock screen during a call.

Try christoph's deltaLock map it to a hw button then set it to be unlocked by the same hw button.
Whenever my phone goes into standby mode, or when I manually put the phone into standby mode by briefly pressing the power button The phone is unresponsive to any other key press or screen taps. I have to press the power button again to get it out of standby mode. I am using a usa T-Mobile MDA with the 1.08 rom. The only today plugins I have installed are magic button, rlcalendar and powercheck. Is there w way to fix this? It is kinda annoying.
take a look here..
start / settings / buttons / the lock tab at the bottom /
there should be three options, if you have the top one checked, then only the power button will wake your phone up.
hope this helps

I prefer it like this as it means you don't have to rememebr to 'lock' the phone before putting it in a case/pocket/bag to stop accidental turning on/dialing.
I've asked a similar question in a different thread... but does anyone know how to prevent the buttons from becoming active when the device automatically re-starts itself? e.g. when it's in my pocket, I don't want the keypad suddenly activating when a text message notification appears on the screen. Do I have to lock the keypad manually to do this?

Yes - when the phone rings the phone you are able to answer, but once you hang up the password is requested.
Hello All,
I've just got my self a HTC touch HD and am very happy with it. I've moved from a Nokia N95 and have a couple of questions regarding locking and unlocking the Touch HD.
What I would like to do is
1. lock the touch pad with a time out or on demand when Im not using it.
2. Have a password lock set on the device on demand.
I can do number 1 if I dont put a password on the device lock but If I do then I cant do 2.
They way I am used to using the Nokia is I often want to lock the device with a pin.. e.g over night so no one can snoop.
If I set the PIN device lock, I have to set a timeout value but I can't do it on demand. Even if I set it to 0 minutes, it locks after a while which is annoying.
What I have done at the moment (until I find a better solution is) to set the PIN lock to 0 minutes and unlock it every time it locks when I have it on the desktop. I've also managed to get SU2?? to give me the slide touch screen lock. Not really what I would like....
So my question is... Is there any apps out there that can let me lock my deevice with a PIN on demand and also let me lock the key pad / touch screen without a PIN on demand?
Second query is regarding profiles. I would like to set up 2 profiles, I which has a phone ringtone and a sms message alert and a second profile which has a ringtone but no sms alert tone. I can't seem to set this on the Touch HD. Any one know how I can do this.
Any response will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
You can set the "end call" soft button to when you hold it down to either "lock" your device or bring up a quick menu for you to choose if you want to lock your device, turn on flight mode, end data transmissions etc.
Hope this helps

If you go to Start/Settings/Personal/Lock you can set the phone to automatically lock after a period of time.
You can also go to Start/Settings/Personal/Phone/PIN/PIN2 and set a code for when the phone is first turned on to prevent thieves from using your phone.
