Dear everybody,
I have also killed my 2 day old MDA compact 3 by using the PDAMobiz_Dopod_P800W_AKU301_v1.1.2_PowerMap.exe (Feel really frustrated about it)
It will not load windows only
IPL 1.13.0001
SPL 1.13.0001
GSM 02.49.90
OS 1.28.0.0
I've tried a lot but nothing has worked so far. Now my last resort is using XDA tools to make a bootable sd card.
Is there anyone who make a file that the artemis can use of an SD card?
I would be very much obliged!
did you do CID unlock before installing new ROM?
CID unlock is not required for flashing the PDAMobiz Powermap 1.1.2 ROM. Just make sure you follow the right instructions. I did it and you can find it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294830&page=2
But make sure that you have synced your Outlook data on desktop as there is something wrong with restoring from backup file the PIM related info (I use Spb Backup, but seems it is same with any backup application)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=295295
more info.
ianvanhaaren:
1. Please provide more info what exactly happens when you try to turn on your device.
2. What type of error you have when you try to re-flash device? At what percent it stops.
3. Connect device to USB, disable USB connection in activesync. Start mtty console, choose USB type connection (mtty attached, in case you need it).
4. type set 32 in console. send this output.
If CID area on device is corrupted, for the moment only imei-check who knows how to re-calculate this area. Even so, if device won't boot in windows it will not help. You need to connect to device thru jtag interface, in order to load modified spl into ram and perform writing into security area, to recover it. Imei-check says, they know jtag for Artemis.
It may cost you a bit of money.
If you have an option to send it to service center, do it. It would be your best choice.
Regards.
Hi, I searched a lot on forum and found a way for flashing from sdcard in Hermes forum.
There for i took a RUU_signed.nbh file copied to the fromated SDcard
- renamed it to HERAIMG.nbh (similar to HERMIMG.nbh on hermes forum)
--> and put the phone in bootloader
--> it starts searching sdcard
AND THEN
--> a processbar appears and it says "Checking SD contents"
BUT
--> "Invalid Certificate" - press any key.
So there must be a way to flash from SD card.
I will try different RUU and tell more.
Someone wanne help?
It must be named
"HERAIMG.nbh"
then it stops on white screen saying: Checking SD contents
But i got
Invalid Certificate
AND when it is an official .nbh extracted from RUU_xxxxx
it stops for 5sec on
"Checking SD content"
but the processbar doesn´t change and then it goes to bootloader without changing anything.
????????????????????????????
I will test this method too, i saw some flash of SD hen going into bootloader mode, did'nt know there was an option like this i will post my experiences
I tried these two RUU nbh's:
- RUU_Herald_HTC_WWE_5.4.405.1_4.1.13.34_02.79.90_Ship
- RUU_Herald_HTC_WWE_1.8.405.1_02.71.90_Ship
I've firtstly formatted my SD card, then copied NBH file's to my SD and named them HERAIMG.nbh.
Both times there was only a statusbar that did not proceed loading, and my continues in bootloader after 3 seconds...
Also got the Invalid Certificate error when I copied the WM6 nb of ASerg and renamed it to HEARIMG.nbh.. what is this certificate? and can it be edited in a way so we can flash??
Talking about unbricking anyway, can Herald users use Platform Builder?? i read in a thread that you're phone has to have KITL, but i don't think the Herald has KITL.. Can anyone who knows for sure please tell?

The .nbh are "signed" os files. you can generate these fiels by "nbhgen.exe" but i didn´t get it to work with an RUU - it allways says "image is corrupted" because it only contains OS.nb
when you extract an RUU_signed.nbh out of the RUU_xxx.exe it contaisn splash.nb, os.nb, extrom.nb, spl.nb etc.
That´s the certificate = the singend nbh
So that won't be an option I guess... too bad
but does the Herald have KITL in bootloader mode? if so, you could use Platform Builder to unbrick your phone.. that would be very very sweet.
And what is this mtty thing? should be some funky stuff to

MTTY never worked for me - but that could be my system. And KITL - i don´t know what this is. sorry.
I sent it to O2 and hope they will repair some minor bugs and also the booting problem.
Little thready about unbricking a Hermes with KITL + Platform Builder:

Hmm i'll have a look around to find out what this mtty thing does..
btw: KITL = Kernel Independent Transport Layer, it is the windows ce kernel debugger interface
Is there anyone continueing papamopps' solution to unbrick Herald?

That´s not right. For unbricking a XDA Terra we still need a soulution.
The Terra IS NOT the P4350!!!!!
And the RUU updates are for P4350 (and in some cases for VPA compact)
But not for terra - we have to wait for an O2 update....
Vendor Id
I have a Vodafone CID(?) locked bricked HTC P4350.
Using the HTC updates I cannot unbrick my phone, because it keeps saying "Invalid Vender Id".
This unbricking with flashcard could be a solution for me.
I already try with official rom, but my herald is still brick, i can not syncronize the herald with pc to run the official rom.
It is freeze in inicial boot with HTC logo.
help, please anyone....
You can't simply place the rom file to the card and hope the device will read it in this way. In my time working for pda service, we used WINHex to format the card (to RAW-unformatted) and then we wrote the rom file in RAW format to the card. Your card looks like an endless stream of hexazecimal values. Only winhex recognises this format, if you insert the card to the computer, it will simply ask you to format it. After inserting this card into the pda, it will start the upgrade . The order of this operation was, as I remember, to fill the card with 0000 values (there is an option in WINHex, a kind of format) then write the rom file to the card in RAW mode. Then insert the card to the device.
Another way was to use MTTY, connect the pda to the computer (PDA should be in bootloader), open MTTY and connect with the device. ActiveSync should be killed before this. In MTTY in the terminal window write "set 14 0" then remove the data cable, then close MTTY, reconnect data cable then run the RUU.
These methods worked on HP Ipaq's wich we were repairing in our service center some time ago. I don't know if it works for herald or htc products because their RUU has a different way to register with the device.
Dears,
wdata command can write data to P3300. It is possible to use this command to upgrade ROM and get around the CID lock?
If so we can make a RUU program to flash anything into ROM.
Is this pssible?

Of course its a good idea but I think the process is much more complicated. The update proccess depends not only on ROMUpdateUtility but also depends on the Bootloaders security. If the bootloader does not open the port for entering data, no data can be entered so no ROM update can be done. Bootloader opens the port only when the CID in the ROM file maches with the device's CID and the Signature is intact. Thats why we need USPL that does not check CID and Signature.

I thought IPL won't check CID lock for wdata command. So I guess we can use wdata to flush anything into ROM (a clean, pure WM without any headers)
And we don't use ROMUpdateUtility but write an application to directly deal with the USB port on bootloder.
The purpose is to save hundreds of bricked phones. The current SuperCID program doesn't work with bootloader mode!!!
Anyone can tell me what address the Artemis OS begins with so that I can make the USB applicaiton to try to flush OS to the ROM address?
great!!
I think POF can help you

I dont think so, the SPL is like a bodyguard. To be able to write to the flashROM, some ports should be opened (enable write mode). Only the SPL can enable write mode, and it is very stubborn. Every time an application tries to write to the DOC, it asks for the CID and Signature. If these info do not match with the ones inside the DOC, it will refuse to enable write mode. You can fool it with CID but you cannot fool it with Signature unless you can imitate the signature and use it to sign the ROM file.
So the problem is how to imitate the signature or to extract it from a signed one.

First, sorry for q on first post and no introduction.
Basically, im male, so didn't rtfm until I got stuck...CID Locked device...botched WM6 upgrade...blah blah...bootscreen...blah...you know the score.
This thread has piqued my interest though. I am a programmer with quite a bit of experience of embedded devices. I figured that there is some way to do something like this...but not really sure how as documentation is a bit thin on the ground!
What does the wdata command actually do? My understanding is that it copies arbitary data into the devices address space...but where from? We have a dst and len, but what is the src?
wdata [Len [StartAddr]]
I assume that the flash-rom is simply mapped into linear address space.

This is what I thought as well that the flash-rom is simply mapped into linear address space. But I don't know where it sits and which segment is for IPL,SPL,OS,EXTROM. etc...
And I am not sure if the IPL will secure the ROM write when it execute the "WDATA" command.
Here is the introduction for WDATA command
wdata [StartAddr Len]
Write data to memory(if write to ROM, need erase first).
StartAddr : Start address of memory.
Len : How many bytes will be written.
Length must not more than 0x10000 bytes(buffer limitation).
Write to RAM: 4 bytes(CRC checksum limitation).
1 byte(in user mode).
Write to ROM: 4 bytes(CRC checksum limitation).
2(16-bit)/4(32-bit) bytes(in user mode).
Write to ROM(16-bit data bus): 32 bytes(writebuffer mode).
Write to ROM(32-bit data bus): 64 bytes(writebuffer mode).
Length must be 4 bytes boundary(CRC checksum) if not in user mode.
After command execute, then send out the data to terminal.
Data format: HTCS(4 bytes)+DATA+checksum(4 bytes, if not in user mode)+HTCE(4 bytes).
Also please check this URL
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-285112.html
Pay atttention on this
Write data to memory(if write to ROM, need erase first).
"If write to ROM" This means the ROM is for sure being mapped into the memory space. And what important is that WDATA doesn't talk to the IPL on any CID information. This possibly means that IPL won't stop a write to ROM.
So it is worth to give a try here. The information we need before make the USB application is:
1) Where does the ROM start inside the memory address space
2) Where does the OS start and end
3) How to erase the ROM before WDATA (Another USB command but what is it)
Actually, if we know where the IPL starts we could even directly flush the IPL to Pof's superCID. But this is a little dangerous becasue it is possible to crash the IPL ROM so that the Artemis even can't start bootloader. So better not do it but to flush the OS only and make the birck start first. Then use Pof's baby to flush the SuperCID.
OK, long post. Hope we can have more experts in this thread. Thank you folks for your attention on my topic.
Hi everyone,
I offer you a safe way to recover your bricked ipaq or just change language into English.
I use the lastest official english ROM download on Hp website.
I saw some members have the ideal to patch the ROMupdate.dll to bypass the check the language of the phone ipaq 61x.
It means that we can update the phone with any languages.
I do exactly the same with Ipaq 91x.
So I upload the file for you.
Just download, extract and run hpRUU.exe
Follow the instruction and after about 20m.
You have the phone
P.S: I used this method to change my phone language from Italian to English successful. And recovery my friend's bricked phone.
But notice that I'm NOT responsibility for any damage with your phone.
Good luck
Download the rom here
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?jyzy00y2yal
Good job, thanks!
Will try it out later!
is it still compatible even though my device SKU IDs is not compatible with the update?
Last time i tried i almost bricked my device.
In theory, yes
Actually, like I wrote above.
My ipaq 914c is Italian version.
It means that the SKU IDs of the phone is not not compatible with the update. ( I mean the official update!)
But we all know that there is no difference in the hardware between the ipaq 91x.
So any language ROM versions can be used on the another ipaq 91x phone.
=> WWE ROM can be used on any Ipaq 91x phone.
My Ipaq now is in English. But the SKU IDs still show that it's in Italian.
By the way, I forget to thank: Z!L0G80.

Hi,
As it was given like that, I think you should check the usb cable. Sometimes the cable is not working well. I use the original cable, because the last time I use another there was an error when it was flashing. (I'm not sure if the active syn is necessary. In my case, I have the active syn on my laptop. XP enviroment.)
If you want to try the SDBootloader you can find in this forums some instructions about cutting some bytes to obtain the flashdio.nb0
But I really don't recommend that way. Because the last time when I find the way to change the language by flashing the english Rom following those instruction. My phone was bricked. So I tried to find another way.
And this is it.
I think this method is the safest way for newbie. As I wrote above. The first time I bricked my phone. But I did the same procedure again. And it worked.
Just check the procedure again.
Good luck,
For the SDloader update (Which works very very well on my German 914c):
download the file below (I already cut the first 3432 bytes from it), put it on a newly formatted SD-card (not SDHC!) and hold down volumeup+OK button (the one on the right side) while pushing the reset button, hold the mentioned sidebuttons until you see SDloader. Then wait for a few minutes, and the update will finish!
If the updater does not find the file, you have to re-format the SD-card to either FAT or FAT32!
Rename the file to FLASH.DIO when you copy it onto the SD-card!

Hi Everybody,
@vdragon
1- what a great job, guy!
2- in reality, i have already flashed your ROM successfully for my ipaq 914c, which is a native italian version. Since the incompatibilites of different versions were resolved perfectly.
3-Grazie tanto di nuovo
I'm pretty new with this and I've been trying to update my 910 with original ROM but for some reason it gets stuck and the only way to bring it back is with a SDLoader I downloaded from here but that one is very simple and I'd like one with all the programs.
Is there a way to load yours on it through the SD card?
you can follow the instruction to cut the 3432 bytes and flash your phone with SD card.
I see that many people prefer to use the sdloader method than this one.
But the positive point of this method is that it updates all your firmwares include OS, WAN, Radio... to new version. Not only OS.

Yes it is true!
Using vragon's patched Updater the following is updated:
OS (=ROM)
Bootloader
Pre-Bootloader
Radio&Modem
This update takes about 20minutes, so be patient, do not remove any cables during update!
The flashing of FLASH.DIO with an SD-card "only" updates the OS (=ROM) and is done within less than 10minutes.
Thanks vrago for patching the Romupdate.dll!
You can also see it in the bootsplash screen. Before the update (even after SDloader updates) it always showed FW 1.04.
Now it is 1.09 - and yeah, it works GREAT and quick!
I can recommend it!! (I do not take responsibility though)
Should be a sticky!!
I've been trying this file, and I get an error at 51% of update. Any ideas?
I think it's about your cable. Be sure that you use the original cable with the anti-noise hub.
If you didn't success the first time. Try it again.
Do as you did the first time.
And just be patient. Don't move anything.
The first time I used this method, at the middle of flashing, I kicked my cable and it just stopped. And I did it again carefully.
So that's it
Actually, I think I figured it out. It seems that Vista treats USB partnerships differently than XP, so after a certain amount of time, it "refreshes" the relationship with the USB device. If you are trying to flash your phone, that stops the flash/update.
I just used my XP system, and it worked fine. After a few registry tweaks for ring volume and battery life, it's working fine.

I'm positive the SD Loader method isn't as thorough as this method. This method takes 20 minutes or so, and you can see that it's updating the pre-loader, modem/radio, etc. The SD method only updates software.

Hy vragon, i have used your method to upgrade my device 614c (and not 914) from an original Italian ROM. All process is ended correctly, all upgrade are finished without errors.
The update utility has made the update of that:
Software - From Version - To Version
Bootloader - 1.00.07 - 1.01.01
Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional - 1.00.07 - 1.01.01
Pre-Bootloader - 1.00.07 - 1.01.01
iPAQ WAN Radio Firmware - 0.81.00 - 1.09.00
But after the upgrade, at the end the display was black(not really black i can see the leds of the entire display are ON but das not appear nothing), and after some minutes abouth 20, i removed the battery and restart the device but nothing has changed. The led over the screen and the sound working.
I have try also to do a hard reset with a flash.dio on an SD card inserted to replace the Rom, but dose not work!
The device after that will work properly, and das not appear to have any problem.
CAN SOMWONE HELP ME !!!
@ilconte81:
just go to hp site.
find a ROM update for 614c.
download it.
using winrar to extract everything in the exe file.
copy the ROMupdate.dll from my file to replace the file in the folder which is extracted from exe file.
run the rom update again.
Tanks for reply vragon,
i have tryed to do what you wrote, but the device will not be right recognized from the OS (will appear USB device not recognized) and the update utlity after a long time in "Plese wait while the device state is verified" give the comunication error Code 402, Cannot comunicate with device.
I use the original cable and try these on different OS like Win XP and Win 7.

But to switch it back from DIAG to ZUNE, as you've said.. the USBtool.exe
has to be execute manually. I just wait maybe someone could found it how.
It's was really hard to find the single micro memorycard reader in my place.
I already try to use the multi/all in 1 mmc reader.. it wont work to
flash using goldcard technique because it seems like the phone keep searching
which one it should read from. so i manage to create my goldcard using flash
thumbdrive 4GB. and it works perfect with me. So now.. I have no worried to
flash any rom. except it was not develope for WP7. lol~

Please let me know when you've done.
thanks!
were you able to resolve this?
if it does not have the needed mode switcher app, can someone kindly create a custom rom with the needed app(usbmodeswitcher.xap)
Thanks
the problem is that we cannot flash that rom until we have HSPL or SSPL...
no chance to resolve the problem yet :-/

The good news first: We now have RSPL/HSPL (thanks to Cotulla and DFT)
The bad news: Nobody made a ROM which contains the USBSwitch-App :/
I hope that will change
