Universal simcard problems - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi all
I've just changed mobiel provider from Telmore to Unotel in Denmark and I'm having some trouble with the new simcard.
The simcard I got from Unotel is not recognized in my Exec. There's no real error message. The phone app just reports: "Invalid or missing SIM card"
I've had some communication with Unotel support and they claim the problem is in the Exec not accepting simcard with lower capacity.
Their simcards is 16k.
Unotel can not provide me with a higher capacity card so I was wondering:
Has anyone else had this problem and is there a cure?
Telmore and Unotel both use TDC's gsm/umts network.
I've had not problems with my 32k Telmore simcard and the 16k Unotel card works fine in my SE K700i.
Kind regards
Asbjørn

your phone is sim locked

No I'm afraid that is not the problem.
I can use other simcards from different operators without any problems.
It's only the 16k Unotel card that causes me problems

Had exactly the same problem, had to change from CBB to "3" to solve it.
Nothing wrong with your phone.

I was hoping that it didn't had to come to switching operator one more time.
Since it's properbly a general problem with the Universal and low capacity simcards I was hoping someone (smarter than me) had encoundered this problem and solved it.
Or at least is able to confirm the problem is just related to 16k simcard and doesn't have to do with a special coding or something like that.
This way I can confirm with a new operator that it will not be a problem.

Provider lost

Hello,
I have lost my provder It worked well but now I when I start my XDa it found no service.
I'm on bouygues france.
If I go to phone->network selection->manual I only see Orange or SFR.
If I try my sim card to another phone it works.
If I try a orange sim card on my XDA it works
I tried to ard reset, re-flash Rom and Radio stack ...
It seems that my XDa doesn't know any more Bouygues as a possible network.
If someone knows how I can add Bouygues as a network

Well, I don't know the MDA I, but on an MDA II there is no way to exclude a network from being found in the Manual Selection dialog.
When you say it works with an Orange SIM, do you mean it also finds Bouygues? If yes, then we can assume that the hardware is working well.
If not, then on which frequencies (900MHz/1800MHz) do these networks operate? Could it be that your phone developed a hardware problem in the RF part so that it can only work on one of the two frequencies?
It also puzzles me a bit that you say your SIM still works in another phone. Otherwise I would have said that Bouygues blocked your SIM by mistake.
Did you try only in one place? There might be the vague chance that the base station you normally use has a defect and is offline. The other phone you tried may have a better RF part and be able to log into a more distant base station, but the MDA may not. Okay, this is a very long shot, but it may be worth a try...
If you didn't do anything to your ROM before the problem appeared, then I very much doubt that it's a software problem.
Sorry I couldn't help more.
Daniel
I'm confuse too.
If I put a sim card (the bouygues sim card or the orange sim card) on another phone (nokia fo exmaple), ask to select manually the network, I can see the 3 provider in france (Bouygues, SFR, Orange)
If I put a sim card on the XDA (the orange or the bouygues), ask to select manually the network I see only Orange or SFR ... no more Bouygues !!!
So I think it is not a sim card problem but a XDA problem ..? But I hard reset it !
I run out of ideas ..?
 I found !
My phone was turned to 900Mhz Band ...
Whereas Bouygues uses 900/1800Mhz
I changed it in the bootloader and it goes well

Weirdest Problem Ever..

I have this weird problem with the JJ. I have 2 SIM's with 2 different Operators. The JJ works just fine with one SIM .....
BUT, when I insert the other SIM, I can make calls normally, but I can receive only ONE call (i mean it, ONE), after that the damn thing won't receive calls anymore! (Like the phone is turned off or unreachable)
After trying to make calls for several times it does work, but again, one incoming call and that's it.
I tried that SIM in the 8800, it works just great.
Anybody has an idea on what's going on?
Thank you guys..
PS! I did post this in another topic, but needed some attnetion from you guys, so posted it in a new topic!
It is SIM free btw ..
Come on guys, 80 views and not a single reply.
I need to you that SIM in the JJ.
Could it work by a Radio upgrade or something?
OK, please tell us which version of ROM and radio stack you have.
Sure,
ROM 1.30.69
Radio 1.09.00
Thank you Richard.
the reason there are 80 reviews and no replies is cause nobody knows.
this is an anomoly, way out in left field, that I have never seen ever in all of the forums.
1. get a new sim card
2. get a new sim supplier
3. stop swapping them, and use the one that works
4. take the phone back under warranty and have them fix it.
Tried a colleagues sim card with the same operator and the same happened.. unfortunately there are no other sim suppliers.
the reason i want to use this sim in the jasjar is that my corporate email doesn't work with the other operator, there is some routing problem to our email server.
but why this sim doesn't work properly while the other does. its really confusing.

Throw this thought in.....
Could some settings relating to the "phone" usage be stored in the universal's registry that conflict with the other SIM card thats being used. Are both cards UMTS?
Matt
Here is a thought, Is the SIM with corporate e-mail the one that is not working? I have a T-mobile account with Blackberry BES and a Cingular account, two different SIM cards. Both work fine but the TMobile card will not work all the time with the blackberry connect software I have loaded up on my Exec. I called TMobile and they reset my "LOCAL Data" from thier switch and now it works fine.
Your carrier may have to reset some things for you to get your card working again. Just give them a ring and ask them to help you sort it out.

No they aren't ... I tried to hard reset the Universal with that SIM installed, nothing changed, still can't receive calls.
And once the problem happens, GPRS won't connect as well..

Already called them, they can do nothing about it, I traced our mail server using their GPRS, it stops some where is London!
I will try to down-grade the Jasjar with the old firmware. It might work :?:
Thanks buddies!
Can the Radio only be downgraded? Or I will have to downgrade the ROM as well?
You can downgrade the radio only, Find the radio you want on the ftp and then upgrade or downgrade just that
Here is what I tried so far..
1) Installing Qtek latest ROM, still didn't work.
2) Downgraded to Radio 1.06.00 and the problem is still there!!
Looks like I will be selling the JASJAR as soon as the P990i is here!
I suspect troubling SIM is UMTS (3G) enabled, AND has poor 3G coverage. JJ sees UMTS and spends its time trying to connect, but can't quite pull it off. I'm battling with this and trawling this board indicates that this is the issue; weak UMTS which you only experience witht he one SIM.

Very strange GSM problem

Using O2 Exec.
Device working perfect like PDA with GPRS & SMS functions but then I try to call it's loss signal. After "call ending" it's fidn signal again.
Already undergo to install diferent versions of ROMs & RADIO. Try to unlock to make sure that phon not locked.
Somebody HELP!!!
PS. Then SIM installed & I turn flymode I can't off it but then SIM is not installed switching performing without any problems.
PSS. sorry for english
Have you tried ...:
a) a SIM by the same provider
b) another provider's SIM
Make sure that your SIM also works in another phone. It may be unlikely that your current SIM could be the problem.
I have also a strange problem when i send an SMS larger than 300 characters it spends me money but it doesnt send it !

SIM from another cell operator, but it's of course working.
Then it might be a good idea to have your SIM replaced.

Tested three SIMs from different operators? the result same :-(
All SIMs work on another phones.
Have you tried reinstalling the ROM that worked in the 1st place? Otherwise you'll have to consider taking to a shop.
Signal Loss Problems
I am having the same problems. I even had T-Mob send me a new phone with the same result. Did you ever find a solution?
I am also having same problem, the agency informed me that there is a damage in the internal board and it cannot be fixed. this is rediculous...

bull****!
i sent my pda for repairs (to fix a different problem) and after two weeks they came up with the same answer,
but a day after i got my pda back, i changed batteries and found out it was a battery problem, and not a board problem!
thats a few hundred bucks of differens!
they seem to find it as a "default" answer, instead of saying "we don't have a clue what the hell's wrong".

Troubleshooting Phone problem

Hi. Currently my g3 prophet works only as a pda The phone function doesn't. It is somehow unable to detect any network. Does anyone know how to confirm whether if this is a hardware problem or a software problem.
I don't know whether if it is because I switched roms. Bad news is I don't have my original rom...which is the dopod 818pro here in malaysia. I've tried several radio roms too and no luck with those eithers which leaves me to think that it could be an hardware issue.
Hopefully someone might be able to help me out without maybe troubleshooting steps for a newbie. Thanks in advance.
I want to add that i tried opening the SIM manager to see if it is a sim card connection issue and I'm able to see the sim card properties, ie like the memory size and so on which to me means that the unit can speak with the sim card.
I've already flashed to the most basic rom which is an original that is from the wiki and tried all the available radio roms below.

Am I missing any other things that i need to do/try?
Ok.After spending a whole day trying to figure out whats wrong...I tried a different sim(from a different service provider) which now works.
At first maybe I thought it would be sim locked so I got hold of lokiwiz to unlock. However after running the program, it tells me that the phone was never locked.
So now I'm back to square one. Does anyone else from Malaysia have this problem? I'm trying to use Maxis (which doesn't work) while inserting a Digi one will.
hmmm strange. bought mine in malaysia as well. no problems after i upgraded radio roms & also touch 7 & 8. works in malaysia, europe & now new zealand, roaming & using 'local' sim cards
phones in malaysia are never sim locked maaa AFAIK
maybe it is a sim card issue. some sims are 64kb & others are 128kb?

Yeah thats the thing...i KNOW that phones in malaysia are never sim locked but I couldn't think of any other explanation for the strange behaviour except that. I didn't think that sim cards could cause such issues as I am very sure other users must be using Maxis like with the prophet without a problem.
I've tried out a few different friend's sim cards (some of which are from the same carrier as i am) and it works. I guess something is wrong with mine although it works in their phones though. Some stupid compatibility issue? Never heard of this before though.

SIM Access ORBIT 2 lock

Hello, i have a big problem regarding a ORBIT2 from O2. The guys at O2 dont understand my problem , so i hope as the last hope you can help me. As you know the Orbit2 is the same as HTC cruise, o2 has no sim-lock here in germany. I use a sim-card from another telephone company and all works fine. I have problems with the sim-access profile. In my car i have a Nokia 616 Bluetooth hands free unit built in which supports sim- access profile. If i try to establish a connection between the orbit2 and my in car unit it works to the point as they handle out the password. After i confirm the given password from the handsfree device it tells me that the simcard i not valid. Is in the orbit 2 a lock on the bluetooth sim access profile which means that only o2 Simcards are allowed for the Sim access ? Can you please help me, because here is no one which understands my problem. Maybe i can have another firmware to solve the problem, the phone itself is simlock-free.
I dont understand why it is only possible with o2-sim cards to have the sim access functionality.
Can anybody help me?
Greetings Wolfman-Jack
Sorry I don't have an answer to your problem; I understand car kits using SAP are quite new.
Could you tell me how well it works with other phones in general, and how much you paid?
I understand the SAP system means the car kit has it's own "phone" but accesses your SIM card to connect to the network?
Hi there,
it works great!
You turn on your ignition key and the car kit start opening the connection to your cellular phone in your pocket without any touch of a button ect...
After your drive, you switch of the motor and the car unit disconnects the connection and give the cellular phone its function back.
A great thing, but believe me iam so disappointed that my new Orbit from O2 rejects my simcard but only in combination to my car hands free unit....
Greetings to UK!

Hi,
interesting. So just to be clear you tried
1) o2 sim in orbit II - sim access works fine
2) other net sim in orbit II- sim access not work?
if that's the case you could try flashing a new rom, but I would suggest u wait a bit. Maybe check in the kaiser (o2 stellar) forum, for same prob and how to resolve it.
check compatibility of your bluetooth car kit with Polaris seems to be ok
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/6084.htm
"This product is compatible with:

HTC: Advantage, MTeoR, P3300, P3400, P3600, P4350, P6300, P6500, S310, S620, S710, S730, Touch, Touch Cruise, Touch Dual, TyTN, TyTN II"
so that's out of the way

ORBIT2 O2 Lock on SIM ACCESS
Hi Jackster,
i have meanwhile a little more what i have checked out.
Yesterday i took all sim-cards which have been in nearby range and what a big surprise all worked fine.
I tried prepaid cards of Vodafone, T-Mobile, and E-PLus and a contract card of E-Plus.
The only simcard which was rejected during the try of connect to the bluetooth devise is my own BASE-SIM-CARD .
BASE is by the why part of EPLUS company thats the FLATRATE PART of EPLUS.
After i tested all, i called my friend which has also an BASE contract and what another big surprise his card also didn`t work.
After all brainstorming it seems that only that BASE-cards were declined.
Next step is to find out what the differences are between all cards and the BASE sim card is. Maybe UMTS and normal GSM????
Maybe a protocol problem, because in my E51 from Nokia all cards also the BASE-CARDS works fine.
Greetings
Wolf
Wolf, I would suggest trying BASE related forums, as the same issue might happen with other handsets.
You might also try phoning BASE, tell them your problem, and asking if they have another type of SIM card you can try, even if you have to pay €10.
Good luck, and please let us know if you find the solution.
good luck
Update and News
Hi there,
i wanna update my investigations.
It works with normal GSM cards (like my old prepaid) but not with the new UMTS cards.
And my provider only has that new UMTS cards.
Maybe i can remove the program in my Phone which is in charge for the SIM-ACCESS Profile and replace it to another version ??????

it would be difficult to get an old simcard, cause all provider deliver as new card so called USIM Card, most times with 72k Size. Try to get a blank E-Plus Simcard in an phoneshop and call the hotline, ask them for a sim card change and tell them you have a blank simcard you can use (dont tell its an eplus sim card) the cant check it, they will reaktivate your simcard with your base number without questions only minor change... in the phone your provider will be stated as E-Plus cause its programmed in your simcard.

Hello Wolf,
i have the same problem with my new Touch Cruise and my Nokia 616. I tried several Sims´s the last 2 days. One Vodafone (UMTS), one normal O2 (UMTS), one O2-Multicard (UMTS) and one old E-Plus (GSM).
The E-Plus Sim was the only one wich operated normally in SAP-Mode. The other Sim-Cards hanged by connecting after pairing. After turning the igniton off and on, this cards asked for the PIN but they didn´t find a network.
Have you tried another Firmware likes Bepes???
Hello LM76,
no i havent heard about that.
Can you tell me more.
Wolf
