screen not centered - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

I have an issue and since I almost never play games I didn't make anythimg of it until today
I wanted to play a game (gamebox) and again my screen is not centered.
By that I mean that the game itself is not really in the center of the screen. I can see the edge of my desktop on the left side and the top of the game.
This is not the first time I see that.
Any idee?
Thnx
Djslash

I guess nobody have ever heard of this issue (no reply at all).
Well, tyo bad for me :-(

I est gues is that the game is not meant for VGA screen

Touch Screen stopped working.

Hey all First post, w00t.
New to the PDA type phone thing and learning what i can from here. Dont quite understand WM5 yet but i'll get it eventually.
nice fourm you all have here
A few post have hit the nail on the head with issues with the phone.
No hinge LED's when the phone rings is my main hate at the mo i think.
Also anyone know how to get media player to play videos in full screen? all it does is puts a black border round the video rather than streching it. This would be cool
Whats the differance between the o2 (or different) and corporate install type?
Also TomTom M5.2 is coming up all green lines, had a quick search and cant find a fix. Anyone?
Thought i'd drop on and say i've had a problem with my screen (gotta love us being beta testers ehh?) Only got the phone at chrimbo and woke up the other morning to find that the screen wouldnt tap. It seems that the screen is now tapping itself randomly, closing applications and not letting me use the touch screen at all. You cant reallign the screen.
Seems a few people have had this problem and it seems un-fixable, soft, hard resets and reinstalling the ROM doesnt work. pulling the battery out and leaving it for a short while seems to cure the problem for a short while.
If you're having this problem, call the retailer and have it replaced. Defo seems to be a hardware issue, maybe a bad batch?
I'm waiting on them getting a new one in store for me.
HTH
JAmes
The screen issue does seem similar to the problem I was having.
Was on and off, but totally stopped responding early Sunday morning. Didn't start working again after numerous resets. Took it to the O2 shop today and it decided to start working again...
But they believed me, gave me a replacement and I've had zero problems with this one.
Seems like there may be some faulty ones about. Get it changed and hope they don't give you another faulty one

EVO Video of touch Screen Working

We have seen multiple videos of the screen grounding issue and there are many that say theirs does not have this problem. I have two evo's and they both have this issue. I would request those who are not haveing this issue to please post a video of their phone's touch screen working while not grounded. It is not that I think anyone is lying, I just wonder if maybe the issue is not being tested correctly. I just want to see someone's that does not have this issue so I can be confident that if I return mine I have a chance of receiving one with out this problem. So please anyone that does not havethis issue show video of the phone on a pillow or bed or multiple ungrounded surfaces with the phone not plugged in to anything and demonstrate the drawing app and also the pull down notification so I can see one that works. Thanks in advance!
It's not consistent, I hadn't noticed it until after I found out...I noticed a screen tap wasn't registered when I clearly pressed.
If you look at the demo images, it shows it does work, but doesn't always work...it's not consistent like it should be.
Yes I know that it is inconsistant... that is the issue. What I am asking for is to see someone's that consistently works while not grounded. I want to see if there is even one evo out there that has a touch screen that works as it should while not grounded. I believe that possibly those that say they dont have this screen issue may not understand what we are saying or are testing it differently.
mines having the issue hold it in my hand its fine lay it on the desk it messes up
I had never noticed this until I did as you suggested and use it on my pillow and sure enough I have the same issue. Not sure if it matters or not to me yet since I only notice it during this testing and not with every day use. Guess I will have to think about it!
Just tried this out on a pillow and for me it is just the top 1/3 of the screen that goes unresponsive. Tried it with the marketplace and i could scroll just fine through the list of apps at the bottom but from the Apps, Games, Downloads Tabs up, the screen is unresponsive.

I returned my first Evo because the screen in the portrait notification bar area was dead to touch.
My new unit has no issues whether lying flat on a desk or on a bed or pillow.
Mine is going back to Sprint a new one issued, just waiting for them to get the new batch in.
I called them yesterday about it and let them know it is being returned for a new one.

Do you have a video of this?
Up until just now I thought mine was perfectly fine but I just tried setting it on a pillow and doing it and lo and behold, it's a little glitchy at the top 3rd of the screen. It's perfectly fine laying flat on a disk or stack of papers though.
This doesn't seem like such an issue to me though. Not as much as the 30fps issue. When am I ever going to be lying my phone on a pillow using it? I always hold it in my hand anyway.
If the original poster wants to keep a tally: I have the problem and have the 1st hardware revision. I also confirm grounding the screen itself did no fix the issue (since I have the invisible shield). However, the problem was immediately resolved when I grounded the battery/phone negative terminal by running a wire from it to my bare finger. Touching the screen with my other hand/finger showed the issue had disappeared.
I posted a video on YouTube, but xda won't let me post links since I am unverified.
So I am coming to the conclusion that this grounding issue effects all evo's, seeing that not one person can produce a video of it working otherwise.
My evo works fine no matter what its on. I post a video later today.

Works
Mine works. I haven't seen an issue on any surface or lack of surface. The four other's I know who have the phone haven't had this issue either.
Mine works too, no grounding issues here. Why no video? Just don't feel the need to prove anything to you.
My EVO doesn't have this problem at all. I put it on a stryofoam plate and it was slightly less responsive, but still worked on all parts of the screen.
Mine doesn't have the screen grounding issues, but my colleague's does. I used the phones side by side and I see how the top 1/3 of his screen doesn't respond when laying flat. Mine works perfectly. Unfortunately I have bad light leakage above the buttons where his doesn't.
Nathan
No video necessary. Just do what I outlay in my post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6821306&postcount=102
Takes only a few minutes and you can see immediately and with real accuracy whether or not your phone is working properly.

I am asking for video simply to see if there are any phones out their that do not have this issue. If u don't want to help a fellow evo enthusiast out fine, but seeing how I have not seen a single video of the phone on an ungrounded surface which does not suffer from this issue j doubt you are testing yours the same way if it is not giving you the same result. That
Is why a video would be helpful. Because if yours indeed does not suffer from the problem then that means that there is chance that if I returned mine that I could get a working model. So if you want to help fellow forum members out... post a video.
Does anybody in here ever USE the kickstand?

POLL: Issues with bottom of touch screen

Hi all,
I would like to ask as many people as possible to test the bottom of their touch screens using multitouch visualiser 2 (free from the market).
I (and many others as it seems) are finding the bottom 5-10 mm of the screen is very unresponsive, this can be checked in the above app easily and if you have the problem it will either pick up no input or the "target" will flicker like mad when you firmly press your finger in the area.
I would like to gauge what kind of percentage of units have the problem.
Cheers!
EDIT: I recommend trying this app- it has deffo helped this issue for me!

Nope... Mine is perfectly fine...
Hi Higgsy.
Yeah a seem to get some problems with the bottom left of mine, It kind of flickers when i move across the bottom 10mm of the left side when using multitouch visualizer. Its fine on the bottom right. I have always had a slight issue when trying to drag shortcuts from that part of the screen to the bin. but apart from the its not a major issue. I was hoping it was a software issue, but your poll suggests it may just be a few units. Have to keep this one until they are in-stock instore anyway.

Thanks mate, that has helped a lot. No more flicker in multitouch visualizer. Dragging icons from that part of the screen is also improved. Seems to just be a calibration problem.
Happy Days

yeahj the whole screen seems much more responsive and keyboard too.
I've only found about a 2mm deadzone near the bottom, not nearly as bad as some that I've seen. Also seems to be a bit hard to press the home button in the notifications bar sometimes.
Thanks for posting that screen calibration app, I'll give it a look

Wow!
Higgsy I want your babies! Had a 10mm dead strip in the bottom left of my display, also had some issues typing on the keyboard, double hits drove me crackers, got to the point I couldn't be bothered to type. Well I used that calibration APK you linked and the deadzone has gone and even better my keyboard is much more responsive
About the babies thing.... might be a problem with me being a 42 year young hairy bloke . Settle for a hearty thanks?
Bumped it on modaco. Searched for this previously but its a bit of a dead thread.
yeah its deffo worth a bump doing one these every week wont hurt.
We could ask to pin this thread?
I put it in dropbox for quick access http://db.tt/QNqL2TB
I can use swiping on Launcher Pro after calibrating the screen, just like on my SGS! Great contribution!
Going to try it now, thanks
Mine was perfect for the first month I owned it, then it got really bad all of a sudden. I ran this app and it fixed it, but now sometimes randomly every few days (or sometimes within a few hours) the very edge where all the connectors are stops working, so if you have it rotated so that is the top, it is impossible to slide down the notification bar.
Running the app again fixes it again, but I hate that I have to keep running the app. It has held perfect for the last 3-days though, so hopefully I didn't just jinx myself.

Spassy touch registration

Hello XDA! I bought a used (almost new though) HD2 a month or so ago, obviously I went straight ahead and flashed something else than WM 6.5 onto it...
However it has this weird issue with the touch being registered in an odd way sometimes...
Once in a while it will register a touch although I'm not touching the screen, other times it will freak out and register random touches all over the screen...
I notice this especially whenever i type...
(Look at the attachment for an example of this behavior captured with the pointer location in dev tools)
Is this a software bug in Android or is it my digitizer that needs replacement?
Thanks in advance
No one knows?
Never encountered a bug like this. So I have to say its your screen freaking out. Common problem with hd2 when they get overheated.
But you can always try other roms to see how it responds then.
Or possibly you accidentally touched the screen at the edge with your palm? I've done that loads of times before, and the HD2 only supports 2 fingers (also, it does this really badly from my experience).
I've noticed that I have to text slower than I actually can because it just doesn't register all of the points clearly enough :/

I've tried a bunch of different roms but they all seem to do it, I don't remember whether or not WP7 also did it though...
Overheated? hmm maybe because it does seem to happen more frequently when i text a lot but it might just be because i get more frustrated by it.

Perhaps, I'll have to see if i can replicate it with the phone lying on the table and only using my finger...
i sometimes have this problem too, but only when i have sweaty fingers..
i think it's the old generation digitizer. it's like drop of sweat are lying on the screen, making it freak out, cause the digitizer doesn't know where it gets touched.. so it jumps from here to there, and back and then somewhere else..
it always happens to me when im playing games on the pc:
i get a sms, i want to answer. i forget that my hands are sweaty after 2h of gaming and the screen freaks out. UNTIL.... i clean my hands and the screen on a tissue or so..
lol it even happens sometimes that it types something by itself, then sends it... >.<!!
probably you have sweaty hands too when this happens?
just try to clean the screen when it happens.. it could help

Touch screen test.

I've noticed in some games my touch screen in the lower bottom corners gets a little twitchy. So I downloaded a couple of touch screen apps to see if my N7 was acting up ... sure enough -it was. Notice in the video when I touch the lower corners .. one touch will cancel out the other. Thus making it impossible to play games whith dual stick or dual button functions .
Have any of you tried testing your device ? Does it act like this ?
Video is poor but you can still see what I'm talking about . Notice how one touch sometimes registers as 2 or 3 ....

Sorry , fixed !
Just got done with a Google rep from their RMA service ... It seems on the first batch of units, quite a few of them, infact had bad digitizers. Google is sending me a replacement for my N7 with no questions asked . Until then, I can keep my defected one and send it back when the new one arrives. I'm a happy camper with Google's RMA service ... :}
