clearly says " Unlimited free GPRS and i-mode browsing until 31st December 2005 (compatible handset required)"
although from reading this forum , appears thats not the case - so I emailed / called them and was told - only applies to i-mode phones, well if thats the case why list it on nrmal tariff and not under "imode "
instead I get 5mb for first month, then 1mb pm thereafter
Not happy ! - 5mb may be enough for a small gprs /wap, but not for html browsing on a pda ( which I had inctended to link to laptop)
i got a similar email reply to this myself today:
New customers receive the 'Welcome Browse and Download' offer, which gives 5 MB free GPRS allowance for the first 30 days. This offer is not for existing customers.
The unlimited free GPRS and i-mode browsing until 31st December 2005 is only available to the customers, who have purchased an i-mode handset with the our new Pay Monthly tariffs.

they have received enough queries about this by now that they surely must be aware that the page is misleading? and yet, they are still selling Exec's online with the 'unlimited free gprs' claim on the page.
grrr.... if only O2 weren't the only ones doing the Universal in black :-(
Just mention advertising standards and I'm sure they will wave the charge for you.
Watchdog is another good way to lubricate respone machinery too! Also, you could contact Which.
The C/S is awful... first email did not answer questionjust said 5Mb....
call... afrer pulling up webpage said " oh yes I see what you mean".. at first agreed to add it, then after checking, said no - but admitted I wasa right
My complaint email ... asking for reinstatement of offer or a small ( in comparison financial rebate) .. their reply just repeats their 1st email, not answering question/ complaint
I will follow this up (This offer is potentially worth 2.3 months x £75 = £172 !! ) ,
even their telephone C/s & an email reply seems to agree that advert is misleading, but only couple of small offers ( £10 / 4mb extra gprs for a minth!)- still not happy - they said case now with complaints dept
I have had mine about a week and it says on my bill I get 5mb free (though I e-mailed and asked and was told it was unlimited).
My bill shows no record of me using any of my 5mb - even though I should have used about that. Maybe they are not charging after all. If they do, they can sing for their money
My online bill also states that I get a "Welcome browse and download 5 MB" but on the used to date column, the value is still zero when I've blatantly used it. Very odd.
I was looking forward to unlimted GPRS till the end of the year!
Re; Free GPRS
Hi, I have an online account with o2 and pointed out to the customer help line the URL detailing the "Unlimited free GPRS and i-mode browsing until 31st December 2005 (compatible handset required)". After having a word with his line manager not once or twice but three times! They agreed to add a note to my account stating that I would be reimbursed for any GPRS usage between now and 31st December.
Hope this helps?.. “if you don’t ask.. you don’t get!”
Just spoke to C/S on the phone and they stated that it's just for I-mode phones.... Boo!
Might email them and mention trading standards etc..
Re: Unlimited Free GPRS and i-mode.. lol
I had the very same argument with them. It says "GPRS and i-mode" I just kept referring back to their website details. Took three attempts for them to agree, it's very misleading! Hum?.. Accidental?.. Who knows?.. But they haven’t changed it yet!
I'd be cautious about trusting O2's online bill and account data. iirc, there was a mention on news://uk.telecom.mobile just a few days ago complaining that the online data usage information was at least a month out of date...
I have phoned the O2 help previously when I was using the O2XDAIIs and the call centre said "its free so use it" - I did - and to date I have never been charged, now I have the Exec (second device with its own number) I have been using GPRS quite heavily - and await my second bill - the first showed no G3 traffic charge - I will phone when I get chance but to date O2 has not cost a penny above the normal line charge - the advert on the web does state "free" and that means no charge in anyones opinion - Mike
Totally agree with you Mike ,
As I read that others were being told , " its not free" , and given its something like £3 per mb on my tariff , I thought ( perhaps stupidly! ) that I ought to check , as rather not be arguing a £1500 bill for 1.3gig download ( which I would had done if also connected to my laptop)
I am having the same problem in getting my free GPRS/3G data. See this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=30817&highlight= for details. I have now received a further email saying they are unable to read my screen-shots - which are in JPEG format! They also STILL have not encalated my query to a manager even though three of my emails have asked them to do so. I will send a further response today, asking for a resolution by the end of the week or I will be taking this matter further - otherwise I can see them delaying until end of December....I wonder why...
If they agree to reinstate , I will expect the offer to extend further than 31/12/05 to cover the time I am been unwilling to use ( at risk of fees)
-
I have given them numerous alternative's that I will accept as a repalcement of this offer.
just rec'd this
I can assure you that it is our aim to provide the highest level of customer service and we are always concerned to hear if we have failed to meet your expectations. O2 regret that you feel that you have not received the high standard of service, which our customers have come to expect from us.

"On ya’ sell Cilonc57.. Your a shining example to us all mate"
cheers ( I think.. your typing is as bad as mind)
It took 2 calls and about 6 emails to get anywhere - finally ended up with
Complaint Resolution Dept
actually after using the set for a few days , think I would prefer a cash settlement as no 02 3G signal, but guess I can't have it all !
Next part of the saga
---
Sent an email to them , suggesting that as I did not have the free GPRS for 8 days, and it took 6 attempts ( calls/ web forms / emails) befo0re it was resolved , perhaps I should receive a token of compensation
( I also pointed out that under their terms 8.3 / 8.4 I felt I was actually entitled to terminate contract early as it took themn more than 7 days to correct their error. -Petty maybe , but thought a good bargaining position ------ This is not the same as returing phone under 14 day period)
Now get a reply stating ....
As told in our previous emails, the free GPRS promotion is available to the customers who have purchased an i-mode phone. As your phone is not an i-mode phone, you are entitled to 5.0 Mb free GPRS access until 31 December 2005.

Ok they do give me the option of the 14 day return , although implied phone would have to be returned, but cost not credited!
I am considering purchasing either the O2 Exec or the Orange M5000 but can not make my mind up.
I would be interested in what other members experiences have been on both networks.
Also is there any difference in the preinstalled software options etc.
I share your dilema
Also wondering, whats the best deal peopel found for it ? expecially with data
dunno about deals but the o2 exec is black with a blue backlight on the keyboard... Cool
I was with orange for a number of years using both the spv e200 and the spv m1000 (Best phone i've had in my opinion) but could not get a signal at home, this is why i switched to o2.
What about one of the T-Mobile Web'n'Walk tariffs?
I think Exec is not network locked and M5000 is... but with Orange you get 2-for-1 Orange Wednesday movie tickets!!!
There are reviews of both phones here,
http://www.coolsmartphone.com/index.php?Itemid=55
Its a news article so if you dont link to it today (28th) it will love down the page, basically its a double review comparing the Orange unit and o2 unit.
M5000

I was on Orange for years, but went O2 contract for my magician (impatience), and then got my Universal on O2 data tariff for £5pcm, phone at £245 (impatience++)
I don't use my universal for phone calls, so it's great and on free PAYG sim for when i do. I wouldn't use the Universal as my phone, so this setup works well.
But between o2 and orange, I've found little difference of note. At least o2 makes an effort with o2 active, bloatware that it is. Orange's little UI is a bit weak, but strip it all off anyway.
Customer service is univerally unsatisfactory everywhere, although that's generally no issue day to day.
I like the o2 Exec's granite black like coldness. Silvery would be nice though if poss.
Frankly, little in it. Hardware's the same, system will be stripped down in use to what you want, so go with price and bundle. And play off your current operator if you've got one, to get a good deal. Call orange disconnections to put the heat on them.
V
True to the point - both devices have the same hardware. I have an exec and donot have any troubles with my device (running in corporate mode). I too would say it comes down to the network and colour of the device.
Orange in the least cares if you leave their network, as they have reached their customer target for the year, unless you are a business customer in which case they might try to retain your business. No matter what your monthly spend they are not making any efforts to keep customers, so it is very unlikely they will give you a better deal even if you call retentions.
Also from 1st Dec 2005 on all orange plans freephone calls will be chargeable. i.e. 0800/0500/0808 are no longer included in your inclusive minutes.
Also, if you take an OVP tariff or £50+ tariff, you would not be able to downgrade for the term of your contract. You can upgrade though whenever you want.
Orange is making many such changes to its tariffs and so if you decide to join them or upgrade with them, make sure you read the fine print first.
Being with o2, I can highlight some benefits I see. See if they suit your need better as well.
o2 active browsing is free till dec end. In-store they are doing exclusive 3G tariffs - 02 500 - also till dec end in both 12 and 18 mnth variants.
1000mins+200txts for 6mnths and 500+100 thereafter + 100kb o2 active browsing allowance @ £35pm for 12mnths.
750mins + 150txts + 100kb o2 active browsing allowance @ £35pm for 18 mnths.
o2 online offers only 18 mnth tariff in talker and texter option but inclusive o2 active active allowance is 1MB @£35pm.
Inclusive minutes include UK fixed line calls,WAP over GSM data calls, calls to O2 mobiles and calls to other UK mobiles (‘cross network’).
The Universal has the option to lock to GSM or UMTS network signal for services. But, browsing is slower on GSM as compare to 3G.
Also SIM provided is usuable is non-3G handsets as well.

Orange had the nerve to run an advertising campaign about looking after existing customers. Funny. I shifted over to T-Mobile for 2 contracts and left Orange which I had 3 contracts on. Contrary to comments above, the customer service people at orange are a complete bunch of luddites. Its a good job ringing them is free, although I'm sure they will start charging soon, they'd save loads of money and also make it too. T-Mobile customer services whilst chargable is much better and they people on the line don't get attitude with you.
I'm also sure that Orange is the worst value network in the UK for sure.
i've never paid for t-mobile support. It's free by dialling 150. Not everyone knows all the answers but they usually find out.
I have just phoned Orange to ask for an upgrade to the M5000 - want £199.99 and will not budge on that price (been with orange for 10+ years, £30 per month contract).
O2 website got fairly good deal (online talker deal):
+ £149.99 for handset
+ 400 mins x-net
+ 150 texts
+ can use text allowance for SMS or MMS
+ 1mb data included
+ video calls charged at same rate as voice calls (is this permanent?!? not mentioned anywhere that a promotion - therefore free video calls within my 400 mins allowance?! If yes, this is superb?!)
+ Non geographical numbers included in monthly allowance
- 18 month contract
- Need to install into the Corp mode
Any other comments on this deal?
yeah the data allowance is tiny. the universal is all about being connected, and you will need lots of data to use the potential.
No, the video call is a promotional offer and only for o2 to o2 video calls. It is mentioned in the tariff details. Video calls will cost 50p once the promotion is over, but as of now they are free. Don't remember when the promotion is ending but might be 31st March 2006. Please check with customer services. Might want to look at the o2 500 promotional tariff, which costs just £5 more and gives 600 more minutes pm. i.e. £35pm and gives you 1000 minutes + 150txts throughout the 18 month period.
http://shop.o2.co.uk/shop/o2uk/jsp/handsets/3GPhones.jsp
Cost of phone is same but £25 cheaper is u buy through the student website.
www.o2.co.uk/nus
Yes, the data package is less, you can get a bolts on though I think for more data. As of now it is free till 31st dec.
Also data calls over WAP are included in inclusive minutes - this I think should mean that if I lock the phone to GSM mode and use the browing features, i will use data over WAP from my inclusive minutes to browse. I may be wrong, for I won't know for sure post-dec as till now all browsing is free and they do not provide with any usage details.
ahh ok - thought it must be a promo !
Hopefully I'm being stupid, but O2 shop doesn't let you select the 3G tariff with the EXEC ??
Yea, its not you. Actually they keep putting the exec with the 3g tariff and then removing it every now and then. They are selling them out at a faster pace than they can stock em, me thinks. So trying to sell more on other tariffs.
Anyways, just select any 3G phone deal, choose talker/texter and later in the basket choose continue with the displayed package and then click edit phone and choose O2 XDA Exec - 3G from the drop down list.
Cheers
Thanks ordered Exec today, due tomorrow
i have just left orange, they seemed to be coming across a bit carefree about keeping my custom over the last 6 months, when they then made a press statement to say they were launching the m5000 in the UK but wasn't then available for another 2 months i got fed up
i have now moved to o2, got the xda exec for £139 and on the 3G 500 online package, 1000 minutes, 150 texts etc, very pleased with o2 so far, had to ring o2 to make my order as i couldn't get the exec and the 3G package on the web order as stated in post furthur up.
looks like orange would have charged me £299 for the m5000 which for me is way too much.
so well done O2, i well recommend them. only small gripe is they don't seem to be quite as transparent as orange when it comes to looking at costs on tariffs.
oh another thing, ordered phone at 20:55hrs on tuesday night, phone arrived via DHL 07:30 on the thursday, was expecting to have to wait several weeks as phone was in such demand.
Same here... Orange were not at all bothered about me moving..
O2 have been great so far, quick delivery! 750 mins and 750 texts can't be beaten!

Yea their website needs a lot of improvement. Think they are working on it as they are doing a survey on the website for customer friendliness. Just popped up last time I visited www.o2.co.uk
As for tariff details, you can always call them else you bill states the various call charges for your selected plan - right column page 2.
My Xda has never caused me to be charged for GPRS useage. Even on O2 active downloads..........
I've checked my contract and I can see no reason for this strange occourance there.
Does anybody else have this strange ummmmm "problem".
The main problem I have is i'm now completely used to having the internet on my phone, and check my e-mail constantly, and am never signed off of MSN. I don't want to suddenly be hit by a HUGE bill.

Is that O2 in the UK? I have just changed from O2 to T-Mobile but for the whole year I didn't get charged a penny for GPRS. My contract included 1MB free per month and I was regularly using 2 or 3MB. I read two possible causes for this: one was that they were offering free GPRS until 31st Dec '05, and another was that they simply had no way of working out charges for GPRS. Neither sound plausible to me.
Anyway - T-Mobile Web'n'Walk 100 - 100minutes per month, 40MB of data (£1 per MB after that), 18month contract, free MDA Compact II.....and nice and cheap as well....averages out at £22 per month.
I unfortunatly signed for 18 months (in june) on my O2 contract, to get my 50% extra free ("for life").
I technically only get 100kb free per month, and can often use 5Mb.....And web access isn't cheap on O2!
I've never been charged also.
Having been keeping on using 5~6M/Month,I'm waiting to check the bill of Jan,2006 to see wether they will charge or not.
I've had my O2 contract since January and never been charged for GPRS, and even swapped my original XDA II for an XDA Exec (Universal). I regularly use loads of bandwidth (about 500M+/month) as I don't have internet access at home.
I'm looking forward to see if the same applies to 3G!
Man, this is crazy! Sure you guys aren't going to have to leave the country when your bills come?!
I should download Platform Builder 5 like this
V
DAMMIT i have a 8 meg bundle on mine (O2)
i wonder if that means i will be charged as they know i will use it
HMMMMMM
never ever been charged a penny
Free GPRS
Good news for you guys,
Spoke to 02 earlier.
For pay monthly contract customers GPRS is completely free and unlimited until around May 2006, no matter how much you use you will never be charged.
For pay as ya go customers, 1st month on pay as you go comes with 5mb downloading included only.
So will o2 be charging existing customers after may 06 or is just new customers??
cheers
I'm glad I know when they're going to start charging, a grand for the internet is a bit much!
If only I could get bittorrent working without having to buy winmobile torrent ;-)!!!
Now I know that i'll leave it perminantly connected until then, and delete the connections after that!!!

That's how I feel !
It seems to be mainly the online contracts that get this "perk" (I know people on o2 contracts that certainly do get billed for data !
I had an online tarrif for a year with my XDAII (cant remember the name . but it was 500 texts and 50 xnet minutes for £19) and found that I got never got billed a penny for data ! I was impressed ,and having previously abused the port 8080 loophole for free GPRS on PAYG online sims , I assumed that something in the seetings of the XDAII was doing something similar ! - but then I used the sim in my Nokia 9500 and then my Qtek s100 and found that I just never got billed , no matter what settings I used
This was something I took into consideration when looking for a new "deal" when I purchased my Exec (obviously crossing my fingers that it would still be free on my new contract !) -All you can eat GPRS is worth a fortune when you think about it and (IMO ) worth at least an extra £50 on your bill !
At least (if you are on an online contract) you can keep an eye on your usage on the website - My last contract always showed an inclusive 1mb , of which I had used 0 ( ) despite having used untold amounts !
I think I'll start to pay special attention to this in May/June
Just one thing - Have o2 not threatened to begin charging a few times before ? I am sure I recall a few "Deadlines" being mentioned in the past year or so ?
oops - double post , sorry !
yeah i heard that too was may last year also that they said theyd charge for gprs lol still free today
Hmmmm interesting.
I am on o2 200 (not an online contract) and was paranoid about gprs use as there is only 100k included. I have never paid for any data on this contract (even before getting the exec 2 weeks ago) but certainly must've used more than that.
I just logged into to their incomprehensible website where you can view your charges so far this month and it is showing nothing used - and I've been playing with Opera on the Exec!
I've had my O2 200 tariff for about 18 months & use the GPRS quite alot per month, even abroad, & have never been charged.

THat explains it! I've only just joined O2 (as an online customer) and I've been confused about having used ZERO of my free 5 meg browse. I assumed it was free because it was all free until 31st Dec. I am meant to get 1 Meg a month.
I agree with EVERYTHING I have quoted above: It's worth a fortune; I keep checking online and have used 0; and I will pay close attention in future!
Not sure where I will go after o2 stop this "madness"
Probably orange PAYG on the £1 per day thing if it is still availabe(despite having existing contracts with Orange and Voda at the moment )
Is this still working?
I have been on o2 250 for the past month - their online billing shows 0 used despite me using it regularly. The inclusive 100K seems to disappear after a few pages.
Does anyone know if it is really free until May 2006? I note another thread where someone says they have received a text message from o2 saying that their free trial is over and they will be charged after 31st March.
I cannot see that o2 aren't aware of this, or that they cannot measure it as they are a technology company .
As I only had the Welcome Download (5MB) in the first month, and nothing appeared to be logged (on the website anyway), how would I know if I was part of their free trial? (mentioned above about text message stating it had ended). Are we sure that they are not logging it and it just hasn't appeared on the website due to a technical problem (only for them to present a bill later). Is there a limit to how long after you have used this that they can bill you?
Many thanks
Anon
Following on from their threats to begin charging on 31st March (as per other thread )
I can still see no activity on the online bill checker
I'll be a little bit annoyed if they don't charge as threatened now - As I have gone out and bought an MDA Pro with their one of T-mobiles new unlimited web tarrifs to compensate
Anyone noticed they are being charged yet ?
think its from may 2nd onwards when they said they were going to start charging
Some of us were told 2nd May (as you suggest) - and some of us were told 31st March (like me ) but there is nothing moving on the GPRS counter on o2's site yet !
Ah well , now I have two universals and a Vario anyway
If we didn't receive a message stating March or May (I only signed up to o2 in January), then is it safe to assume unlimited free access (based on earlier experiences) or do they even have to tell you that they are now charging? As this is outside what you are supposed to be paying for (ie, their tariffs say you should be paying, with only 100kb free a month - pointless limit as that lasts less than 10 minutes!), then I suppose that they could legitimately charge and backdate if the mood took them?
Does anyone know the official view? I haven't used it this past month much as I became worried that I would be landed with a hefty bill - I even went off and bought a Safecome SDIO Wifi card for home use (another thread, another problem!) after happily having XDAII pda internet access for two months.
Many thanks

UPDATE -
From yesterday (my billing date) I have a new Item on my "usage" page of their online bill checking facility
Where it used to say "texts , media messages , voice calls," they have now added "UK GPRS Mobile web "
Fortunately when I noticed , mine was at 937k (I get 1mb free)
Time to switch

Yup. O2 are increibly slow moving on this and have been caught on the back foot by flext + unlim data.
We charge £75 for unlim data, T-Mob now charge £7.50. Ten times less.
Our new business tariffs are nowhere near as good as T-Mobiles FLEXT accounts.
We're gonna get creamed by T-Mobile, absolutely creamed. I've sold NO phones at all this week, against a target of 2 per day, it's depressing. Business customers need to keep their numbers too, which means going back to Retentions to get it, and retentions ALWAYS beats or matches our prices!
Luckily I got offered a job out of the blue last night, and hooked up with a girl whos a friend of the girl who offered me the job out of the blue as well, AND my HT820 headphones arrived last night, just in time for the new A2DP upgrade for my Exec.... so I'm not complaining too much...

They've started charging me from 30th March!!!!!
They charged me £81 for 30th March and £18 for 31st March!
I've disputed the bill, let's see what happens.
o2 GPRS
You should be ok, I have just recently joined the wonderful ranks of T mobile flext + web n walk (25% discount on the flext 30 so £22.50 and if you sign up the web n walk for the term on taking out the contract its only £5.60ish pm). Bur before I was on o2 enjoying the benefits of free GPRS.
What I did was keep phoning customer services about once a month and noted who i spoke to, the date and time, and got them to confirm it was still free and that they would inform us by post or text if they were to start charging.
Of course they didn't, and one day I received a hefty bill (as expected). I phoned them up and quoted each person I had spoken to, the date ,the time and what they had actually said and they just couldn't argue. After a bit of debating they decided to let it drop
Good ol' T-mob, thats what I say !!!

I'k simply not giving them the money they're asking for for the data. Why should we have to run round circles coz they're ****wits?
The CS girl asked me to fax my bill etc etc, but why should I? I'm gonna email cs again, tell them the score, get them to SORT it. I've canceled the DD, so they can whistle.
o2 GPRS
I should have said that i've experienced loads of hassle with o2 CS in the past, which is the reason why I noted everything.
The only reson I stayed with them last time was because they "made me an offer i couldn't refuse." When they said that this year, I told them to stick it where the sun don't shine.
T mobile are definately on to a winner with flext and web n walk. I've been after a tariff like this in years. Also, their coverage is up with the best now too.!!

Yeah, in June, when the Vario II is likely released, I'll be six months into my 1 year with O2. Thank God I didn't let the appeal of free texts and minutes sway me to an 18 month contract. I'll then simply reduce to the lowest tariff*, and once that's implemented, I'll buy it out.
In the meantime, I'll get the Vario II from T-Mobile on the Relax+webwalk tariff, since I only ever do 1 year deals
The incompetence of O2 will be a distant memory. I can only hope that T-Mobile aren't equally stupid.
* Would I have to give 28/30 days notice for this?
Re: o2 GPRS
Double post - getting a lot of "phpBB : Critical Error Could not connect to the database" recently....
Someone on the MSE forum has just been billed for £370 of GPRS (backdated  - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=194449). I notice that my online unbilled calls area is showing 100KB used when it hasn't recorded anything before (since January).
Do they have to tell you that they are now recording data usage? I suppose they will claim they don't need to as they never said it was free anyway .

In my case they DID say it was free. Your friend there should not have b4een charged for data on 29th, 30th, and 31st March. He should query that, refuse to pay it, like I did.
I just got hit for £160
I just got hit for £160 for gprs as my audible air kicked in and went on a downloading spree.

Bother!
Just noticed a new heading has appeared on my online bill this month. Under "Unbilled Usage" it has another heading "Unbilled Usage to Date" - clicking on that now shows UK GPRS Mobile web - spent £30 last month without even realising it (as it has been free in previous months). No text message notifying me of this.
Ah well, end of that then .

hi all,
Just upgraded to an Orange SPV M3100, and i love it, got rid of my Axim X30 and my K800i so i now have an all in one device
Been playing with it to lol, upgraded to the latest rom provided by HTC and its loads faster than the Orange bumph that comes with it/on it.
Also setup gprs/3G on it so i got full wireless support, just got of the phone to orange customer services regarding data tariffs, they put me on the 10mb OW access and the Evening and weekend unlimited internet for free for 2 months to try, after 2 months its £5 per month
so this phone is costing me £50 pm with 550min/anytime, 30mins video calling, unlimited SMS, 10MB OW access and unlimited eves and weekends on the internet.
Is this a fair price to be paying? (be honest lol i wont bite)
ta muchly
Jon
Hi, i'm thincking of ugrading my M3100 to the latest HTC ROM (HTC English QTEK_001 1.35.255.2 11/14/06) is this the one you used. Also did your bootloader change to 1.09?
any help would be greatly appreciated
Hi Jonr
I also have an SPVM3100 for £30 p/m. For that I get 200 mins Xnet + 100 mins landlines, 75 txts, 30mins video and unlimited internet in eves and weekends. (horses for courses). But what is 10MB OW ?
Also, what do you mean by setup GPRS/3G. Isnt it already setup, or are you saying that after upgrading the ROM you had to set it up ?
Regards
Asif
I was wondering how I did with orange- just changed tariff- had the nokia N80 but wasnt really impressed so after 4 months orange did a free upgrade and had the m3100, paying 40 quid pm on the panther £45 tariff and an extra 2000 xnet mins. So total of 2900 xnet mins, 200 txts and free insurance. Only thing is its 18 month contract tho.
Orange data
Baiscally Orange don't really do 'data' when you compare to T mobile. I know they have this evening and weekend unlimited thing but as I said - put that next to web n Walk and see how much Xmas Cheer you feel towards Orange.
I was extremely lucky, in that in the summer they sort of launched/ tried a package called Orange World Unlimited, which is basically a direct type of match for WnW. I get unlimited (well almost) data all day for £8pcm. This was not advertised, and allegedly only applied to Panther tariffs, and had to be signed up before 1 September. Having said that, there have been sporadic reports of others getting it outside of these terms. Lots of reports of others being turned down as well of course. If I had T mobile reception at home , I would have gone with them though, as lets face it, you don't really buy a hermes if you only want to use it as phone - its kinda pointless without a good data package. There are lots of long threads about all this over on the modaco forums.
Hopefully with 3 now getting in on the data deals, the others will be forced to follow soon, but Orange just seem to be set against encouraging data use on their devices. (lets face it, if you have one of these devices, you are also likely to have a wifi network at home, and so off peak are you really gonna use the phones conenction versus the faster wifi? OK if you are out and about a lot, but in general I use the data options on the commute or when it picks up emails during the day.)
Just my thoughts.
