Free(?) GPRS on O2 - Networking

My Xda has never caused me to be charged for GPRS useage. Even on O2 active downloads..........
I've checked my contract and I can see no reason for this strange occourance there.
Does anybody else have this strange ummmmm "problem".
The main problem I have is i'm now completely used to having the internet on my phone, and check my e-mail constantly, and am never signed off of MSN. I don't want to suddenly be hit by a HUGE bill.

Is that O2 in the UK? I have just changed from O2 to T-Mobile but for the whole year I didn't get charged a penny for GPRS. My contract included 1MB free per month and I was regularly using 2 or 3MB. I read two possible causes for this: one was that they were offering free GPRS until 31st Dec '05, and another was that they simply had no way of working out charges for GPRS. Neither sound plausible to me.
Anyway - T-Mobile Web'n'Walk 100 - 100minutes per month, 40MB of data (£1 per MB after that), 18month contract, free MDA Compact II.....and nice and cheap as well....averages out at £22 per month.

I unfortunatly signed for 18 months (in june) on my O2 contract, to get my 50% extra free ("for life").
I technically only get 100kb free per month, and can often use 5Mb.....And web access isn't cheap on O2!

I've never been charged also.
Having been keeping on using 5~6M/Month,I'm waiting to check the bill of Jan,2006 to see wether they will charge or not.

I've had my O2 contract since January and never been charged for GPRS, and even swapped my original XDA II for an XDA Exec (Universal). I regularly use loads of bandwidth (about 500M+/month) as I don't have internet access at home.
I'm looking forward to see if the same applies to 3G!

Man, this is crazy! Sure you guys aren't going to have to leave the country when your bills come?!
I should download Platform Builder 5 like this
V

DAMMIT i have a 8 meg bundle on mine (O2)
i wonder if that means i will be charged as they know i will use it
HMMMMMM

never ever been charged a penny

Free GPRS
Good news for you guys,
Spoke to 02 earlier.
For pay monthly contract customers GPRS is completely free and unlimited until around May 2006, no matter how much you use you will never be charged.
For pay as ya go customers, 1st month on pay as you go comes with 5mb downloading included only.

So will o2 be charging existing customers after may 06 or is just new customers??
cheers

I'm glad I know when they're going to start charging, a grand for the internet is a bit much!
If only I could get bittorrent working without having to buy winmobile torrent ;-)!!!

Now I know that i'll leave it perminantly connected until then, and delete the connections after that!!!

That's how I feel !
It seems to be mainly the online contracts that get this "perk" (I know people on o2 contracts that certainly do get billed for data !
I had an online tarrif for a year with my XDAII (cant remember the name . but it was 500 texts and 50 xnet minutes for £19) and found that I got never got billed a penny for data ! I was impressed ,and having previously abused the port 8080 loophole for free GPRS on PAYG online sims , I assumed that something in the seetings of the XDAII was doing something similar ! - but then I used the sim in my Nokia 9500 and then my Qtek s100 and found that I just never got billed , no matter what settings I used
This was something I took into consideration when looking for a new "deal" when I purchased my Exec (obviously crossing my fingers that it would still be free on my new contract !) -All you can eat GPRS is worth a fortune when you think about it and (IMO ) worth at least an extra £50 on your bill !
At least (if you are on an online contract) you can keep an eye on your usage on the website - My last contract always showed an inclusive 1mb , of which I had used 0 ( ) despite having used untold amounts !
I think I'll start to pay special attention to this in May/June
Just one thing - Have o2 not threatened to begin charging a few times before ? I am sure I recall a few "Deadlines" being mentioned in the past year or so ?

oops - double post , sorry !

yeah i heard that too was may last year also that they said theyd charge for gprs lol still free today

Hmmmm interesting.
I am on o2 200 (not an online contract) and was paranoid about gprs use as there is only 100k included. I have never paid for any data on this contract (even before getting the exec 2 weeks ago) but certainly must've used more than that.
I just logged into to their incomprehensible website where you can view your charges so far this month and it is showing nothing used - and I've been playing with Opera on the Exec!

I've had my O2 200 tariff for about 18 months & use the GPRS quite alot per month, even abroad, & have never been charged.

THat explains it! I've only just joined O2 (as an online customer) and I've been confused about having used ZERO of my free 5 meg browse. I assumed it was free because it was all free until 31st Dec. I am meant to get 1 Meg a month.
I agree with EVERYTHING I have quoted above: It's worth a fortune; I keep checking online and have used 0; and I will pay close attention in future!

Not sure where I will go after o2 stop this "madness"
Probably orange PAYG on the £1 per day thing if it is still availabe(despite having existing contracts with Orange and Voda at the moment )

Is this still working?
I have been on o2 250 for the past month - their online billing shows 0 used despite me using it regularly. The inclusive 100K seems to disappear after a few pages.
Does anyone know if it is really free until May 2006? I note another thread where someone says they have received a text message from o2 saying that their free trial is over and they will be charged after 31st March.
I cannot see that o2 aren't aware of this, or that they cannot measure it as they are a technology company .
As I only had the Welcome Download (5MB) in the first month, and nothing appeared to be logged (on the website anyway), how would I know if I was part of their free trial? (mentioned above about text message stating it had ended). Are we sure that they are not logging it and it just hasn't appeared on the website due to a technical problem (only for them to present a bill later). Is there a limit to how long after you have used this that they can bill you?
Many thanks

XDA Exec *cough* sorry, MDA Pro on T Mobile UK

I can upgrade for £399 (inc vat). Told them "no way, I'll go to O2 thanks". They dropped the price instantly to £250 and then to £200 (for an 18 month contract). They'll have a date for me maybe by the end of the week.
For reference and comparison, I'm about 2 months past the end of my 12 month contract of £15+VAT/month for 100mb and expensive voice calls, normal spend is around £25-£30 inc vat.
I'll wait to see what O2's new data tariffs are like, but if T-mobile can maybe do something to decrease my voice call costs then I think I'll go for it
What tarif is that?
All I found in the T-mobile lists is a 100mb a month 3g datacard tarif, but it was £25 a month, voice at 25p a minute.
£15 a month for 100meg is great!!!
I pay 25p a minute on payg for voice anyway, so id love this tarif, but not sure if yours is similar? where did you see it?
Oh, and forget o2 for data. They suck. They are pushing the blackberry thing, and its like £15 a month for 5meg. Extra data bundles cost a fortune and ive never had a consistant answer on what is included, and what does what, if its full internet access or wap or whatever.
When is the universal due out with our uk carriers?End of the month?
I'm on the old version of that tariff - T Mobile Communication Center (sic) GPRS card at £15+VAT for 100mb and then 50ppm for voice. I bought from http://www.directmobilephones.com
On the downside, if you go over your 100mb, they sting you at £7.50/mb. Ouch.
On the other hand, I'm sure they have billing problems and I reckon I transfer around 40mb/month, not the 25mb on my bill. Or maybe Onspeed is doing a greater job than I thought 8)
O2 do some OK data tariffs - Data 36 at £14.50 and data 512 at £40 (both + VAT iirc) seem like fairly good deals to me, particularly as voice calls are only 25p (inc vat) on that deal.
ps - if anyone wants to try onspeed, please pm me for an affiliate code.
jay,
1st October: T Mobile - source - recent, "off the record" T mobile manager
3rd October: O2 - source - recent, on the record O2
28th October: Vodafone - source - not too recent, on the record vodafone manager
Uknown probably towards the end of October: Orange - source, nothing more than sales droids
Probably never: Three - source, wild speculation
Cheers for that.If it were to come out on three you'd probably get it for a fiver with free mb forever!Shame everyone else is such a rip off!
If it were to come out on THREE youd be wasting your time as they still dont offer a data service yet!
Correct me if im wrong, but youd want proper internet on your Universal not just the crappy THREE walled garden filled with Manure from THREE.
At risk of straying off topic, Three now offer proper internet access for £45 inc vat (for 512mb iirc). So, based on my current usage of 40ish mb and 30 minutes:
T mobile, 100mb, 30 minutes peak all networks
£30 per month x 12 = £360 + £250 for the handset = £610
O2, using say 40mb + 30 minutes
£27 x 12 + £229 for the handset = £553
I could take out a new contract with T mobile, based on http://www.scancom.co.uk/ on ufix with
ufix 15
£15 x 12 + £305 = £485
My mistake on the THREE data, I didnt know they finally had it. Its a bit much for me though!
a 256meg for £20 would do me. Even 128meg for £10 now thats what we want!
Do you know if the £2.50 for 5meg is restricted at all? it seems strange, but id like to try that first before plonking down £45 quid a month
The "wireless web" £2.50 option does not give full http access - but it does cover a lot of popular websites: most of the bbc, ebay.com (but not .co.uk  ) and quite a few others. But
1) 5mb is nothing :?
2) Once you've used it, you can't have anymore until next month, not even for more money
3) Erm, can't VPN on it
just a question ..
I'm french and living currently in uk - was a student and get a nice IT job. So from my pay as you go card I though getting THE exec or whatever name will the cheaper give to it
-> I really think to use VOIP over GPRS ..
Is skype usable with it ?
What the cost such solution ? (only the data on the carrier)
Could the carrier block or put on the contract a restriction on the VOIP ? (From what I get from my friends in France Orange(FR) and some other do)
Same question for IM (aim/msn/icq/jabber) VS SMS
was looking for some comparison on the web to get roughly an idea but didn't get something serious enough.
Q> Is skype usable with it ?
A> No, not the voice part anyway. IM, yes.
Q>What the cost such solution ? (only the data on the carrier) depends on network, but for non-bundle gprs its from £2 per meg to £8 per meg
Q> Could the carrier block or put on the contract a restriction on the VOIP ?
A> Yes, they do block things randomly and not tell you.
Q> Same question for IM (aim/msn/icq/jabber) VS SMS
A> O2 Pay as you go DOES NOT allow anything other than wap and http, all IM and email is blocked. I do not know about other carriers, but ive heard tmobile blocks email too.
Forget Pay as you go for Data, its expensive and slow gprs. You want to use a 3G link to make the most of the universal, so get a vodafone/orange/tmobile datacard tarif with bundled data. I think T-mobile let you make calls at 25p a minute on top of the data bundle, dont know about voice on the others though.
Hope this helps.
o2 isnt 2 bad for gprs i got 50mb for 4 pounds uk and 750 mintes and 150 txt for 25 pounds uk on o2 uk but that was a sim only deal as was going to go for vodaphone quite good really hope they can o somthing for the exec when it comes out
about the IM, I got a Jabber account on a server that get https...
For those who don't know jabber is an open source IM solution and it's not centralised (understand you can build your own server at home and communicate with all the other jabber server in the world - a bit like the mail) The beauty of jabber is the gateways I got AIM/ICQ/YAHOO/IRC/MSN gateway to be able to speak with other protocoles..
So .. I'll chat
it's quite a shame that they block randomly ports or whatever without telling you. I'll explicity ask them and list the price.
please do ask them too; normally 3g is far enough for skype (skype needs 3-5kbps)
Just spoken to T Mobile again - the chap on the end of the phone told me the same £200 and I said "well, I can get an XDA Exec for that on a much better tariff". So they halved it to £100 or free if I go for an 18 month contract. Bargain
That's a £15 + VAT/month tariff, typical spend under £30. They'll call me back as soon as they have a date. I'm hoping that date will be 1st October
"please do ask them too; normally 3g is far enough for skype (skype needs 3-5kbps)"
Id love to hear from anyone who has skype VOICE working on a 3g connection. As far as im aware the latency/ping time etc kill voice over 3g. The total data speed isnt really the issue, its the terrible network!
Id love for it to work, but im pretty sure its IM only and no voice.
Please correct me if you have actual evidence to the contrary

O2 suprisingly good Universal Deals at shop.o2.co.uk

Dear All,
I'm a current XDA I and II owner who has been spending an unhealthy amount of time on the xda-developers forum waiting for the Universal to be announced and then available.
To get right to the point, after considerable analysis I have concluded that O2 is shipping the best value XDA, plus in black it also looks the best IMHO!
To be Specific: (GBP = Pounds sterling)
a) Went to O2 shop website
http://shop.o2.co.uk/shop/o2uk/jsp/handset/SelectHandset.do?paramName=3g
b) choose XDA EXEC, select 12 Month tab, Online 50 contract
c) Phone costs 139.99 GBP
c2) Yes, I'll say that again: Phone costs 139.99 GBP
d) 12 months contract at 19 GBP monthly = 228 GBP
e) Total 12 month committment is about 370 GBP.
f) Customer service say unlocking is 15 GBP
g) Consider the ITS (International Traveller Option) for 3 GBP monthly to reduce the totally outrageous cost of non UK calls to only moderately outrageous.
The best deal I have seen so far. But wait for the potential gotchas:
1. Though I have saved a screen print I was suspicious that the 12 and 18th month contracts had the same online 50 tarrif. Hope not a shop error
2. I was sent an order reference but can't seem to check it online
3. O2 customer support say my order is with the credit checking dept and there may be a problem.
With my naive and optimistic head on I hope O2 will honour my order and I will be a happy and satisfied customer.
regards marcus
PS: it also says: Unlimited free GPRS and i-mode browsing until 31st December 2005 (though when I called customer support they said this was incorrect and are getting back to me Tuesday 18th December 2005)
They still only have the 2MB and 4MB data bundles though by the looks of things.
Not that you would want to risk the deal, but aren't you also free to switch tariffs after 6 months?
V
Could we in the US get that phone, with that plan, pay it in full, and just toddle off? No harm, no foul since paid in full for 12 months. Still a better deal than buying it here locally.

heh - my thoughts exactly..
thats bout 690$ us !! 8)
could be nice ay?
Wow.. ok let me get this sorted in my head.. I can get a HTC Universal for one year for only £367.99? If so why do people pay £669.95 for the JASJAR?
A lot of people don't like getting involved in plans and have carrier locked phones. So they spend the big bucks and buy an unlocked device.
I'd really like to know if US residents can buy this device on the plan mentioned above and pay it in full. Save us about $500-$600 dollars US.
Anyone know?
O2 Online 500 Tarrif
I just got my O2 XDA Exec today and am still waiting for it to charge,
Not sure why they aren`t advertising it on the website but.
O2 have a fantastic tariff offers for new 3G handset customers.
I called the www.o2.co.uk/shop (08702257879) and was sold the "Online 500" package with the O2 XDA Exec handset.
O2 XDA Exec = £139.99
Online 500 = £35 per month (12 month contract)
500 inclusive X-network calls
500 text messages
1mb per month free GPRS
Also took the comprehensive insureance = £4.99 per month
(This phone is so expensive offline. That if I lost\damaged it I doubt that I`d buy it offline)
Noticed the comment on the O2 website about:
"Unlimited free GPRS and i-mode browsing until 31st December 2005"
I asked the sales rep to confirm and he says that if its on the website then its gospal. Also confirmed with O2 customer service.
I don`t think you can find a better Tariff...

I'm pretty sure thats a mistake. Exec isn't an imode phone. So if the imode bit is wrong - the gprs bit is almost certainly wrong as well.
Please tell me how to dial the number from the US........(tech smart, analog phone DUMB)

Hi. I went for the same deal and received it Monday morning The only disappointment is that even after 15mins of haggling, getting them to drop the price and contract rates, 02 couldn’t match it when upgrading my XDAII.
I don’t understand that at all :?

O2 Exec Deals
Just got mine for 109.99. They offered it at 229.99 but after I said I would take out another online deal for 139.99 + 19 per month for 12 months, they came back with this deal on my original contract. I am currently with O2 on contract @30 per month. This is now being reduced to £20 per month for the same minutes etc saving £120 over the year (leaves the phone costing 109.99).
This comes just at the right time for me as I'm testing Exchange SP2 with this device for a few companies that I deal with.
Roll on tomorrow!!!!
It doesn't have the feature pack install, how will you use the Ex 2003 SP2 puch mail without it?
First post so hello all!
I've just bought an XDA for £114.99 plus 12 month contract @ £19 per month.
http://shop.o2.co.uk/student/o2uk/j...tails.jsp?prodID=consumer:O2:XDAExec:3G:GROUP
I'm not a student and there were no eligibility checks.
Alternatively register with Quidco and get £35 off the £139.99 (eventually)
O2 XDA Exec..
I'm a tad confised
On the URL posted above it says "Pc Sync - No"
I 'm assuming that this is incorrect ................
http://shop.o2.co.uk/student/
looks like this is a student offer so they may limit what the device can do
Just placed my order for an XDA Exec from O2 shop too, hopefully it should be with me Saturday morning. I opted for the Online 200 at 30 pounds per month and got the handset for £139.99. I went into an O2 shop after work and although they had 2 in stock, they wanted me to pay more for a contract and still pay £149 for the phone! How ridiculous! Anyhow, I can't wait for my Exec to arrive, I shouldn't be upgrading really as I am only 5 months into an existing contract with my XDA IIs. Figure I can sell that with all the accessories (GPS etc) and break even paying off the rest of my existing contract.
Hope this free GPRS is not a mix up, nobody seems to know for sure, but hey we'll see!

Well a colleague and I have been using O2 GPRS with ActiveSync over the internet to sync with Exchange 2003 for months and still no data charge. So Im pretty sure the no charge deal is still on. It will be painful when it finishes though. I think they just want to hook everyone in.

Er....that's 'cause you're connecting through your PC's internet connection?
Or have I misunderstood?

Is GPRS free on o2 data 5?

As the question states. I have looked at my online bill and my inclusive data MB's has not changed and says I still have all my data available. O2 CS says that the system takes 2 days to process but i phoned a week ago and it still hasn't changed. Anyone have any similar experiences or ideas.
Is this unlimited free GPRS? Hope so
Thanks
Euan
themez2004, don't shout too loud! Lots of people get free GPRS! Don't make too much of a fuss with o2 CS
(I got most of my GPRS free so far, but I am light user)
Sorry, didn't realise that. I just don't want to run up a huge bill at the end of the month and have to pay. So GPRS is free then. Sometimes on my Exec the G changes to a U, does this cost extra when on the net? Thanks
Euan
Just keep checking online, you can see your usage for the current month. Mine still says 0/100 KB used.
Thanks
There are a few topics about this elsewhere , But yes , it seems o2 GPRS is generally never charged for , personally I have not payed a penny in about £18 months
There are usually rumours that o2 will begin charging at some point , the latest deadlines were
End of December - (didn't transpire on my two accounts at least)
May 2006 - possible , but heard it all before , yawn
I Can confirm that it doesn't make a difference whether the mode used is GSM or UMTS ( G or U ) as far as I can tell
I suppose being on the lowest Data tarriff makes it a little easier to swallow , I'd imagine if someone was paying for a high user tarriff and discovered that use was unmonitored they'd be a little upset
They key thing if you are going to abuse , sorry , use  o2 GPRS is to KEEP AN EYE on your usage via the website - otherwise you could end up with a massive bill in the post one day
As soon as they being to charge , you'll notice it coming out of your inclusive allowance , and expect to be charged
Make hay while the sun shines I say

o2 GPRS - Anyone ACTUALLY being charged yet ?

Following on from their threats to begin charging on 31st March (as per other thread )
I can still see no activity on the online bill checker
I'll be a little bit annoyed if they don't charge as threatened now - As I have gone out and bought an MDA Pro with their one of T-mobiles new unlimited web tarrifs to compensate
Anyone noticed they are being charged yet ?
think its from may 2nd onwards when they said they were going to start charging
Some of us were told 2nd May (as you suggest) - and some of us were told 31st March (like me ) but there is nothing moving on the GPRS counter on o2's site yet !
Ah well , now I have two universals and a Vario anyway
If we didn't receive a message stating March or May (I only signed up to o2 in January), then is it safe to assume unlimited free access (based on earlier experiences) or do they even have to tell you that they are now charging? As this is outside what you are supposed to be paying for (ie, their tariffs say you should be paying, with only 100kb free a month - pointless limit as that lasts less than 10 minutes!), then I suppose that they could legitimately charge and backdate if the mood took them?
Does anyone know the official view? I haven't used it this past month much as I became worried that I would be landed with a hefty bill - I even went off and bought a Safecome SDIO Wifi card for home use (another thread, another problem!) after happily having XDAII pda internet access for two months.
Many thanks

Where it used to say "texts , media messages , voice calls," they have now added "UK GPRS Mobile web "

Bit of a coincidence eh ? o2 starting to charge and Tmobile offering the first (reasonably priced) flat rate GPRS deal , all on the same day !

Yup. O2 are increibly slow moving on this and have been caught on the back foot by flext + unlim data.
We charge £75 for unlim data, T-Mob now charge £7.50. Ten times less.
Our new business tariffs are nowhere near as good as T-Mobiles FLEXT accounts.
We're gonna get creamed by T-Mobile, absolutely creamed. I've sold NO phones at all this week, against a target of 2 per day, it's depressing. Business customers need to keep their numbers too, which means going back to Retentions to get it, and retentions ALWAYS beats or matches our prices!
Luckily I got offered a job out of the blue last night, and hooked up with a girl whos a friend of the girl who offered me the job out of the blue as well, AND my HT820 headphones arrived last night, just in time for the new A2DP upgrade for my Exec.... so I'm not complaining too much...

They've started charging me from 30th March!!!!!
They charged me £81 for 30th March and £18 for 31st March!
I've disputed the bill, let's see what happens.
o2 GPRS
You should be ok, I have just recently joined the wonderful ranks of T mobile flext + web n walk (25% discount on the flext 30 so £22.50 and if you sign up the web n walk for the term on taking out the contract its only £5.60ish pm). Bur before I was on o2 enjoying the benefits of free GPRS.
What I did was keep phoning customer services about once a month and noted who i spoke to, the date and time, and got them to confirm it was still free and that they would inform us by post or text if they were to start charging.
Of course they didn't, and one day I received a hefty bill (as expected). I phoned them up and quoted each person I had spoken to, the date ,the time and what they had actually said and they just couldn't argue. After a bit of debating they decided to let it drop
Good ol' T-mob, thats what I say !!!

I'k simply not giving them the money they're asking for for the data. Why should we have to run round circles coz they're ****wits?
The CS girl asked me to fax my bill etc etc, but why should I? I'm gonna email cs again, tell them the score, get them to SORT it. I've canceled the DD, so they can whistle.
o2 GPRS
I should have said that i've experienced loads of hassle with o2 CS in the past, which is the reason why I noted everything.
The only reson I stayed with them last time was because they "made me an offer i couldn't refuse." When they said that this year, I told them to stick it where the sun don't shine.
T mobile are definately on to a winner with flext and web n walk. I've been after a tariff like this in years. Also, their coverage is up with the best now too.!!

Yeah, in June, when the Vario II is likely released, I'll be six months into my 1 year with O2. Thank God I didn't let the appeal of free texts and minutes sway me to an 18 month contract. I'll then simply reduce to the lowest tariff*, and once that's implemented, I'll buy it out.
In the meantime, I'll get the Vario II from T-Mobile on the Relax+webwalk tariff, since I only ever do 1 year deals
The incompetence of O2 will be a distant memory. I can only hope that T-Mobile aren't equally stupid.
* Would I have to give 28/30 days notice for this?
Re: o2 GPRS
Double post - getting a lot of "phpBB : Critical Error Could not connect to the database" recently....
Someone on the MSE forum has just been billed for £370 of GPRS (backdated  - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=194449). I notice that my online unbilled calls area is showing 100KB used when it hasn't recorded anything before (since January).
Do they have to tell you that they are now recording data usage? I suppose they will claim they don't need to as they never said it was free anyway .

In my case they DID say it was free. Your friend there should not have b4een charged for data on 29th, 30th, and 31st March. He should query that, refuse to pay it, like I did.
I just got hit for £160
I just got hit for £160 for gprs as my audible air kicked in and went on a downloading spree.

Bother!
Just noticed a new heading has appeared on my online bill this month. Under "Unbilled Usage" it has another heading "Unbilled Usage to Date" - clicking on that now shows UK GPRS Mobile web - spent £30 last month without even realising it (as it has been free in previous months). No text message notifying me of this.
Ah well, end of that then .

Same here, but 71 Quid!! rang up, o2 cs very helpful, but were Not going to cancel payment . so after thinking about it, if the money is taken, i will cancel contract, pay remaining contract amount & take my custom elsewhere. what do you think? any better ideas?

X1 on O2: Deal or no deal?

Hiya,
I've been offered the following by O2 upgrades:
X1/Serra collect from O2 store (because no stock available over the phone).
Pay £48 ish for the handset.
£45 tariff reduced to £30 per month - includes the unlimited web bolt on.
18 month contract.
Whatcha rekon - do I collect tomorrow, or wait for a bit more off in the new year?!
I have the exact same contract with O2/Carphone Warehouse. I'm afraid O2 have turned a little stingy over the past year and from what i have heard, this will be the best deal that you are going to get from them.
I didnt pay for the handset tho, i asked for my porting no. and was put through to the retention dept.
Be warned that the paragraph at the end of the script that they read to you (the bit that they tell you doesnt matter and they fly through) contains details of the unlimited web bolt on, not only does it not take effect until the beginning of your next billing period, it is limited to 200MB a month.
I didnt catch this and have just been stung with a huge bill for web useage, i didnt DL much but they charge £3 per MB...........STOP THEIF!!!!!
Aside from that i am pleased with the deal and i think the phone is stunning (stock ROM is pants tho so i installed a cooked ROM and its mustard)
Good luck,
Creamy
as far as i knew o2 would first have to inform you that you were breaking their fair use policy before being able to charge you for extra usage, if you've been charged i'd be onto customer services like a shot!
As for the new tarriff starting, if your current contract has expired then they can move you over in 24-48 hours (and that includes the bolt on), i know this as i waited for an x1 (making me out of contract), and by the time it arrived i could see online that i had unlimited web...
the £3 per day is atrocious tho, their new contracts have a maximum daily limit (i think its £1) so after you pay a pound you get unlimited data! Last year they got a few quid out of me due to browsing tho
Picked up my X1 today.
Thanks for the info.
I've spoken to them in the past - I've been told that 'unlimited' means unlimited, as long as I don't go mad and break their 'fair usage policy'.
I've picked up my X1 today - it comes with a 4GB Micro SD! Woohoo.
Much faster than my Orbit 2, and there's a lot more memory available to programs etc.
Keyboard seems nice - I'm waiting for my sim to transfer over before I get emailing properly, but feels promising so far.
good luck
have fun with your new toy

I had the same offer and they put it on the system as a £15 a month discount. You can then drop to £20 a month (after discount) in 9 months if you wanted to aswell

I see! Thanks for the heads up.
I've got this thing going now... not too bad for typing. Waaaay better than the orbit II.
Opera works but not as well as the version I had installed on my orbit.
Skype messenger etc work fine... but my version of TomTom doesn't want to load up properly.
PS how do i find out what week of production this machine is from. I'm interested in whether it's from one of the cursed batches!
