MMC card reg keys - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Looking through the registry I found some keys mentioning MMC cards. The one that caught my eye though was this one
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\SDCARD\Client\Drivers\Class\MMC_Class
Underneath that key is one for SD so I'm thinking that maybe MMC cards can be used in the wizard would anyone agree?

how would you fit it in. wizard uses mini-sd.

MMC, SD and MiniSD have mostly the same pinouts.
Even if MiniSD have a different form factor, you can make an adaptor.
This adaptor could be usefull to plug SD or MMC card in a MiniSD slot.

These are standard Windows Mobile keys, so they are not specificly for the Wizard. Theoretically you could plug in a MMC card and use it, but it won't fit.

8Gig SDHC cards do NOT work in the Prophet

Not that I think the above is really that surprising, but I bought a 8gig SDHC card for my camera (which IS SDHC compliant) and tried the card in the Prophet and it did not work/read/attempt to format etc... it did NOTHING with it...
So for those wondering/searching NO -- it doesn't work :-(
sdhc in registry
surprisingly though there is a key in the registry under drivers named sdhc. Maybe it means something else.
Oh good. One less thing to spend my money on
The "sdhc" in Windows Mobile stands for "SDIO Host Controller". So, nope, it's not SDHC we want.
SDHC is in the registry
HKLM->Drivers->BuiltIn->SDHC
I would believe that if the SDHC.dll is updated to SD 2.0, our device would be working with the 8GB SDHC card.
Has M$ updated that driver yet?
[Treo 680 works with 8GB SDHC. When that driver (Palm OS) is copied to Treo 700p, that makes the device work with 8GB too.]
There might be two hurdles sdhc.dll (MS) and omap850_sdhc.dll (HTC/TI). So even if MS updates WM to support SDHC cards, I think the hardware driver must be updated too.
8 gb-> four 2 gb?

How about formating the card in the PC and splitting into four 2 gb partitions? Try that, may be that would work. You can also try few different media cards software to create the right partitions. just google it for the software.
Hope it works for you.
Best Regards,
Partitioning would probably not remedy SDHC issue
It's possible to partition a SDHC card into 2GBx4 or 4GBx2 but it would not change anything because the CSD (card specific data) is different on SDHC cards and the device should be able to interpret it before recognizing the partitions.
The prohet is incompatible with SDHC it can not read its CSD. The CSD is outside user accessible area and this is the device driver that reads it to understand what is the capacity, manufacturer ID and serial number of the card.
I suggest to never buy SDHC cards for prophet and use standard 4GB Transcend or Ridata cards.
Do not buy any 4GB SD card of brands not registered to sdcard.org and avoid fake Sandisk's as well.
makes sence.. my idea wasn't thought trough..

Why 2 partitions? I have the Transcend 4gb SD. I formatted it on my PC using XP to one large 4gb drive and it works flawlessly. You might want to copy the data off of it and reformat it.
because , when open aplication from sd, some time the pda is block and i have get out the SD CARD , and get in too , for unblock.
SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH.

When I open the applications in the SD, the pda shields herself and I have to extract the SD and return to introduce her to unblock.

Are you sure the card can be detected properly? do you have a sd card reader to see if windows can detect?
I don't have SD reader
No, i don't have a sd card reader to use with the computer to verify the card, but the sd card is a Kingstom standard mini sd card with him adapter to SD.
The card isn't reconigzed by the prophet and isn't reconigzed by the magician.
The type and size have problems with this models of XDA?
My guess is that the mini-sd to sd card adapter is busted. you should double check with another device to be sure. I doubt sd slot on the pda is busted (have you tried another sd card?). I've used a 2gig sandisk mini-sd car with an adapter in my dopod818pro no problems.
my miniSD adapter is a bit.. wacky. Try this.
Take both of them out.
Take the miniSD out of the adapter
Reinsert it, firmly but not too 'pushy'.
Now, the trick here, when you insert both of then into your phone, try not to push it on the miniSD, instead, push it on both side of the adaptor (eg ONLY touch the adapter when pushing into the phone, and balance it (left and right)).

Sandisk 4Gb read-only on PC

I recently purchased a Sandisk 4Gb microsd card for use with the Tytn II. The card works correctly on the Tytn. I wanted to transfer a large file to the card by means of the card reader sddr-113 that came with the card. I plugged the microsd card into the sd adapter, put the latter into the card reader, and plugged the card reader into the usb port of the PC.
On trying to write the file to the card an error message popped up saying the card was read-only. I double-checked that the read-only tab on the sd adapter was in the correct position to enable writing but the error persisted. I formatted the card on the Tytn but to no avail. Sandisk support does not list any known issues.
Knowing that several users have purchased a similar card for the Tytn II, has anyone encountered such problems, and is there any fix/workaround? Thanks.
EDIT: Note that there is no problem reading files from the card on the PC. Transfer speed in this case seems quite good. MY PC is WinXP.
You might check the microSD adapter. The adapters that are a std sized SD card have the small "read only" switch on the side of the card, you may have bumped it. Mine isn't even labeled, it should be switched forward, towards the gold contacts.
Good luck.

As I said, I checked that the read-only switch was in the right position. That said the adapter may be defective, and I'll try to put the microSd into another adapter. However any news from others with possible the same problem will serve to see if mine is an isolated case or not.
Oops, sorry, yup I'd try a different adapter, they're pretty cheap/fragile. I have only seen this once, on a friends card. The tip is that the native microSd card is writeable in another device so it really points to the adapter.
I am also experiencing this issue with the exact same card & adapter.
GRRR it really take age to copy data across active sync...

I had this problem as well. I later found that my PC wanted me to format the card when reading it with the adapter. Luckily my card didn't have anything important on it at the time. When I pulled the card to use it in my Tilt, the new device couldn't read it either.
I was able to use the card & adapter with a program found in a post on this forum to repair my corrupted card.

Can the Advantage use a card reader?

I'm interested in using the Advantage to have as a mini laptop/phone access/gps and camera card backup device.
As such it would be spot on, small enough to fit in my rucksack but usable in the field.
But can you use a USB or other card reader to backup CF cards to the 8/16gb internal memory?
Edit: Just going to change me request, to who has tried a card reader? As i know it "should" work with one but who has?
Works fine on mine, using a cheap sd card reader.
Its CF cards i'm interested in. So i can back up my SLR images to the 8gb internal drive. Do you know if those work?
Well, I said cheap SD reader, but it's actually one of those multi card readers, and it has a CF slot as well. I don't use CF cards so can't test that, but the Athena reads SD, MMC and Sony Pro Duo cards through it fine, so I have no reason to believe that CF cards won't work.

I wonder if it could be that the CF cards sucks more power, then if we use a card reader with an external power source, do you think that would work?
...
Ouch, hmm that could be a killer for me. Thanks for looking though its most appreciated.
Well I used the same reader and CF on my host pc and it works fine.
It's either a power issue or because the 7501 doesn't have a driver
relating to the reading of CFs.
The 7501 should read CF cards just fine - it's more likely a power issue or a FAT issue. I've just tested a few of my cards and found something interesting (I'm using the Dopod U1000) - the Athena will only read one external volume at a time. This was tested with a 4GB Sandisk M2 card with Memory Stick adapter, 2GB Transcend SD (SDIO1.0) card, and 1GB Transcend CF card, through two different multi-card readers, and with both the 4-in-1 cable and dock. All of the cards could be read, but only one at a time. A soft reset was also occasionally required.
This was surprising to me, because I once attached three FAT32 external HDDs to a Pocket Loox 720, and damn me if it didn't mount and read all three. Me being the curious type, I put both card readers through a powered hub and attached that to the Athena - same thing, only one card from one card reader could be read at any one time. I tried the same experiment on my Loox, and it also mounted only one card per card reader, but both card readers could be used at the same time. Just for fun, I added a usb flash drive and an independently powered 40GB FAT32 desktop drive in an external case, both mounted and could be read as well - I had Hard Disk 1 through 4 in File Explorer. At a guess, I'd say the one external volume limit is a problem with the Athena's mass storage driver, or something in the registry.
I also tried an 8GB Seagate ST1.2 CF Microdrive which couldn't be read in any configuration, with or without independent power to the card readers - as this card requires much more power than flash based CF, I'm not too surprised. I have an 8GB CF at home I'll try out later.

I've tried this card with both my card readers - it works just fine. I don't know what's going on with bigtsr's card, but my (flash-based) CF cards all appear to work.

Multiple Micro-SD cards..

Anyone have the knowledge to use multiple Micro-SD cards in the BA,
using an switch and and Micro-SD bridge?
Would be great if we could use more then one SD and up the available space.
Or maybe add two Micro-SD's to one adapter.
hmmm, intresting idea.
but i think the maximum space will be 4gb, due the fact that there is no SDHC driver for BA...
seems to be some kind of fat 16/32 problem.
could you post a link or a picture of the product you plan on using, i can't really picture it.
but if you already have something like that, you could also explain the way it works with a pc card reader.
here are some options i could imagine:
1. if you can combine 2 cards to some sort of raid system offering you one partition from 2 cards, it wouldn't work because of the maximum partition size.
2. if you actually switch between the cards and both are 4gb max, i could imagine that it works, on the other hand, when letting an adaptor for mini-sd or micro-sd in and just change the "small" inside card, it does not recognize the change. also, that wouldn't be such a great advantage in storage space, just a better way to carry a 2nd card.
3. if it combines 2 cards for permanent use of both and they are presented as 2 different partitions, it just might work, as the BA also supports several partitions on one sd card, and that way, data traffic between the 2 cards would also be possible.
also, i have to throw in: the fat16/32 in this case just influences the maximum file size, not the partition size. if the ba could just read fat16, you could simply make several 4gb partitions on a sdhc card ...if there was a sdhc driver.
There are a few card adapters for Stick Pro Duo that are for dual microSD cards. I don't think I have ever seen it for microSD to SD.
Hey Chef, here is a link for that
http://www.amazon.com/MicroSD-MicroSDHC-Adapter-Converts-Cards/dp/B001RPEJA4
It is a pretty nice idea and probably the BA will just see it as another drive (ie Storage Card1 and Storage Card2).
Those MicroSD > MS adapters look very interesting indeed.
Something like that would be great for SD as well. Havn't found anything though.
That is rather interesting..
But I think we are going to have to be creative here, and
make one our self.
Before attaching, and possibly destroying, some cards I would like some more information if possible.
Will/can the adapter detect them as two cards if we connect them together. Detect them as two partitions..
Or will it mess up completely.(Possibly) The BA can handle more memory, and will rename it's location accordingly that's for sure, but through an standard SD bridge..?
Can the internal bridge handle more then one device at a time..?
External: TV, GPS, Radio, Camera, WiFi ect. can be used with the SDIO interface, so it may be possible along those lines,
