Hi guys I hope im just confusing myself! While reading some reviews I came across the tool spb benchmark, and thought il give it a try.
I received my xda exec today iv not installed any other 3rd party software that could cause problems
my Blueangel M2000: I have formatted it and reinstalled windows 2003 (Original ROM from orange)
IV attached a screen shot of the results table
the results are confusing the hellouta me, acording to the site(from my understanding) the higher the result the better the device has preformed- can som one just put my fears to rest please
Can anyone else substantiate this????
If this is the case I'd certainly like to know how, why what rom versions were involved, whether or not hardware used in both devices can be verified as the same hardware...
Who benchmarked the 2 devices?????

The comparison is extremely unfair. If you put 8GB of RAM inside your PC, made a RAMDrive, and installed Windows XP into that, it would be far faster than if XP was installed on a hard disk. But you would lose ALL your data if the power source got interrupted.
That analogy is the same when comparing WM5 devices to WM2003SE devices. WM2003SE is installed into RAM, WM5 is installed into flash (persistent storage). Flash storage is a lot slower than RAM, but it uses a LOT less battery power than RAM, and you lose nothing if the battery dies. This is clearly a far more sensible and superior way of doing things, but at the expense of some speed.
I know which I'd rather have - more battery life and built-in NAND flash storage every time.
'disk' i/o is going to be worse because of the persistant storage. Writing to flash is much slower than to RAM.
Can't understand why the cpu rated much worse though.
Could this be partly because the Exec does NOT have a dedicated ATI chipset for GFX, hence the CPU is always worrying about the display.
Obviously a completely similar machine with ATI graphics chip would be quicker, so i expect that makes a difference even when you think all the apps are closed.
This seems to be the case, just received my exec and in comparison to my xda IIi it does seem a lot more sluggish. Even web browsing using both gprs & 3g is slower.
Is this a common issue or rom specifc?

I could play smooth realtime on my Himalaya (XDAII) but now? Damn, I cant play it at all. its painfull.....
Going to try Pocket Hack Master to see if that fixes it.

I need a new smartphone and I love the HTC devices.
I've been reading a lot of data charts lately and I'm really confused.
WHY IN THE WORLD did they cut magicians processor power in halfs when they built his successor charmer??
Magician has an Intel XScale Prozessor Bulverde with 416 MHz. That's about the power I'm looking for. But they downgraded Charmer to a Texas Instruments OMAP 850 Prozessor with ridiculously 206 MHz.
My old beloved Wallaby has almost more power!
Can anybody explain this decision?
I didn't find any benchmark tests of charmer on the internet. Magician's benchmarks are awesome for his size and high enough to play pocket quake or watch unconverted videos, but it seems nowbody is testing Charmer.
Any people here with a Charmer who want to run SPB benchmark (http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/benchmark/?en) for me and post the results? or just tell me how many fps unvonverted .avi movies give you.

Hey. The charmer has about 1000 SPB benchmark points, the Magician around 1600. That's a fact, also for the Wizard and the Prophet. A good alternative could be the Hermes which comes out soon and has the Samsung 400 MHz CPU.
There are Magician benchmark, which is approx 1,200 (I've got that from http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=54370&highlight=). ). As for the Charmer, it is way way way lower than that. See the chart

The only thing Charmer is good at seems to be the graphics. But there is a benchmark on charmer regarding video playback, which is still not as good as the Magician, which I suspect because of the low bandwidth of the Charmer's file I/O.

Any idea why they sacrificed so much power?
the data charts don't really say something about great improvement in batery life due to the slower CPU, which appears to be the only logical reason to downgrade a CPU in a PDA.
why did they do that? the charmer seemed so promising perfect with WM 5, long batery life and small size....

The charmer is a rediculous device as the successor of the Magician.

Another probable reason for the lack in speed in Charmer probably due to the persistant flash memory (doesn't need battery to keep the data) which is usually slower than the non-persistant ones. Think of it as having SD as storage for the Charmer. Someone ought to do a test on Wizard and compare Charmer against Wizard.
I think they reduce the processor speed in order to increase the battery life... because most of the times, fast processor consumes battery life as well. we can see from iPAQ h6365 where it uses 168MHz processor. battery life was very good (apart from its 1800Mah battery, of course)

the charmer and the prophet are designed as fones with ppc capabilities.
ppc battery life is a day or less, the charmer et al several days.
all depends on what you want the device for really, sometimes the lack of speed frustrates me, but the ability to go days between charges doesnt
Any one knwos the battery life of the Magician? My Charmer last only like 3-4 days with average 1/2 hours of talk and some basic usage, 24 hours phone on - standby
MY MAGICIAN (o2 XDAII mini) can only last for maximum 2 days...
And it 's very unstable when battery is getting low ...
Thoughts: Slower CPU and higher capacity battery seems to be the only solution to extend the battery life.... I rather charge every day and have a faster device

do you know any company who sells them with contracts in germany? I have problems finding carriers outside england on google or ebay.
I guess hermes will take another month (or two).

The Hermes has everything besides GPS that the Trinity will have. It doesn't feature normal SD cards as well, that may have been a reason for me to wait. Integrated GPS is useless in my opinion. The integrated reveivers have bad connection quality and all maps that you can get for navigation software are only working well for car navigation - my car has enough space for a Bluetooth GPS mouse. No need to wait if you ask me.
OK, but HTC Hermes is not HTC Magician form factor. It has a keyboard and is much heavier and thicker. It compares to the HTC Wizard.
The HTC Prophet I will skip, it is the same form factor as Magician, but has a slow CPU and no UMTS/HSDPA.
And to bring you up to date: in those new devices is an "A-GPS" which means "assisted GPS". This means, GPS data is supported by localization data from the mobile network. That results in a much quicker first satellite fix and equals out some disadvantages of these small GPS chips. However, if your mobile network provider does not support A-GPS, you have a weaker GPS reception than with state of the art GPS mouses.

Mh, ok. I will see how much the difference is in my pocket. I think it weighs 30 grams more than the Magician and is about 5 mm thicker. I think I can live with that, especially because I'd like to have a keyboard and I don't want to wait anymore

Ok, you're right, assuming your provider supports A-GPS (additional costs?). But still there is the point with the standard navigation software which just isn't suited for navigation by foot or by bike. For the car, I can use a GPS mouse without any disadvantage (I already have one anyway). Personally, I don't see a good reason to wait for the Trinity.
omap 850 isn't slow!!! intel xscale is only 416 Mhz arm9 core while omap is an 195 mhz arm9 combined vith 67,5Mhz arm7 mcu(mcu speeds up the main core cause it controles ram instead of main core) so 195 mhz omap is aprox. or more 312 mhz of xscale, it also has 100 MHZ integer and floating point core and 2d accelator.....
So you say charmer is actually faster than magician? I'm having a dilema between these two, don't know which to buy? But would prefer faster...

Why niki is slow?? This is my question... I have an older qtek 2020 and it's very faster than niki... why??
video drivers... install a rom with the s600 driver already on it, trust me, its wayyyy faster.

I can only compare it to my S110, its a little faster in certain things, but slower in games and emulation, not that much slower... just enought to be noticed.

In that we agree... My S100 from 2003 is much faster than this, but because it was that old it had a lot of other problems, the battery was starting to fail, a side button was broken and couldnt be easily fixed, some newer programs werent wm2003 compatible, etc...
Its sad that most new phones are so below the old ones, and the few that are better are unreasonably expensive.
I can still buy a brand new S110 for about 100/150€ with 416mhz, 128 of ram and 128 of rom, and thanks to wm2003 i can have a wooping free ram of 90mb (depending if its the s100 or s110) and the video card works fine, so everything is smooth.
The design, sound and camera of the dual are obviously superior, plus it can have 3g internet, but it costs 4 times more than the S110.
Just sad...

Almost twice as fast, you mean 600mHz versus 400mHz ....
The Niki has proper hardware acceleration, its just the muppets at HTC that haven't bothered to use it in any way, shape or form.
Tought iphone was about 750 mhz
Anyways, a Niki doesnt have drivers wich we all know, but compare ANY wm5 or wm6 mobile to a wm2003 or even older(!) device, and the older one outperforms the newer one. WM2003 devices use sdram, and newer ones mostly flash memory, wich is way slower (because a wm2003 device couldnt be turned of because of the ram memory that loses it's storage). So every program that writes or reads often from the memory is considerable slower on wm6 than on wm2003. But if you compare a wizard to a nike, the nike's way faster because of it's cpu.
Hello to all Streak owners
I've just bought a Streak that requires a new screen, and whilst replacing that I will be looking into replacing / upgrading the 2gb internal Micro SD card.
Now I've read some threads on here and believe you have to set it up correctly as it only recognises 2gb at a time, but thats not my query now, I'll find the info and if not then I'll post for help.

My question is with Micro SD cards getting ever cheaper, and faster, higher performance ones dropping also in price, is it worth going in for these faster, higher performance cards???
Either for general Micro SD storage or internal storage, replacing the 2gb.
I know it seems common sense, by putting a faster or higher performance card in, should make it faster. But...

Can the Streak make full use of the higher performance, faster cards?
When do you reach the point of overkill, or diminishing returns?
Can the streak support higher speed technology? (I believe I read somewhere that in fact the lower class cards were faster, although I don't understand this) If this is correct, someone please explain...
Ideally I'd like to know what is the fastest card the Streak can make use of? And what Micro SD technologies it can support?
Also if anyone has real world speeds for cards, (as I understand, often the numbers, classes manufacturers quote often mean nothing, compared to how they actually perform) or preferred manufacturers they could recommend, or links to tests, benchmarks, reviews etc.

Keep this in mind: at a certian point even if the card is compatable, the controller on the device itself will eventually be the bottleneck. Would this be the case? I have no idea, but adding in a faster card then the stock one has shown benefits.
First time when I've ordered Moto X Play (XT1562) with 16 GB of internal storage, it did show 11 GB of available storage. However, due to display defect, I had to return it and get an replacement which has 10.89 GB of available storage.
I've received the replacement before sending the actual defective one. I've tried to check what's different, but I couldn't find anything else except for storage availability difference. Both were Lollipop 5.1.1 with identical kernel and firmware version (both were "reteu" and single SIM). As I didn't know about accessing recovery mode before returning the defective one, I don't know was there any difference in recovery information.
Performance seems to be identical, both were still causing identical lags. Even after upgrading to marshmallow with my current replacement, it's still stuttering while scrolling. It still doesn't feel fully optimized.
I didn't post this before as I thought that this wasn't a big deal, but I want to know what was the difference between storage availability. Does anyone have Moto X Play with 11 GB of available storage? I saw some people having 10.89 GB, but no one having 11 GB. Please check size of your available internal memory storage and give some details if possible. Along with that, vote if you have 16 GB model (If you have 32 GB, don't vote for other value).
What happened to 0.11 GB of storage? Is it anyhow possible to get it back?

I'd imagine it's the same as anything, all chips are made to a certain spec and not all are bang on. They have tolerances, some maybe 11 and others maybe 10.89 and some may even 11.10 or something. It's the same with CPUs, not all chips are identical I the same range. This is why we CPUs can be over clocked much further than another CPU that is the same model number.
If after a few days you don't see a noticeable performance difference, I'd suggest performing a factory reset. If it still persists, I would send the pone back. Mine went from noticeable lag to occasional stutter (fairly rare, just could be equated to background tasks running).

It's not the same as CPUs.
If you have two same phone models with same CPUs with advertised clock speed at 1 GHz for example, and then you notice that they underclocked it at 800MHz on one phone due to possible instability with higher clock, wouldn't that be unfair?
You can't just sell something advertised with higher specifications and then sell it with lower specifications.
On contrary, if the manufacturer manages to get higher clock on some CPUs, they would sell those as different model with higher advertised clock speed. The example for that would be MSM7227 (600MHz) and MSM7227-1 Turbo (800MHz, same as MSM7227, but works with higher clocks). Some models only use the first one, while other ones use the second one. Two different phone models can have different CPUs, but two same phone models cannot.
It's still 11 and 10.89 GB. No one mentioned anything more or less yet.
You're suggesting something that I didn't ask for. I don't need help with my phone. I need help with finding out what is causing this and is there anything possible to do something with it.

I've already said there was no difference between both phones I had. Same region, both had only single sim slot.
Further note:
I've decided to check with file explorer to see actual partition sizes:
/data: 10.89 GB
/system: 2.57 GB
/cache: 0.73 GB
Total: ~14.19 GB
In case that others have 11 GB of /data, then that would be ~14.3 GB in total for them.
If you can, check /system and /cache partition sizes to see if you get in total about 14.3 GB.

I wasn't trying to be rude, just trying to explain that there are tolerances in ICs that are followed. They have gotten a lot better than when CPUs were first being built, I understand that. But there are still tolerances. I very rarely see two Memory ICs with the EXACT same storage size. There are sections of the disk used for error correction that we don't even see in the storage size.
If you are unhappy with my response, that's cool. I won't be responding anymore.
