I recenetly purchased the XaX case, with the magnetic fastnings, now im having a dilemma..
when out the case or in the one supplied, everythings hunky dorey
but, when i use the XaX case, the device gets very warm, and the battery drains EXXXXXXTREMLY quickly, like 2hrs on a full charge.
can anyone help me with this, is it sopmething to do with the magnets?
With 3g phones, this is usually an indication of a poor 3g signal, and the phone constantly switching between 3g and 2.5g.
What is your signal like normally, would you have the same issue if the Universal was in an inside coat pocket. I'd imagine for magnets to interfere with a reception in this way, they would have to be pretty strong, but I guess it's not impossible, depending on their location in relevance to the internal antenna.
Does the phone recieve calls ok if inside the case?
Mine did this the other day, the device was very hot and battery was completely flat after about an hour, was on around 60-70% charge when I had last put it down, and it was in the normal supplied case. But I do notice that my 3g does keep coming and going. Someone else suggested this was a camera fault, but I have not been able to repeat this yet despite trying, so I am seeing how it goes, I thought the battery had failed but now I am not so sure.

i seem to have pretty good signal, and 90% of the time stays in 3G, it just baffles me, as it was ok in the other case (supplied) or in my pocket, yet in the XaX it just fries the batteries... where abouts is the internal attena on the jasjar, on the back half way up?
SOLUTION
i just bought xax magnet case, and have also encounter the same battery draining problem. the only solution i found is if u put the phone in a different way than it was intended. Originally the case was design with the camera facing the SD card slots and the Speaker facing down. However i found if the camera was facing away from the body and having the ear piece side facing the SD holder while the speaker still facing down. The Device will not encounter battery draining problem. With the camera facing u, purely on standby the device will drain about 3-4% every 15 minute and the device will heat up. however if u face the camera away from ur body the battery will only drain 1 % every 15 minute or if any but it will maintain normal temp. these result are based on countless of tests ive conducted. the only down side of the putting the phone in this way is the speaker wont line up properly with the holes which was cut originally but i believe it's a small price to pay for the longer battery life.
I had the none belt version, although I didn't get the battery drain (although to be honest, I didn't have it that long, it's been sent back for a refund) I did find another problem with it.
Push the Universal fully in, so that it is flush, and I find the screen auto rotate to portrait mode regardless :| pull it out 1cm or shove something inbetween the case and the back of the universal and it fine
so decided to get a Piel Frama case instead
bball4life, thanks i owe u big time, ur solution rawked!!
it worked and everything is hunky dorey, must have something to do with the magnets next to the battery
cheers mate
no worry elmo just glade i could help out. i know how it feel when u spend money on a case but it does more than Protect the phone
I just had the heating and battery drain issue yesterday and fortunately found this post.
I have tried the "turn it around" solution and so far so good, though it hasn't been really tested yet.

This was my first thought too, but isn't the battery closer to the magnets when the camera is facing out (the solution method) as opposed to in (the "normal" way)?
hmmmmmmmmmmm thats true, maybe it was close the antenna, causing it to keep disrupting the signal. who knows...
any ideas anyone?
My XAX case has 2 holes at the bottom for the speakers so the correct way round is with the battery away from the magnets and speakers showing thru the holes. Well that's the way I think it was meant to be used.
Can't say if my battery life has been shortened but it's not draining perceivably faster, and the XDA is not getting hot.
wOw!!! How bizzare, the EXEC has had its first long time outing today with the new XAX case and it did exactly as what was described in the original post. spent 2 hours on a train hopeing to catch up on some reading of ebooks but couldn't as it just kept draining (return journey i was on 2% even with power levels set to minimum)
Never occured to me that it might be the case. So people reckon its because of the magnets then??? didn't realise that they could affect the battery
I had the XaX case, didn't notice any battery problems, but it fell apart after two days.
The holder just slid off the belt clip.
I'd suggest you all check it, I only just noticed mine slipping in time.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll certainly keep an eye on it. Mine still appears very secure and I've had it for a couple of months. Maybe you had a defective one? Did you contact XaX about it?
XAX Belt Clip case still drains the Qtek 9000 battery
The solution mentioned in this forum did not work for me, no matter how i place the PDA in the XAX case it still drains the battery. Here is the problem:
I have noticed a serious and unacceptable defect with the “XaX Leather Case w/Belt Clip for Qtek 9000 (Black)”. It seems that the magnetic fastening system of the XAX case is draining the battery of the Qtek 9000. The tests were performed as follows to identify the exact nature of the problem:
1. I charged the Qtek 9000 to where the battery displayed a 100% FULL charge.
2. I put the Qtek 9000 PDA into the XAX Case mentioned above on a desk in our office.
3. After a few hours (approximately 4 hours) I checked the Qtek 9000 and noticed that the PDA had a very low battery warning.
4. In order to verify that it was a problem with XAX case, I did the exact same steps as mentioned above WITHOUT putting the Qtek 9000 in the XAX case, instead I left it without the case on the desk (same place exactly). After 4-6 hours, the Qtek 9000 battery was still charged as it would normally be when it was not in the XAX case.
The above tests were performed on numerous occasions and I verified that the XAX case for the Qtek 9000 has flaw, where the magnetic fastening mechanism is rapidly draining the Qtek 9000’s battery (and possibly making the PDA loose some data from the SD card).
PLEASE HELP, do I need to throw away the XAX Case?
Well my XAX case is being used everyday and is not draining my battery!
Is it perhaps the case that when encased your pda is doing something that it does not do when not encased.
Have you for example tried putting it in a drawer to simulate the effect of a weaker signal?
Do you have bluetooth and wireless running?
Steve
Actually incased or not, i did a few tries where i put the PDA on the exact same spot for 5 hours (without the XAX Case) and all was normal battery was still charged, and after that all i did was to put the PDA in the XAX case (PDA closed and nothing running etc) in the SAME EXACT spot where the only difference was the XAX Case covering the PDA, and after 4 hours the battery was very low. It is absolutely clear to me that the 4 magnets in magnetic fastening system of the XAX case is doing something to the PDA, to where the result is a drain in the battery. By the way do you have this exact case: “XaX Leather Case w/Belt Clip for Qtek 9000 (Black)”?
This is the one I bought:
http://www.clove.co.uk/products/accessories.asp?strAreaNo=404&intElement=25824
Yes this is the exact same case (i paid more for mine on Expansys http://www.expansys.it/product.asp?code=126026 ). Are you putting the PDA as originally designed -> the case was designed with the camera facing the SD card slots (your body) and the Speakers facing down through the holes of XAX Case? If yes then are you sure that if you have it charged at 100% and you put it in the case for 6 hours, the battery of the PDA is still OK? I am surprized as i did nothing more than put the PDA in the case and it lost the battery charge, without the case all is normal??? Strange?

hi, Just have to tell you about a weird fault with my XDA2. Last november I dropped my XDA2, and it was replaced under the Silver insurance that O2 offer. Since receiving the new unit, I have had random Hard Resets due to a totally discharged battery. I changed the battery but still the same problems. I had to check my charge level very frequently and put on-charge to prevent wipe-outs. This morning I noticed that as I put my phone in my pocket it was vibrating very weakly. It would stop if the phone was turned upright, or laid flat on its back. If the phone is placed on its left edge and given a slight tap on the connector end it will start to vibrate, whether the unit is off, on. Ah-Ha, this must be the culprit. The vibrator is very battery hungry even though the vibration is weak. I have sent it back for repair. Really pissed as I have to use my old nokia 3650 till it comes back!
Anyone else had this problem. Clearly a short of some kind....
Jerry,
I have had this problem recently. MyXDA2 is secondhand so not sure of its history. The bottom of my unit kept getting very hot, very worrying. I narrowed it down to the vibtator, which is now electrically disconnected. Watch this spot to see if it is curred.
Fred
Hi Derf. My XDA2 didn't get hot, but I reckon there is a weak spot regarding the wiring of the vibrator. In my case it may be shorting through to a low current track causing the motor to run, in your case it may plain shorting out. Not nice at all. I would have tried to attempt a repair on mine, but it is insured and I didn't want to invalidate the guarantee. Good luck with sorting yours.
Jerry,
Just an update on the vibrator problem. It has been about 4 weeks now and I've had no probs at all. I will investigate if it is a PCB problem or vibrator fault. I suspect PCB as I have never turned the vibrate function on on purpose.
Fred
I have a JasJar I got at PDC. I've left it several times overnight only to find the battery has gone dead. I wonder if it has something to do with the new case I have for it (a Roots leather case with a velcro snap), which clasps the unit rather closely.
Has anyone noticed anything similar?
Hi all,
I recently bought the TyTN to replace a SE P900 and make the move to WM5. This is a really impressive piece of kit and I am following this forum regularly now to make this device really work for me. I use the phone an awful lot during the day so I tend to charge it whenever possible. Whilst I am sat at my desk rather than doing any actual useful work I tend to leave it plugged into the USB cable to synchronise as well as charge.
On 3 occasions now I have come back from the kitchen or wherever and found the device locked up and VERY hot..... When I pull the USB cable out of the TyTN the device is unusable still and a soft reset is required to get it going again. Plugging the USB cable back in resynchs to the PC and no further problems detected. The temperature then slowly goes down to "normal".
I /think/ that on the 1st occasion this happened, the battery life had gone down from around 70% to 30%............... Although on the more recent occasions, i didn't notice any particular drop in battery level.
Does anyone else have any experiences of this kind?
Cheers
I belive i may have had this problem the other night.
I have a vario2, left it to charge over night. Woke up the next day and it had locked up and the battery had dropped to around 40% charge.

For curiosity...your Tytn's serial number starts with ?
Bye...
Mine is HT627....
i had the same problems with my tytn HT628.
it was getting pretty hot when charging and really hot when wlan was turned on at the same time.
My replacement unit is a HT633, and gets a little bit warmer during charging, but not as hot as before.
i noticed that the battery, that came with the new unit was a litlle bit different then the one i had before. there is a metalplate on the bottom of the battery. the old one was completly covered with white plastic. anyone else have this kind of battery?
Ah - now that is interesting...
Mine has a completely white plastic covered battery too. I'm just conducting a test - WLAN on and charging via the USB...
Incidentally, I've set it to stay on when charging, and the screen backlight is on permanently.
I left it like that all night and when i got up - guess what!
Locked up TyTN
Wasn't very warm though... but I don't usually leave the WLAN on overnight. I'll keep testing.
I have a vario 2 and my serial starts HT632, my battery is almost all white.
I have a screen alignment problem and its getting swapped on monday.

Hello,
My O2 XDA mini was power off automatically from last 2-3 days. Battery shows full charged. and nothing changed in last days.
So please let me know what the cause of that ?
Thanks
same problem, with my vpa compact, i think my battery is dead.
If not, what could it be?
I encountered a similar problem with my device. At first I thought it was a dead battery so I changed it but that didn't help.
Then I discovered that it only happens when I'm carrying the device so I investigated this further and it turned out that the little sensor thing that is supposed to be pushed by the battery cover was moving a bit making the device think that the battery cover is opened. A small piece of paper in the right place did the trick for me and now I have a spare battery for emergencies.
A dead/dying battery would also do the same things but it might be the same problem with you guys so you might want to check it.
Thanks my cell is working fine now. I have put the paper at censor.

Plz somebody, show me how to do this ?
some picture would be nice.
Thx B4
the battery is dying
So the other day while minding my own business, I pulled out my phone to use it's calculator for some accounting work. Just as a side note, I keep my phone in my front pocket, and do not wear skinny jeans. When I pulled it out, I looked at the back and it had a crack going down the center of the glass with a slight bulge where the battery is. As soon as I got home, I pulled the battery out and saw that the backside was bulging outwards. It bulged so bad that it managed to crack the glass even with one of those gel-like protectors on it . I tossed it aside and put it my spare battery, which should have been good. This is where the interesting stuff starts happening.
Slowly but surely, the lifespan of my battery would get shorter till the point where as soon as I unplugged it, it would die. It got so bad that It would die around 95%. When it would charge, the percentage would vary a lot, making a very interesting graph in the battery app I have. Not only that, but sometimes when I would restart my phone, it would be a completely different percentage than it was before. On top of that, when the phone would die, it would be at a different percentage than when it was still alive. I would have to plug it into a charger in order for it to start up again. If I did not, it would sometimes get into a boot loop where it would say google, turn off, then turn itself back on, rinse and repeat until I held the power button forcing it off.
After I changed the battery, I rooted it and put the Carbon nightly rom on it, but in order to eliminate possible problems, I did do a factory reset to the phone to make sure it was either of those.
Now I did put a "new" battery from ebay in it, but I am still having the same issue. However, the battery I believe was not new because it still had glue on the back of it from a previous nexus. My actual new battery should be here tomorrow I hope.
Could there be a problem with the batteries, or could there be a problem with my logic board? I have tried two different chargers, the LG one provided with the phone, and a rocket fish wall charger, same problem. Attached are two different pictures of the battery graph. The sharp drops are where it dies, and the sawtooth wave is it on charge. (Don't hurt me! I know I'm not supposed to post outside links, but this is absolutely necessary for you wonderful people to help me! Just remove the space in the link and it will work)
