Hi guys,
just trying to speed my wizard up that little more, im just curious to what these files are used for on the phone. (They are in my startup directory)
CapNotify
Init_Tray
poutlook
sddaemon
Not sure if they will make a noticable difference if removed but thought it would be wise to find out what they do before i play about with them.
init_tray shows the system tray I think where the incons show up
sddaemon is for speed dialer deamon. the cyber voice dialer thingy...

I nicked the HTC 'switcherbar.exe' from my axim x50v and put it on my JasJar (i notice a collegue has it already on his k-jam as part of the default rom). It work, is only 43k and is perfectly stable and usable. No more pocket plus slowdowns! The only problem is that the icon is QVGA and sits in the middle of the menu bar! Still, much beter than anything else I've tried! Does anyone know how we might resource hack the .exe to use a VGA icon (or if this is even possible). I've attached the .exe for 'ahem' educational purposes.
when i try to copy it to JJ i get access denied using activesync, i have extracted the exe from the rar, the rar will copy to me jj no problem, the exe just wont do it, even renaming it to .exx.
i got it there, i put it on me server and wifi'd it using resco explorer to map to share,
is this an activesync block? dubious, it had same issue even if i renamed the exe to something like exx.
I like this app, small to the point and optimised. only crit is as you say it plonks the icon in a stupid place, is there another app maybe that can force it to the system tray?
Ohh, also the brightness and power options dont seem to work, if someone could reengineer this app to allow:
1, vga icons
2, appear in sys tray or atleast be more dynamic in its positioning
3, either remove or fix the backlight and power options.
Way over my head but im sure someone here would be able to fix it.
prehaps we could get the one off the k-jam? I presume the brightness & power shortcuts work on there...
I've got a couple of apps on the miniSD card which I've added to the start menu but (I guess because they're on the miniSD) when I start up there is no pretty icon in the list.
It's not the end of the world, but I wondered if there was a way to fix it properly?
Yes, you can make a shortcut in the local/windows/start directory.
works perfectly - thanks! Clever things shortcuts
is it possible (as a follow-on) for a program in the 'startup' list that's on the miniSD card to be delayed before starting... or does it retry the card until it's ready?
I don't really understand what you mean.....

Why don't you try and tell us that it won't kill your device, the worst it will do is just give you an error message.

wasn't sure the best way to test... and as I've only had the thing a few hours was a little nervous about busting it but popping memory cards in and out to see what happens to get some empirical evidence
Looks like (on testing) that it doesn't retry an app that's set to run off the card if the card isn't installed in the first few seconds... in fact, programs living on the miniSD card but with shortcuts in the /windows/startup folder don't seem to launch at all (tried with a couple - Chronos and SmartsKeys from here) - does this mean I need to go find a launcher app that loops until it's found/started everything?!
I know... I'm a developer by trade so maybe I should learn to hack this thing myself, but most of my development is web not PDA (last time I used VB for a PC app was before .net!)
Funnily enough, in the testing I discovered it's pretty hit and miss if the shortcut icon appears when the app itself lives on the miniSD card... looks like I'm going to have to move Chronos to main memory if I want to be sure of getting woken up in the am
What's the "local/windows/start directory"?
I have the same problem with the icon for programs on the SD sometimes not showing up (sometimes display as a generic Winsows desktop liiking icon) - the entry is there just that the icon itself isn't the correct program specific one. Doesn't seem to be any rhyme nor reason to it.
So is there a solution?
I have the same problem with Storage Card icons not showing up after a soft reset. Has anyone figured this out? Putting shortcut in the startup folder only cause the programs to be loaded, and sometimes that cause errors and all those apps do get launched.
As a work-around I've installed Smallmenu and put cascading menu on my Programs folder (subfolders). It's a few clicks more but at least I get all my icons, organized the way I like them.
Can someone explain this solution to me? What am I creating a shortcut to? If I create a shortcut to the program in the startup menu, will i tnot just open the program?
That seems more annoying than not having the icons...
Looks like AKU2 update has made this problem go away, at least, I've not noticed a problem with startup or icons since upgrading...
Was curious if the Startup group in the Windows directory can be pared down at all.
I currently have the following in this folder:
B_Uptime_update.lnk
CapNotify.lnk
Init_Tray.lnk
poutlook.lnk
sddaemon.lnk
wclose.lnk
WiFiInit.lnk
Is it ok to remove some of these?
I removed:
Init_Tray (System Tray)
poutlook (some people that remove this get errors launching different stuff, but not me)
sddaemon (voicedial daemon, but I don't use Voicedial)
WifiInit (Don't know it, don't need it, WiFi still works fine)
And I don't have
B_Uptime_update
wclose
And everything still works great.
I also removed:
poutlook
sddaemon
I haven't had a problem, but we'll see. I jus did it yesterday
BTW - My 8125 starts up considerably faster
I have...
capnotify
elatepusher
ilock
init_tray
poutlook
sddaemon
fuistarter
wifiinit
Well, if you're asking, "Is there something in my list that shouldn't be there?" the answer is no.
The only things in your list that normally come stock on a Wizard are init_tray, poutlook, and sddaemon. Everything else is installed, presumably by you, or a previous owner if applicable.
I removed my init_tray to buy myself a few extra pixels of real estate, but I know a lot of folks use it to launch apps from. My only beef with that is the icons are too small to hit without a stylus, and my sausage-fingers launch apps 2-3 at a time using that method...
capnotify
quickmenu
smartskeys
startclean
startkey(eurokbd starter)
wifitray
with camera free mem after boot(with running qm, ta, bs, wm5newmenu, aidate, and listed above) - 34.7 mb,
without cam driver and qm, ta, bs, wm5newmenu, aidate, and listed above running - 37.4 mb mem free.
yeah sorry for that post....it is my wiz.
I have a TMOUSA HD2, most recent stock ROM.
Looking at the Windows\Startup folder, I see the following items are in it, that I think were there originally (i.e., not added by an app I installed) (although I may be mistaken on some):
BTTrayCE
HTCStartup
InstantForward
LockDevice
PKG
poutlook
SyncManager
Voice Command
Which of those are necessary, and which can be safely deleted, to shorten bootup time, reduce memory usage, etc.?
Well, I am sure that Voice Command can be removed, but I like Voice Command (when it works), so will probably keep it.
I am pretty sure that poutlook is necessary, and the BT one for BT functioning.
But what about the others?
I guess besides the apps started in the startup folder, there are other background apps, processes, services, and drivers started by registry entries. Are all of those necessary, or can some of those be safely removed as well? If yes, which ones, and where in the registry can those entries be found?
Thanks in advance for your reply.
Anyone know?
I second this. Although I think the mojority of the startup time is wasted in initializing sense.
I know you can delete
PKG
Instant Forward
POUTLOOK
SyncManager
here another thread that you can check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=675987&highlight=startup

Could you explain what those four are? I don't want to delete something, without knowing what it is, whether the deletion could cause a problem, etc.
I thought Poutlook (pocket outlook) was essential, necessary for calendar, contacts, etc.
What about LockDevice? Necessary to lock the device?
SyncManager? Necessary to run ActiveSync? I don't know.
It sure would be nice to see a listing of what each of the default HD startup items actually are.
Also, besides that \Startup folder in the \Windows directory, is there a registry key in WM 6.5 for startup, like the Run key in desktop Windows registry?
