Hi
Has anybody migrated from the XdaIIs, to the Wizard? is it worth it, or would it mean downgrading to something inferior?
I'm thinking about replacing my blue Angel by the Wizard, but i'm not sure if it's worth it.
Any views very very welcome!
Cheers
I migrate forom Dell X50v and Nokia 6630 on Qtek 9100. Nice! I wondeful!!!

huh?
i'd rather have a wizard than a blue angel.. but i guess if you had a BA then it might not be that much different to justify the upgrade... maybe if the phone was free or cheap.
Wizard is smaller, compacter, keyboard is loads better, but the wizard is a lot slower
thanks - very helpful.
The wizard on TMobile UK is free on Web'n'walk 200, so that's fine.
Do you use avantgo or pocket informant on your wizard? Is it a problem with the slower processor speed?
I've just gone from a Blue Angel to a Wizard. Wizard is much better
Its a lot more reliable, feels much smaller and the keyboard is outstanding compared to the BA.
Just my opinion.

I'm not sure where the lots slower comes from, because I find mine just as fast as my Mini, and the Mini has a faster processor than the IIs.
That is unless you install that crap at hard reset. I didn't, and have a clean device
On my device I have:
* TCPMP
* Total Commander
* PHM Regedit and PPC Plus
* SPB GPRS and Pocket Plus
* Opera Mini (MIDlet one)
* MS Stock Scramble (MS Games Pack)
* Monopoly
* Macromedia Flash ActiveX
* AvantGo 5.7
* Skype 1.2 Beta
* Agile Messenger (the free one)
* AE Uptime
* PocketRAR
I have all this installed on the internal ROM with 12.5Mb free.
I came from a PDA2k and think the Wizard is a much better device. As already stated it's seems to be a more reliable device. Much better keyboard. One handed browsing in landscape (with keyboard open) is also good. I don't really notice is being much slower, but maybe that's just me.
BA to wizard
was always very happy with teh BA (qtek 9090) except the way you have to soft reset every now and then (bless), the battery falls out whenever it wants to (less forgiveable) and the person on the other end of the phone can't hear you.
Oh, and it's like carrying a small brick, and I never use the slide out keyboard.
Do any Wizard users notice an improvement on any of these fronts, and does Tomtom 5 work ok (I assume it has a smaller screen than BA).
Many thanks
Hi pounana
Yes, all of those problems with the blue angel you note are fixed in the wizard, plus the bluetooth is light years better. ano conflicts wit wi fi either. as for tomtom, I am running 5.1 that I transferred form the supplied SD card to a mini SD that fits the wizard. Beyond the Tech on this forum has a Wizard blog with detailed install instructions. I was lucky though, as mine loaded and installed automatically no probs..
As for sceen, yes it is smaller, but very serviceable !
Hope that helps

Same here...so far very good!!!
double double ditto supersized
This is what I wanted from a phone: something phone sized, that also had a good camera and usable PIM/comms functionality.
I considered the universal, but it's too big (like the BA is) so I'd not carry it everywhere. Consequently, as a phone, it failed...
The Wizard is the right formfactor for my phone... I like it.
Why should we not let jasjar get involved?
It got 2 camera's video conferencing, bigger and twistable screen, yeah yeah yeah.,
I wished i had a wizzard to, but i will not sell my BlueAngel to get one,
for only a better keyboard, and somewhat better camera
Maybe in the future i will get one, but i think their to expensive to buy right now,

Well the reason may well be expalianed by your signature block...
I see you have a highly customised configuration that you probably spent hours (if not weeks and months like I did  ) to get it to a state where you had decent functionality that was fairly stable.
Now take the wizard out of the box, charge the battery, switch it on and you have it right away, only better!!
Now I realise that I can never get all those "ROM cooking" hours back and some of it was really quite fun (in a masochistic kind of way  ) but now it just works and I can get on with life!
Whatever floats your boat though... although I think us wizard owners are secretly starting to miss cooking our own ROMS already!!

Hello to all..
I am a newbie here and I really dont know anything about these pocketPC's..All i want to say is, I am crazy about mobiles and I hav my own mobile forum too for the Nokia. Currently I own a 6600 and 6630. I only use the Nokia S60. But this time, I wanna try out a PPC..I Really dont anything about PPC's..I will hav to learn from here..
I am really getting confused which one to buy..I want help frm you professionals..Shall i go for the Wizard or Blueangel??
I found dat wizard has 3 advantages over the BA
1)Camera
2)Keyboard
3)Weight and Looks
The only disadvantage of the wizard is the
1)processor speed
2)64MB RAM..whereas the blueangel has 128MB RAM
So we can say that the major disadvantage of the KJAM over the PDA2k is the speed of the phone and opening of applications..
Please let me know about the other advantages and disadvantages of the wizard over the blueangel.
Also tell me about the sound quality and volume of the wizard..Is it 3D sound and loud ??
I like the wizard..It looks good too..But the only thing disappointing me is the processor..It has a 200mhz processor which is kinda slow as compared to the BA..The BA has 400 mhz processor..So do you ppl think the speed really differs?? And please let me know which one u all prefer me buying??
Thank you..
Please help me in choosing the best one..and tell me the CONS and PROS of both over each other
I am currently running a ba with wm5 on it and really like it, but am thinking of getting a wizard too but for the edge technology. The processor worried me too until I did some reading. The TI Omap 850 is a dual core type processor, which should show no real speed diff from the 400mhz that is in the ba.

Really thanks for replying..I think ill go for the K-jam.
I had a blue angel, a magician and now the Wizard.
I like the wizard very much.
Blue Angel:
Pros: quick, big screen, internal wifi (crap reception)
Cons: bulky, not comfortable in the pocket, heavy, keyboard not comfortable for lot's of typing - after a while I reverted back to the virtual keyboard, bluetooth worked TERRIBLE !!!! - lot's of noise and static - tried 3 different BA devices and 5 different BT headsets - all carp. No bluetooth voice dialing - major disadvantage. Not stable all the time, had to reset from time to time which irritated me. Terrible camera (!)
Magician:
Pros: lighter then the BA, size was reasonable, quick as the BA
Cons: no keyboard, small screen, bluetooth still crap, no BT voice dialing, no WM5, No wifi, bad camera, no so great handsfree speakerphone
Wizard:
Pros: acceptable size, great keyboard, wifi on board (802.11G - reception signal strength could be better - since i am comparing thr reception to the sandisk wifi card that i had for my magician), quad band, better camera, WM5, bluetooth FINALLY works as it should have all along which is GREAT !!!, very stable, practical and nice, good speakerphone, great sound!
Cons: I'm not sure if it's really that slower than the BA or Magician... however I'm disappointed by the CPU speed rating. Due to the mechanical design - all of the carrying cases in the market so far are a compromise - not great to say the least. Bad stylus concept, design and implementation.
So which one is the best so far?
The wizard. without a doubt.
Go for it.
its like taking a step back in time this device is much slower than my 2 year old m1000 and keeps crashing. I slept in this morning the phone crashed (no alarm).
I love the form factor however compared to my m1000/xda
is the older magician as slow?
Readin your subject...
It hardly seams like a good advert to the phone, I have owned all XDA's and yet not the fastest is still much quicker than an xda 1, 2 and low and behold it leaves the silly xda 2i standing.
Think about it! its almost half the size, its the same when you have a laptop the smaller you go the lower the spec in many cases.
Try over clocking it. I get very good performance from it and from a point of view from someone who has every version they sell (except the Universal) I have to say this is the best one they sell. its speck on some of the items is much more than you could expect.
Ok the phone has a few problems with the ROM but thats also what you expect.
Dont putting down a excellent phone because you have not worked out how to get the best from it, and it is faster than the i-mate JAM not by much but faster.

Are you refering to the JAMin here? If so, you are sadly very mistaken. The original Jam runs rings around the JAMin (except graphics performance)
At the end of the day it depends on what you want. If you want a phone enabled PDA, the JAMin is a good choice. If you want a PDA enabled phone, then the original JAM is miles better.
I have the Jam and the Jamin. The Jam is a bit zippier, but in the week that I've had the Jamin I haven't noticed that it is dog slow either. In fact, since I got rid of the Extended Rom on the Jamin, on every day stuff, it is performing like the Jam. I can only assume that it will just keep getting better with future ROM upgrades. One good thing I've noticed about the Jamin is that it uses less electricity than the Jam. At comparable screen brightness, the Jam was using 110ma while the Jamin was using only 80. That's a good saving. OK I'm a newbie to the Jamin like everyone, time will tell if it stacks up.
I've got mine since a week and YES, it's slower than the S110 but the battery last for much longer. 200MHz processor against 416 and WM5 helps a lot. With the old S110 (and extended battery 1550MHa) the battery last for 2 working days (exchange sync with sms handshake), with the S200 I reach easily the 3rd day.

Go to the Wizard forums... a bunch of resourceful souls figured ou tthe OMAP processor acceleration. I did that to my 8125 (k-jam equiv) and it makes a night and day difference. BTW: The wizard usese the same CPU as the jammin. Give it a whirl!
Hi,
I am now into week three of JAMin ownership and thought I would post a few bullet points about it compared to the JAM.
- it is slower than the JAM, but not so as to make it annoying. Use of the OMAP overclocker on Tom Tom GPS makes it totally useable. I don't really notice it now.
- battery life is a HUGE improvement. Never seen it drop below 50% yet.
- screen is a lot brighter.
- the extra buttons are great. Used with Magic Button and Vito Button mapper greatly reduces the need to use the stylus.
- the camera is very good.
- overall build quality is the same as the JAM but it just looks better.
- Memory allocation is improved. I have only had to soft reset every couple of days and only get the odd crash.
- my only real gripe just now is that there is no WM5 version of OnSpeed so I am not using it to browse just now. It is due out soon though.
Overall I am perfectly happy with the JAMin. The only real issue is the processor speed. However use of the OMAP overclocker gives you best of both worlds of speed when you need it and greater battery life when you don't (lets face it how fast does the phone need to be in standby mode?).

I have a HTC Blue Angel (also called Qtek 9090, XDA III) and I'd like to buy a HTC Universal (XDA Exec, Qtek 9000) to replace it.
However, I keep hearing that it's slow, and that it's slower than the Blue Angel.
Is this true, or are the people who say it's slow using it in a wrong way (for example using lots of memory-hungry programs at the same time)?
Anything else to look for when buying one?
If you want to get an idea of what it's REALLY going to be like, I suggest you visit the BA Upgrading Forum at xda-dev and download the TuMa v1.4 ROM of WM5 and take the plunge of upgrading your device. It will give you an apples-to-apples idea of how WM5 runs on a device with the same configuration.
There's no easy answer to your question. In short WM2003SE is faster, but the utility gained by moving to the newer OS far surpasses the benefit of speed. That's just my opinion, of course. Your mileage may vary.
But the Universal has a faster processor than the Blue Angel.
Isn't the user experience about similar, because of the faster processor (slowness of WM 5 being compensated by the increased CPU speed)?
I think most people will tell you that the jump from the BA CPU to the Universal CPU is nominal (at best). Certainly under the WM5, this is the case.
Yes, perhaps the bump in speed for the CPU should compensate, but in reality it does so only a bit. This is because of the inherent operation of WM5 (i.e. the stuff is executed out of ROM, which is slower than RAM).
For details see Mike C.'s excellent post http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2005/08/19/453784.aspx

Hi,
Upgraded from the BA (Orange M2000) to Universal (Orange M5000)
I can honestly say that the M5000 is slower - i dont think the devices fault but WM5!
After having the M500 for 2-3 weeks now and then going back to look at the M2000's screen there is a massive difference. Due to that I wouldnt consider going back to the M2000.
The M5000 is a fantastic device and is a bit slower than the M2000 but more than makes up for it in other ways.
Just my penneth.
Matt
So it seems
I have both devices both running wm5. The Blue angle seems to have more running memory but I'm not positive how much memory the wm5 OS can handle
Unfortunately:
YES, its slower
Maybe wait for WM5SE (Codename Crossbow).
short answer: It's worth it
Ady is right.
100% Worth it !
My contribution....
I moved from BA to Universal. I use both very simply....phone, email, internet etc...bit of tomtom
No strange apps, no mods, boring old o2 ROMs.....
and I think the Universal is slower....but only slightly and not so it would really bother you.
And anyway, the Universal looks so much better so just get it!!!
HPJ
I have both and I find the Universal is a lot slower, even when running it at 624MHz.
Blame WM5, though, not HTC.
I bought it
I have just bought a Qtek 9000 (HTC Universal) and a Corsair 133X SD card, so I can access the data quickly.
It's a bit slower than the Blue Angel, indeed. But, for some things, it is faster:
- Pocket IE doesn't lock up for 2 minutes when loading complex web sites
- browsing is faster because of the 3G
- Pocket Word loads complex documents faster
Overall, I'm very pleased with the upgrade.
I think that I don't feel the slowness because I don't use programs which put themselves on the TODAY screen - I configure the PDA to show the date and the calendar, and that's it.
In my view the VGA compensates all drawbacks of the speed issues...
really fantastic with PIE and Adobe Reader PPC 2.0
Does Wizard have same CPU as Universal
I have a Blue Angel running WM2003SE and a Wizard running WM5. BA is MUCH faster. Does the Wizard have the same CPU as the Universal?
If I flashed the BA to WM5 would it be as slow as the Wizard? Could the BA be overclocked with 'Omap..'?
Which ROM would you suggest for running WM5 on the BA?
Thanks.
Dude--the Wizard CPU is a jalopy compared to the Universal's hotrod. That's not a fair comparison at all. The only true comparison would be with a HTC Alpine device which runs the same CPU as the Universal.

The Wizard is certainly slow but has a useable keyboard and 3G WiFi unlike the BA.
Any response to my other questions?
I am expecting a Prophet in the next week, is it the same CPU as the Wizard (and no keyboard at all)?
This is all off-topic so if you have a question about the Prophet or Wizard or the BA, you should post it in the appropriate forum. The answers to all your questions already exist. Please use the search function. That's why it's there.
On to my reponse:
Useable keyboard? Perhaps, but you will find as many haters of that keyboard, as well--Although I agree it's better than the BA's. And no, the Wizard does not have a 3G radio. It has EDGE (which is more like 2.5G). Yes, it has WiFi, but so does the BA. How is that any different?
The Prophet has no keyboard and has the same '****ty' OMAP CPU as the Wizard. I was using this lame ass CPU with HP's 6315 almost two years ago. It sucks. Software-based enhancements make the new ROMs for the Wizard and Prophet more responsive, but it's still what it is. Which is S.L.O.W.
There are huge threads devoted to the BA WM5 experience. Try the TuMa 1.4 ROM or the newest Ivan release. Please browse through the BA Upgrading forum for details (I suggest this to the OP, as well). I doubt the 'overclocked OMAP' could ever match the raw CPU power of the Xscale CPU. I am not going to get into a war over CPU architecture here.
My .02 hilala as they say here in Saudi Arabia.
FYI - Anyone considering upgrading to Hermes
I have been using a universal for the last 18months and have now sold it and upgraded to the HTC Hermes.
The universal served me very well and the only thing I miss is the larger screen and VGA resolution and standard 3.5mm jack - however - I don't miss the bulk.
The hermes is everything the universal is minus the VGA.
My default Rom on the universal was Helmi's v1.3 which was AKU 3.5 and was a very very stable/solid rom.
I later installed PDAVIET 2.04 pro (Crossbow/WM6) which was a little temperamental but solid never the less.
I have installed XDA Live 0.20 which is a Crossbow rom on the hermes and it is very fast, I mean very very fast in comparison to the the universal.
In actual fact the hermes feels like an overclocked blue angel. (Normal operation, responsiveness, games etc)
Before I had the universal I had a blue angel that I used to regularly overclock to 530mhz (XCPUSCHALAR) and I can tell you that the herms feels very close to this.
I actually wonder what the hermes is capable of if overclocked slightly - As I don't have any figures (Pocket Hackmaster performance Index, SPB benchmark, etc) I can only speculate - but I'm looking forward to investigating this further.
Incidently the hermes has the Imageon gpu that was present in the blue angel so it runs films in TCPMP with hardware acceleration something the universal lacks.
Now I'm not sure whether the Universal had slow ram, or it being a VGA device slowed it down or what but I do know that the hermes is orders of magnitude more responsive in every day operation than the universal was...
Wireless connects at 54mbs on the hermes instead of the 11mbs maximum thoroughput the universal supports even with the 802.11g hack.
And the Hermes also supports HSDPA (1.8mbs theoretical - if your network provider supports it). Admittedly this was a deal breaker for me as umts is cool but connecting at 1.8mbs to the internet whilst on the road is edging very close to nirvana LOL!
Now while I will miss browsing servers at 640x480 using ts client in WM6 (WM5 tsc was atrocious BTW - LOL!) I feel the hermes features and performance more than make up for it. Plus I recently purchased a Sony u50 (1st generation umpc circa 2004) which has a 800x600 5 inch screen and the u50 allows me to TS into server using the hermes as a modem (Bluetooth or serial comms)
Last but not least I need to mention the hermes 2MP camera - OMDs - LOL.
It is head and shoulders above any HTC Camera I've ever experienced and I have seen them all...
SPV to wallaby to alpine to blueangel to universal I've had them all and this camera is the 1st USEABLE camera in terms of how responsive the camera app is, the picture quality and the overall experience!
Granted it's no replacement for my Canon SLR BUT (BIG BUT) it's definitely useable and supports typical camera functions such as self timer, darkness controls etc.
All other HTC devices had a fairly decent camera app but a piss poor camera sensor that only operated remotely correctly with good light. The pics I get with the hermes are of comparable quality to recent nokia and sony phones.
Hope this information is of use to anyone considering moving from the Universal to a hermes.
haha funny enough I was looking at the hermes last night.
My contract has run out, im in the UK and o2 are no longer doing free gprs so I need to jump ship as its damn expensive! Three are offering unlimited (1gig) a month for £5 so that's my main option plus they have a HSDPA network. But the downside is they don't offer the hermes so i'd have to get it seperatly I want a hermes
Thanks for the review, I want a hermes more now
Thanks
Stu
actually, just a thought... with WM6 PIE has the option to view in VGA mode, this makes website VERY easy to view as if they were on a desktop pretty much which makes browsing actually possible on these devices. Is that function still available on the hermes ?
thanks
Stu
IE VGA
Hi Stu,
No that feature is not available in WM6 IE for the hermes as it is a qvga device (320x240)
Just checked the menu options in IE and noticed that option was missing whereas it was there in WM6 IE on the universal.
Cheers

O2 are just about to bring out a new XDA which is similar looking to the Hermes but appears to have a faster processor. It is apparently out on 26 March.
ooo in that case I may hang around to see what it's like.
But saying that the data is a huge issue data costs on o2 are huge plus i'm a student so we can whine more lol
thanks guys

Or you might like to hold out for the I-mate Ultimate 7150 - more ROM, more RAM, faster processor, VGA .....
not made my mind up about the design of the new ultimate series, dont know what it is, they look at a little funny :? will have to see it in flesh.
This is what I hate about these things, its always add a little bit of extra time on and wait for the next device
The very mention of microSD in these devices is enough for me to overlook them and appreciate my Universal even more - despite the superior performance of the new devices over the Universal. Since the Universal is VGA, has a stable performance, and uses SD Cards - I am pleased with it.
Only when SDHC readers start becoming more mainstream in PDA Phones will I start considering a successor to the Universal.
hi all looking at getting a trinity 3600 because i need stanalone gps, pda and a phone that takes my 3 sim card. just wondering b4 i take the plunge is there another phone that will meet my requirements that anybody thinks is better than the 3600 cheers
Other devices...
Well, the HTC Advantage can do all the same things, plus it has a VGA screen, but is a much more bulky device. The only other device I'm aware of that does all that the Trinity does is the Nokia N95. The Nokia has the advantage of a 5MP camera (only 2mp on the Trinity), but it doesn't run pocket PC (it's Symbian I think).
Other than that, I'm not aware of any others. The Trinity is a very good device, you'd be hard pushed to beat it!
Lee
but Advantage i read can only be used as a phone using a headset
it dont have a mic or something
polaris the upcomming replacement for Artemis but it's not out yet
another option could be Kaiser is another option if one is not bothered by the extre thickness the keyboard adds or even pref a keyboard
thanks for your replies the n95 i think you have to pay for the gps service I dont think it has a built in sirfstar 3 chipset or any alike so i would not go for that but i will have a look at the kaiser cheers
Yes, N95 runs Symbian, but no touchscreen. I've tried it a few days ago - much slower than my N73.
Other options
As of now the Trinity is one of the best PDA'a around.
Other phones that you can consider are the Asus P535/525 series and the Eten M700.
These phones have all the feature the Trinity has and then some more. Like all phones, the Trinity also has its fair share of problems.
I was about to buy the Trinity but holding out for the Kaiser, it has all the feature that I want in a phone.
Just my 2 cents worth.
Cheers,
Hiren
i'll wait for polaris or nike myself
dont want a slideout keyboard
polaris looks really good just took a look out in october ultra thin aswell says 3.5 in screen does that make the phone bigger than the mda 3 compact and is it defo 3g because it was the mda i wanted but only 2g
hi...
is there a better phone/pda? interesting question....
If you are using it mostly like a phone I wouldnt go for the trinity because of two issues:
* I need a quite strong GSM signal to get acceptable sound quality. People I call often complain about the quality of my voice when compared to a 'normal' phone. Maybe is my device, people in this forum say, but I tried some proposed remedies without success.
* Screen is nearly invisible outdoors on a sunny day
If you are using mostly PDA features, the trinity may be an interesting option. The rest of features work really well, specially GPS.
Beware a new (pricey) trinity version is to be released soon (or maybe already). Hopefully they solve these issues plus the paint peeling off thing. Then it would be the perfect phone.
Depends on what you value!
If you need the phone for business, don't get a PDA phone coz the reception is NOT 100% reliable...
What do you need the PDA for?
All in all, it might be better to get a TomTom GO, then a cheap phone with bluetooth that can connect to TomTom!
But as previously said, D810X is meant to be coming out, no idea when and how much though.
D810x is out in Australia as the HTC p3600i.
i think dell axim x51 is very good for gaming but it dont have a camera!
Polaris looks its gonna be great! I remember reading it only has 400mhz cpu :S
