Phone app not opening - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi all,
This problem is really getting to me now. For some unknown reason, after my O2 XDA Mini S has been on a while it becomes impossible to open the phone app. I am guessing this happens after i have something else running but am not able to work out what. The only 3rd party thing i have is TCPMP and i had this problem before installing that anyway.
I seem to remember other people moaning about this too and was wondering if anyone had similar experiences or had found a solution?
Thanks

Did you use task manager to close the phone app at anytime? If so then that will cause the issue until you soft reset.

You can also launch cprog.exe manually to reload the phone, or my program VJTogglePhone.

Can't remove parts of Skype

I installed skype but it caused the qtek 9100 to crash randomly and very often. I removed the software, but now almost everytime i come from standby mode i have a notification box that it could not run programs/skype.exe
This is really annoying as I already removed the prog, and I have no clue what is trying to run skype on the phone. How can I check this / remove this?
Thanks.
i´ve the same problem

I had the same problem.
I downloade the most resent version of Skype.
Softreset
Installed Skype.
Softreset
Deinstalled Skype.
Softreset.
Then the trouble disappeared.
Worth a try.
i do it, but i´ve the same problem
check notifications
I had the same problem. Using the software "check notifications" I removed skype.exe and the problem is solved.
The software also increases the performence by removing multiple running processes.

The last program from the list
These arent my words, ive just copied and pasted from another pocket pc forum. Maybe it'll help.
Problems like this come from invalid entries in the DB_notify_events WinCE database. You can correct this by hand (if reinstalling & uninstalling Skype doesn't cure it):
1, get Pocket dbExplorer from http://www.phatware.com/hpcdbex.html
2, install and run
3, go to DB_notify_events
4, go to the last entry of the list on the lower half of the screen - the 2nd "TEXT" entry. You'll see the EXE name in the upper half of the screen.
5, press the right arrow until you see a link to Skype.exe.
6, press AT THIS RECORD the Delete button.
Hm, I don't find the DB_notify_events. I wonder if you have to buy the product in order to be able to do this.
I still haven't solved this problem
Is this what one can expect when Microsoft hits the mobile? ...just waiting for the viruses and BSODs to hit.

This worked perfectly for me too, many thanks.
How does getting rid of Skype from Notifications help
Not knocking it, but how does getting rid of Skype from the list of notifications help ?
Not knocking it because it seems to have worked!!
Update: I still got a Skype erro after doing the remove, but since doing a Clear in Check Notify it hasn't re-occurred. Fingers crossed.

Pocket IE wont open

This is not the first time this has happened, but Pocket IE wont open. I would click on it and it would open for a split second then close. The last time this happened, I had to do a hard reset. Does anyone know how to troubleshoot this without haveing to hard reset?
Installed any new software or plugins lately?
I've never had a problem with my pIE.
Its weird, it was working fine with everything I have installed. It just stop working.
Ive had the same problem from time to time, looked into everything / anything to try and fix this but always ended up hard resetting or installing a 3rd party browser. Not much help but just wanted to let you know you are not alone! Oh btw which rom are you using?

Exactly! My only way around this is to use a third party browser, such as Opera, or do a hard reset. Oh yeah, I am using The official Cingular 2.5 ROM, overclocked to a stable 264mhz.

wm6.1 crashing apps

I think I tried posting this in one of dcd's rom threads but it got lost in the thousands of posts so I figured I would pull it out into a main thread...
What is up with WM closing out (crashing) background apps once you launch new ones? it's supposed to keep this stuff opened until you close it! Even if I have only 1 app opened, say Resco Pocket Radio.. and I try to go into a text message.. it will crash Resco... or if I have a PIE window open and I switch to a file browser it will crash PIE...
Is this a wm thing... wm6.1 thing or... dcd thing... or what?
I would really think this has been addressed before but I can't seem to find anything through search...
thanks
Are you using HTC X-Button or QuickMenu that may be closing your apps? Jus a thought
no htc x-button but I am using quickmenu... but that is only supposed to close the apps when u click the X in the corner... apps are closing by just launching from a notification... hard button.. or other launch method
Havn't seen that before... the only thing i can think of is double check quickmenu settings or try a hard reset, or maybe even cook a new rom. One time with a particular custom rom my text messages never made a sound -- but every other sound worked. I cook a new rom and it fixed it
i guess if no one else sees this problem it has to be something I have loaded on my device... im going to start removing things to see if i can determine the culprit... im starting with quickmenu
wow i dont think I've ever used regular start menu before but isn't it supposed to show apps that are currently loaded in memory? mine seems to be showing a list of last used apps... has like 10 things in there then program/settings...
not to be mistaken with frequenters (set in settings->menu), I have that list empty... strange!

I'm having a problem with PIE. I'll open my text messages, then go back to PIE only to have it re-open back on the homepage. It is very annoying when I'm in the middle of something and just wanna respond to a text message.
I noticed it has to do with apps that are active on the broadband network, which leads me to believe it was radio-related...
I went back to 1.4 & 1.7.0 and no crashes or anything... starting to think this combo is more stable anyways. new radios just don't seem to work all that well on verizon, at least in my experience

apps are starting automatically

Hi there,
i noticed that some apps start itself automatically and run in the background?! That is very annoying. I am observing this behaviour once or twice a day with taskiller advance. Suddenly apps like ak notepad, last.fm and locale are running even though i didnt started them. I guess this is not normal?

I have noticed this as well on my Rogers Magic (32A). I think that if a process or other app (like email) needs to, it will activate a related process for it to function (touchscreen, keyboard, etc.)
When using AppKiller after having the phone do nothing for a while or just one app, I'll see a few others listed. Naturally everything ends up loading the "touchscreen" process...
I'm not sure if that means SMS will show up when typing an email because they share the keyboard (as if activating one typing app activates them all)... I've never tested that specifically.
It would be cool if it didn't need to do this, but I've become accustomed to just touching the kill all apps button
Cheers,
Chris

that sound reasonable but why is tunewiki starting for no reason or dolphin browser? Could it be bad programming? I noticed this behaviour only with a few apps but its quite anoying. They eat up memory and slow down the phone if i am correct?!

He has a point there, I don't think a third party app would start another third party app, unless they worked in conjunction. As for the problem, try reinstalling the apps.

i already tried. It doesnt matter if it is a stock, cyanogen or dwang rom. Taskkiller is showing me all this selfstarting apps after reboot and then they randomly start with no reason. Most annoying is dolphin browser. Kill it and its back in a matter of seconds eating up precious ram. Tunewiki, AK Notepad stay at least closed...
I've also wondered this and I've noticed Dolphin Browser and the TorProxy app always running, and respawn when they are terminated. I am sure it's because the apps are somehow configured to run as services, so started looking at linux services in adb. In adb shell I checked 'service list' but they were not in there, I wonder if there is a generic service that is there to keep apps alive. I'm interested to know the answer if anyone can throw some more light on it!
I noticed whenever I kill all apps, then for example, switch from 3g to wifi, or 3g to 2g, etc., dolphin browser and imusic will open in the background.... which is annoying.
Why would switching to 3g, 2g, or wifi make these apps open?
curious...

i tried this and after switching 3g and wifi off an on an instance of wifi static, sms/mms and handcent spawned. Even though the usual suspects didnt start most of this automagically starting programms are indeed in need of a data connection (tunewiki, dolphin browser, locale...). We could start a list of self starting programms!?
okay, i am pretty sure now that apps are starting when wifi is on, an then the phone is switched off, then wifi goes to sleep and when the phone is turned on again wifi also and apps which need wifi are starting.
Is this only bothering me? I mean it does deplete ressources/battery life, right? I am using a tasmanager which says that i have about 45mb of free memory. After resuming from sleep with all those self starting apps it is reduced to 25-30mb.
Can anybody confirm that this shouldnt happen?
btw dolphon browser seems to have been fixed. It doesnt start after waking up the phone.
EDIT: okay, i just found this little app:
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-elsdoerfer-android-autostarts-jppi.aspx
maybe this is the solution. I am going to try it.
yeah I have the same issue both on cyan and dwang. on first boot ill run task manager and have a huge list of things, sometimes i have to kill a few times. then ill notice the phone is bogged, and check task manager and have tons of things running again.

[Q] Problems with CPU?

Hello everyone,
I've had some problems with my legend lately.. The phone would become really slow and it would take forever to load something. I'm talking about times of atleast 30-60 seconds here.. So I tried checking out what was causing it and I found out my CPU was running at 100% all the time (I did this with the app mini info).
My phone has froyo loaded onto it, no roms or anything yet.. no taskkillers or anything either.
Now my questions are:
1) What's causing this so I can prevent it from happening in the future?
2) How to solve the actual problem?
I love this phone so much but this problem has really been annoying me..
Thanks in advance .
P.s. I hope I put this in the right forum since I'm fairly new here. ^_^;
You've probably got an app or 10 running in the background, get a task manager on there.
Nope, I don't have that many apps on my phone yet, it's still fairly new.. and I always close the apps I use with the back button.. not the home button >_<. So they should be closed, right?
Any suggestions for a task manager though? I'll try anything as long as it helps .
not alll aplication will close.some of them work on background.if you have antivirus then it will slow your mobile[not all]
i recommend that to use a task killer.some of them automatically kill tasks that you don't want screen on time or certain period of time.[by the way you can edit the list]
you can also find out memory and cpu usage for each application with the help of astro file manager .
Do you have HTC News widget on some of your home screens? If yes - try to remove it and see if it makes any difference...
Another trick is to enable USB debug mode.
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
Ok thanks for the suggestions everyone, the problem hasn't returned yet.. hope it stays like that .
