congratulations on your new amazing device.... It is just awesome
I just hope I have one in my hand right now , I keep thinking this thing is BIG... especially compared to the magician, But whenever I look to it.. I fall in Love
the most important thing to me, is size... how do find your universal?? is it really big... or is it OK?
another question... does it have a 3.5 mm jack??
I heard that the screen is awesome....
I hope i cant get one of these monsters soon
congratulations again
cheers
That sure looks sweet , have fun with it!!

well it is big, but I have become so used to having a pda (xda, xda2) and yes having them all up to my ear that I really don't have a problem. In fact it just feels right, heavy but right, if you know what i mean.
3.5 jack, oh yes sure has and i've been listening to some tunes using some pc headphones with a battery powered base add on and tbh sounds as good as the PC with a decent set of headphones.
The screens goo, but so is the xda2 imo. I bought a screen pretector from expansys.
thx for the comments Triband81 just did it to give an insight into one users experience with the phone.
Cheers, Numb

man, this is great! Finally, an external LCD display!
I wish Universal has this little LCD display. It also has the softkey, Win, and OK hardware button. This is really beautiful PPC.
Sadly it does not have a VGA screen.
It looks like it has only one camera too. Not bad as long as the excisting one is a 2 MP camera. No flash either. The hard buttons were placed next to the screen, looks like this is designed more to satisfy both landscape and portrait users. Nice touch. I like that there is a screen outside, let's hope it not just show time but the caller's name ID when an incoming call is in progress.
It has increased memory too. I wished they increased both ROM and RAM and not just the RAM. I don't care about battery life because I am pretty sure the extended batteries will come soon. Thickness issue is no problem for me, I am already used to how thick my Universal is with the extended battery attached to it.
Ohhhhhh! It looks like the SD slot has its own cover too, just like Sony's TH55/E1 (Palm). I like that in this design.
ha ha ha =) you catch that one... i barely noticed the spec and only admired all the improvement they have done against the Universal.
Also, no GSM 850Mhz, only tri band, no 3G, no EDGE.
why they do not want to make a perfect device everyone dreams of?
new Universal aggrrr
No doubt that is a beauty... but worst than ours... No VGA screen, 1 camera, no 3G, mini-SD, no GPS...
Only more fancy and with an extra exterior display...
I'm not convinced!!
With those specs it is a definite downgrade... this looks more like a uni ripoff than a uni killer.

The External display seems cool though I wonder if it does more than just tell time and battery life and of course if it's skinnable
Disappointed
This phone doesnt seem like it will live up to the Universal. It does seem a little bit smaller but many capabilties have been left out. I heard about the external LCD screen a little while ago but that tiny thing is making this thing look like a calculator. I just hope that this is a cheap knockoff of the HTC UNIVERSAL and that HTC will put out something hopefully with a mouse on it like the Artemis

what is this?
i've recently sold my 8525 because i've gotten really sick and tired of its clunkiness. im sure some of you can relate, if not all, because its slow, heavy, and basically makes life twice as hard as it needs to be. i guess i'm just ranting for a bit here.... a good stress reliever =)
but i'm gonna admit that there was a positive side to this... because it was a good learning experience to flash and reflash and trying out different cooked roms. I'd like to thank all the cooks/chefs whose spent countless hours and efforts into these projects because i've looked at the kitchen and its not easy, and thank the rest of the board members for your help
but anywho i've moved on to a much simpler phone now... the samsung blackjack (i know it is still a windows mobile phone) so i suppose i'm giving wm6 another chance. its been a few days now and so far i feel like its a much improvement from using a clunky pocket-pc as a phone.
i'll still be visiting the boards from time to time because my brother has an HTC dash/excalibur..... and maybe to get info about smartphones in general.
Just for a minute I confused you for Mr Welker check his Avatar:

Good luck and keep us posted on how the samsung blackjack works out for you!
Good Luck, but I don't think I could make that transition. I use my touchscreen so much that when I do sit down at my regular PC, I reach up and touch the screen to go to links and then sit there feeling stupid when it doesn't work. Oh yea, a mouse!!!
hey thanks guys, you know what Steve Sharp, when i first started using the blackjack i kept having the urge to tap the softkeys on the screen, i guess i didnt realize how much i used the screen over the physical buttons!
i dont know if its just me but when i was using the hermes i felt the buttons at the bottom (including the talk and end buttons) were so disconnected from the phone unit.... so when i made calls i just tapped the screen, it kind of felt redundant of the button design...
anywho maybe thats i see what you mean Steve
My friend has a samsung verizon phone... not sure of the name, but it has a touch screen. other than it being extreemly fast even when memory gets low, there is something about his phone that you have to use the cleartemp program (found on this site somewhere) all the time. The screen is very soft and when you apply any sort of pressure you get the LCD rainbow effect...that makes me nervous about it breaking too easily. all in all its a very nice phone.
just i really like the Hermes. my wife has a kaiser and its nice, she never lets me try it out for any amounts of time to make any real decision about whether or not i like it more than mine. i know hers is allot tighter(hmm, i mean slide out keyboard) and feels more comfortable in my hands. I'll make a full report after we do a sim swap for a couple of days. she has duttys rom, probably not the current one, and i have K's full (it seems to be the fastest Hermes rom out for me, and the way i use the phone)

Not if I do first
OT> Where can I build a sig like that?
Great write up by 4winmobile
Arrrrrrrrrrgh I still cant believe O2 are going to launch this phone after vodaphone when all the rumours were that O2 was getting it first.
Delay after delay and for what a crappy O2 wallpaper, serriously why bother branding it at all as it removes the animated weather and will just be swapped ASAP for the default theme.
Please pay attention that in the review they mention that they got the phone with a screen protector. This means that HTC do believe you need to use a screen protector (otherwise why put it in the box). He does say at the end that even without the screen protector the screen remained scratch-free after the several weeks of review, but still...
If you want to ask about the delay in the review thread I'll answer why
The contents of what was supplied have now been updated...... we were notr supplied with a screen protector but it listed it on the items that are scheduled to be included.
For the review we received an advance bundle without a lot of the items that will be supplied.
Awsome writeup mate thanks. Still don,t see why O2 are taking so long.
Question asked in reviw thread, almost forgot I registered there ages ago been over a year since
And your questions are now answered
Cheers Thanks for the replys
Great review by 4winmobile! I need to get this puppy in the States with 3G
Glad you like the review, it shouldn't be too long before the HD2 is released in the USA, it will be worth the wait!
Great review, but not without glitches.
The 3.5mm jack on the bottom is not a drawback, it's a great design decision. When you put your phone in your pocket, you put it exactly "upside down". That's because if your hand has the same design as most people's hands do, you'll pull it out and can start talking with the speaker up and microphone down, without turning it.
Now, I admit there may be some peculiar pouches etc. where the "normal" way of putting the device in doesn't work, and these pouches may be attractive to some people, and I will even admit that this is a valid concern, but at best this means that the jack placement isn't something that can be "good" or "bad" for everyone. The review is too categorical in this respect.
I would prefer it Jack on the bottom so when its muonted in my car I can sit the jack from my radio into it easyer.
Gotta agree, jack on bottom makes more sense pocket and car cradle wise
I can see the logic in what you're saying and have to agree.

I had the same sentiment about this particular critique.
Each to his own ideal I guess
For me it''s logical to put the machine in a pouch the right side up as that way as I insert fingers to draw it out they'd not be in possible conflict with the button area when the machine was gripped.
As an ex-ergonomic engineer I'd say that good engineering practice would place the headset jack on the top.
I hate to say it but if we look at well received design models like the iPhone - where is the jack - on the top.....
Anyway if you wish to continue the debate please do it in the review thread You may get more feedback there!
Some may find this interesting, if a little disturbing!

Ooh very cool!
I'd love to see iFix it do the tear down and perhaps a comparison between the NFC/NFC-free versions to see just why the chip was left out and why the extra bulk is there.
thats a damn thin chip!
Ahh I saw this earlier and it made me feel sick.
I know I'd end up losing one of the screws if it was me!
Talk about precision.... This device is truly crafted with in depth expertise.
This was great shows you how to, open it up if you want to paint the device or something.
Does anyone know what type of plastic is used on the sgs2?
I would never be able to do this... Guy must either be really confident or really rich...
But amazing space usage. The huge cluster up top explains why the heating up is almost unnoticeable at the bottom of the phone.
Sent from my SHW-M250S using XDA Premium App
Thanks for posting this,,, going to have to double my dose of high blood pressure meds after watching! And remember once again to breathe.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah,
Wouldn't do that with my (soon to come) new sgs II
But nice vid, seems easier then sgs itself.
I'd love to see what GPS chip is inside there...
that's a sexy phone inside and outside!
