Is there any way of improving sound quality from the standard speaker on the HTC TD ?
The speaker works but is very tinny when compared to other phones in hands free mode.
Is this a hardware issue, and hence nothing can be done, or is there a software frig that will help sound quality ?
hi, it seems when ever a sound question is asked no one seems bothered or have covered it a million times before. I asked the same question and had 300 views without an answer. Sorry pal but if its a sound question i fear youll have to ask in another forum as it seems taboo here. Im currently using my spare diamond and testing some other speakers inside it as there is so much speaker room its untrue, when i find , If i find a good one with a good fit ill pm you and let you know
cheers for now
let me know too when you finished testing please.. btw how much room is in there ? (dimensions)
We need a response from the pros at this.
cos im not ready to pop it open just yet lol

Can't you just post a guide here so everyone would know?
U can increase the sound level using tweaks in Advanced configuration v3.2 but sound quality will decrease .
i think this issue related to the hardware, not to the software issue.

usally with these things you will find if you dont get an answer
then the question has been asked a million times before and everyones
fed up of answering it.this question has been asked since the
diamond first became available.
best to use search first and if nothing comes up thats relevant
then post a question.
thanks for your help guys.
I would, as I am sure others to , be interested in a public posting if you find a speaker that fits and improves the sound quality.
perhaps this can help, woudnt try it myself tough

Nice, but it looks like a gsm phone. My cdma phone looks like I need to remove the entire internal back cover. It looks like one piece.

I disagree . The question of low sound has been from a software , tweak point of view but i asked about replacement speaker inside the phone itselfd from another phone as theres so mcuh room i could pack for a weekend away as well compared to many other phones
Did anybody try that mod or changed the speaker?
i d be curious to hear if it really improved the sound
I used to have a Samsung i730 (WM5) which had "SRS WOW", a software solution that helped with the perception of lousy sound. It did work quite well in making the speakers sound better. I don't know if that could be easily ported over.
Unfortunately, I no longer have that phone.
Not sure how this affects the quality.

I opened up my phone , and i opened the speaker also (first cutting step in the movie).
But next, after inspecting the main speaker housing it seems to have multiple connections wich lead to a black foil covering the housing.
I assume this foil is used as antenna for one or more of the phone's radio's/recievers.
So i assembled it back again without cutting a square trought the housing (step 2) as that would cut a large hole trough the antenna foil.
Volume gain from only opening the speaker (first step in the movie) is not noticable.
With the Touch Pro/Fuze, there were a few people I bumped into that had the device in hand before the release (job perks). Does anyone lurking this forum have the device in hand, or know someone that does?
I played with it in Gitex Dubai - UAE. Looks nice but i hate to judge a device while it is being connected to a power cable and a security cable.

can understand that. lst time i went into a shop to try out a touch diamond just to see the interface, it didn't even work because those idiots at the shop connected the security cable on top of the screen, destroying it ^^
But beside of this, can you tell us about your experience? how big does it feel? whats with the screen size? how does the interface handle on this version . tell us every bit!!
Sure,
Size: seemed big in hand, but again, i beleieve this sense is due to the 'Cables' below and Behind :|
Screen size and quality: simply Amazing.
Performance: seemed excellent, without any lag. better than diamond.
Look & Design: Better than what u see in utube or images

I can't wait any longer. I hope what you saying here we all wait to see for the coming moment of truth, please HTC release our TOUCH HD on the market as soon as possible
haha, i cant wait also for the release ....
as for the keyboard, it is yes, way better than hat on diamond. but i am using TOUCHPAL on diamond, so i can't tell exactly the difference from the built in which i never used.
Good thing, yes, the upper part of the screen is too big where u can see more while typing.

Hi,
May I know the dark silver frame around the screed is made by metal or plastic with plating only?
I was at the phoneshop today...
Seems like they will have it on display inside 10 days.....

Good. I liked the sturdy feel of the Diamond which was largely because of the robust feel that the metal border gives.
Good thing the HD has this too.
Does it feel solid in general? I like a phone that feels heavy and solid. I know the weight spec but it all comes down to the total feel.
Hi,
i love you folks too much.. i am still pretty much here...
as my own way of contribution, i present this thread..
when i wanted to change to touch hd, i was worried.. will i regret etc?
i understood the pain and now i want to help.
if anyone wants to know more about touch hd with ref to X1, ask me, i will be happy to answer...
Great idea.
First impressions of the Touch HD vs. Xperia?
Perhaps a direct comparison of one against the other in all the normal fields?
After having an x1 for some time, you probably have a greater idea of its capabilities compared to the average reviewer who plays with the phone for a couple days before speaking their piece.
What are some of the reactions you get from other people the first time they saw your HD versus reactions when people first saw your x1? Did some people mistake the HD for an iphone?
Thanks for the thread!

1) i get more wows with the touch HD versus the X1... not as iphone look alike, more of.. wow the screen is big
2) the big screen REALLY helps alot.. gps navigation net surfing.. video watching goooood
3) although the lack of real keyboard hampers it.. but with my x1 set and other bros having the same prob, rectify the triple letters or space not pressed etc wasted more time! so i rather do with the virtual keyboard.. the big screen helps alot
4) about battery life.. with the smaller capacity and bigger screen.. shorter.. but not so bad.. after 16 hours of moderate use, 60% left.
updates
The welcome package is good.. SPB GPRS monitor and Sprite backup !
My GPS is not working.. apparently wifi too.. will revert
So basically this is a media consumption device, but not really optimal for those who do a lot of data input. Is that fair to say?
Looking at the size of Touch HD, is it hard for someone to put it in the pocket, especially when wearing jeans?
Cheers.
I think HTC actually includes a warning not to sit with the HD in your pocket.

lol'd
..wait, for real?
yes LOL
it says to prevent damage. remove from pocket before sitting .. something like that.. LOL
but ntc gives u a good pouch to keep it...
touch hd is very good for media.. i view videos on it.. it is great.. taking note the screen is bigger than iphone.. sunlight performance is not very good.. but other than that, it is clear and sharp
external speaker seems to be better than x1.
i feel it is ok in my pocket.. side pocket.. not my bum.
I do use my calender alot for appointments.. the on screen keyboard is ok as the BIG screen makes up for it.. i also installed a small program to provide small vibration feedbacks on typing.. it helps alot...compared to my x1's triple spaces or nothing problem.. i choose this!
BTW my gps is solved.. its a spoilt set.. changed it

if it is those tight jeans with small pockets.. yes i think..
note that touch hd is really slim... so pants should be ok.. the weight is similar to X1 but it feels lighter because of the size distributing the weight
dude, compare with X1,how about the strength of vibrate of HD? My x1 is too bad when it was vibratiing....so,I often miss some call
the vibration is ok.. but i will say it is similar...
however one thing i like about touch hd's vibration is the strength is "adjustable". What i mean is when using touchresponse, X1 will result in a hard vibrate everytime i touch the screen... for touch hd, i can set to only 25miliseconds and it will result in a very nice soft vibrate.. providing me feedback about my screen touches..
am loving my HD.. imho, i love it more than the X1
I don't know why but everytime I see a pic of HD2 on the net I always thought, oh my god this is so awesome. As if I don't already have the phone
Yep pretty much And even more so when I hand it to someone when they ask what it is, and they just stare at how pretty it is.

You let other people hold it??
The EVO 4G is much better looking from the front, the buttons make the HD2 look less sleek.
Although the EVO 4G is ugly as hell from the back where as the HD2 is gorgeous.
Maybe its just preference but I think the EVO looks better all round than the HD2......
.......but I still love my HD2!
Actually I do! At the same time I would have loved for the hardware keys to have been virtual keys like my HD

yeah, hardware keys of the hd is the best. although overall it looks dated now.
i am not in awe anymore when i see my hd2... i just cant tolerate the sight of other *dumb* phones
i cant use phones with *small* screens anymore... the other day i was using another phone and it took about 1 second to load the inbox. and i felt so odd waiting for 1 second
yes, hd2 is 'awe'some
Anybody would else would thing we're crazy, but I swear, I still have a mini orgasm everytime I see a picture of the HD2 on the net... and I have one sitting right in front me. Always!
Some people would compare my reliance on this phone to a relationship with a woman.
Look at it from time to time for no reason at all other than to say... damn that's sexy, or turn on the phone from time to time for no reason at all, just so I can handle it
We need help!

couple of my work mates go the iphone, cant wait till next team meating to rip the piss. loving this phone, dont get me wrong still a couple of probs but sort them soon. sitting next to my omnia thinking what the hell did i see in that so dated now
I just sometimes remove the silicone body protector and stare (fine oogle) at how thin, and sleek, and thin it is...and how perfect it would be with an 8meg pixel cam...and hdmi...and a kickstand...while still being a gsm HD2...sigh...
*will never be happy*
Now I have louder and much less tinny sound!!!!
It fitted quite easily as the over all dimensions are similar and the solder pads are in the same spot. Any one with decent soldering skills could do it.
Only issue is it is a little bit thicker, so the case doesn't fit perfectly. I'm going to attack it with a dremel tonight to try and make it fit better.......
EDIT: I didn't end up using the dremel, but just reassembled it more carefully and put all the screws in. Now the case fits together almost perfectly. It bulges out fractions of a millimeter at the top but you would NEVER know unless you knew.... (if you know what I mean )

It's not like all the posts that you get around "We've delayed 2.1 until 2099" or "I've just updated to 2.1 and it's crap".. etc etc.. some people will think.. oh nice.. OK, here it is.
If you look at this post:

You can see the stock speaker is different (has 3 holes in it)
Thanks to McKebapp for the disassembly guide.
EDIT: I just thought I'd note that the reason I decided to do this is that my speaker wasn't working at all any more. It got full of tiny steel filings when I was making some benches for my workshop. Seings I bought it from the UK, I figured warranty would be too difficult to deal with. I was using speaker phone every time I made a call (don't you hate people who do that?) so I really had nothing to lose.
I'm really glad now though as it has a noticeably better sound. Not just louder but deeper sounding, and doesn't distort like it used to at full volume.
If any one is interested, the offending benches can be seen in this vid (black benches in front of machines):

Vid taken with X10 of course
