Ok Total commander gives you access to the extended rom using the method just posted above.
But if you want to actually have the extended rom showing all time, then you need this...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33680&highlight=extended+rom
The extended rom unlocker will give the actual extended rom as space deginated extended_rom2 and its about 9.85mb size or something with between about 350kb and 2.5mb of .cab files in it depending on whether its a Qtek (Which has the least amount of files), I-mate, o2 or T-Mobile, these last two probably (along with Orange) will have the most 'junk in them.
Once you have ran the exteneded rom unlocker and soft reset your device it will be accesible through file explorer you won't need TC.
You can then go in and delete (be careful to make sure what everything does first) its your own responsibility, and remove what you don't need.
For example on the I-mate Extended Rom you cane remove Backgammon, Skype and the anti virus prog. There wasn't much on the Qtek Rom I just put on mine just clearvue and soemthing else inconsequential, there was no skype or antivirus, but I believe some Qtek roms might have this.
T-Mobile is abother story, there is a shedload of crap in the extended rom, ranging from a today screen toolbar to small progs, there is list knocking about of what each file does. When I changed from T-Mob to I-mate and then Qtek I just transferred the T-Mobile GPRS settings and the GPRS disconnect button .cab and put them in the exteneded Rom myself and let it run.
Also on I-mate Rom there are carrier settings that you can delete which won't apply to you, basically lots fo countries phone settings, like o2 UK, T-Mobile Spain etc etc, depending on where you are in the world.
You can't delete the I-mate .tsk todayscreens as far as I know, they are not in the ExtRom. The Qtek ExtROm doesn't have the extra .tsk's just default and the Guava Bubbles one.
If anyone wants the T-Mobile GPRS .cab and GPRS disconnect button .cab I can send it through msn or email.
that doesn't work either. I treid with the unlocker and deleted the files with TC. If i check the content no files are there, but when i try to copy other files to the ext. Rom it says that the volume is write protected. I softreseted several times also.
Any hint on that ? How have all the others deleted the files in extended rom ?

Might not work for you but it worked for me and a load of others. Once the extended rom is visible you can delete files easily, you don't need TC like I said. Its easier to put additional cabs into my documents sync them across and just run them.
Yeah, that's a pitty.... I have the Vodafone VPA Compact II, which is the Wizard 100 afaik.
Someone around here has the same model and succeeded in removing the cabs from the extended rom ?
I just discoverd that I cannot modify the extended rom (using Total Commander, etc.) How does one unlock it so tht it may be modified?
Thanks,
Frank

Thanks for the response but I haven't had any success after several tries. I tried installing the Wizard unlock cab file and afterwards with Total Commander, I can reset the Read Only bit on all the files and copy the files to my SD card. However, I am unable to delete any files. They appear to be deleted but come back after a soft reset. I would like to especially get rid of all the operator settings files. The rest of the stuff like Skype, Anti Virus and Backgammon I can get rid of using Settings>Remove Programs.
Frank
Isn't "ROM" short for "read only memory"?
hi, I am using Buzz's unlocker for Wizard... it made the ExtROM visible but still it is read only
I need to find how can I delete and add files to it.
Any challenging minds out there?
Total commander does not work with the jamin in my case anyway.
Tried several time with no results.

...well, if anyone can give me a dump of Prophet's bootloader + clean registry export, i can take a look at it..

Buzz,
Thanks for the great offer.
I can give you the clean reg but how can i get you the first part, bootloader thingie?

I have used the Wizard Extended ROM unlock program to unlock the ROM on my Prophet. I now have a copy of the Extended ROM on my SD Card. I'm not concerned about erasing the Extended ROM files, I just don't wan them installed, so I did a Hard Reset and just when it says that it will start installing the additional prorams in 3 seconds, I did a soft reset.
OK, now I have a Prophet without extended ROM. I can now install the stuff that I want.
Most of the cab files I've figured out, Does anyone know what the following extended ROM cabs do? This is from the latest Imate Jamin ROM.
Default_CAAVPPC_IMEI_2.6.77_range.CAB
Default_Imate_PPC_SA_V5.5.03.cab
Default_MP_Shortcut_MMS1_JAVA_VOICE_CV_051213.CAB
Default_PP_TSK.CAB
Default_PP_UAString.CAB
Default_PT_Signed_IconDll.sa.CAB
Default_PT_Signed_Patch_SD.sa.CAB
Thanks heaps,
Matterhorn
Default_CAAVPPC_IMEI_2.6.77_range.CAB is the anti-virus app which used to play havoc in slowing down the KJAM. Maybe this version is better but I uninstalled it using Remove Programs. About the rest I am not sure. At least you don't have Skype, backgammon and the Operator Settings files so I expect you will gain a fair amount.
Frank
you can use wince cab manager to see the content of the cab file.
Still nothing? Guess I will go the way of Matterhorn when I need to do a hard reset. Several others have not installed the Extended ROM at all and have reported significant speedup in the JAMin.
Frank
That would be me. I haven't installed one thing off the extended rom and my speed is really pretty good. You can see a video review at the link below to compare the m600 and the jamin (with no extended rom). Keep in mind I don't use mms, skype, antivirus anyway....so no big deal to leave off the ext rom. I also use adobe and don't need the clearview .pdf. Hope the video helps
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=849592
Thanks, Mike. I don't use the stuff either except MMS once in a while but can just as easily use email for that. I presume Voice Dial is in the Extended Rom but rather have MS VC anyway and things like Connection Manager, Messaging, etc., that I want are not in the Extended ROM so I should be fine.
Now to find time to do a hard reset and re-install my apps.
Frank
Everyone has diffrent issues, I was able to delete the files from there (verified by refreshing the dir, and I recieved no read only error) but I was unable to write files to it, which I thought was very strange, I am using APA_ext_rom_unlock.exe and it does NOT give me the success msg it acts like it hasnt even ran. I updated my ROM to teh test one that was floating auround 2.8.7 whatever, and I realized too late that aWizard has no way to reflash teh extended ROM so I am without all my Cingular apps and I have all the 2.8.7 Extended rom stuff with the 1.8 Cingular OS ROM which I reverted back to. Any suggestions how I can replace my extended ROM ?
any luck so far?
Hi guys,
Are we getting any hope/luck to unlock Ext ROM for JAMin/Prophet?
I don't know how you guys are doing it. I have tried several times to delete items in my extended rom using total commander, at least 10 times and the result is the same. After the hard reset all that was deleted was re-installed after the reset.
I have contacted TC a while ago, and have not heard anything, maybe they are working on it.
Just curious....as I'm new to this ext rom stuff....but why don't you just "not install" the ext rom. Then use gsfinder to install whichever .cabs you want? If any? Just curious as I may be missing something.

No, I think the end result would be pretty much the same. For me I would like an Extended ROM for the JAMin that includes exacty what I want installed - no Backgammon, AntiVirus, Smart Dialing, Skype and a single Operator Settings file for TMO USA. Then when I hard reset I don't have to mess with anything else, just let it go. I had my KJAM setup that way and I would like the JAMin to be the same. I would also be as close to an OEM install as I can get (without the junk) so I don't have to worry about proper default settings not being there because of some file I didn't install or installed in the wrong order. Having said all this and thinking about it more I am sure you would get to the same point doing your procedure and then installing the required .cab files in the proper order.
Now I have a question:
Wonder what would happen if I did a hard reset, then did the soft reset to stop the Ext ROM install, installed the required .cab files in order, soft reset and then restored from a Sprite BU file. Wonder would I be restoring any files that could cause problems due to an imcomplete ROM install? I guess I will have to try that first since I do hate to re-install a bunch of apps and especially have to re-enter all the reg codes.
Frank
OK, I understand how to do it with either the NoID updater or with HTC64 - that's not the problem...
What I want to know is this: if I change the Orange ROM to the latest i-Mate ROM, what happens to all the Orange network settings? Will I lose them or will the update only affect OS-type things?
Alternatively, which files in the Orange ROM will I need to replace in the i-Mate ROM (if I cook up a ROM of my own) in order to get the speed of the i-Mate ROM with all the Orange settings?

I guess it depends on which settings. If you are talking about mobile operator settings (like MMS, SMS, GPRS) then they are normally stored in a cab file in the extended ROM so all you have to do is copy the Orage extendedrom to your hard drive, flash the imate ROM, then install the appropriate cab file from the orange rom by copying it to the sd card and double clicking.
If you are talking about other settings (Wallpaper, splash screens, etc.) then this is ROM specific.
I may be wrong but I guess this is how it is.
It's just mobile operator settings I'm after.
I'm worried that once I install the i-Mate ROM I won't be able to use my phone. I know there's a long post that gives all the Orange settings but it just seems silly to have to enter them manually if there's a cab file that does it all for you, you know?
Thinking about it, could I install the i-Mate ROM then run the appropriate Orange cab file?
I believe that's what i said in my message
Hehe these settings are stored in your extendedROM. Do you know how to access ExtendedROM?
Give me a list of the files you have there.....I'm sure you can spot the operator settings. Or if you want, install Imate ROM then bypass it's extendedROM then install all orange CAB files that you transfered from ExtendedROM of orange to the PC.
Yes, I've already got the Extended ROM visible and writable.
This is the complete list of CAB files in the SPV M5000 Extended ROM:
CAB-Customization-OrangeUK-Universal-01-05-15Aug05.CAB
CAB-Shortcut-Orange-19Aug05.CAB
Enable_VT_RTPlugin_0727_2_signed.CAB
Signed_DiscoButton8.sa.CAB
Signed_Orange_SuspendResume.sa.CAB
Signed_Orange_UAString.sa.CAB
Signed_ORUK_Conn.sa.CAB
Signed_ORUK_Customize.sa.CAB
Signed_ORUK_HomeScreenReg.sa.CAB
Signed_ORUK_SoundSetting_USSDAlarm.CAB
Signed_ORUK_Version.sa.CAB
Signed_pIE_Fav.sa.CAB
Signed_SSD_BTUR_Patch_For_BT_Cannot_Initial.sa.CAB
Signed_SSD_Shortcut_WWE.sa.CAB
Signed_SSD_WLanMgr_Orange_Icon_WWE.sa.CAB
Signed_UNI_pIE_View_Set.sa.CAB
UI_Orange_UK_0727.cab
UNI_BrowserPerformance.sa.CAB
UNI_Orange_2G3G_icon.sa.CAB
How about this, try this:
1. Install Imate ROM
2. Unlock/Unhide ExtendedROM
3. Delete Imate ExtendedROM and copy everything from the Orange ExtendedROM
4. Hard Reset
This will install the orange extended ROM
Now if you get some trouble with security/signing, there is a cab file in the XDA DEV ftp site that can handle this.... Just make the extended rom run this first before everything else.
OR
Just hard reset, bypass extended rom install, unlock/unhide extended ROM and then click on the files one at a time

Hi Guys,
New here , so please forgive all stupidity....
I've got the new jasjar rom, about to flash my Orange SPV M5000, I'm currently running it without the orange customization, ie, i hard reset, reloaded the rom, then soft reset to avoid orange rubbish being, loaded, then manually reset the gprs etc,
If i flash the jasjar, will i get the same situation, but a quicker phone?
Any ideas?
Thanks,
James
Er....why did no-one mention that after installing the i-Mate ROM the phone then asks which operator you're with and then sets itself up accordingly?
Im an M5000 owner too that was wondering about flashing to the imate rom...
Im after the microsoft direct push client thats on the new imate rom.
OK, plucked up the courage to upgrade to the jasjar rom, but I get a country ID error message,
Any ideas?
James.
Did you put the PPC in bootloader mode first?
Did you use MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe?
No, where do i get that from?
i just ran the jasjar rom exe....
Any ideas now?
J.
Extract all the files from the Jasjar .exe file to one folder with WinZip.
Replace "ROMUpgradeUt.exe" with "MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe" - you'll find it below.
Disconnect your phone from the USB cable.
Press and hold LIGHT + POWER + RESET until the screen goes white and it says "serial" at the top.
Plug in the USB cable. "Serial" will change to USB.
Double-click on "MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe" - the PC and phone will do the rest.
If you get a country error, just repeat the process.
download roms
where can I download the imate extended rom and the orange extended rom?
thanks for that, i've opened with Win Rar and got two folders OutputFile and RUU_Tools.
Sound right?
Then I drop the maupgrade app into RUU/Universal/WWE?
All good?
Thanks,
J.
Also, if i run the ma upgrade , nothing happens.....get the run dialog, then nothing.........
Ideas?

J.

Did you backup to your PC the Orange ExtendedROM? The Settings customizations were there.
If not try the XDA DEV FTP site. THey have extendedROM's there for download. Don't know if they have Orange ROM but just download it then put in SD card and run the appropriate CAB file.
Check the wiki of xda dev for instructions on how to connect to FTP site
Can someone share with me about how to uninstall the pre-installed softs in O2 atom and how to access the ATOM extended rom.
I have already tried to install some extended rom in this forum, but it doesn't work. If you know one which works out well, please tell me how can I get it.
With the previous O2 model, after hard reset, we can soft reset during the installation of the attached software. However, with o2 atom, I can see no installation process for the attached software. I want to know about how to uninstall these software as I don't really need to use all of them.
Thanks all
Attached is a small app, install it, rest it your atom and you should be able to access your extended rom, be carefull though of what you do, advice to copy the content of the e.rom to your sd card in case you have to undo any changes.
MOst of the software which is preinstalled on XDA ATOM is into the rom image , in the extended rom there are some files, thets why you dont see any instalation after flashing, because the apps are already installed with the rom

Bothe the XDA Atom and the HP iPAQ hw6915 and rx6815 are made by Quaranta. The extended ROM of my hw6915 isn't able to unhide with the registry hacks I had from the HTC devices.
Could the above unhide cab be installed on my hw6915 and if neccesary be UNinstalled ? Could the underlying registry hack be provided ?
Many thanks in advance.
EDIT:
The .cab installs on the hw6915, but the extended ROM isn't shown. The unlocker does the same as the extended ROM unlock on HTC devices.
Anybody can tell me how to unlock extend rom?thanks.
Sorry, i make a mistake!
Have the hermes ext rom ulocker been tested on an artemis? Earlier attempts with wizard ext rom unlocker on artemis managed to unlock the extended rom for a short while (at least made contents visible though not really removable)...but after soft resets strange things would happen with the extended rom...it would sometimes be visible and at other times not.
Has the hermes ext rom unlocker been tested for stability on the artemis? Does it allow use of the extended rom or just visibility?
Looking forward to your answer.

well mr "moderator" wlinsong,
how about checking on the info you spread!?
WRONG WRONG, WRONG, not functioning!
The versions you are claiming to unlock the extrom have more than once screwed up the extroms of the people using them. afaik, the cited versions allow you to see the extrom, fiddle with it, and once you reboot the machine your extrom is screwed up, or rather not loading on reset any more.
there are numerous cases of users cited on this forum who experienced so!

The ExtROM unlocker by Buzz for the Universal (see Universal topics) works on both my Universal and Artemis.
After unlocking you need to unhide the ExtROM, by doing the following in the register:
[HKLM\System\StorageManager\AutoLoad\TRUEFFS_DOC1]
Bootphase=dword:2
[HKLM\System\StorageManager\Profiles\TRUEFFS_DOC1]
MountHidden=dword:0
JayRay's solution not working for me
JayRay,
I tried your suggestion but the external rom remains unlocked. As usual, to start with it looks like you can write files to external rom but after a soft reset they are all gone.
Let me know if you manage to have a stable unlocked rom.
Same here (T-mob NL). The utility from Buzz doesn't give a popup message either, does it run on the artemis properly anyway?

Weird...
The ExtROM became visible by applying the reg tweaks I mentioned before, and I used the Uni ExtROM unlocker to try to unlock it.
The popup message that appeared on my Uni didn't come on the Artemis, but after clicking on the file I just went through a soft reset.
That was all. The ExtROM was really unlocked and still visible.... and seems to stay that way.
A good way to test if it's really unlocked is to try and install a program (cab) into the extrom. If you can install it and the program works then you are clearly unlocked. Have you done this?
Thanx

Hi JayRayMee
Some Noob questions
After you unlock and unhide the EXTRom, how did you add the programs that you like. Is it just copying the cab files onto the EXTRom? How do you remove programs that you dont like? And is there a way to hide it again after you add up your programs?
Cheers

The ExtROM, once unlocked, just behaves like any other SD card storage.
By reversing the reg tweaks as mentioned before, you can hide the ExtROM again.
