ActiveSync via WiFi? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi, is there a way to get ActiveSync to work via WiFi?

I'm afraid MS has not supported async in 4.0 onwards over wifi
Really stupid move by MS, and I guess they'd be fixing it in the next release.....they better do!

Activesync schedule and standby

Hi everyone,
first of all i want to thank you all for the excellent work... this forum is really a gold mine...
Anyway, my problem is:
I set Activesync (the one in the phone) to syncronise once every hour with my company's Exchange server between 9:00 and 17:00. As my company entire building is fully covered by WiFi, I was expecting activesync would use WiFi to syncronise, and connected to GPRS when that is not available...
Insted, with my great surprise, Activesync uses always GPRS !
I think that when AS turns the devices on, it finds no connected interfaces - WiFi need at least 5 seconds to connect - so it connects to GPRS!
The only solution I found is to schedule an appointment with an alarm to the device is on (and connected) when AS syncronises, but this leave some ugly "scars" on my calendar...
Anyone knows a solution for this problem?
If I understand You correct You use the Universal for syncing. This means You use ASync 4.0 or 4.1. I recall that Microsoft changed (for security reasons) the way to synchronize with ASync. Bluetooth is still available, but WiFi is NOT available anymore.
Not a nice information, but should "solve" your problem. No sorry, that's not solve, but "answer".

Currntly WM5 prevent you to sync with your computer through WiFi, but syncing with Exchange server is working - if I start Activesync manually it syncs using WiFi. If I am too fast (and manage to click sync before the WiFi is connected), it syncs through GPRS.
OK, sorry for that.
I am the one here now receiving information, where I wanted to answer You. Thanks very much for that information, but sorry I cannot be of any help.
I tried to contact with our ExchangeServer. It works through USB whilst connected to my office-PC, but does not work through WiFi, GPRS or even while being connected through USB to my home-PC. I am quite sure it has to do with our Exchangeserver not being configured correctly so I stopped bothering (more important things to do
As I have NO sync with the exchange working through GPRS I am not even getting as far as You are, not even noticing the problem You mention.
Hope somebody else will be of more help.

If you are not able to connect from the WiFi network and from home, this means that your system administrator does not trust internet and wireless, so he let you only connect through the office wired network...
I have not tested that, but I believe that Exchange uses an SSL connection, which should be safe even if you are connected through an unencrypted channel...
Normal AS connections (USB for example) are not encrypted, and MS, in its infinite wisdom, think that the user is too stupid to setup a wireless network properly (to be honest, i am still not able to connect with the Universal to my WPA home network)
My/our system administrator is willing to let me in, but simply does not know the exchange server software well enough to understand where he is making a mistake. He offered me to try as he was sure that he prepared the system correctly, the result was a no-go.
When we both get some spare time (which hardly happenes) we will try out some more. As with the internal firewall, spending enough time looking through the microsoft information will finally solve the problem, it's just that lack of time.
Pity that nobody else jumped on this thread yet to help You,
Ruud

Sync via WiFi in WM5 ???

As far as I know, we can sync our PPC with desktop via USB, Serial, Infrared and Bluetooth. But, in WM2003 we can do it via WiFi too. Does anybody know how to make PPC with WM5 sysnc via WiFi?
there is no way to sync with Wifi in WM5.
Thank you very much, dear brain-damadged guy from microsoft, god bless you for removing wifi-sync from activesync 4.x! Btw, AS4.1 doesn't work on my win2k professional, it cannot connect to the prophet via usb. So I cannot sync at all.
I hate f*cking microsoft and their crappy software!

How can you be sure that we can't sync with Wifi in WM5? How about later version that will be released in the near future?
Why they (Microsoft) has to remove ability to sync with Wifi out from WM5 (this ability available in WM2003)?
Are there any other ways or utilities to do that?
From what I understand, the option to sync via WiFi was removed from AS 4.0 and up for 'security reasons'. AS 4.2 is now out and now WiFi sync in sight.
I remember reading some ware about some kind of bypass for WiFi syncing but can't find the link right now. Try googling.
Still no WiFi Sync, *sigh*
yeah as is at 4.5 and all development as far as i know have stop'd on the product
so i would not hold my breath
With AS 4.5, there is no WiFi synching, and from reading the AS development teams blog, they took it out for security reasons and are not going to bring it back.

WM5/WM03 OS/AS Hybrid for wifi AS

*deleted* (It was irrelevant)
I also really want a wifi enabled version of ActiveSync
Hopefully something will come soon.
ms stop'd developing on activesync awhile agoe i believe
as vista dont use it

net on phone via pc

hi,
does anybody know if we can use internet from pc on the x1 via bluetooth...
i tried finding on google but in vain...can anybody help me regarding this...
ps: i am aware that we can use internet connection via usb cable...what i want to know is that can we use it via bluetooth...and whats the procedure...
thanks in advance...
so many views and no replies???
i really only think it will work the other way around. if you have 3g using the x1 as a bluetooth modem so you can get internet on your pc. unless you have a highspeed internet connection on your pc that isn't already wireless, in which case you can buy a usb wifi adapter for pretty cheap. i dunno if this was any help...
bleh. disregard most of that. i'm sleepy... i only read half. yes it is possible to use your phone as a bluetooth modem though
thanks dude...
the thing is that i hav a really fast pc connection and its cheap...whereas the phone internet service is costly...so i was just wondering if its possible...(net fron pc to phone via bluetooth)
thanks anyways...cheers
Actually there is a way.....
If you establish an bluetooth active-sync connection.
You should be able to surf the net via the bluetooth connection...
But it is still more efficient to go by wi-fi....
Stuart
awesome dude...ill check it rightaway..thanks
doesnt work...detects the serial port..but connection fails..
I know that with Palm OS PDA we used Mocha PPP, perhaps you can give it a try.
Else perhaps an adhoc connection if you want to try Wifi.
yes being connected to activesync with bluetooth give the phone the network access of the pc
been doing it since i had an old wm2003 device
or you can do this if you dont want to use activesync

Try initial the BT detection from yr PC (or the other way as I don't remember.). The "serial port" will be replaced w/ ActiceSync eventually.
It does work but it depends on your contract
The carrier company can tell if you are browsing through your phone or using internet sharing. I am on O2 and it does not have this, but if I put my T-Mobile sim card in, it works fine. PC's use higher bandwidth and this costs the mobile companies.
If you want to use it, I recommend using the USB lead as bluetooth and 3G connection will abuse your battery.
To use, press start, programs internet sharing. You can only use it if you have activesync on your pc, USB mode is activesync and your mobile provider lets you.

he want to do the opposite he want to surf using his computers internet not
letting his computer use his phone internet
so i was right the first time. all he needs is a usb wifi adapter.

something kind of like that
and you won't even have to use bluetooth after you set it up. just turn on your wifi in the comm manager

This method may not work anymore since PAN client is being removed in recent WM release. You may need to try this to get PAN client working. I posted my working experience over there w/ my Att tilt. But this method require a lot more effort to get it working compare to activesync.
yeah... you guys are backwards on this

why would anyone want to buy additional hardware when it "should" be possible to use the current internet connection on your PC over bluetooth?

i thought the bluetooth internet sharing only works one way...?
if you go to internet sharing on the phone, you choose bluetooth pan and then a connection that your phone uses to connect to the internet. that's not what he wants. someone correct me if i'm wrong and there's another way to do this bc i'm really not sure.

ActiveSync 3.8

Hey Fellows,
I have a question.
Is there a way to get the Xperia working with ActiveSync 3.8 instead od 4.5?
The reason why I want to do that is, that the 3.8 does allow wifi and LAN Connections from the Mobile to the Desktop.
I installed the ActiveSync 3.8 but after connecting the Phone I get the message, that the Xperia needs ActiveSync 4.5 or higher in order to Sync .
Now, is there a workaround to get the holw thing to work?
Would be nice, if one has an idea.
Btw.: Here is a link to the 3.8 Version. If somebody wants to try. http://www.hpcfactor.com/support/syncsoft/activesync/#Download
Cheers
Jens
all wm6.0 (i think even 5) devices require activesync 4.5,
they only way is for someone to hack as3.8 to support wm6.
