Energy Shock At The Body from MDA PRO if charging and closed - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi All,
i have figured something out:
If i charge my MDA PRO and i touch the (RVS) solid body of it my finger gets an energy shock. I Only feel it as the MDA PRO is closed.......weird!
If I open the screen and i touch the body i dont feel it.
More of you people has felt this? (i mean if you are charging the phone and calling with it (so put the phone at your face :S) i dont know if this is normal ????
Ok that was it, just fresh figured it out so i thougth let post it......!

nobody?

What you feel is a slight static charge from the metal casing. I've had a few devices like this. I think its due to the high amount of current/voltage being delivered to the batteries.

No shock, but if you slide your finger on the shell of the device, you can feel enrgey passing through the device which is quite normal.

yeh, i get it all the time with my XDA Exec..... nasty loud snappy static shock. anything we can do to avoid it?

Wear your slippers when if you are walking on a carpeted floor. This is dangerous as it can cause damage to your data on you RAM and ROM if the conditions are right.

ok ok thanks guys so my universal is OK
i thought maybe something wrong!
OK Thanks!
ps is there an way to remove the t-mobile logo at the top (at the shock-plate hehe) without scrathing it...? And has someone done it (is there an picture available how the device looks like then?)

xperia gets hot 45°C...barebecue on my hand!

hey,
I read on here that some of us had pb about hot temperature while using the phone.
mine goes up to 45°C(yes I checked with BATTI 2.4) any software solution?
it gets hot when I call, surfing the web on opera, mp3 player...and even when it's charging.
I think it comes from the battery but maybe someone noticed something else?
I think it's normal when you use wi-fi or multitask.
normal ? i don't think its normal haha 45c how you can say its normal for a telephone?.. explaine me
mine only get hot when I use gps
also temp measure programs don't measure
what temp your device is on the surface it's
the batt temp
and batts get hot when much juice is drawn
it's weird because I had many HTC before and it got hot but never like that! maybe it's normal to get hot but so much seems bad to me!
my thesis is that the pb comes from the battery, would it be possible? by replacing by a new one, it would change for sure?
It's normal, its just that the battery cover of the x1 is from metal so it feels much hotter then an plastic battery cover of other htc phones
smart answer, didn't think about it.
I'll check on my old htc3600, finally htc is not so idiot by making cells 100%plastic.
I'm thinking, if you're right, is this pb of battery is known on the Iphone 1generation?(since the xperia and iphone have metal cover)

don't feel anything... I use the plastic case
which plastic case?
dd you take off the metal cover from the cell?
I suspect he mean a case

wowow I just realized about the case: even if you use a plastic case/cover, the phone gets hot everywhere(back ANDFRONT)! so the case doesn't change a lot???
my gets hot when plugged to car charger, less hot when using wi-fi
Dont use batti that causes overheating problem.I was using batti and i got same problem as you.Use wm battery.Cheers.
I have this experience for example with skype. Launch skype (even without WIFI), pres 'power off' and the display will go down .. but skype will still be active and it will even send some data, all the time.
In few minutes you can warm your hands with Xperia.
Anyway it does not seem to harm the battery, it just drains it.

you r right, it's worth it to try.
which case do you have?
you should try this
look in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=514647 it should help with your overheat problem, i installed it myself and had a drop in temperature very quickly.

HTC Magic Screen Question

Hey guys,
New to these forums here, Love the forums, not much of a linux-head I just do VHDL & Verilog
Enough for the intro; I have a question and I hope somebody here can help.
I bought the rogers Magic not too long ago, came from the iPhone 3GS and noticed something peculiar which I hope is not a fault of my device.
I noticed that if you have your Magic laying flat, and you try to swipe or actually touch the screen, it does not register anything. I have to have it in my hand for it to actually register any input from my fingers! Is this normal? or is it a manufacturing fault?
I tested it against my iPhone and even though they're both capacitive, it seems like the range of sensitivity might be toned down quite a bit on the Magic compared to the Apple device?
Thank you,
GenoMalice!
Mine doesn't do that. That's odd!

Sorry, just to clarify Taknarosh
You can keep the phone lying flat, on your bed for example, and swipe around and it registers your swipes?
Thanks for the reply,
GenoMalice
I just tested mine lying flat and it seems to work fine.
I have the 32B Vodafone UK version, although I doubt that makes a difference.
You know I was just thinking about this as well, I've got the same issue with my 32B. I've noticed that it sometimes registers when the phone is not held/touched by another hand. But that is a strange issue...
I have two Magics (32A and 32B) and they both behave the same way you described. It is much easer to make phone response to the touching if you hold the device in your hand.
omg this happens to me too! if its laying on my desk the touch screen almsot never registers. when its in my hand or on a cloth or something it has no problems!
what rom are you using?
when i first got my rogers htc magic, it was exactly as you described. After I rooted it and started using myhero, the problem disappeared, i can now perfectly control my phone even if it's on a flat surface.
same issue on both stock 1.6 and latest CM 4.2.8.1.. I highly doubt this is a software issue
i also having a same prob .. maybe the htc magic need reboot .. after flashing new ROM .. the problem disappear .. weird ...
Same issue here, most of the time it is with my car mount while using Google nav. I'm using CM 4.2.11.2 on a 32A. It will not recognize my finger or the tip of my thumb but if I use the flat part of my thumb (quite awkward at a arms length by the way) it works fine. I also have had this happen when on a desk, it seems to be more noticeable when my hands are cold (maybe coincidence)
Sorry Double Post
It is issue connected with capacitive screen. The phone needs ground. It is not working good not because of flat surface, but because it needs ground. So when phone is on the wooden surface or it is in car handheld - then screen is less responsive.
You can test it. Lay your phone down where usually it is less responsive, and then plug in charger. The phone will be grounded, and screen will act like holded in hand
Sorry about my english, I know it is not good.

Sorry for the extra-late reply but this is, pardon me, retarded.
You do know that the outershell of the phone is all plastic, right? And you do know that plastic is non-conductive, right? So, how the hell is your hand grounding the phone if all your touching is plastic?
The real answer to why so many of us have this problem with the Magic is most likely because HTC cheaped out and put some crap plastic covering over the display instead of glass a la iPhone/Nexus One/Milestone/Droid or even Hero.
P.S. I moved on from the Magic to the Milestone and couldn't have been happier... EFF ROGERS for ruining it for me!
Maybe because when a phone is flat you touch the screen differently. Think about it; when you have your phone in your palm and are using either your thumb or index finger, you are most likely touching the screen between the pad and tip of your finger, or the pad of your finger. Lay your phone flat on a table and you try like many other people try to do; touching the phone with the tip of your finger. This makes it a bit more difficult for touch capabilities to recognize the heat signature from your finger.
This could be the issue entirely because I lay my phone flat and never had a problem except for my fingers and wrist hurting from odd angles of approach to use my phone.

Help, black 'liquid' spots, what to do

Hi Guys,
This morning I suddenly noticed black 'liquid' spots 'behind' my screen. The screen stills works perfectly, but not sure what to do with these spots.
Should I bring it in for repair (reflashing to original ROM, etc)?
These are spots like we used to see on LCD screens, if you press the screen, they get bigger. If I take out the battery and press from the inside, the spots move as well. I reckon there is some pressure build up in the device and would like to open it myself, but that would void the warrenty of course.
Attached 2 photos, 1 with screen off (clearly visable) and 1 with screen on (not really bothersome).
anybody seen this before?
FTrippie
ink bleeding, u should get it to repair asap, lcd is messsed up
My mistake, the other members are right, I am sorry as I could not see your pictures correctly because I was browsing with my hd2.... it is not ink bleeding, for that, you have to have the lcd broken..... anyway, I am glad is not bleeding, now, lets learn from the other members.... cheers..
There are quite a few threads with people having the same issue, I don't believe it's bleeding like suggested above, it is the layers of the screen sticking together. I had the same problem on my old LG Viewty about three years ago - sometimes it goes away on it's own (when the phone gets hot for example) and sometimes you need to get a replacement. If it's new I suggest you speak to either your provider or HTC.
Use a suction cup to carefully pull the screen a little bit and it should disappear.
Brgds... /TubGirl
Same thing happened to me, and few other members... Have a look here.
Grtz
Lukas
Thanks for the quick response guys!
Yep, it's exactly what happened in thread mentioned
(did some searching but couldn't find it before)
the suction cup idea might be a good one, will check it out and let you know. If I can solve it myself it would be much better than sending it in.
thanks!
(newton ring ) this is dueto great pressure happened on the screen if not fixed in short time the screeen will be corrubted .
note; (it is not covered by warranty)
Nope, in my case no pressure whatsoever. It just happened overnight. If it would be pressure, it would be from a faulty manufacturing and elements of the device not fitting well.
Just read the whole case in the other thread, I think I am in for some treat.
Will start with calling my dealer, which is Vodafone Spain.

mab be it would be from a faulty manufacturing but fix it fast before the screen corrubts from over pressure as this happened on hd1 and they did not want to fix it under warranty
If this happened to me and I couldn't get rid of it, I would go ballistic if HTC claimed it wasn't covered by the warranty. What a total piss take.
i can understand the newton ring effect on resistive screens, but on capacitive screens using glass - i find it hard to believe.
Yes, ardsar. My thougths exactly.
I had Newton rings on my touch hd. And I was informed that that is imposible on capacative screen because it is made of hard material, top layer cannot fall on the lower one.
Whatever it is, I hope it's not a recurring issue. In my thread three HD2 had that issue, and now another one...
Exactly Lukass, I hope this is just coincidence.
I just reflashed the original ROM and will take it this afternoon. In the end I decided not to try to get rid of it myself, since it is now plain visible. And I only had it for 2 weeks, so of it goes.
Let's see what they say.
I had this, repaired by repair service under warranty. The report said it was newton ring.
well, I just brought it in, estimated return is 11th March, let's hope that it will be quicker!
cheers!
Yes it is a newton ring caused by pressure perhaps if you keep the phone in the trouser pocket which is tight.I had the same but as repaired under warranty in 2 days.
Be careful not put to much pressure when putting the battery in, since its a very thin layer between the battery and the LCD. I think this can cause the LCD come in contact with the digitizer if you are not careful.
propably heating issue
has anyone got the idea that this may have been caused by heat? maybe when the internal components of the phone heats up this causes the gap (spot) on the screen. can anyone confirm what is behind the spot? is it the processor? i've got this idea because before switching to hd2 i was using SE xperia x1 and maybe most of you are aware of the cracking issues of the silver casing. well according to my local SE representative this cracking was caused by heating when using wifi. it was covered by warranty since it's a manufacturing defect. HD2 also heats up when using wifi and maybe thats what causing this problem. well its just my idea. feel free to share yours.

i had the exactly the same problem, and fixed it!!!! what i did was to heat it up with a hair dryer while it was on charge(this causes the battery to heat up as well) the spot started to shrink slowly took around 2 hours, but it didnt solve my problem total, as when it cools down the spot would comeback but not as large as b4. so getting pissed of with it i put it on charge from my laptop and placed my hd2 behind the air vent of my laptop(where the heat escapes) and continued working, i forgot my phone was there for about 5-8 hours. when i remembered it was there i moved it, whole phone was very hot not so hot that i couldn't hold it but hot enough. the spot had gone totally. but i thought it would comeback when cooled, so i decided to cool it slowly placing it back behind my laptop but moving it further away at 10 min intervals until it was around a foot a half away from the heat. i now have my hd2 working fine. with no spots.... my theory on this is that the liquid had been pushed else where within the phone as i couldn't see any liquid seeping from the phone so by heating the whole phone wherever the liquid was it thinned and cover the spot but upon cooling it would compress again dont quite understand how i worked around that but it worked

Nexus One touch screen doesn't work properly when horizontal

Hi, I've now used the Nuxus One for a few days and I'm pretty happy with it and all it's fancy fetures.
The phone works flawlessly and the only minor issue I'm willing to report is the fact that when the phone is lying on the table the touchscreen doesn't respond as quickly as it does when holding it in hand..
I've also noticed that if you touch the shell of the phone with a finger while trying to use the touchscreen, everything goes back to normal.
Is it a flaw only present in mine or is it an issue that involves the capacitive touch screen of the Nexus?
Video Proof
This is the video I've taken with my other phone so it would me much clearer what I mean..
The quality is not great but I hope it will be explicative enough..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXPpyGwuSzM
mine work correctly, try it on another table
I've tried it on different surfaces but the result it's the same..
Problem is that it doesn't always do it, so it's difficult to judge if a surface works better than an other.
I've called HTC support and together with them I've done some tests, like letting another person use it the same way, but nothing changes.
I've also done a hard reset and nothing has changed so I think I will have to send it in hoping they will fix it..
I envy you in the US where you can just ask for a replacement...
Is it possible that your fingers are real dry and or you are working in a dry low humidity environment?

Hi,
I don't think so, since I've now tried it in different environments and by different people...
This is very weired..and annoying..
I've had my Nexus One for over a month, but I recall having the same issue one day early on.
Similarly, I've had days where I can't operate the touchpad on my notebook computer because my fingers were dried out from handling solvents.
I have an associate that has a similar issue when the phone is in a leather holster case. She has to take the phone out on occasion to operate it, most while driving.
havent had any issues. Call them for a replacement
I think I will do so!
The problem is minor but sometimes can be a real nuisance..
Looks like screen isn't grounded properly.
Yes, I think so too. It must be something electrical. When I keep it in hand or touch it, the static electricity must not influence it, but it does so if I try using it lying on its own.
I've taken another video changing the surface on which I use it on..
Take a look: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZ-nS_h5Pqs
I'm glad to see you're still investigating. Because the problem is so repeatable, and the fact that its not a common complaint, I'd conclude theres a something wrong with your phone.
One thing I'd try is to remove the battery for 8hrs (overnight) and see if that make a difference. I've worked with a lot of electronic devices that behave badly after receiving a static discharge. Sometimes leaving it sit without power helps the static dissipate.
But the fact that it works while on the laptop would indicate a poor ground from the touchscreen circuit to the chassis of the phone, as the proximity of the laptop changes the capacitance of the internal circuit enough to overcome the lack of effect that the chassis alone needs to provide.
hehe I have to investigate to be sure this is a bug relative to my device so that when I will send it in for repair they will have to find a way to solve it and not just pretend it doesn't exist...
try pressing with all skin and not with your nail. It needs heat to work.

No, it doesn't. To prove it, hold a metal spoon and slide it across your screen. Mine works.
this was a common problem on the G1 and the way the capacitive screen was designed. In order for it to be functioning completely, HTC told users that he needed to have it in his hand or at least a finger or two touching the phone. HTC said that it simulated a circuit (the hand on the phone made a complete circuit while just touching it left the circuit incomplete) I have noticed the same thing on the N1... it works great in my hand on if i am touching the sides with a finger and scrolling or using it, but if i just lay it down and try to scroll/touch with 1 finger it becomes much less responsive, the same way the G1 would.
i will see if i can find the exact thread over in the G1 forums where all this is posted.
It makes sense, but then, why others work? mmm...

The only thing I found while googling is that you need some humidity in the air for it to work effectively. I'm really not sure if that applies to this specific design though.
I've never had an issue with using the screen on a table, so this is probably isolated, I'd give htc a call and ask for repairs.
Edit: I just tried for the hell of it doing the pinky touch on the frame, and the soft buttons became much more responsive. Hmm

Weird problems. Whats your opinion?

Thought I'd share my story. I recently got a swap out for a "dusty" screen. My new phone seemed OK. A few days passed by and my camera flash started acting up and not working... Today I woke up and NOTHING on the top half of my phone works. Meaning my ear peice, my 3.5mm jack, my camera, or flash, or proximity/light sensors... nothing. But the speakerphone works, my screen is fine. and my microphone works. kinda odd!
It almost like the top PC board got disconnected internally or something.
Just thought this was a strange issue. Already requested yet ANOTHER swap from HTC. Hopefully this next one can make me beleive this phone was worth it.
On another note. I did get my phone "ghost armored" at a cart in the mall pretty much immediately upon receiving it from fedex. And they do spray a small amount of soapy liquid on the outside of the phone to apply the skins. Do you think this could be enough to cause water damage? I'm afraid HTC is going to charge me for "non warranty problems" if the guys at ghost armor caused this! Its a very "fine mist" they use so I think it would be hard to penetrate the phones seals. But who knows? Whats your opinion?

water can literally penetrate the smallest most microscopic points. but i dont know think "mist" could do any harm. i think it sucks that you're having bad luck with all these though man.
I like straweberries, they taste good. When eaten slightly chilled they are refreshing as well. And the things you can do with them... fresh fruit topping for cereal, pancakes, yogurt, or you can make them into jam/jelly/compo(sp?)
Anyways, yes, it is possible for your device to have received water damage, this is why I have not and will never put something on my phone that requires the use of water in the application process. And it might even be probable given that on the top of the phone you have a 3.5mm jack, speaker housing, and when you take the back off this gets exposed... and I am guessing they removed the back before misting it, so even more water can get into that area causing major issues.

Haha, thanks for your opinion on strawberrys.
I believe they remove the battery, but put the battery cover back on before misting. They also leave the device off while they do this and tell you to leave it off for an additional 2 hours (i left mine off for 6 or 7 hours.)
Even leaving it off, if water gets it, it gets in, and starts causing the circuits and what not to corrode.
I will say, I think it is highly unlikely that you do have water damage causing this problem. If HTC says no go, water damage, those misty dudes are responsible and liable to replace your device/pay for repairs. But, I do highly doubt it.
Still, there is a chance of there being water damage, and even if it isn't causing the problem, HTC won't care.
All in all, I would put money that the swap goes just fine, and hopefull 3rd time is the charm for you. It seems some people, no offense, just have really bad luck with these, while others (not to brag), have bought 5 of them without a single problem.

I'm also angry that this broken one has the best screen I've seen on any nexus, no dust, no pink tint. its perfect! and i have to return it
Oh well. thanks for the advice. I feel a little better about the swap now, I cant really afford to lose another 530$.
One for me, and 4 others for friends that had me help them buy one...
