I use an Exec and log in to my own 'household' wireless network direct to the router...all works well, but the main worry for me is net security...is there any nasties around that affect the Exec? :?:
I haven't found anything on this forum about this topic and it seems pretty important to me!! Thanks!
There is nothing to fear. PIE is far too b0rked to be able to catch infections.

Hiya,
Noob here - please be gentle
Have been borwsing the site for a few days and still haven't found a definitive answer to this:
I have uninstalled the o2 bloat, but still want to be able to access o2's wap stuff (for train times, etc)
When I am at home and connected to wifi I want to use that, but when I'm out on the road I want to use GPRS. I have read somewhere that you can set up wifi to be the first port of call, and if that's not available then use GPRS. Any ideas? C'mon - you're clever!
Thanks
anyone?
this is a question i heared a lot, but never found an answer.

Have you tried the program called NoData? You can toggle it on and off
Is it possible for any of the current 3G phones with WiFi to act as a WiFi Access Point for other devices?
I currently have a Jasjar with Vodafone IE's unlimited data plan for €40 per month and would love to have the Jasjar acting as a WiFi access point at home, in car etc.
Also with HSPDA now available I don't mind changing to another WM5 device that supports the higher speed and could act as an WiFi access point
I'd like to know the answer to this also as when I get my Vario 2 with unlimited data i thought it would be cool to use this to play on the Nintendo DS WiFi service... wishful thinking maybe.
Currently, it's very hard to do what you ask for as the OS doesn't support connection sharing; it must be done with third-party apps like the commercial version of Toonel or my HTTP proxy.
Please read my latest AKU3-related article (posted a few days ago to the General forum here); in there, I've elaborated on this question a lot.
I'm guessing the AKU3 article is the same one as you posted recently on your Smartphone and PocketPCMag blog.
The link to the proxy is prtty cool and may come in handy in the future when I get the Vario 2 (TyTn) and unlimited data. For now I've installed it all on my Wizard to get an idea of how it all works. Unfortunately theres no PAN support on the wizard but there is on my stand alone PDA.
Anyway thanks for your help, I'm still gonna keep a look out for anything that could possibly make the Pocket PC identify itself as a WiFi Access Point (As the Nintendo DS does not support Ad Hoc and only Ap's) and will continue to read your blog.
I just got my 8525 on monday fron cingular, when I first got it I noticed that the internet will work fine on 3G but it wont work on G, for some reason on G it will time out when looking to load a page on IE and it wont receive or send emails either. So I said, what the hell, let me upgrade to WM6 and this should be solved, I was wrong, I have the same exact problem on WM6 and I've spent countless hours going thru all the threads looking for an answer and still nothing. Dont want to call CS since I'm on WM6 and they would start giving me crap about it. Anyone knows whats going on here? I can get internet fine on 3G and I could tether fine to my lappy but if I go out of a 3g and into a plain G network, it wont let me do anything online. Could it be software or hardware? If hardware, how would I go about returning since I upgraded to wm6?
Your help is greatly appreciated.
If you have HTweakC, check the Phone...GPRS/G3 Connection setting and tick Enable GPRS/G3 Auto Attach.
I found that i had the problem you describe when moving from the 3 network in Sydney (Aus) to a regional centre where only GSM/GPRS was available.
I'll try that and see if it works when I move to a none 3g zone. Thanks a lot.
That didn't fix the problem, still no internet when on G network and do have internet while on 3g network. Any other suggestions?
Which WM6 are you on ? I'd think that the Black 2.0 for Cingular might be best and with the 1.40 Radio.
Are you a new Cingular subscriber ? If you are maybe try your SIM in another phone. They might not have provisioned your account properly.
No, I'm not new to cingular and I'm using now the WM6 Black Edition. But dont think that matters tho since it was doing the same thing on wm5. Any suggestions?
Well, have read and gone thru countless threads and still no answer to this problem. Like i said, I went back to WM5 and still have no internet when on E but get lightning fast connection while on 3G. Has anyone experienced this before?
Did you solve the problem?

I use my 8525 in a non 3G network (GPRS/Edge) and I haven´t been able to have a decent connection since day 1 back in December. If you solve your problem please share the solution. Thanks
Maybe this will help
I bought my very own Tytn this week and got a mobile internet subscription with it. I can't seem to connect to any webpage using IE either.
I'm a Firefox fan and always use that wherever I am. So I decided to try the pocket version of that, which is called Minimo. it's on http://www.mozilla.org somewhere.
For some unknown reason, that solved my problem. IE still doesn't work, no matter what I try, but I can surf as much as I want on Minimo, which is fine for me.
Hope this helps.
Hi,
Just picked up a AT&T 8525 on Ebay last week and installed the leaded WM6 AT&T Rom on it. I have a strange issue. I can get all apps except Explorer to use the WiFi connection. When I'm on WiFi, Explorer can't make a connection. Check all of the obvious things that I could find on this site but the fact that Outlook, Opera, SlingPlayer, etc. work lead me to believe that it is something else.
Anyone have any ideas?
thanks,
Bill
before someone comes in and is all "learn how to search" or "GRR RTFW" lol i'll try to help
if you are running any official cingular/att rom they hard code the proxy into IE (or something lol) before you connect to wifi, go into the proxy manager in programs and disable the proxy. when you want to go back on to like medianet or whatnot, and not use the wifi, enable it. if that doesn't work i dunno, maybe someone with more experience can help ya
Thanks,
That was it.
(I did search the forums and wiki, BTW. Some people just don't have infinite amounts of free time.
Thanks
Thanks Cowboy, I searched xda and google for a bit before stumbling on this post. I was having the problem with the AT&T wm6 rom. Solved the issue, again, thanks.
WiFi
Why did I not have to do that for the 4/9/07 WM5 Rom on ATT 8525 but I do for the WM6?
Sorry if this post is a question that has been answered, but I searched the forum and could not find.
I am new to the HTC/Windows Mobile world so I am still getting my sea legs. From this forum I found how to setup my gprs connection and got it to work.
But what I want to do is make my phone use wifi when available and then go to gprs when no wifi is available. Is there a way to prioritize my connections like this.
Thanx for any help u can give.
I'd like to know this as well as I haven't found an answer either.
