the different guides here should be plenty of help
here is something i copy'd from this site at one poit
Ok here you go, its a little outdated but its what I still use:
Qman's how to use XDArit to write nk.nb1 or nk.nbf to your SD card aka the Bootloader Method!
1. Place XDArit and the nk.nb1 or nk.nbf file in the same folder and start XDArit.
2. Select your SD card (disk drive) from the drop down menu.
3. Select Write to SD
Notice that the Windows CE box is already checked so just click the browse button at the end of that window.
4. Select your (nk.nb1 or nk.nbf) image and then Open
Notice by default XDArit will open looking for a *.nb1 file but if you're going to use a .nbf file you'll have to manually change the "Files of Type" to *.nbf
Notice that nk.nbo / nk.nbo was automatically added as your boot-loader and its check box is unchecked so leave it that way and click OK. XDArit should start writing to the card.
When XDArit has finished writing the image put the SD-card into the XDA and hold the power button and soft reset. You'll be taken to the below screen:
SD DOWNLOAD
Card Type:
CE OS & BOOT
Press action to Download
Or
Press REC to Exit
Press action to download and it will start the download/restore from the SD card.
Follow the on screen instructions once its "Completed" which will consist of a "Soft Boot/Reset".
BTW the above is based on using XDArit version 1.0 which can be download from the software section at:
http://www.yorch.net and a PCI USB 3-One Travel Flash reader P/N FPT-D bought at Fry's.

The 4.01.00 ENG version is here ftp://tmobile:[email protected]:21 ..
but be careful as it contains the upgrade for RSU and I 'm not sure
it supports 900/1800 or not since it's TMO upgrade.
If your device has no Radio problems (GSM),
my advice would be to down load the file, use Winzip or WinRAR to
extract the NK.nbf file which the ROM upgrade, put it on SD card and flash your XDA using the bootloader.
PS: if you are sure that your network is 1800 MHz then do NOT use R6.24 for RSU upgrade.
Good luck

anyway i would get a sdcard and a sdcard reader the price is not all that high for any of them
Hi m8,
Thanks alot for all the information you have given me, I have a 256mb sd card and a card reader in my pc, so i should be ok there....
Which rom would you use or have if you were going to put pc2003 on your xda m8???
Thanks alto
zetex
not sure prob the latest 4.01.00 ENG
and be very sure that it were only the rom and not the
radiostack i were upgrading since i seem to recall that 4.01 is US gsm
but i'm not sure i'm upgrading untill i get more tired of messing with 2002 and what applications i like
then i can complain more about the applications which i really really love and need but dont work with 2003
plus people still report issues with 2003 deleting their sdcard for no reason
so if you give it a go be sure to not have infomation on your sdcard which you dont have back'd up so you can get them back if it mess up
Hi m8,

on a later date it will definately be an upgrade as this is still a test version i am using.
not sure about the UK ? as i am new in here myself. look for another thread in this same forum for "looking for testers for a.30.17 att wireless" or something like that read thru and u will see..
as fort me i am using that test versionis much better than the cooked 4.00.5 i was using earlier
alrite mate use vA.30.07 AT&T test rom newest out and its bluddy brill works like a dream cant wait to get the propper update should be cool
its very fast and seems extreamly stable v4.01.00 is stable but is soo slow and seems to make tomtom 2 run slowly as in takes about 3 minutes to start up ect...
get the vA.30.07 rom from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=5492&start=25
worth getting imo

On your xda you have 2 things,
the rom, thats your operation system, now pocketpc 2002, you wanted to update it to windows mobile 2003.
And you have the radio rom, this is the "operation system" for your cell phone part of your xda.
If you update to A.30.07, the windows mobile 2003 beta, you leave your radio rom in tact, so you can continue making calls
Also, watch out for those updates what are programs,
because the also update your radio rom,
better use a .nb1 file with xdatools
Hi,
reading with interest,
Zetec is asking most of my questions for me - but one that I'd like to add:
Does the ppc2003 upgrade allow you to control the phone and the pda volume separately (as per the xda II)?
Thanks

yes, I have one slide bar for the phone and one voor the os (music, alarms, etc)
yup dual volume controls also on v4.01.00 it has a tab called band showing 1900mhz or 900mhz this means you then have to loose 1800mhz (but can be brought back in bootloader) on the vA.30.07 there is no tab like this so in other words no need to go into bootloader so you wont loose your 1800mhz
so vA.30.07 is great for countries using 900/1800
gazzaman2k,
I updated the rom last night everything is working just fine, very nice and it runs very smoothly as well.
I have put Tom Tom 2.24 and that seem to work as well, and the speed is great
Just one question what gps driver is best to use because i'am only getting a couple of bars on the gps status???
Also on the phone side i'am getting on my desktop an AT&T WIRELESS tab??? is that right...
And finally what can i use for closing programs from the desktop, making sure they close by tapping the X in the courner of the screen. Because when i close a program they still remain in the programs running under memory tab...
please let em know
Thanks alot

att wireless in today... u seeing it because this rom is from them and they force it in there, no biggie go to the today - items screen in the settings and uncheck it it will be gone,
as for the programs remaining in the memory that is how the OS has been for a while get aversion of POCKETNAV from Scott seligman woreks well to move around the OS and helps u close unwanted proggies
http://www.scottandmichelle.net/scott/cestuff.html
also the GPS thing isnot a driver issue it is WM2003 feature ( or drawback u may call it) that the signal meter is poor... it is only the display that is poor the signal strength when u see one single dot is about 40% (i tried the trial version of ipdashboard which will tell u in numbers what the strenght is) so just live with it....
hope it answers most of the ?'s
yeah windowsCE have always mixed the alt tab kind og closing with normal closing i asume that it's to make loading faster if you often use the same stuff
it's a good custom to force programs down once in awhile because if you played quake 1 or 2 and then pacman and the deside to listen to mp3 it's going to sound crack smack and pop
Thanks alot for all you help, you have all been very helpful and i now have a xda1 with wm2003 test rom on it....
oh and not forgetting voice comand, very nice app
just one thing i have notice the radio i have installed is 4.20 could i put 4.21 on it and if so how..
Also when i press the volume button on the side and in some apps the box for highlighting a feature or missing but the function works as if its there... is this just because its a test rom???
Thanks once again, i'am now very much enjoying my xda because of people on this board..
Thanks
Zetex
Zetex, glad to hear the upgrade went succesfully!
Did you use the SD card method described earlier in this thread?
Is your UK 02 phone the version with the 32Meg Rom or the 64?
If it is the 64, does anyone know if the beta ROM fits into the 32 Meg version.
Any news as to whether the final version has come out yet?
Thanks

AT& Wireless WM2003 Upgrade

Ok so bear with me here. I am very new to this stuff (1 week). I just bought a used Siemens SX56 for AT&T Wireless from a friend of mine. I inserted my SIM, Syncronized my Outlook and things are GREAT! I love this thing. But...I'm greedy. I want more. I want to upgrade to WM2003. Based on what I have read there are a few features that would make this baby even nicer. The problem is the following:
1) I don't know where to get the upgrade. Siemens no longer posts it on their Website and niether does AT&T. I have read some really advanced stuff on some of the other topic areas regarding loading the Rogers version but I'm not sure how to do this and I don't want to mess this thing up. Does anyone know where I can find the AT&T version of WM2003 for my Siemens?
2) Is it really worth the upgrade? I have seen some complaints from people saying that the wish they hadn't upgraded because it not a stable. Or that the installation went bad and messed up the ROM.
3) Is the Siemens/ATT version of the WM2003 actually the right way to go or is there a better version?
Sorry for the really dumb questions but like I said I'm a newbie.
Thanks,
J
Ok, I found it! this is the original Siemens/AT&T WM2003 upgrade. http://www.wireheadtechnologies.com/sx56/sx56_wm2003_update.exe
I ran this last night and it works like a charm. Be sure to have Activesync 3.7.1 and remove SD card. Took about 10 minutes.
good luck!
does your SD card erase after awhile
 I was looking for this upgrade for two days until I found this site. Thank you for not using the link straight from the Siemens website and thanks for the file.

I've been using WM2003 which I cooked in Lumpstefan's kitchen for about 3 weeks with NO problems. (A.30.09)
I also flashed the RSU with the newest AT&T RSU ROM Ver A.20.10 from
Yorch: www.yorch.net > upgrades.
The only thing I don't like is the RUU from Lumpistefans comes with an add-on program "Pocket NAV". It causes the operating system to freeze, requiring numerous reboots. I shut down Pocket NAV, and no more freezing.
Have fun,
Carey
Light at the end of tunnel?
Hello,
I am really frustrated, I would greatly appreciate any help-
I just finished reading Carey's post about the RSU upgrade to A20.10 from Yorch's website. I have a sx56 (USA-MN) and in areas of low signal, the signal is lost and the phone will not reaquire signal until a soft-reset. The phone has the following config:
Upgraded toWM2003
R33.02
A30.09
l'm not asking for a guarantee, but do you think that Yorch's RSU download (A20.10) might work for this phone. Yorchi's site mentions unzipping the files from A20.10 into the \windows folder then running the RSUpgrade.exe. Does this mean unzip the files to a desktop PC then copying them into the \windows directory on the sx56?
If i've got the method wrong, do you have a link that you can direct me to regarding the method of installation?
Thank you for any help!!
I am wondering about the same thing . MY sx56 drops signal all the time in my apt and I am hoping the new RSU will help the sx56 latch on and hold on to the signal better.. oh well.. if someone has tried it please share your experience...

Hi aiyan11
Welcome to XDA-Dev.
It looks like no-one is speaking to you . I think it's because this problem has come up many many times before. Use the Search XDA-Dev using Google Sticky post near the top of the messages list.
Your problem is a known one. A quick snappy answer would be to hard reset, but certain cards can cause problems and certain devices may have dodgy contacts. - Time for a bit of reading.
Have fun.
Please use one of the existing SD card threads.
Mike
EDIT: Looks like someone has spoken and is not too happy. Oh well lesson learned hopefully. PM me if you need guidance.

Any of you gurus up for a challenge?

I just want to ship my damned phone to someone and have it upgraded to the latest vendor release available for AT&T 8525.
Actually.. I have TWO!
One hangs at bootloader.
I was trying to do that voodoo that you guys do and it went all the way through customizing part deux annnnnnnd... allllmost.... alllllmost.... nope!
BRICK! You can get it into the tricolor screen. But Im on Vista and tired of F'in with it already.
Other loads fine but is old tech WM5.
Anyone wann PM me and tell me how much greater your kungfu is and how you pity me enough to volunteer and how much this is gonna cost?
Thanks!
41 reads and not ONE of you gurus wants to step up?
*sigh*
I can give it a try
Hi,
I am not a guru but love plating with technology and it works (most of the time). Well, I am in Toronto cananda and wodner if you would like to risk your handset(s) in my hands.
Harry
1 question.... Did you install Hard SPL V7 on the Hermes before trying to flash?
If you didn't then unless you have the original shipped stockl rom you can just about right off...
Use the sd card method found on page 116, post 1160 of this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
To do this, you do need a 2Gb or less sd card though and it MUST be formatted FAT32.
Then you can drop the steps usng SSPL.exe (Soft SPL) as you now have Hard SPL V7 and flash any Hermes rom you like, without using the PC for anythng more than copying the rom onto the card and renaming it.
Cheers...

I'm a noob...and I'm crazy enough to flash with my USB rather than my SD card....and have never had a problem (yet....knocks on wood). But I did flash the Hard SPL V7 mentioned by another user...
You might want to explain exactly what you did. You may have indeed bricked your 8525...in that case, it's a...brick. Start over. Buy a new one on ebay? Hope you backed up your important files?
