the wifi connection is realy confuse me, dose any one know how to connect to internet in a cafe or airport??
When you've got wifi enabled make sure that Settings->Connections->Network Cards has My Network Card connects to "The Internet".
Pls help. It drive me nut.
I'm at home connect to (WI-FI) when i connect to internet the GPRS connection was active also. If i disconnect the GPRS the WI-FI still active but when i switch the web site page the GPRS re-connect back again.
How this happen??? only want use connection one of a time. If wifi available then GPRS inactive and otherway around if wifi inactive then GPRS active.
I have no proof of this, so it's just an assumption. I believe that the GPRS connection may be live but not actually in use. Both icons show up when I use WIFI too. I wouldn't pay too much attention to it. If you don't have a data package and want to avoid ever connection to GPRS or even temporarily block it, you can go under connections, connections, advanced, and set both to my work network. If you want to use it again, then set the second one to medianet or whatever your GPRS profile is named.
Hi is there anyway of switching GPRS Off wuithout turning the phone off?
I want to be ablt to use wireless at home however it constantly switches to GPRS - driving me mad. I have a 1gb allowance on my GPRS but i use that for my pushmail for office mails.
I would like to be able to surf at home usig WIFI, when doing this is there a setting (not connection manager) that can turn GPRS off when i am using WIFI?
If you set your WiFi connection as connected to the Internet instead of Work, and in the network adapters setting (settings, connections, network cards, network adapters tab) set that your network card connects to the internet, once you establish an internet connection with WiFi, it should kick your GPRS connection off. On my phone GPRS still tries to connect once in a while for some reason, but never does, since the WiFi internet connection just keeps kicking it off.

Click to collapse
rassah's method is more professional than mine and better perhaps. I'm lazy so I just go to connections button below on/off button and then tap off the GPRS via button that looks like a PDA with two arrows. If GPRS tries to reconnect there should be a popup if you have wifi on that allows you to cancel it's reconnection. This does not disable the phone.

thanks - i will try this - do you know if this will affect the dirct push mail?
Just thought this may help, found it on Modaco.. Works a treat, just toggles gprs data on and off... Very easy and works
Not sure how OK it is to post links to other forums but as it is free software I guess I should be OK...

superb application - especially usefull when roaming
Just what I needed, going overseas next month, I don't want to use any data while there.
Sins i started using GPRS only in steed of UMTS. I can reach 126Kbit/s where I used to have 65Kbit/s. Hoe is these possible?
Second question how can I get Opera mini to connect thru WIFI. it always uses the GPRS connection even when wifi is available like home. Pocket internet don’t have that problem
I had a Dutch T-mobile W&W, MDA VARIO II
Maybe you are now connected to EDGE which can reach speeds up to 384kb/s.
For opera via wifi, go to start-settings-connections-connections-advanced-select networks and select My Work Network and click edit and make sure its either nothing to select under modem or put auto pick.
i installed wm6.1 opper on my t-mobile dash but there is a networking prob with the gprs, it doesnt recieve the gprs /internet data plan that i have for it
tried to put in the settings manualy`?
i got it put in gprs in the gprs setting under connections so i guess it can connect to the gprs in the gprs edge connection but just shows that theres a channel not that its connected
