Messaging and Security Feature Pack for Windows Mobile 5.0 - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Does anyone know if there are any plans for this to be implimented in the next ROM(s) for the Universal?

There is an MS video here, and this features none other than a Universal.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/_assets/video/teched/final-mobilityv7-2mbps.wvx

Looks good - hope it released soon

That video (albeit quite cheesy) played in full screen.
Does anyone know how to make video files play in full screen in WMP10?

T-Mobile news for the XDA owners

This comes from a close friend of mine working for T-Mobile US. It seems that we will have a Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition somwhere in may for the nice old XDA.
There is a floating around new beta ROM with 4.10.01
It will include all this great new features all for our devices (so obviously no bluetooth,VGA or others):
* the biggest change is going to be the ability to easily switch the screen orientation
* The new version of Pocket Internet Explorer will also be able to force web pages into a single column, similar to the way NetFront 3.1 and Opera does. This will make reading web sites not formatted for handhelds easier.
It might not be very much but this is a good news.
So after all seems that T-Mobile will give us some nice summer present.
If anyone has infos from AT&T or O2 shoot !

SkyFire running on X1!

http://get.skyfire.com/
Skyfire, the mobile browser for Nokia S60 and Windows Mobile devices, has broadened its beta testing to include the UK and no longer requires users to register with the service.
Skyfire works by using a proxy server, including a UK-based one, to do all the heavy processing and just renders content on the mobile device. Opera Mini works in much the same way, optimising content through a proxy, but Skyfire takes that further with support for Flash, Java, AJAX and Silverlight, as well as rendering content from YouTube and the BBC's iPlayer.
According to Skyfire this is "the first time you'll be able to view the entire web on your mobile device". You'll have to excuse us if we claim to have heard that before, but at least the company makes no claim to have the whole internet available.
Early betas of Skyfire had problems with stability and clumsy interface components, as well as being limited to US users (at least officially), but these areas have been addressed in the latest version (0.8.5), which apparently offers better zoom control and management of bookmarks.
We say "apparently" as we've not managed to get the beta installed yet - our Windows Mobile device is of the wrong resolution, while the nearest S60 handset won't recognise the Skyfire certificate. But if you have a less esoteric device handy the beta is free to download.
Skyfire would still like you to register with them, offering the opportunity to store your bookmarks and cookies in the cloud and take them between devices - the company is funded with $17.8m of VC capital and is going to want to make money at some point. The use of proxies provides the potential for embedded advertising or a subscription service, though the company will be hoping to charge handset manufacturers to pre-install their browser as the best mobile experience available. ®

Says it wont run on the X1. Just use the wvga fix to get it running
Not in United States, Canada, or United Kingdom, so can't download.
im rather intrested in the Firefox mobile version.
Added it as an attachment if you cant download it
Browser which doesn't use the entire screen isn't very useful IMO.
Currently, we support Windows Mobile and Symbian S60 (3rd edition) platforms, and run on these phones:
Windows Mobile phones: Skyfire runs on Microsoft Windows 5, 6, and 6.1. We support VGA and QVGA screen resolutions. Skyfire runs on many popular Windows Mobile phones including the HTC Tilt, HTC Touch Diamond, HTC Fuze, Motorola Q and Q9, Palm Pro, Palm 800W and Samsung Blackjack II. To check if your phone is compatible with our OS and resolution requirements, please refer to the Microsoft website.
Skyfire will not run on Windows Mobile PDAs. Skyfire runs on phones only.
Skyfire will not run on WVGA Windows Mobile phones (e.g. 800x480 resolution or similar that differs from 640x480 VGA).
ok wtf i'm confused
Yeah, i sooo totally bought this phone to run applications on 2/3 of my screen.
Dont get me wrong, it is nice for some people that it works, but i will not install crap like wvgafix' because some program does not know how to scale on different resolution screens.
If i wanted VGA res, i'd would've bought a Diamond / TP instead.
btw, no offence to the programmer of wvgafix, but IMO it should'nt be necesary in the first place.

Your loss, the reason why SkyFire is VGA is due to the fact that it's not really a browser, but a viewer to their server.
The image displayed is nothing more than an upscalled QVGA.
However you can now listen to Last.fm and watch Hulu/BBC iPlayer (depending on your location).
Also a large number of apps were built before WVGA was even considered. Yes some developers will create new versions, but others will have stop working on the projects years ago.

BOLT the new browser

hie guys did a search and it appeares this new browser http://boltbrowser.com/
hasnt been mentioned yet on our blackstone forum has anyone tried it yet and what are your thoughts to those who have tried it thanks
I really doubt that this browser will be capable of things they advertise. I suspect fake/malware...
EDIT:
I was wrong, its real
anyone tested this?
I dimly remember Skyfire ... it seems to be similar to this one. I think it first appeared spring 2008.
But I never heard about it again and I just don't trust it ^^
http://www.skyfire.com/
I use skyfire. To be able to use it on he beloved HD, you somehow need to decrease resolution. Skyfire is great for flash.
Has anyone tryied "Bolt" ?
Finally, Bolt - the public version of the Thunderhawk browser that is around for a while. Tough sell, a browser that relies on proxy server-side image rendering, similar to Skyfire and Opera Mobile. So how will they make money? Data-mining usage patterns, subscriptions or ads - no one got to work it until now. Good luck, the environment is hostile to your concept...
Guys--Bitstream is a real (and real old) company in Cambrdige, MA. Started out as a typeface company. They are the Thunderhawk people, for whatever that's worth. It looks to me like Bolt is an alpha release masquerading as a beta or version 1 or something, but I'm going to try it because it's from Bitstream.

wapreview.com have got 500 referral codes to get a download link for Bolt.
Just got mine.
Downloaded and tried it. Very similar to Opera Mini. Visited youtube.com and clicking on a video just opened a .3gp stream which opened up in Coreplayer. Not really any use on the Touch HD as there was really no way I could see to navigate around due to the lack of hardware buttons.
I too have the same files on "my documents" folder and cannot open, based on BOLT's install instructions it supposed to download the browser and rights stuff but nothing actually downloads to the folder....I too need help

Save BeyondPod!

The developer of BeyondPod - possibly one of the best podcatcher/RSS readers available - has decided to focus more on the Android platform and less on WinMo. As anyone who has tried to use BeyondPod on any of the 6.5 builds knows, there are a number of issues with the way it renders feeds (missing scroll bars, no text size control, no finger scrolling, etc). Basically the program needs to be updated to support the new version of IE in 6.5.
This would also be an oppurtunity for anyone interested in the future of BeyondPod on WinMo to take over its development. The project is open source, and there are a number of possible improvements that could make this app even better (feed search, apptodate support, homescreen plugin, etc). The dev would be more than happy to have the help.
Couple links here:

Anyone interested in tackling this project? Or is there an even better alternative out there for those of us who want to get our podcast on?
No one cares? Or maybe I'm one of the few that do?
Guess I need to teach myself some programming skills . . .
Im using BeyondPod, great podcast software!

You might be using it now, but won't be for long . . . if you upgrade to WM6.5 or many cooked ROMs of WM6.1. That's the point of this thread.

Can we try to petition or email them?
At least write an app for wm 6.5.
Than that will be ok.

Dude. Read the first post carefully. And follow the links.
I liked beyondpod but switched to speeedreader due to google reader sync. they should actually talk with each other, both have great features, combined it would be a killer app..

Speedreader is no comparison to beyondpod. Beyondpod is the best software i've found by far for managing audio podcasts, multiple auto downloads, intuitive interface and integrated player with great playback and bookmarking features. I'm surprised more people are not aware of this awesome software and if anything out there is close or better I would like to know. I would almost abandon 6.5 just for Beyondpod, but 6.1 scrolling is so terrible that i cant do it. Beyondpod is one piece of software that would actually be worth paying for if it weren't already offered for free.

The name defines, BEYONDPOD.
So yeah, this app is good.
Runs quite well on wm6,5, have to use the Dpad to scroll up and down though.
Able to download, listen and play audio and video and see podcast listing in wm 6.5

Was there an update? I have had at least 15 6.5 roms flashed and the content view in beyondpod was not working therefore rendering it useless for downloading. Sometimes you could see content view the first time you brought it up, but it would not refresh if you scrolled and would be blank the next time.
I would be up to adding to a bounty if necessary

Oh, I dont notice this issue, as what you mentioned work perfectly fine, (Surprisingly) on my device.
I will check out and see how it goes.
Cheers.
Hi All,
jeremy89632 is right, if you just use your Dpad then the error doesn't occur. Another option I have found is that if you use the update and download option then that works as well.
I'm a .NET programmer and I think this is written in .NET. Let me take a peek at the source code for a few days and then I'll let you know if it is something I might want to tackle. I do a TON of development work in .NET but nothing on the mobile platform yet - this might be interesting. Plus, I've been looking for a good RSS/podcast reader myself!
/Chimp (Tom)
Tom, Def check it out it rocks for audio podcasts.
I seem to have found a temp workaround, which tells me a solution cannot be far off. When I go into content view and cannot see the content or it is messed up. I just switch my touch pro to landsacpe and the view is fine abd I can use the dpad to scroll. I will ususally just shift right back to landscape and the view remains perfect but dpad wont scroll until I first touch the screen, then it will dpad scroll with no problem. I can click and download feeds with no problem. I reduced the large text size in beyondpod settings. All the podcasts manage and playback fine but the volume is much lower than normal hard to hear even with mediaplayer and system volume at max. Volume in my other apps and mediaplayer is very loud as normal.
It it more complex than I thought. Also, is this only for a SmartPhone? Or is also for a WM Professional device? When I finally got it loaded into VS2008 it only showed a SmartPhone device.
I'll keep playing with it.
Chimp (Tom)
Definitely PPC touchscreens. On 6.1 it was pretty flawless and fairly finger friendly.
Hmm... It is definately showing up as a Smartphone only when I load it. I'll have to figure out how to switch it over to a PPC device (and also support a SmartPhone).
Well, as this app is for the touchscreen users, it is easier to squash bugs for users rather than to create a smartphone version and cause issues.

I downloaded the code, as well... I got it to successfully compile and run in the WM6.5 Pro emulator (with the stated problems). You need to change the target platform to WM 6 Pro.
Like you said, the code is really complex, but I kind of understand why, it's a great program, and I've missed it since I finally got 6.5 on my i910...
I don't have a lot of spare time, but I'll try to tackle this thing...

3-video player with support for mpeg4 and xvid
4-the fingerfriendly image viewer
5-the task switcher
6-the cube interface, L&W modes and the touchwhiz2
7-other apps like podcast&RSS , OCR for recording contacts information, new music id medomi application, new file explorer and calander

very true matey ... it would be awesome if someone can port the apps to htc touch hd ....
How about the skinned file manager, and midomi?
im having an issue finding the ROM bbut there are people over here who already have the omnia 2 would someone post instructions on how to dump the installed rom so they upload it for us.
there is a lot of thing to like about their customized software
I would love to see some of these application on my Touch Diamond. The skinned file manager, and Touch player especially!
I would probably kill for the task manager...thats what I've been craving for months now. Also the SMS and Email app is a must have. Don't want the phone..just the software
The resolution is different, so it's very hard to port these apps to Omnia I
I've watched PocketNow's Youtube i8000 software tour and it is simply incredible. I've heard quite a bit of negative things about the Omnia II i8000, but the software tour provided by PocketNow really made it shine.
The interface was very fast (in some cases, as fast as the custom ROMs available on XDA) and the available software was simply unreal. The video editor and cube were particularly nice, but I believe Samsung also got the first Windows Mobile version of Midomi ever making it that much better.
I can't wait for the QWERTY Samsung B7610 to finally come out.
i found this thread. the omnia II rom dump is uploaded in mediafire here
hope this is enough for people over here to start
some apps are already extracted here http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=7f364dce2089ae8a4c17ca8801618ef78fe1cb5b49933873b8eada0a1ae8665a

Smartmemo.rar --Didnt Not Load, No errors message, just a [Ping] sound.
TCalendar.rar -- Loads but app is in VGA.
Tclock.rar -- Loads but app is in VGA.
Looks real nice though, if only they worked in wqvga.
i added a picture of my xperia in the first post
also a cool guy posted a nice story about all this in pocketnow. i hope now we get enough attention from the devs here to port the rest

There should be more developments once they dump the ROM and more people get involved, which is the main focus of the thread. Visit the MoDaCo thread and keep an eye on the dedicated Omnia II extraction thread at XDA for any progress and to test the apps.
How many of you are waiting for a functioning Midomi app to be ported? I know I am. Hopefully patience pays off.

Has anyone tried these on the Diamond?
Update: Tried TCalendar and Phonebook. TCalendar seems to work at first glance looks really nice, however, I cannot add any appointments or anything and the menu softkey makes the screen go crazy. Phonebook just gives me a a black screen with only the keyboard button in the down right corner.
Need Midomi..
Downloaded and tried Tcalender. ..
It worked as u can see in the pic, but it fails to creat new appointment or to access the menu soft key ??? apart from the first home screen nothing else is working.
Edit: I have Xperia X1i, Official R3AA UK ROM
Tested the TCalendar on the HTC Touch Diamond 2 (Topaz) with the Custom ROM Topaz Essentials
Viewing of the Calendar works fine (although quite slow) - but opening the menu or adding a new entry does not work
Oh.Can't dl from mediafire
who can upload to rapidshare for a mirror?
Only need the Part02 Disk1 dump files(part1.rar part2.rar part3.rar)
thanks very much!!!
I just want to search into the dump folder for any other files needed to load the apps!
Just a quick update from a Touch HD running pkoper's EPS HDX WM6.1 ROM:
- TCalendar: starts, shows appointments (in all views), looking good. Navigating to dates works. Menus, however, don't work properly. And it's all in Hungarian.
- TClock: doesn't start ("components not found").
N.
i think these compressed executables are missing other supporting files thats why they are refusing to run. a proper cab of each of the omnia application need to be created. lets keep an eye on the modaco thread for now
