well usually feature is a good thing
but un this case not able to zoom at 2.0 mp resolution
is not a good thin
The only reason you can not zoom is that the lower res photos are a 'fake zoom' (digital zoom)
not really a zoom

thats true, when You use zoom what really happens is that the software is simulating zoom by showing a smaller part of the 2MP picture. I recomend to take photos at VGA resolution if You would like to experiment with ¨zoom¨
Hi everyone, do you have a cab with the latest and greatest camera sw with autofocus which works with Jade? My wife complains about poor quality of the pictures and I was appointed to search for a solution.Thx in advance.

yes, of course.
the ideea is first to have the autofocus implemented, since the current camera sw which is coming with the phone seems not to have this feature. Thx for help.
a. am inteles. incerc sa fac un rom si eu momentan, si caut idei, sugestii, etc .
AFAIK, autofocus is a mechanical feature of cameras...
So I don't think any software will be able to provide autofocus, unless Jade has it but HTC did not implement it, which I doubt...

Buy a phone that does what you want it to do, don't imagine you can magically make one you buy do everything you want it to.

Yes, focusing is about the movement of the lens, so it is merely mechanical.
Anyway, the Jade camera can still take pic in acceptable quality if:
1) there is sufficient light source (eg outdoor under briight sun-shine)
2) keep sufficient distant from the objects (eg 1 meter or above)
3) keep your hand still as you can when taking photos
when people speak they should know about what they are speaking or stay quiet!!!
unlike what everyone said here it´s not just a mechanical question it´s also a software issue because i inserted a htc touch diamond camera on the htc jade and no autofocus function was available with the camera but diamond has autofocus and you know what pictures with jade lens here actually better.. so instead of speaking without knowing you should be quiet!!!

It's very difficult to take any good pictures without them being blurry either. Clearly Sprint didn't see this or brushed it under the rug?
Try putting some tape over the lens and see if that helps.

It's noisy because like all lower end digital camera's it automatically adjusts the ISO rating depending on how much light is involved. The less light the more noise.
Have u tried focusing b4 taking th picture?

Isn't the manufacturer HTC and not Sprint? Anywho, with a low end sensor, it's expected to be noisy. And by low end I'm just comparing to Canon's, Nikon's and Sony's sensors. I think we're just a little spoiled by those ultra compact cameras and forget what the phones are really for. But in low-light, you're always going to have a lot of noise (i'm assuming they're low-light shots). All day-time, well-lit shots of mine are actually really nice.

BTW the Evo is using the same backlit sensor technology as the new iPhone. I think everyone is giving good advice in setting the ISO manually. Even my old 5mp dsl type camera performed poorly at higher ISO.

Hey Vandam500! Good to see another former iPhone (well, soon to be. Ordered an EVO last night) user from MR.
As for the EVO camera. I've seen some good pictures with it and some noisy ones. I think it's going to all depend on the light you take it in. It's a high megapixel camera with a small sensor.
It's not going to replace my DSLR or even my old PowerShot. It's a camera on a phone and I'm excited to use it.
Thats actually a produced sound comming from the speaker, you can turn it off in settings.

I reread the original post again since I forgot the exact wording. Nope we were right the first time.
Btw going to the link you posted about the sensor showed me the specs I was looking for.
Apple was touting their 5mp being better cuz of pixel size.
Well each pixel in the iphone is 1.75 microns while the ones in the EVO are 1.4 microns. A typical point and shoot is around 2 microns. So cell phone cameras aren't that far off from compacts. Of course a Nikkon D3 for example is 8.3 microns per pixel.
So I was just wondering if there are any fixes to the camera on Android to make then 5MP. I know that the XTarantulla build has a 5MP Camera but I can't say the same for darkstones or dan's. Or at least I didn't get it. Also, I was wondering if there was a fix to make it 8MP like how we could go into the registry and edit it so that it was superfine and stuff. Just wondering. Didn't see anything about it here on the forums so I thought i'd bring it up.

First off, they are working on it.
if you can successfully find and pull the camera drivers from the XT build and put it in another congrats.
as for the 8MP, that's just silly. the camera only is a 5MP, it can't be set to take pictures better than the hardware is capable of
cyanogen rom by shubi has 5mp camera. it has proper flash exposure (no full white pictures) and camcorder with flashlight.

Maybe not up to true 8MP, but improvements can be done in software.
My old HTC Wizard's camera sensor is 1.3MP, with a scaled res. option for a pseudo 2MP mode.
Yes, it is not true 2MP, but an extra option over the standard 1.3MP.
This was done 4 years ago, why not now with our HD2?

Is there any hope that we might ever get 720p video capture?
Theoretically both the 5MP sensor and Snapdragon chipset are adequate, so is there any hope for HD capture?

This is nonsense ...you can make it 20mp if you want in photoshop but you will lose quality. Ex there are 5mp cameras that are taking better pictures than a 8mpx cameras, the result is important!

The 8mp superfine hack in wm rom development has already improved picture quality, as side by side comparisons have shown, it's not true 8mp but the difference was noticable. The camera is capable of slightly more than its spec.

As I said, not true resolution, but an option available on a device 4 years old.
Something like that can be done for the HD2 also as an option, being aware
of some quality loss.

I thought all that did was reduce the compression, and the HD2 had huge issues with the camera in WinMo underperforming to start with, any of the improvements used in WinMo brought it to a standard your getting in Android already.

From looking at photo's I've taken previously in WinMo (With those teaks) and Android, Android comes out the overall winner, those tweaks for WinMo simply give you what HTC should have given us out of the box in the first place.
Android does not seem to suffer at all in the camera department, at least not for me anyway.

He is wrong.108mp camera is just for up to x4 zoom. All above that is telephoto.Don't spread wrong informations.Yea sure sansung will put PERISCOPE camera of 48mp and than use main camera for over x10 focus what a genius ? The deal is that up to(from x1 to x5 is pure otpical zoom)10x is hybrid zoom it uses both periscope and main camera for above x10 times its only periscope without main camera.Al above 10 zoom is only periscope camera and its just croping not zoom. But keep in mind if you zoom x3 it will be only main camera croping you cant zoom less than 5x times wtih periscope.
Seems OK here on unlocked USA version.
Will be testing some more to see.
I didn't even reset settings/clear cache.
I'm glad I didn't get Exynos. Usually do for unlockable BL and custom roms but I'm over that now.
I still have older Exynos phones I can do that with.
And my personal numbers are on Verizon so there's that.
The new update made this camera worse! If they don't have this camera figured out soon, I'm getting rid of my Ultra.
For 4x - 9.9x, if you're focusing a relatively close object, it will use the main camera, but if you focus something far away, it will use the telephoto camera. At least, that's the behaviour I'm having (ATCT firmware / camera version 10.0.03.2).

Return it. Or import the snapdragon model. I haven't had those issues. Camera is almost perfect apart from some poor HDR processing at times.
Text has always been an issue with this phone.
It has a very narrow range of focus.
