This comes from a close friend of mine working for T-Mobile US. It seems that we will have a Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition somwhere in may for the nice old XDA.
There is a floating around new beta ROM with 4.10.01
It will include all this great new features all for our devices (so obviously no bluetooth,VGA or others):
* the biggest change is going to be the ability to easily switch the screen orientation
* The new version of Pocket Internet Explorer will also be able to force web pages into a single column, similar to the way NetFront 3.1 and Opera does. This will make reading web sites not formatted for handhelds easier.
It might not be very much but this is a good news.
So after all seems that T-Mobile will give us some nice summer present.
If anyone has infos from AT&T or O2 shoot !
Go fetch tigers

Yeah I agree... and the Java version of Opera, Opera Mini.
Looks good, only it seems totally incompatible with the magician as it comes to the on-screen keyboard.
Regards, M
Opera is not yet available for WM2005 though (only smartphone 2003) - I was on their site yesterday, still no download links. You know better, please tell!
Also minimo will be free (will prob be 2 years before we see a decent version though!)

Follow the link and visit xda-developers more often
I have Opera for 2005 for a couple of weeks or so... and it looks great.
Opera is fantastic. Stomps on PIE's head.
I'm also in love with Opera. beside some small bugs (like double space) it's the most reliable and compatible browser for mobile devices (from full AJAX support ans so on)
unless im mistaken, the link to minimo at the TOP of this page is a very old version (11 months old ver 0.02 feb 05 edition ) there is a much newer (1 month old ver 0.12 dec 05 edition)
aven't tested it yet, but 0.12 version (& older versions too) can be found here http://www.meer.net/~dougt/minimo_ce/
It's big & fat (almost full screen & > 10MB), looks good though. Crashed just before finishing my post. Supports on screen keyboard, very important on a magician & compatibility ??
Going to test it for a week or so.
Cheers, M
I liked minimo, but I found .12 simply too slow to really use
Opera is quite a bit faster than minimo, but still slower than PIE on WM5 and tends to do some strange things with frames (hopefully they'll get that ironed out for the real release)
I'm really looking forward to these programs maturing, as PIE could use some real help
Dang . . and there i was thinking i was adding to the community .
Sigh.
I was looking forward to getting rid of my n00b stabilisers

Is there any solution for the double space problem?
Cheers,
Steve.
A month ago, i tried to install Minimo on MDA Pro, but encountered insufficient memory problem.
Has it been solved? (I saw the flickr images and it seems that it's running on Jam not Universal..).
Seems like someone has finally made a start on developing a PPC version to the CellTrack which was only available for smartphones running Windows Mobile from http://celltrack.spv-developers.com.
I found this while googling CellTrack for a PPC version. It seems there is a beta version out for the I-Mate Jam which will work with other PPCs running WM 2003. The app ran on my MDA II but would only show the LAC and the CellID since it is a testing version while the bugs for transitioning the program from Windows Mobile for Smartphones to the PPC Editions.
Check the bottom of the page:
http://www.thelogster.34sp.com/celltracker/
I haven't found anything close to this yet so for the moment, it looks like this is the best we'll get.
sorry digging up old thread, but unfortunately even the site is down. did you managed to keep track of the file 20051209_NiceRIL.zip ?
Someone else found
NiceTrack v2 (Q)VGA
Tack a look here :

This is not the Sharp version that has to be patched with a modified .dll to work, this is the real thing. Unfortunately, only a beta so far, and only a 45 Day Testversion at that, but very nice to look at nontheless, and it natively starts in VGA Mode.
http://www.opera.com/download/mobil... Pocket PC phones running Windows Mobile 5.0.
Thanks Rapax,
Just downloaded it and will soon install.
Thanks once again for sharing this vital information
Kind Regards
After a brief trial:
Page rendering is probably the best (better than PIE and Netfront 3.3)
Does not handle mail attachments in web based e-mail accounts such as Gmail. Both PIE and Netfront 3.3 do support file attachments.
Does not support flash sites though I have Macromedia flash player 6.0 on my Jasjar and PIE uses it. Netfront will take advantage of flash sites once the commercial version is available.
In terms of speed Opera appears to be the fastest compared to PIE and Netfront 3.3
Don't know if there is a way to define a user-agent because in its current form it forces us to mobile versions of web sites. I could not visit my hotmail site and it forces me to the mobile msn site. Likewise for www.handango.com
So all in all I have mixed feelings regarding this browser. Good in some areas but not the best. For my needs Netfront is still the overall winner. (However these are just my views)
Again may be it is only me but after I have used and closed opera (really closed) it prevents Planmaker to start up. I have to reset the Jasjar to be able to use planmaker again.
Regards
Sweet Lord, it's gorgeous. Simply gorgeous.
THIS is the browser that should be included with WM5.0.
EDIT: TAB doesn't work to move between fields...minor point.
Sharp version - new version
What's the difference compared to the Sharp-hacked one?
Do you see any improvement?
I have that, and it's working well.
The major problem I have is in using java applets. Unfortunately it seems a problem only Nefront 3.3 will be able to solve.
Opera looks good on initial usage.
Seems very kind to the RAM, did not see any leakage unlike with PIE
I ve tried it but it doesnt start. I ve installed in sd and ram but doesnt start. Any idea?
No errors. the clock spin 4 times and nothing hapens.....
Is there a way to import my PIE bookmarks?
Has this version fixed the double-space bug when entering stuff into text fields?
I am using it too. I think this browser looks especially nice on these model of phones because of the landscape screen orientation, and VGA.
it seems to work very quickly, as well and I did not have a problem with java applets. in fact I went to my bank site and alot of other sites that used java with no problem. Not sure how they manage to fit everything and resize everything to that small screen but for right now it will be my browser of choice.
It handles new windows very well and like other said doesn't take alot of ram. i do find it runs better when installed on storage memory as oppose to memory card storage.
i am going to continue to test it though. I have not played with netfront 3.3 as much.. but i like opera alot better.so far.
those that have not tried it I highly recommend it.
I didn't like Opera 8.5. Personally, I prefer PIE with Multi IE... can't find any better!

THX again for the Info mugglesquop, I was asking about Opera, because the anounncing from Opera Turbo is everywhere around, i supose maybe some insider around xda-dev dispose of that files. Did you saw the new feature of Diamond 2 faster internet surfing? well, here is the answer.
Opera unveils turbo-charged browsing at Mobile World Congress 2009
Oslo, Norway and Barcelona, Spain – February 12, 2009
Just when you thought browsing couldn't get any faster, Opera unveils its latest innovation for better browsing, Opera Turbo. This all-new, turbo-charged way to surf will make its exclusive appearance at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona from February 16-19, 2009.
To be available for business customers on Opera Desktop, Opera Mobile and Opera Devices SDK, Opera Turbo compresses bandwidth consumption. By processing data being sent to a mobile phone or a PC by up to 80 percent, operators will be able to reduce network traffic and save on data transmissions. This helps to extend the longevity of their mobile network investments. For device manufacturers, Opera Turbo provides a faster browsing application that can leverage device capabilities and utilize hardware resources more effectively. By leveraging Opera Turbo, operators and OEMs can provide a faster browsing experience to their end-users, independent of network constraints or hardware limitations.
Due to Opera Turbo's advanced compression technology, even devices with limited hardware capabilities show improved page download rates and better overall performance. By leveraging its experience with server-side optimization solutions such as Opera Mini, Opera Software is extending optimization to encompass other Opera browser products. Opera Turbo is able to reduce the size of the transferred page without transcoding the page. Opera Turbo offers full support for dynamic Web technologies such as Ajax and Flash - these are not compressed by Opera Turbo.
Opera Turbo supports Opera's belief in "One Web", providing equal access to the Internet regardless of the device or network quality. Opera has focused on a way to improve performance and the overall speed of its browser under any condition, whether surfing from a limited mobile phone in a remote location or with an early model desktop computer on a dial-up modem. To Opera, One Web means being able to take the one true Web and make it available to people on their own terms. Opera believes that circumstances should not dictate how its browser performs, and Opera Turbo is a way to ensure the best browsing possible anytime, anywhere.
"We are living in a time and place where access to the Web should be a universal right to all. Technology has advanced us to the point that we can very nearly access the Internet anytime and anywhere from a growing number of devices," said Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software. "As part of Opera's commitment to provide the best experience on any device, Opera has developed the Opera Turbo solution. The Mobile World Congress serves as a forum for us to educate others on the wonders of Web technology."
See it to believe it at Opera's Mobile World Congress exhibit (Hall 2, Stand 2B77). Mobile World Congress participants will also have the ability to experience Opera on a variety of devices: Opera Mobile on smartphones such as HTC HD, Samsung Omnia and Sony Ericsson Xperia, free downloads of Opera Mini, improved Web browsing on gaming consoles and the ARCHOS Generation 5 Media players will be just a few of the exciting features of Opera's 2009 exhibit.
Mobile World Congress will be held from 16th to 19th February in 2009 in Barcelona, Spain. Visit the Opera Booth in Hall 2, 2B77. For media inquiries, please contact [email protected]
